OzBargain EoFY 2020 Treasure Hunt - $7,000 of Prizes to be Won! Starting 22 June at 12PM

Our annual Easter Treasure Hunt took a break this year, but we are now back with one that has bigger and fancier prizes for the End of Financial Year this year! Similar to previous years' format (2019, 2018, 2017, etc) so those who have participated in past hunts would need no instruction.

Instructions

However if you are new to the OzBargain Treasure Hunt, here are some instructions. Basically various prizes will pop up on the site throughout the day during the hunt. They might appear on the (1) OzBargain Home Page, (2) New Deals Page and (3) any deals / forums page with 10 or more comments. Often you'll need to do a bit of scrolling as they usually pop up in the middle of deal listing or between comments. Here's an example:

Click to Reveal the Prize

There are quite a few factors that determine whether a prize pops up on the current page or not.

  • Each prize has a probability (i.e. 1% of chance that a gift card will drop)
  • Each prize also has a starting time (i.e. only live from 4PM on Monday)
  • Some prizes only appear on certain pages — more on that later.

Also note that if a prize pops up on a page, it won't stay there forever! It would disappear after 15 seconds without interaction. However after you click on the prize, it would reveal what the prize is and allow you to claim it.

Click to Claim the Prize

After you have claimed the prize, it would be added to your inventory, which is available on the Marketplace page. Marketplace would be very important in the later part of the game. You can add up to 4 items to your inventory — prizes basically would stop popping up on OzBargain once your inventory is full.

Marketplace

On the Marketplace page, you can

  • See what prizes you have in your inventory.
  • Drop prizes to vacate your inventory. Dropped prize will be back to the wild, ready to be picked up by other OzBargainers.
  • Put your prizes on the marketplace for trading.
  • See what prizes other users have put on the marketplace.
  • Request / Accept / Reject trades.

Trading is important because many prizes come in multiple parts — and you can only claim the final prize when you have collected all the parts!

Multipart Prize

Feel free to use private messages or this forum to organise trades, and claim as many prizes from me as you can :)

Prizes

Here is a list of prizes for EoFY Treasure Hunt 2020. Half of them are in the form of Prezzee Gift Cards where you can exchange it with merchants' gift cards to be spent online or instore. The higher valued prizes are the kind of splurge at the end of financial years — popular headphones/earbuds on OzBargain, and desktop computer from a popular store and a laptop from a popular brand.

  • 50x Prezzee eGift Card $25
  • 20x Prezzee eGift Card $50
  • 10x Prezzee eGift Card $100 (2 parts)
  • Apple AirPods 2 (2 parts)
  • Apple AirPods Pro (2 parts)
  • Bose QuietComfort 35 Mk II (2 parts)
  • Bose NCH-700 (3 parts)
  • Sony WF-1000XM3 (2 parts)
  • Sony WH-1000XM3 (2 parts)
  • Gaming PC at ~$1,000, likely from TechFast (3 parts)
  • Lenovo ThinkPad E-series at ~$1,000 (3 parts)

For those looking at collecting multipart prizes, here are some tips:

  • It's always the part 2 that's the rare one. There will actually be more part 1 / part 3 than part 2 that will pop up on the site.
  • 5 of the Prezzee eGift Card $100 part 2 will be released in random locations. However all the other part 2 will only appear on specific pages, and the hints will be released here during the hunt.

For example, I might be posting a comment in this post:

Prezzee eGift Card $100 (2/2) — what was the most voted deal in this financial year?

Answer would be Free GTA V from Epic Games, where there's a high probability that specific prize will appear.

Comments

        • golly gosh, how did you find that?

          • @beefcocacola: Go to the end of the page mate. You will see it alongside statistics.

            • +1

@GJT: gotcha cheers for that. So the users are the members and guests are non-members?

              • @beefcocacola: I think so too. Guests numbers are terrifying haha

                • +1

@GJT: indeed, i wonder what percentage are in it for the hunt. You'd think that most regular users would be members by now as well so the guest count is staggeringly high

                  • @beefcocacola: Well I've been intrigued by that statistics tab for awhile now. So the proportion of users and guests seems to be same as always to me :)

                    • @GJT: i see, you'd also have to assume that a small portion would be idle in the background on their PC but the that number probably wont be substantial

                      • +1

@beefcocacola: True. But just like you said the high number of guests are really… ummm sus I guess. It would seem more plausable if it was the other way around. Then again I'm no expert in consumer behavior. Gotta catch them deals whilst in incognito I guess 😅

I feel sorry that they can't set up email alerts for good deals like me ;)

  • +7

I’ve been visiting this site for years now, and every time the treasure hunt comes up a part of me wonders if it’s an April Fools joke. Have never seen one of the pop ups!

