OzBargain EoFY 2020 Treasure Hunt - $7,000 of Prizes to be Won! Starting 22 June at 12PM

Our annual Easter Treasure Hunt took a break this year, but we are now back with one that has bigger and fancier prizes for the End of Financial Year this year! Similar to previous years' format (2019, 2018, 2017, etc) so those who have participated in past hunts would need no instruction.

Instructions

However if you are new to the OzBargain Treasure Hunt, here are some instructions. Basically various prizes will pop up on the site throughout the day during the hunt. They might appear on the (1) OzBargain Home Page, (2) New Deals Page and (3) any deals / forums page with 10 or more comments. Often you'll need to do a bit of scrolling as they usually pop up in the middle of deal listing or between comments. Here's an example:

Click to Reveal the Prize

There are quite a few factors that determine whether a prize pops up on the current page or not.

  • Each prize has a probability (i.e. 1% of chance that a gift card will drop)
  • Each prize also has a starting time (i.e. only live from 4PM on Monday)
  • Some prizes only appear on certain pages — more on that later.

Also note that if a prize pops up on a page, it won't stay there forever! It would disappear after 15 seconds without interaction. However after you click on the prize, it would reveal what the prize is and allow you to claim it.

Click to Claim the Prize

After you have claimed the prize, it would be added to your inventory, which is available on the Marketplace page. Marketplace would be very important in the later part of the game. You can add up to 4 items to your inventory — prizes basically would stop popping up on OzBargain once your inventory is full.

Marketplace

On the Marketplace page, you can

  • See what prizes you have in your inventory.
  • Drop prizes to vacate your inventory. Dropped prize will be back to the wild, ready to be picked up by other OzBargainers.
  • Put your prizes on the marketplace for trading.
  • See what prizes other users have put on the marketplace.
  • Request / Accept / Reject trades.

Trading is important because many prizes come in multiple parts — and you can only claim the final prize when you have collected all the parts!

Multipart Prize

Feel free to use private messages or this forum to organise trades, and claim as many prizes from me as you can :)

Prizes

Here is a list of prizes for EoFY Treasure Hunt 2020. Half of them are in the form of Prezzee Gift Cards where you can exchange it with merchants' gift cards to be spent online or instore. The higher valued prizes are the kind of splurge at the end of financial years — popular headphones/earbuds on OzBargain, and desktop computer from a popular store and a laptop from a popular brand.

  • 50x Prezzee eGift Card $25
  • 20x Prezzee eGift Card $50
  • 10x Prezzee eGift Card $100 (2 parts)
  • Apple AirPods 2 (2 parts)
  • Apple AirPods Pro (2 parts)
  • Bose QuietComfort 35 Mk II (2 parts)
  • Bose NCH-700 (3 parts)
  • Sony WF-1000XM3 (2 parts)
  • Sony WH-1000XM3 (2 parts)
  • Gaming PC at ~$1,000, likely from TechFast (3 parts)
  • Lenovo ThinkPad E-series at ~$1,000 (3 parts)

For those looking at collecting multipart prizes, here are some tips:

  • It's always the part 2 that's the rare one. There will actually be more part 1 / part 3 than part 2 that will pop up on the site.
  • 5 of the Prezzee eGift Card $100 part 2 will be released in random locations. However all the other part 2 will only appear on specific pages, and the hints will be released here during the hunt.

For example, I might be posting a comment in this post:

Prezzee eGift Card $100 (2/2) — what was the most voted deal in this financial year?

Answer would be Free GTA V from Epic Games, where there's a high probability that specific prize will appear.

I'll swap you Part 1 and Part 2 of the $100 (so essentially, $100)?

      • +1

I thought you had an exam ? loool

        • I HAVE! Im in it!

      • +1

        done deal

        • Dang that's a good deal, I would have worked something out to trade you part 1.

