    this Xmas Day in July!

There is no Xmas Day in July.

    You can't just change someone's birthday willy-nilly…

    • +7

Jesus wasn't born on December 25th

      • +3

        But Santa was

        • +3

The real St Nick (on whom Santa Claus is based), Saint Nicholas of Myra, was (by tradition) born 15 March 270…

      • Wasnt born at all

        • +1

Ditto my comment to Dex below

          • @Tuukmaak: Checked. Didnt understand it.

            • @ego22: I think what he's saying is pretty obvious. So many millions still believe Jesus existed two millennia later. You on the other hand will almost certainly have ceased to have ever existed within 100 years, as far as history is concerned…

    • -1

There was no birthday he didn’t exist

      • +1

Even fictional characters can have birthdays!
        18 November for Mickey Mouse😉

      • There was no birthday he didn’t exist

Donald Trump doesn't exist either, but people still believe in him.

      • +1

Let's see how the history books will remember you one generation from now….Dex who? Ouch!

  • are they as dry as the supermarket ones?

    • +5

What?! From my experience, the supermarket ones aren't dry at all.

Am I missing out on something? Are there roast chickens out there even more succulent and juicy?

      • +5

literally every chicken shop does better roast chicken than supermarkets

        • +2

I find supermarket ones too juicy…

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Because they come in those plastic carry bags that lock in all the steam. The skin goes all soft and wet. Not a fan of supermarket chicken, it was good back when they had foil paper bags. Either local roast chicken store or Red Rooster (even though these are more expensive).

            • +1

@Ghost47: It's also because the supermarket chickens are not charcoal cooked.
They are essentially just steamed in a gross oven.

              • +4

@Telios: I prefer mine from a tare oven.

                • +1

@Daabido: Not gonna lie, might have googled tare oven thinking it was a regional speciality…

        • Not every one. Some are just as dry. Im looking at you Chargrill Charliessss

      • +1

Supermarket ones just needs to be eaten immediately or quickly refrigeration or get worse and worse in my experience

        • I always refrigerate them immediately, sometimes after having some as soon as I get home.

I then re-heat portions, usually in the oven which crispens the skin nicely. I also don't mind zapping them in the microwave.

        • you can make wraps out of then and kill it with mayo. Im not fat but ill probably get there at some point

      • Maybe in July? (Dry July…)

  • In this In App only ? i.e you have to order via the app ?

  • Do you guys recommend Costco's chicken than Redrooster's? I had a better cooked chook at Costco, $6.99.

    • +2

      Costco chicken > all

      • +2

I recently had my first experience with Costco chicken and was impressed. Way more juicy than Colesworth chicken, which makes me wonder if they actually inject brine into the chook before roasting to achieve the juiciness…

        • +1

They inject all sorts of nasty stuff in Costco and Colesworth chickens

but if you like it and want to eat it, who's to stop you?

If you want to go to the trouble to make a whole chook at home, overnight salt brine is a good idea. If you're pressed for time, you can inject a salt brine right before cooking, you will need a marinade injector.

A decent instant read thermometer is a must. You want to get to a final temp of 165f/74c (temperature keeps rising a couple degrees after removing from oven)

          • @TEER3X: What do they inject in Costco, Woolworths and Coles chickens? Source?

            • @Phil22: 11 secret herbs and spices

            • @Phil22: https://www.mashed.com/157848/read-this-before-buying-costco…

There's a lot of stuff in there, not saying it's necessarily bad. Carrageenan gets a bad wrap… Phosphates keep meat juicy but excess consumption is definitely bad for you.

              • @TEER3X: Thanks for the insight. But think there are far worse things in other things we consume

                • @Phil22: No doubt

The 'advice' I posted was for people that avoid certain ingredients for whatever reason, but they probably already are aware of what's inside these chickens.

I prefer Red rooster over Costco, but both are delicious.

    • YES, and they lose money on every one they sell

  • +1

I've never tried this before, how do they compare with Coles and Woolworths? How much do they usually cost?

    • +7

Better in my experience, but I only buy when on $10 special like this.

  • +1

I like the Dirty Bird ie red rooter over Cole's or Woolies better tasting to me
    Plus drive-thru is convenient

  • My Mum never lets us eat fast food restaurant rotisserie chicken, I'm very curious to how they taste?

    • Drier than home cooked chicken, unless your mum also overcooks chicken like most parents. :)

      • This would explain why commenters above didn't think supermarket chickens are dry

  • The question is whether red rooster roast chicken really better than normal supermarket one?

    • +3

I’ve only had one. Compared to coles/woollies, it is better in taste, but smaller in size

  • +2

I luv me some Red Rooter every now and then. Great post OP. I'll grab 2 comes Chrissy.

  • +3

Red rooster have been good quality, no complaints

  • How do they compare with David Jones roast chicken (which are way better than colesworth) ?

  • +1

i'm ready to pull the trigger. chicken wraps day today!

  • There are other offers on their app that are good value too.
This one is especially good (works out cheaper even when allowing for $10 chicken): "Santa's Wholesome Roast" - 1 whole chicken, large peas, 4 corns, family chips, large gravy for $27.99

    • +1

That one is quite often, it’s like their normal menu, this $10 chicken is not. Also, don’t know about u, but there’s no way I’d value all those sides $17.99. The chicken is the better deal

  • +1

Buy the $6.99 from COSTCO, outstanding bang-4-buck

Plan your run and get it the moment it comes out piping hot of the oven

They are THE BEST value v quality on the planet, not a bad chook either

    • +1

I don't like them, my family shops there a lot and sometimes bring us some. The skin has no flavour, the meat is soggy and wet and there's always a weird gelatinous layer between the skin and the meat. It hasn't got any chicken flavour whatsoever and it feels like someone just injected it with heaps of water.