  • +5
    • +1

I'd like to see how this play out hahahha

      • +1

        Grabs popcorn

  • Saw this at 10:00pm:

    Treasures: Found 84, Active 4, Inactive 75, Total 163
New items in the system: 30 min to go
    Winners: 52
    Last claimed: 3 min ago

Does this mean someone claimed a treasure at 9:57pm?
(Wasn't there 0 active treasures soon after 9:30pm?)

    • +3

if you drop prizes, they go back in the wild i think

      • That makes sense. Thanks!

        • Treasures: Found 89, Active 0, Inactive 74, Total 163
New items in the system: 8 hours 18 min to go

          Drops again at 7?

  • Good Night Everyone!

  • +5

everyone wanting to get laptop and pc, meanwhile im here like..
all i want is my $25 prezzee voucher 🥺

  • Hey if anybody has the blue Laptop piece (2/3) please let me know! :)

    • +5

I noticed you have found heaps, are you just in the comments of a random deal and refreshing and looking between the comments?

I thought it was all chance, but you have so many there has to be some sort of logic!

  • Good way to generate advertising adds. Sadly the participation rate would be high. Shrugs…

  • +6

I need a PHD degree just to understand the rules…….

    • Yeah I preferred the old treasure hunts haha

    • +1

I have a PhD degree and still don't understand the rules. :D

  • +1

….a lot of unhappy overused left mouse keys and F5 buttons this morning

  • I saw this yesterday and thought it was a fake ad!

    • +1

      April Fools!

  • +2

Still don't know how some people are winning so many. I just tried refreshing like crazy (no intention to click it just wanted to see if one would appear) and nothing appeared for me for the whole 7 mins haha.

    • I have claimed 3 so far… I can't seem to figure out logic. Keep trying is the only advice I can offer

      • Yeah I have claimed 2 so far. I think 2-3 is reasonable (given it seems luck based). Someone below has claimed over 8 prizes.

    • My guess is multiple tabs, portrait mode monitor zoomed out, refresh monkey (or similar) extension and lots of luck.

But perhaps if it's the same people, something more to it.

      • +1

refresh monkey (or similar) extension and lots of luck

I have my finger tyvm !

    • I got 2x $25 :) and one unsuccessful finding as well :)

  • Good morning OzBargain, welcome to the second day of the hunt. Some fun stats (as of this morning):

    • 95 prizes have been found by 56 users. 4 users are holding onto 4 prizes, and 8 users are holding onto 3 prizes.
    • 13 items have been dropped from inventory, and 1 very enthusiastic user has dropped 8 items — someone who is really trying to get that one piece.
    • On the other hand 3 items have been dropped twice — a $25 gift card, $100 gift card part 1 & Bose NCH-700 part 1.
    • Trade has been requested 47 items, but none actually succeed.

I'll be back at 10AM for the hints of next set of prizes.

    • Wow, someone has won more than 8 items?

      • What do they know that we don't!?

        • Perseverance or an auto-refresh with a script enabled maybe?

      • They've dropped 8 items. You can only have 4 at a time.

        • +2

Yeah but the fact they have claimed more than 8 prizes (as of this morning) means they have been able to claim probably 12 total from yesterday. That is what I am wow'ing at haha.

          • @exc3113nce: Where does it say that one same user has claimed 8 prizes?

13 items have been dropped from inventory, and 1 very enthusiastic user has dropped 8 items — someone who is really trying to get that one piece.

            • @John Kimble: You can only drop what you have claimed. Some users are so good at it they filled up their inventory in no time, so have to drop what they have in order to hopefully pick up something that's good.

              • @scotty: Oh duh 🤦‍♂️, for some reason I thought "claimed" was "redeemed" as in they have the prizes already.

                My bad.

                • +1

@John Kimble: Not sure why someone negged you but I just made it positive.

                  • @exc3113nce: Aw, friend. I think it is because technically it doesn't make a difference, because the point you were making was that the same people are finding multiple items, when most can't find one.

But yeah, I was not thinking clearly/properly at all when I wrote those comments haha

    • I got 2x $25 :)
I need to apologize for yesterday :), Someone explains the whole story to me and I had a bit of research and find out what happened!

    • um scotty, i think my trade succeeded ?

      • Yes indeed — I think there are some issues with logging on my end. Congratulations on the trade!

        • hehe thanks :D

        • Correct. There have not been any Trade Accepted notifications when successful.

          • @capslock janitor: Yes there's a database issue with logging the success trade. Error caused the subsequent notification getting ignored as well. It has now been fixed.

    • +3

I've opened hundreds of pages (while they're active) and haven't seen one prize.