  • +4

Another year I could made more money playing the pokies instead… or working today

    • and yesterday,,, 😜

      • Maybe that was my problem, should have taken two days off

  • Somehow I’ve stuffed up twice so far! :-( I had pre existing requests, but then someone offered me something different so I’d accept that, which appears to default that new item to the pre existing trade requests…

Can I make a suggestion for next year? Can the pre-exisiting trades awaiting a response become voided if the person is no longer in possession of the item?? Or alternatively an additional opportunity to for the trade initiator to approve the trade before swapping them? Does this make sense (probably not 😂)

I’ve lost $75 unintentionally somehow… 😔 Or am I just doing something wrong?

  • +1

Got a lot of (different) parts, and few OzBargain history stories from the treasure hunts.
Thanks scotty! Great piece of code you have there.

  • I'm guessing there's only 1 AirPods Pro. So should I release part 1 back in the wild to annoy whoever finds it? haha

  • Anyone need anything or are all prizes pretty much locked in now?

  • +2

Thanks Scotty / rest of the team!

Something to think about for next one:

Trading - Being able to trade multiple items, or trade for nothing. Say I wanted to trade both parts to receive one part 2, The other party might need to trade a useful item like a $25 and part 2 to complete the trade.

I don't think you need to change anything, but more skill over luck would be good (but I'm bias as I felt I was quick enough to find the solution, yet didn't get all the prizes!! :))

    • +3

Rompa I will trade you my $25 for your $25.

      • Someone literally offered me this trade for real

        • +1

Someone wanted to trade my gaming PC 3/3 for their gaming PC 3/3, I accepted for the lolz.

    • Multiple to one trading — yeah we can consider that. One issue would be making a user having more than 4 items, which might make the game more unbalanced (unless some handicap when someone has more than 4 items)

      • Perhaps having a timer with a warning saying something like:

You currently have 5 items in your stash. Please trade or drop an item or in 30 minutes, a random item will automatically be dropped. BEWARE, YOU NOW HAVE 29 MINUTES!

(Warning on trade, in Market place and in Notifications)

  • I need part 2 $100, have $50 to pay :)
anyone willing please let me know :)

    • -2

Wow I am done trading it, have both $100 part now (^_^)

  • +6

One vote here for more skill based rather than luck.

  • who wants to trade me somehting for my first part of the WH sony mx3 earphones?

  • All finished! Thanks Scotty! I think I ctrl-f'd enough today

  • +1

Super stoked that I won the bose NCH 700 headphones. First time taking part in this too, perseverance pays off! Thanks for organising scotty.

    • May I know how did you achieve this? Any tips? 🙂

      • +3

Woke up at 7AM to do the treasure hunt when traffic was lower. also i had the day off work so had time to keep looking.

    • +1

Didn’t I see you offer both parts of the $100 gift card on the market place?

  • Does anyone have Apple AirPods 2 part 2? :)

    • Only got AirPods Pro part 1 here.

  • If anyone has a part 2 $100 prezzee please PM me.

  • It looks like from the treasure hunt inventories page that out of the 88 prizes available 87 prizes are winners meaning that there are 87 prizes that are completed sets. Which means that there is only 1 number 2 part of item left that is not completed yet by not having its other parts.

Going by the fact that it appears that major prizes appear to be claimed at the moment I am assuming the last uncompleted set is for a Prezzee eGift Card $100 and whoever has it only has part 2. So if the person that has part 2 of Prezzee eGift card and does not have anything else to trade for the part 1 they either need to find another item that someone drops and get someone to agree to trade with their found dropped item for part 1 or cut their losses and trade with someone for a $25 or $50 eGift card that this person can then complete the set.

    • No it's not like that.

"87 winners" meant that 87 users have acquired at least one prize "piece". As some prizes are incomplete the actual number of winners would be less. There are also some users with multiple prizes. One guy had 4x $25 gift card when I looked at it earlier today.

      • Okay looks like I interpreted that wrong It looked like it lined up almost perfectly with my theory that out of the 163 treasures that there was 87 completed prizes out of the 88 available and only 1 was not completed yet so this means all the prizes could be completed or could still be more part 2 of $100 eGift card left if someone got one of 5 random parts available and is not as active on Ozbargain.