      • They are [just] under-cooked for mine, you can eat them as are, but i feel they are really sold to be reheated and finished in your home oven. [225/226]

Remove them from the superb sealed plastic container first [true story]

They are not sold in a cheap nasty plastic bag like Colesworths

The dogs are go crazy and luv them too :-)

    • +1

      Plan your run
Not an easy or cheap option for everyone!

70km return trip by car for me in central Brisbane.
Chicken will be cold by time I return & transport costs will make it more expensive.
Plus add the COSTCO membership cost!

Red Rooster is easy 5km return - it's even on my local bus route (free for me).

Used Loyalty points to reduce price - see below for $5 off - better price than $6.99!

If I'd gone to COSTCO I'd still be travelling instead of enjoying a cheaper tasty Red for lunch!

      • Yes, of course you need to be a member and have a COSTCO store not so far from where you live

In the "plan your run" i actually mean inside COSTCO, i don't like the ones sitting on the shelf, I want a factory-fresh cooked bird, i always see and watch the time-counter on the cooker do my shop so i can "plan my run" to be there when the new chooks are shelved :-)

Regardless of who is reselling them, i believe they are all Ingham Grown

        • Yes - same advice with all cooked products. Fresh is best.

Same. At supermarkets, the time cooking finishes is often visible on oven, or ask. I check before shopping. Staff usually have one ready when I return.

Just the $5 Red Roosters are a hard price to beat (with a new account)!

          • @INFIDEL: COSTCO will refund if you are not happy and satisfied, free bird!

            • @8200: Most stores have similar guarantee on their own products.
But staff won't offer refund to people asking every time!

Never been that disappointed to bother. Can't really take back a bag of bones😉

  • +1

    Bought in Brisbane
Staff member said offer is all weekend in store!
Email says only today - but that may be for delivery.

    • +1

As in other Red Rooster Deals, offers can vary by State.

    • Offer still shows in app today

      • Now removed for delivery. Check in store.

    • +1

rang store - staff member got it wrong.
      Not available today
      Back to $13

  • +1

Wow… I've never tried Red Rooster chicken honestly. Either bought the Colesworth chicken before closing time for bargain or splash my cash at the local rotisserie.

At this price point, I surely need to give it a try! Ready to break my red virgin rooster tonight!

      In-store only, though.

      • That's the Deal.
Sign up, go to store, $5 chook!
Receive $5 off your order when you spend more than $10 in the one transaction.

        • Did it work for you?

        • What I meant was that whilst the $10 chook deal is available for delivery (i.e. online ordered), according to the Terms & Conditions, the $5 Welcome voucher can only be used in-store (i.e. not online, no delivery).

          • @robinCTS: Yes those are the conditions on the $5 Welcome Deal.

Combining with this in-store, or delivered Deal means you can't use it for delivered.

$5 off $10 chicken only available in-store. Was passing local store, so paid $5.

            Can't understand your confusion.

            • @INFIDEL: No confusion on my part 😉.

Your original post in this thread said:

              Whole Roast Chicken $10 $5!
$5 Welcome Voucher for Joining Red Rooster's Red Royalty

with no specific, direct mention that the $5 price had different conditions to the $10 price. For the benefit of other users, I tried to explicitly point out (unfortunately indirectly and thus possibly not very clearly) that the $5 price excluded the delivery option available for the $10 price.

Your reply to my reply said:

              That's the Deal.
Sign up, go to store, $5 chook!

Due to caching/refresh issues, your previous comment:

              @IsiTfree: Yes - instore

hadn't shown up yet and I inferred (arguably reasonably) that the "Deal" with a capital D that you were referring to was the originally posted deal and that it excluded delivery, instead of the $5 "deal" that you posted in your comment and in which you didn't explicitly, directly mention the in-store only condition. (Obviously, if your read through the largish Terms & Conditions you would find that out.)

In my second comment, I tried to explain (obviously unsuccessfully 😉) what I've hopefully achieved in this comment.

  • Any deals on the chips/fries, now that is the Gold Standard for fast food

  • Local store didnt have a clue promotion was running

  • thanks OP, having this for dinner tonight, the donation to Foodbank is a nice bonus

  • Bought a whole chicken today after seeing this deal, should’ve have bothered. Chicken salty & dry. When I went to serve it noticed it looked dry and the skin poorly. It sure was , wasted a lot as it was dry to the bone. I work in retail and we sell cooked chickens , these are well better than the Red Rooster one we bought today. Waste of time & money , I was so looking forward to trying Red Rooster though

  • +1

Im confused as I got home from RR store.

2 chickens for $10? or suppose to be 1 for $10.00?

I checked my transaction payment on my mobile phone where I tapped and paid, still $10.00.

Got it from Preston / VIC at 5pm ish.

Could be human error at RR store.

    • Try again tomorrow and see what happens

      • One roasted chicken is enough for this weekend. Thank you.

  • Keep getting this when try to order "Oops! We could not momentarily contact the store. Please try again in a minute or two!"

  • -7

    Nothing cheap about this
$10 is the every day price at Coles and Woolworths

    • +2

But you ain’t getting Coles or Woolworths chicken, you’re getting Red Rooster chicken.
      Red Rooster > Coles/Woolworths