    • +1

1 very enthusiastic user has dropped 8 items

Give me dual ultrawide monitor and I might have a chance

      • so you're the very enthusiastic user? How do you do it, are you using a script?

  • The next hint for those with good memory (or good at searching).

2x Prezzee $100 (2/2) — What was OzBargain’s very first birthday competition? (Hint: all the way back in Nov 2008!)

    • Competition pages? I thought only deal/forum pages?

      • For this item only.

        • OK, thanks. refresh refresh refresh

    • +6

      There's nothing on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7657
Have been there straightaway. Gift for efforts? Haha

      • I also didn't see anything there! Maybe the wrong page?

      • Two years ago, on Monday 27 November 2006,

      • Yeah that is the one I was at, but I don't think it's a "you find it if you get there" scenario? I think you still have to get lucky. I was refreshing that page to try and get it.

But maybe I am not doing it right…

      • Not sure how many people were hitting that page, but the 2 prizes were claimed within seconds of each other.

        • How did the bandwidth hold up with everyone hitting those images? ;) It felt like it struggled to me!

        • Ah okay, so the Hint prizes are on the page until someone finds it? You don't have to keep refreshing it?

Whereas the random ones are just that, random popping up in any deal page?

          • @JoKing: There's still a bit of probability there but the chance is much much higher. So yes usually you'll find one with one or two refreshes, assuming no one else is trying to look for it.

            • @scotty: I must have bad luck then.. Tried dozens of times and was clicking it before I asked if the comp was the right place! :)

Or does it not show up if you've already got one?

            • @scotty: I was looking at the counter at marketplace. It didn't start to tick down until 10:06 or something. I am presuming this is when all the items got dropped (including hint items)

      • Yup. I got one from this page.
It seems it is not always there and it's random.
When I get there first time, it wasn't there.
I went to the other pages and came back, it was there.
We might need to refresh the page or just luck.

    • Ahh, no luck on the Comp page! Any of those Prezzee 2/2 random drops still up for grabs? :)

      • There are still 2x Prezzee $100 (2/2) to be dropped at random location later today (at 12PM & 4PM).

    • im assuming if there are no active treasures then this one is gone ?

  • +3

    This is impossible!

    • +1

Not if you're unemployed but still connected

      • lol

  • +2

Just wondering, do people normally found them on the Deals Page or Main Homepage or comment/individual deals page?

Found one yesterday accidentally on Deals page when I was not trying to find it, but when I started looking, have only been seeing nothing..

  • +2

    this is nuts.
id love to be able to know how many ive missed - just do know im doing it right.
how can some people get so many and others not even see one

  • I have set timer for every 30 mins for the hunt yesterday, spend about 5 mins of refreshing every time, and not a single prize found.
Then I gave up and just browse deals normally, then suddenly it appeared out of nowhere.
Clicked it and I got one.
Now, I am back to 30 mins timer again since this morning, and 0 found again…

  • +5

So I finally found one.. already claimed ffs.

Anyway for people like me who had no idea if they were "hunting" right:

I was in Forums, on the Gaming category and just opening topics 3 tabs at a time and scrolling through each till the bottom. only 3 tabs because the prizes disappear 15 seconds after page load. TIP: To avoid clogging up my browser with tabs I used "close all tabs to the right" by right clicking my gaming forum tab.

I was on page 2 of the gaming category and in a topic: "Nintendo Switch Online Details - Family Membership (8 Users) $54.95/Year, Classic Game Selection, Cloud Saves, Sept 2018" and there it was, $25 prezee gift card. Clicked on it and it was claimed.

Oh well at least I finally "found" one.

    • what made you go to the gaming category in forums?

      • +2

just that its popular and there'd be lots of posts with 10+ comments

apparently you can just camp on one page anyway and keep hitting refresh.. I'm trying this technique now

Edit: yes this works.. however when my prize flashed up I bloody pressed F5 too quickly and refreshed passed it lol

    • I just check randomly, on Deal Page I normally go the page 15-20 and open random page. So far got 2x $25.

  • +3

I think I am not doing this right… nothing shows up on deals/new deals for me…. this is harder than ebayplus…

    • agreed, although it is more a game of chance it seems providing you are logged in and searching when items are active. The grind continues!

  • -6

Can I just have a prize? Sounds kinda stressful always looking for something that might never appear.

  • what happens when you have collected all the components of one prize? do you just wait till the competition is over to collect the prize?
    Thanks

    • +1

      Subtle flex…

    • Yes. As per the original post:

After the hunt finishes, those with prizes will be presented with a form on the Marketplace page for filling out the delivery details.

You'll have to fill in the delivery form so I can order & post the prize to you.