Thanks for this fun and productive procrastinating time for me playing this treasure hunt, I managed to get lucky with the 2 eGift cards I got.

    • +1

tbh its not really cut losses for $50 because it's basically the same thing (2x $50 = $100). I guess $50 is less risk. you need two parts for $100 - either all or nothing. anyways,

if you have part 2, msg me :D

trusted trader - trade with confidence
      100% feedback rating

      • Unfortunately I do not have part 2 of 100 eGift card I was just pointing out that due to the way this game works ie apparently from comments in here you cannot trade an item for nothing or trade 1 item for 2 it makes it difficult to complete a set if you do not have 2 items or more. This means that if you only had 1 item because there appears to be no more treasures to find it would mean that you would have to cut your losses and trade your part 2 of a set for something that will get you something rather than hold on to a part of a prize you cannot complete by the deadline tomorrow.

So if person is stuck with not being able to complete a item set it is optimal to sell for a eGift card to someone who has the other parts or someone with multiple gift cards that they can then trade to complete the set.

        • Not sure if it matters, but I just released my piece of Apple AirPods 2 (1/2) back into the wild. Maybe someone can pick it up for trading purposes

  • +1

Anyone who just doesn't like earphones/headphones? I can trade part 1 and 2 of a $100 Prezzee gift card for part 1 and 2 of airpods 2, pro, sony wf1000xm3 etc

    • +1

In sure someone who doesn't like earphones/headphones can easily sell their pair for more money.

      • True but was hoping to find someone who didn't want to go through the whole selling process. Ether way, I understand it's not the greatest deal but its all I got :(

  • Thanks for the fun scotty

  • Anyone have any tips from previous competitions to make it easier to win something?

    • +2

      Here are my tips:

      • Have multiple tabs open to continuously refresh (alt+d+enter to duplicate tabs)
      • Use ctrl+f instead of scrolling (search for "treasure hunt")
      • For the prizes that can appear on any deals page find a page with <30 comments so that reloading is faster
      • Also don't open too many tabs as I have had the excruciating experience of having the popup appear on my page but me being on a different page meant that it disappeared in front of my eyes by the time I got to it :(

Personally I won 2 prizes during this competition but I'm not sure if it was because I just got lucky or these tips actually helped.

      • +1

I would like tips from the person that found at least 8 on the first day haha! Keep in mind it can be largely luck. Above someone was on this page trying to find where the marketplace was and found one!

        • Oh, maybe they just made a bot that kept on clicking through pages until it found the active winning treasure hunt image/text and redeemed it.

      • Many thanks for this!

  • +2

I've been an ozbargainer since the site first launched.

Never seen even 1 of these treasure hunt banners…

I visit the site numerous times almost every day too :(

    Feels bad :(

    • +1

The treasures are generally found within the first few minutes of being released so you really have to aim to get a treasure when they become active in the 30 minute intervals they are released. I did not really try that hard only took it bit seriously on Tuesday afternoon starting around maybe 1 PM and before then only did some occasional looks at treasures hunt when this started on Monday evening.

Despite doing a less than optimal strategy I managed to get lucky and get 2 eGift cards which is good because I had no interest in any other prize other than possibility the laptop or computer which would have taken too much effort and very unlikely to win for me.

So what I did was the first treasure was I used mostly legitimate way to get it not using ctlr+f or any special trick to get pages to open faster, where I just open many forum posts with 10 comments or more and scrolled through them and just kept opening new and sometimes the same forum posts and deal posts and found a treasure in a forum post. The second treasure I just apply the same method cycling through deal posts, new deal post, front page and forum posts sometimes just repeating the same forum posts or deals and scrolling for treasures where sometimes to make it more interesting I open pages I have not open before and found my second one in a deal post.

  • Is there any prizes left? I only just saw this

    • -1

      Negative. All gone.

  • I just had a quick look at the current winners — I think you guys have claimed ALL the prizes including the multipart ones. Good job with finding & trading!

At 12PM you'll get an address form on the Marketplace page. If you did not get any physical prizes (i.e. on Prezzee eGift Card) then you only need to fill in the email address for delivery. You can even leave that empty then I'll just use your registered email address at OzBargain to send you the prize.

