Samsung G9 49" QLED Ultrawide Curved Gaming Monitor G-Sync 240HZ - $2799 w/ Bonus Samsung Portable SSD T7 500GB Grey ($188) @ HN

1170

This is a pretty pricy monitor, however the premium is worth it. You can preorder it for the 30/7 and will get a bonus 500GB Samsung external ssd, which is the best price and offer out of any online stores offering this monitor, plus is easy to file a claim if something is wrong with the monitor (which has been the case due to callbacks of this model in the US)

    • Email LG. The more people that ask them, the more they will see the demand. I did.

    • OP chiming in here. I honestly think the value proposition of this monitor say compared to a 48CX is terrible, especially if the CX launches ~ $2000 here. I would honestly prefer to get that and the Xiaomi Mi Surface Display for $600 in this deal for $2600. Cheaper than this monitor and you get two displays!! Not to mention, the OLED is about as future proof as this monitor with 4K 120hz. Please release it here LG, we want you!

Hey OP, you know that this model has since been discontinued (I know it's only been 3 days)

I think they are either completely revisiting it, it's not officially a recall since it went to retailers but no customers bought it yet, but yeah the monitor was peeling away from the backing causing backlight bleed spots, significant ones

        • Ha? People have already picked it up and tested it. Check the last comment.

          • @nadan: Yeah, they'll need to return them then, it's flawed, we must be unlucky being out in the sticks here, much of the ROTW hadn't gotten it yet and never will

Are we getting to a point where some monitors are just TOO big lol

I thought OZB was for broke people like me.

Thanks. Bought two for my MS Excel. I can see so many column now

    • All those nested ifs in the formula bar now

  • What kind of rig would you need to get the most out of this?

    • probs a rig cost you around similar price haha..

      • +4

That'll just be the price of the GPU to drive this beast!

      • Twice that at least.

    • SLI RTX Titan

  • Make sure it's a good one
Samsung repair and warranty are beyond a joke

  • This monitor costs 1.8x more than my entire setup :/

  • Probably a stupid question… but this would be the selling point for me.
From the specs, I see it has 3 inputs (2 x DP and 1 x HDMI)

Does anyone know if I connect 1xDP and 1xHDMI for example, if i could split the signal to show two separate 2560x1440 displays?

So essentially the DisplayPort for PC and at the same time HDMI for a gaming console as side by side.

    • +1

HDMI will be locked to 90hz I believe. You can have two screens but will be locked to the lower specs one (HDMI). Still 1440p

      • Even HDMI 2.0 is capped to only 90Hz?
        I thought its bandwidth could manage 144Hz @ 1440p

        • +1

          You are correct Sir.
          "
HDMI 2.0 is also fairly standard and can be used for 240Hz at 1080p, 144Hz at 1440p, and 60Hz at 4K. The latest HDMI 2.1 adds native support for 120Hz at 4K UHD and 60Hz at 8K.
          "

          • @Polandball: Sweet, thanks man! I appreciate the help.
Now I just need to decide whether it's worth clicking on "Add to cart" that my mouse cursor has been hovering over for like an hour. Ugh!!

            • +3

@episys: you can click Add to cart

just don't click confirm and pay

    • Yeah its called PBP (picture by picture)
Both displays get locked to 60hz with this monitor.

  • +1

    $2.8k and not usb-c….?

    • If they could they probably would, it's an extremely large resolution at a very high frame rate. USB C probably doesn't have enough bandwidth.

      • Thunderbolt would.

      • you can get native res at 60hz with usb-c on the AOC 49in 1440p 120hz monitor

  • +5

$2800 monitor that's 5000+ pixels across, no one bats an eye. Drew says the $50 premium for gen4 storage is worth it, everybody loses their mind.

    • +3

Woah settle down there big spender…. not everyone has cash to throw away on Gen4 PCIE….

  • Was told by Samsung Australia that it won't be released in Australia. Ordered one from Centrecom (no SSD promo). Next week HN has it with better deal.
C-com not answering phone calls. Anyone know if Centrecom will refund me full amount since its pre-order only?
    Thanks!

    • +2

Samsung Australia are so useless and out of their depth. Asked them when it would be releasing here only last week for them to say they have no idea.

