OzBargain EoFY 2020 Treasure Hunt - $7,000 of Prizes to be Won! Starting 22 June at 12PM

Our annual Easter Treasure Hunt took a break this year, but we are now back with one that has bigger and fancier prizes for the End of Financial Year this year! Similar to previous years' format (2019, 2018, 2017, etc) so those who have participated in past hunts would need no instruction.

Instructions

However if you are new to the OzBargain Treasure Hunt, here are some instructions. Basically various prizes will pop up on the site throughout the day during the hunt. They might appear on the (1) OzBargain Home Page, (2) New Deals Page and (3) any deals / forums page with 10 or more comments. Often you'll need to do a bit of scrolling as they usually pop up in the middle of deal listing or between comments. Here's an example:

Click to Reveal the Prize

There are quite a few factors that determine whether a prize pops up on the current page or not.

  • Each prize has a probability (i.e. 1% of chance that a gift card will drop)
  • Each prize also has a starting time (i.e. only live from 4PM on Monday)
  • Some prizes only appear on certain pages — more on that later.

Also note that if a prize pops up on a page, it won't stay there forever! It would disappear after 15 seconds without interaction. However after you click on the prize, it would reveal what the prize is and allow you to claim it.

Click to Claim the Prize

After you have claimed the prize, it would be added to your inventory, which is available on the Marketplace page. Marketplace would be very important in the later part of the game. You can add up to 4 items to your inventory — prizes basically would stop popping up on OzBargain once your inventory is full.

Marketplace

On the Marketplace page, you can

  • See what prizes you have in your inventory.
  • Drop prizes to vacate your inventory. Dropped prize will be back to the wild, ready to be picked up by other OzBargainers.
  • Put your prizes on the marketplace for trading.
  • See what prizes other users have put on the marketplace.
  • Request / Accept / Reject trades.

Trading is important because many prizes come in multiple parts — and you can only claim the final prize when you have collected all the parts!

Multipart Prize

Feel free to use private messages or this forum to organise trades, and claim as many prizes from me as you can :)

Prizes

Here is a list of prizes for EoFY Treasure Hunt 2020. Half of them are in the form of Prezzee Gift Cards where you can exchange it with merchants' gift cards to be spent online or instore. The higher valued prizes are the kind of splurge at the end of financial years — popular headphones/earbuds on OzBargain, and desktop computer from a popular store and a laptop from a popular brand.

  • 50x Prezzee eGift Card $25
  • 20x Prezzee eGift Card $50
  • 10x Prezzee eGift Card $100 (2 parts)
  • Apple AirPods 2 (2 parts)
  • Apple AirPods Pro (2 parts)
  • Bose QuietComfort 35 Mk II (2 parts)
  • Bose NCH-700 (3 parts)
  • Sony WF-1000XM3 (2 parts)
  • Sony WH-1000XM3 (2 parts)
  • Gaming PC at ~$1,000, likely from TechFast (3 parts)
  • Lenovo ThinkPad E-series at ~$1,000 (3 parts)

For those looking at collecting multipart prizes, here are some tips:

  • It's always the part 2 that's the rare one. There will actually be more part 1 / part 3 than part 2 that will pop up on the site.
  • 5 of the Prezzee eGift Card $100 part 2 will be released in random locations. However all the other part 2 will only appear on specific pages, and the hints will be released here during the hunt.

For example, I might be posting a comment in this post:

Prezzee eGift Card $100 (2/2) — what was the most voted deal in this financial year?

Answer would be Free GTA V from Epic Games, where there's a high probability that specific prize will appear.

    • Already snagged?

        got brodened

      • probably? I don't know if I'm doing this thing right :/

Is it just me being too dumb or is there some trick to this?
(so, what I have been doing is, scrolling through the deal page like crazy and reading/scrolling comments in popular posts like crazy)
    Would someone be kind enough?

    • +4

      It feels broken.

      • +3
        • Go to the forums and find a page that has only around 10 comments (but not below 10). The lower the comments the easier to scroll through. Make sure browser is full screen.
        • When the prizes are active open that page like 10 times in tabs (you don't want to do too many tabs as the prizes disappear after 15 seconds) using CTRL + click
        • scroll through each of the 10 tabs looking for the prize (if you have a small comment section you can tab > page down > inspect > next).
        • Go to your initial tab and right click "close tabs to the right" and start the process all over again.

I've found 2 prizes on exactly the same page using this technique.