However if you are getting computers or headphones — make sure you fill in not just address but name + phone number as well, as I'll need those fields to fill in delivery forms.

Our next hunt will hopefully be back to Easter weekend next year. Feel free to leave suggestions here.

    • Thank you again, Scotty!

    • thanks, scotty!

      • Treasure Hunt Finished!

As you have successfully claimed some treasures, please use the following form to update your delivery details. If your prize is digitally delivered (e-gift cards, PayPal credit, etc) then you just need to leave your email address there. If your prize is a T-shirt, please also specify the size (S, M, L, XL & XXL).

Can I have a Tshirt for later hehe.
        XXXXL

    • Thanks again Scotty! First time participating in this. Would love a Christmas hunt ;)

    • Thank you so much :)

    • +3

      Thanks!
Dumb question, when claiming a digital prize should the form be retaining our email address after hitting submit? A pop up says "Your delivery information has been saved" but upon revisiting the page the form is empty.

      • My bad. Can you please try again? Looking at the code I think we didn't save the phone or email properly.

        • It looks to be working now.

          • @mapax: Same popup so as long as my entered email is stuck there on refresh, it's "submitted" ?

        • It makes me sad that I've done so many of these never to even see one in my feed…

We need a wall. A wall to keep the lucky people out! A wall they shall pay to build with their winnings!

          Let's make ozbargain great again!

          Covid is a myth.

          White privledge matters!

Seriously though, makes me sad Scotty…

    • Thank you!

    • Thanks Scotty - this was fun!

    • Thanks. Scotty!

    • Legend scotty! Thank you for your efforts

  • Thanks Scotty! Made my procrastination fun! Enjoyed it.

  • Can’t believe this competition ended so soon! It hasn’t even been 3 days

  • All prizes ordered and gift cards dispatched. Hence we have concluded this year's treasure hunt.

Other than TechFast and Lenovo, who both don't have reputation of fast delivery, and the winner of Sony WH-1000XM3 which somehow the seller has a longer delay, most should have them delivered by early next week.

    • Received! =D

      Thanks (^_^)

    • -1

Received the gift cards! Thanks so much again scotty!

    • Thanks, Scotty

    • Thank you Scotty :)

    • Got the email. Thanks Scotty :)

    • Thanks again scotty. This was my first time partaking in an OzBargain competition.

    • Thanks Scotty! Received my gift cards!

    • Hey Scotty, I happened to check now and the form is unavailable :(. Is there any chance i am able to claim my prezzee gc.

      • I have already sent out all the prize — if you have won a gift card but haven't filled out the form, the gift card would have been sent out to the email address of your ozbargain account.

        • Awesome, got that, thank you Scotty :-)

        • Hi Scotty, I got the $25 gift card, but I haven't seen it in my email yet. Can you check for me? I think I might of typo my email address or something! Checked spam and everything. Thanks!

          • @redpump: Hi. It's sent to that same email address you had with us since 2010, and Prezzee reported it has been "delivered" (but not opened). Therefore in theory it should be somewhere in your email account.

However I can re-deliver it to an alternate email address. Please PM me a new email address.

            • +2

@scotty: Might be worth mentioning it comes from Delvu Media?
I nearly deleted it as spam.

              • @mapax: Oh thanks! I was looking up under Ozbargain! Thanks @mapax and @scotty! Found it now.

  • …yep. didnt see any…as expected. beginning to think this is some elaborate prank by staff & ozbargain premium members to troll us 'normies'

    • +2

Nah, I won and I’ve had my premium membership revoked, guess it could have been a glitch where anyone that’s been premium could win?

    • +1

there's really little chance you would have seen one if you weren't refreshing 3x/sec or opening 20 tabs when the prizes were active.

I mean there would have been a chance it popped up on a page you were browsing but probably 80% chance it disappeared before you even scrolled down to it.

Heck even if you clicked on it there was a 50% chance that it had been "claimed" by someone else.

It wasn't really a game for the casual browser.