    • +1

My mate pre ordered a monitor recently and they refunded him due to no stock.

Don't try call them email instead.

      • @Polandball, don't bother calling. I waited from 10 am - 6 pm for an online support with no one answering.

Monitors are becoming too wide with not enough vertical pixels to match. I would much rather a 38 inch 3840 x 1600 resolution monitor than a 49 inch 1440p monitor. I have seen both in person and added vertical pixels make a big difference when gaming and using documents.

    • Unless you play racing games. Then 49 1000R is a sweet spot.

    • with not enough vertical pixels to match

You're describing the entire point of this monitor though. This + more vertical pixels is just a regular giant monitor, which also exist.

    • It's great for coding.

  • Wow luvin' the monster monitor. Not the price though. Too rich for me.

  • +4

Can finally watch wide Putin vids properly

  • -1

It is basically 2x27 inch together. I am currently using 2x 27 inch so this is actually a great sweet spot for me. However, 2.8k is pretty insane. I would probably wait till it drops a little bit and then buy.

    • +1

2x 27 is killing my neck. Most of the time I have to turn my head to one side.
So I am thinking replacment them with single 49 inch 32:9screen or a 43 inch 4k 16:9 one.

      • That's what I'm thinking! my neck kept turning left and right a lot more than my Alienware 34in. I think that put more stresses on my neck! Would love to try this out when it drops to 2k.

      • Lol, if 2x27 is too much, 1x49 Wide is no different, as above it is basically 2x27's without the bezels

        • +1

you can keep you head in the middle when you use it as a single monitor, like gaming, watching movie.

but 2x27, you have to choose one side.

          • @zs8574832: …but if you cant turn your head more than 13.5 inches in either direction, why not just get a single 27inch? you're never going to appreciate the other 27 inches your never comortable looking at.

  • +1

49" ay? Perfect for Solitaire and emails :P

    • +3

      minesweep is where its at

  • One day

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought 2 for dual monitor setup

  • Thanks OP. Ordered 26. Now I can make a circle of monitors and sit inside.

    Full immersion!

    • Don't you just need 3 or 4 to make a full circle?

      • +1

        Based on some google results, 1000R = 1000mm (i.e. 1m) radius.

A full circle will bring it to ~6.3m circumference, so probably need ~5.2 monitors for a full circle?

My maths could be wrong though.. ;P

If u get 26.. Maybe can stack 5 circles up and make a tower for full immersion? :P

        • +1

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. Whether lying down or standing up, all one would see is monitors.

  • I've been using the 49" Kogan 3840x1080 one and the experience is great. Depending on your game, the 'side' might be a bit stretch out

  • The rundown for anyone considering this. If it's using the same tech as the G7
    - Motion is as good if not better than a TN Panel
    - Colour is good, though over saturated
    - HDR1000 is a marketing term and is a joke. Without a FALD backlight and only 10 dimming zones, you're better off turning it off

  • Man this is an awesome monitor. Though personally overkill for me.
I really like the G7. I believe it is the sweet spot.

Currently have an Acer Predator X34P so cannot justify the upgrade.

  • +1

lol @ the part number: LC49G95T "SSEXXY"

  • +1

Thanks OP ordered 31 for that Fibonacci gaming experience.

  • yea dvds look pretty good on this thanks op

  • Interested in the the 27inch version although hesitant about going to VA panels coming from an IPS. I'm a bit of an IPS snob but in real life how does it compare?

    • Check the Hardware Unboxed review. This VA panel has response times better than most TN panels, with double the contrast of IPS

      • +1

Thanks that review convinced me to stick with IPS, especially flat lol.

        • I agree, the curve works well with ultrawide, not much so with this size

      • VA panels colour shift, so in curved monitors its actually a bad idea lol.

        • It's the opposite actually, because of the strong curve each part of the display is not at an angle to your eyes

    • If you are just after the size and not too worried about the gaming features LG & Dell do versions in the same size and res on an IPS panel.

  • Can anyone recommend a good vga cable to pair with this?

  • Covid must be hurting the hip pockets, the pre-order bonus this year is a shadow on last years version: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/473354

  • This monitor doesn't have USB C unfortunately, so you can't use one cable hooked to macbook to charge and use as monitor at same time. Disappointed a bit

    • USB-C doesn't support this resolution.