Q: why not just refresh the page?
A: I've tried and actually refreshed too quick and refreshed passed the prize, easy to do unfortunately - the above technique I don't miss them.

    • +2

That is exactly the way all we do. I normally search page 15-20!

    • I've been refreshing every second for maybe 3-4 occasions today (during the non-hint ones) haven't seen a thing. Luck of the draw I guess. Some people seem to be getting a heap.

    • +1

The trick seems to me to be open a whole bunch of pages straight after the new prizes are out and scroll through manically. Then give up after about 4 pages (because all the new prizes have already been claimed).

Long story short. I gave up, as it seems like a waste of time to me. I had more luck with the eBay $0.99 sales.

    • I found one at the main page after repeatedly scrolling down, refresh, scroll down.

    • I've only gotten one thing, but the way I did it was:

      1) Go to a page that it could appear in, and scroll near to the bottom
      2) CTRL + F5 (not sure if needed, but regular refresh might just pull from your cache and thus never have treasure)
      3) Check the positioning of the page contents to see if there's been a shift
      4) Repeat 2) - 3) until things have shifted down by ~2cm
      5) CTRL+F, CTRL+V (paste "TREASURE" in your search)
      6) Spam click the CLAIM button.

What I mean with 3) is - if the page is exactly the same, the browser should leave everything in place as it scrolls to the same location each refresh. If a new thing was added above your scroll point (e.g. a treasure!), everything would shift down about 2cm or so.

      • I've done it without having to use CTRL but refreshed passed the prize by accident. I find it safer opening the same page in like 10 tabs, inspecting them then closing the tabs ("close tabs to the right") and starting again

    • +2

I've managed to claim a few random drop (non-hinted) ones.

My strategy has been a mix of NigelTufnel/Andard's and highwind's:

      • Be ready on the half hour
      • From a page with a bunch of posts that will be eligible (eg. Popular Deals or Hot Discussions), I Cmd-Tab to open a few new tabs
      • I Ctrl-Tab to go to the next tab, then Cmd-F / Cmd-V to search the page for "TREASURE"
      • Odds are high that the text isn't found, so I Cmd-W to close the tab, which opens the next one for me to search
      • If the page search does find one, try to click the Claim button before someone else gets to it 🙂
      • After 15 seconds or so (once any items would have cleared out), I "close other tabs", check the Marketplace page to see how many remain, and try again if there's still a chance.

No evidence behind it, but closing/opening different tabs felt less like I was getting a cached page compared to hanging on the same page, and kept things more interesting. I found one item on the home page, but mostly it seems easier to just try random deals with over ten comments.

      • nice! just managed to score one using this technique, cheers. Tried many other methods without success but that may have just been the luck of the draw.

      • you know what I've tested your technique and it's solid and fast… opening 10+ tabs then if you keep holding CTRL while pressing TAB, then F (without lifting CTRL) then V. After that though I wouldn't close the tab, just Tab straight to the next one. When you've done all the tabs go to the original tab, right click it and "close tabs to the right" and start all over again… might try this next year.

So several thousands of human hours are being wasted across Australia for this hunt (many of them from work hours) scrolling through random pages of this website. Such a poor formatting and timing. It should either be weekend/non-work hours only or even better in a draw format i.e. ozBargainers click a button to confirm participation and prices get distributed randomly. Isn't that the end result anyways? Why waste valuable human resources? Wouldn't time saving and better usage of time a bargain in itself? The 'Hint' based hunt (quiz format) is still relatively better and resonable if building awareness around navigating the website/exploring different pages/forums/resources is also a motive behind this excercise.

Maybe there is an element of 'sour grapes' as I didn't win any after wasting last few hours - but that's what I feel looking at the whole wild 'hunt' format! I hope moderators will concur and improvise for future.

    • Lmaooooo. Should've spent that time elsewhere

  • Some of you might have seen this coming.

TechFast Gaming PC (2/3) — What was the most popular "Desktop Computer" deal from this financial year that's NOT from TechFast? (Hint, it’s also a Dell)

    • Found? 0 active

      • who's the lucky bugger

        • Someone who's really really lucky, and a big winner in the past hunt as well. I better hook up with Luke @ TechFast now to discuss the specs.

          • @scotty: Dang is this confirmation of completed set😏

          • @scotty: "really really lucky" wink wink haha.

EDIT: All tongue in cheek, I've won something this time, and really enjoying this hunt!

