    • Comfort wise, the M50X is not a big improvement over the M40X. The Sony WH1000XM3 is a lot better

  • This is very good price. I would get one too if i haven't got one already

  • I much prefer open back headphone nowadays for desktop use. Soundstage is better compared to closed back ones like this model

    • open back is unusable for using in an open office though.

  • Has anyone found a shorter cable for the M40x's as ths is the only thing I don't like about them

  • Thanks a lot for the recommendation. I have had my M50x for 4 years and they still sound great though ear pads and head pad have flaked through use and sweating (gross).

Now "downgrading" to the M40X as I am hearing very good things about them, here's to another four years!

  • Darn, looks like they are OOS for now…

  • Thank you OP! I just bought 2: some for work (when I return) and also daughter's Christmas present. Earliest start for Christmas shopping for me!

    • Which model did you buy?

      • Wired. Strangely, I chose wired for convenience - personal choice where the convenience reside :-) .

      • And my apologies for my late reply. I didn't see this until today! I hope you were able to purchase some.

  • Bought the BT version in similar deal last year from JB Hifi, for me it is the best sounding headphone for this price. The only draw back for me to use this headphone is the mic.. Almost unusable.

  • Getting these for everyday use, but do they also work if i connected them to my xbox?
    thanks :)

Okay, so of course im going to ask the question AFTER i decided to impulsively buy… But there was lots of discussion here about the M40x. I chose to buy those but am wondering 2 things:

-> Some people said it lacks bass (or is tuned on a tad) I listen to things like ASAP with a bit of bass, will this make a big diffy?

-> Best inline microphone for the headset?

    THanks!

  • Good drivers, but be prepared to replace the headband and ear cups in 6 months- a year because the build quality is really quite abysmal.

Good Unit, I prefer the Beyer Dynamics DT 770 pro at a similar price point

    • Yep, so comfortable. The only gripe I have is the long, non-removable cable

I woke up and brainlessly ordered the ATH-M50x from the main OP url thinking they were the wireless ones.
Going through the refund process now… Would cop the M40x's, hope they refund me quickly…

  • Does anyone have a good suggestion for replacement pads of the M50x? Been looking into brands like Brainwavz or Dekoni.

Just tried the M50BT in store, great sound for my taste, tight accentuated bass but the clamp is just too strong compared to other options.
For me I preferred the AT sound over the Sony XMB.
Will probably have to refund the AT due to inability to cope with the clamp.
Switching out and using head-fi method might help reduce discomfort, but may as well save the $$ for another pair.
The AT 700 BT are not on special which sucks but were heaps more comfortable.

  • Went to purchase today after waiting till payday and missed out. Beyond sad :(

  • Received my order today! Pretty happy with how they sound.

Just cant get this thing to firmware upgrade, its failed twice now. Grr. Anyone else have the same issue?

    • Succeed at last. Tried again and did the weird hand position thing, then connected to the laptop for it to update successfully. Didn’t expect to have to perform a ritual to get it working lol.

The headphone is body brilliant though. I’m hearing new beats and artefacts in the music I’ve always heard.