      • I’m guessing @wiselyfoolish meant Thunderbolt, which can can carry a full DP 1.4 signal and does support this resolution.

        • Yes I was meaning thunderbolt. I guess they omitted to keep the price down

  • Can you connect your main PC and laptop and share the screen?

    • Yes, see comments in this post on pbp

  • Not even 4K pffff

  • Went into HN maribyrnong (holy shit I live the next suburb down and it took me like 3 minutes to spell out this suburb) to preorder and they supplier said 10 weeks ETA??

Anyone else have any luck at another store?

  • Is there any good reason why this monitor is curved?

    • Its massive…
You need to turn your head a lot less to look from one side to another.
Even dual screen setups don't place the monitors completely flat

      • +1

Also it's a VA panel, which has some problems with viewing angles. Not accounting for the fact that the curve is required to make 49" practical like you said, I imagine a flat 49" VA would be impossible to accurately look at the sides (when viewing from the centre).

      • +1

I have the CRG9 and the curvature really has not much to do with turning your head - at least at this size. I've also had a flat 40 inch monitor before.

It isn't even really about how well the monitor views at that angle in terms of panel - it's more that a large proportion of the screen is no longer facing you on a flat plane. It's the perception that what you're watching at the sides, "isn't for you" (for lack of a better way of explaining at close to midnight). It's as if you're watching a television that is facing someone else. I can't really easily put it into words. A skewed image, if you like.

As you say, people don't rarely put multiple monitors in flat configuration.

  • Anyone know what FPS I could play games like Fortnite/CoD/Destiny 2 etc with this monitor and a 3900X + 2080TI?

Currently using an Alienware 24 240hz monitor and getting pretty constant 240fps at 1080p on Fortnite. This is the first widescreen 5120x1440 montior I've seen that is also 240hz. All the previous ones I've seen have been 144hz. Have been thinking about widescreen for a while and this is the only monitor that ticks all the boxes of what I want. I'm guessing it won't be fully ulitized until the nVidia 3080TI cards are out.

I know people are going to say it's a waste of money and what not, but I'd be curious if I could still get 150+fps.

    • Play it with black bars on the side.

Most competitive games crops the top and bottom of your field of view to give you widescreen support so you're actually at a disadvantage.

Cod actually gives you a wider field of view though.
So a slight advantage, but runs like shit. On my 1440p ultrawide I was getting drops to 70fps while on medium settings.

      Have 9700k and 2080ti

      • Thanks mate. Sounds like it may be best to stay with my 1080p 240hz monitor for now.

  • Nice monitor though retail price is $2799 already? Because of the bonus SSD?

    • That's the launch price, other places are selling it for $2899 no preorder bonus so comparatively Gerry has done okay.

  • Is anyone aware of a VESA 100 single arm adjustable desk mount that can take the weight of this? 🤷‍♂️
If so, please let me know as I’m struggling to find one.

    Thanks

    • I have an atdec heavy duty mounting arm, and is rated up to 16kg flat and 12kg curved.
It's modular so you can mix and match different parts.

The odyssey g9 is 14kg without stand lol, so it may or may not work

    • No monitor arm supports this currently.
Even the ergotron HX doesnt. The tilt isnt strong enough
Some people have managed to jerry rig the tilt so it doesnt tilt, and then the arm supports the weight

But its too front heavy and even arms that support much over 15kg, the tilt mechanism isnt designed for a monitor this front heavy.

  • G9 had been recalled. Probably explains the lack of stock to hit our shores.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/hryn3o…

    • -1

      G9 has not been recalled.

      • Yes it has https://old.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/hryn3o…

And pulled from major retailers in the US and Canada. Might of been a bad batch, but we’ll never know because Samsung won’t say why. It might or might not effect AU release but you won’t know until they say as it’s only up for pre order in a couple of stores here now, pccasegear and mwave pulled it.

        • -1

People are receiving their pre-ordered G9 monitors daily. Nobody who owns G9 has been asked to return it. And Samsung claims there is no recall on G9.

But you claim there is a recall because someone has posted something on Reddit? Nice.
