Seems like a good price for a 2060. Not sure how this specific card compares with other 2060's

The KO edition was originally using cut down RTX 2070 cores I think.

Probably a reasonable price for the card in the current environment, roughly equivalent to GTX 1080 performance + ray tracing.

Would be better to wait just a bit longer for Big Navi and RTX 3000 series to come out though, I think.

    • +4

actually i think they were 2080 cores from memory :)

    • 2080 cores

    • Isn't it still using the 2080 cores?

      • Maybe but I wouldn't be surprised if newer batches weren't. I got the impression that the early KOs were rushed to market to meet the $299USD MSRP deal that Nvidia had going on, in an attempt to beat the RX 5600XT.

        • Possibly, must be luck of the draw now. New or old.

    • Do you mean the KO edition is roughly equivalent to GTX 1080 performance + ray tracing?

      • both the KO and any other variant of the RTX 2060. The fact that the early KO models used RTX 2080 cores doesn't make it outperform any other 2060 variant except in some compute tasks.

  • +2

It's a RTX 2080 in disguise. It has a TU-104 die in it.See the Gamers Nexus review:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUFRBnJdx3Y

The KO Ultra is also $525.91 + delivery: https://www.amazon.com.au/EVGA-GeForce-Gaming-Backplate-06G-…

    • +1

What's the real world benefit of those cores though? Is it like the CPU world where you get better OC or similar?

      • +1

CPU and gpu are runin at the maximum die capability. Those that fail are then downgraded to a lower setting until they run stable. They’re then sold at that rating. This maximises their profits.

Oc lower cores is possible but there is no guarantee that they will be stable.

        • +1

Lol you might be able to get 50MHz behind a 2070 Super, but it was downbinned because it just didn't make it.

      • +3

Better compute performance. Gaming performance is identical to standard 2060. Gamers nexus reached out to their NVIDIA partner who confirmed it was an oversight so future KO parts won't get the same benefits.

        • What so the testers got given a 2080 in disguise to artificially boost performance?

          • @4foxache: Not at all, most reviewers don't bother with compute performance testing. It's just that gamers nexus is one of the few that donand found higher performance

  • Currently have a 1060… would this be a good upgrade? Or should i wait for the 3000 series cards? Pairing this with a i5-9600k at the moment

    • +7

      honestly wait.

    • +2

      wait :)

    • wait for 3060

    • While it's not an insignificant upgrade (approx 55% faster in most titles), the 1060 is a good hold out card. The new cards are coming really soon, so it might be better to wait the 2-3 more months.

    • +6

Wait for 5060 until late 2022.

      • +1

If you're waiting for the 5060 you may as well wait for the 6060.

  • hmm i am in the middle of building a gaming rig from scratch.. is it better for me to get a 1660 super for $350 and upgrade later in the year or buy the KO Ultra $525 and upgrade at a much later date next year? My main goal is to do 1440p gaming at 144hz but i happy with 1080p for now i guess :). I was looking at the 2070 super but its a bit out of my reach.

    • probably go with the 1660 super and wait for price drops or the 3000 series cards. 2060 can't play every game at 144hz 1440p.

    • +2

RTX 3060 is coming, and will be inside your price range of you're looking at 2060 Super cards.

Expect a starting price pretty similar to this really, and it should be an October-November release to eat into console sales, but perhaps as late as January.

If you need a card sooner, you'll probably find better resale value from picking up an RX570 to hold you over.

      • Yup thats what i am doing now … waiting for the 2060 super

      • +2

        great thanks for the advice.

    • 1660 super link?

  • waiting is the best at the moment

  • -1

Seems ok. I picked up a Galax 2060 Super yesterday for $540+shipping so this doesn't seem too great of a deal.

    • where?

      • Shopping Express had it yesterday I believe for that price. Not sure if it's still around though. They also had the Galax 2070 Super for 750+shipping too.

  • -3

not sure y wud ppl wait for a newer model , once u wait u wud have other newer models on hand to be released
plus newer models wud cost more anyways

    • +4

Because of the enormous performance uptick expected at similar prices.

Remember that this is still an equivalent USD$310, so it's actually above current 2060 starting MSRP.

      • +4

And NVIDIA don't release new GPUs every year.

    • It's all opportunity cost. Would playing games be worth it now or would you rather wait get it cheaper or get something like dlss that could potentially make your next gpu last years longer?

      Haste makes waste.

    • The idea is that when new models come in, even if you don't want to pay for the newest model, the older models will see prices come down.

I do agree that paying a premium to chase FPSs at this point is mostly gratuitous indulgence.

  • +1

Good deal back to somewhat retail price, PCpartspicker had this at $489 on release.

Just a side note, is it a bit mad that a card of this cost only has 1 DP and 1 HDMI? That DVI must feel a bit useless.

    • With those ports, this is looking to be a 'budget' upgrade for lower spec systems. I think most people would be running single monitor anyways…

      • Even Dual monitor should be fine. DP for main "gaming" display, HDMI for second.

    • Most people who are buying this might have an old monitor which is DVI, which is a god send to them.

      My mate is like that.

  • Please check ports at back of this GPU, just having 2 monitors with same connection you won't want this.

Unless you are willing to get a converter.

Appears to have 1 of each DVI, HDMI & DisplayPort.

  • What's everyones vibe on 20xx vs waiting for 30xx? Currently still on an rx480 so not terrible, not great. Happy to update but not going to bother if there'll be a more economical option soon

    • I'm in the same position, my RX 570 absolutely doesn't need an upgrade but I can't stop looking at GPU deals

Unless I come across a card that is at least 50% better performance for no more $300 I won't touch it

I'm more interested in the short period where 20XX might be more affordable when 30XX comes out

  • I am a bit confused why everyone is excited about the price ??? It seems close to normal RRP !

Also, why wouldn't the 5600XT have an advantage over 2060 ?

    Such as

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Sapphire-11296-01-20G-Radeon-Backp…

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Sapphire-Radeon-Pulse-Backplate-Gr…

    https://www.amazon.com.au/XFX-14GBPS-1620MHz-Graphics-RX-56X…

    • I think overall the RTX 2060 is 5-8% or so faster than the RX 5600XT (plus ray tracing, for what that's worth), but if you could snatch an RX 5600 XT for closer to $400 it'd be a great deal in its category IMO.

      • +1

Radeon has serious compatibility issue with Teknoparrot emulator ( Time zone games)

      • +3

isnt it the other way around ? with 5600 XT fairly handily beating the 2060. It's the 2060 Super that should be beating the 5600XT

  • Tempted to pick this up as an upgrade to my 1060 in my new build, what do people think?

    • Already been asked…

      • Eugh so it has. I thought that was a 1660 question too. That'll teach me to skim read at work

      • Post fail…

        • Not the neg btw.

          • @Void: I was commenting on my double post fail :)

  • Not sure how this specific card compares with other 2060's

They’re basically same chip from nvidia, but with enhancements over components/ cooling and factory overclocks. Evga has a massively big and equally confusing lineup of cards for the same series.
    2060 is your basic card.

    edit:
I hope they won’t do a shitty job with delivering of this item. I purchased gpu from amazon us and it was delivered in a plastic bag with box seals damaged or cut and disfigured retail box.

    • its prob fastway couriers fault? my last item came damaged…

      • But courier isnt the one doing packing right? Mishandling for sure by courier. I think mine was through dhl

        • If it comes from overseas, it's entirely possible it could be repackaged, and not by anyone who gives a crap ..

        • I've never had issues with packages when Amazon sends it using dhl.

  • $484 now.