          • +1

            @scotty:

Someone who's really really lucky, and a big winner in the past hunt as well.

If it's about luck/probability then something is suss eg they have an unfair advantage/technique? What other explanation is there?

            • @John Kimble: For this year's treasure hunt I've seen people worked in groups and traded amongst themselves (so they can put together a prize). However in the case of the Gaming PC winner, I think it's just really lucky, especially with trading.

      • Yes that's the deal.

Also; can you win more than one main prize?

You only have 4 slots — so if people play their cards right it's possible to get 2 main prizes.

        • Cheers for the confirmation. I think I've been pretty quick (within minutes) of each hint, but yet to see a p/2. Will keep trying ;)

          • @rompastompa: Yep, it's also luck. I was on that page from 2 active for about 3-5 mins, or however long it took. Refreshed every second, didn't once see the prize. So it's not just a skill based competition, there's also an element of luck.

            • +1

@exc3113nce: I was going to preload most popular techfast deal and most popular Desktop deal before the drop then I forgot…

          • @rompastompa: I'm yet to see any anywhere. So after the first few minutes of a hint we can expect they'll stop showing hunt items? Or still worth looking at those pages now (to maybe snag something else)?

            • @Abaddon: You can, you'll have just as much luck in hunt in those threads as any other deal/forum post. The p/2 items have already gone, so have to wait until the next hint.

        • There's still chance nobody will trade/complete the sets tho, so prize in limbo? :/

  • does anyone have part 2 of $100 prezzee?

    • I have part one =D

      • Swap for Part 1 of Airpods Pro?

        • +1

          Still thinking about it. :)

    • I have part 2, looking for a part 1.

      • +1

Keep it, if none of us could find the other part maybe we can come out with some deal together at least each get $50 :)
        Do you have $25?

        • Yeah I know the part 2 is the harder part to find.
          I don't have $25, no.

          • @JoKing: So let's see what can we do mate!
If none can find we deal?

    • +1

      yea

      • -1

ok, why are you putting your wins on marketplace? do you genuinely not want them or are you doing it for the sake of flexing?

      • Hey muscleoverlord, interested in swapping your Part 1 $100 Prezzee for Part 1 Airpods Pro?

  • I want to trade my Bose NCH-700 (3/3) for a voucher, if anyone's keen.

  • -2

I legit feel this is bs, cause i dont see any hunt or anything anywhere on website

    • I only see A Hunt is on the way, I dont see the OZBaragin Tressure HUNT as in red anywhere in near past

  • You might need to get your calculator out for this one. Or better, Excel.

Sony WH-1000XM3 (2/2) — How much has OzBargain given to the charities in the last FIVE financial years? Make that the node ID!

  • -3

WHAT IS THIS PURE BS DOES IT EVEN WORK ?? IF SO HOW THE HELL IT WORKS ?? SEEMS TO ME EVEN WORSE THAN EBAY AIRPODS DEAL
I AM NOT SEEING A POINT OF THIS

    • +2

It would appear you may need a new keyboard with a functioning capslock button. Please check out this OzBargain favourite here.

      • -1

or try and win new laptop

      • -1

WELL yeah i dont see a single difference, the pages is how you'd expect them to see as if you were a non member. ITS NOT WORTH MY TIME I AM FEELING THIS IS A SCAM.
AT LEAST EBAY AIRPODS ARE LEGIT DEAL BUT THIS ONE ?? WTF IS THIS ??
You enter a code somewhere or click to reedem a deal or simply get for free or what the heck is this pure grade bs

        • ummm did you even read the instructions? you dont enter any code, it simply pops up and you click "claim now"

        • Ever heard the term "quit while you're ahead"?

    • +2

Its just a bit of fun. You don't have to play if you don't feel its worth your time. There are some members who are full on into it.

    • SEEMS TO ME EVEN WORSE THAN EBAY AIRPODS DEAL

Airpods deals are too easy compared to this.

      • No they aren't easy. They go out before i can even put out on the coupon code and paypal detail

        • +1

Everyone knows you can't use Paypal, the checkout is too slow. Gotta have a card saved to your account.

          • @JoKing: eBay doesn't take card it stops using card after 2 times of using on eBay

            • @USER DC: … what?

              • @JoKing: On eBay website my card never work, keeps saying that try some other payment method and eBay support is already top class is bullshitting excuses, had talked to bank as well they say they aren't declining payment, its ebay or paypal thats not processing card payment. So the card only works if paying through PayPal
