Perhaps he/she is related to Will I am?

        The i am family…

Is she/he the head of the family, the Big I Am?

      • Imo Its from Tropic thunder when RDownyJnr explains "I know Who i am, I'm a dude playing a dude, disguised as another dude"

This tool is good for assembling IKEA furniture. It makes the whole process much quicker.

    • Agree.
I have this from bunnings https://www.bunnings.com.au/xu1-3-6v-li-ion-cordless-screwdr…

      Great value at $19
Just need to remember to charge it day before as its nimh battery

      • +3

I had this, completely useless, chucked this ages ago

        • I agree. Totally useless. Every time I want to use it the battery is flat. So I charge it. Meanwhile I manage to assemble ikea stuff manually. Then I'd store the XU1 away only to find it flat and useless the next time I need to assemble something. So I charge it. Meanwhile I manage to assemble ikea stuff manually… One day I'll put it in the bin.

          • +1

@polstralian: from experience every time I went to use it after charging for a whole day to screw stuff that needs more force than manual. it just goes flat in less than 10seconds. Can't believe this Bunnings sells this POS, gives them a bad rep is all that does

      • +1

But the link says Lithium Ion?

        • I meant my cheapo xu1

    • So does liquid nails.

    • I still use the Black & Decker Gyro screwdriver that was here on OzB many years again - discontinued but great product for IKEA purposes!

  • +4

I have one of these, can recommend. Have saved so much time and energy assembling or taking apart things.

Battery life is good too, I've only had to charge mine once in the year.

    • Yep, I've got an older gen one from a few years ago. Still going strong, use it all the time. Super handy around the home, for furniture, PC builds, whatever.

  • +1

Mine is many years old now, Lithium battery still going string. Came with a cradle that the screwdriver sat in and charged, holds bits too. Much better, IMHO, than just a cable they offer these days for cost saving. Main point - frequently used, frequently charged, still going strong many years later. Probably my most used power tool.

    • yeah the dock version was the best!

    • you reckon this is worth it.

How powerful is it for installing screws in wooden doors?

      • +2

If you're driving self-tappers into wood you'd be better off using a drill-driver.

        • +1

nah the hole already drilled but screwing the screw into the hole

          • @[Deactivated]: I agree with Cordova above, however I've used my cordless screwdriver to install (screw in) one of those door stoppers in my wooden door and it did it perfectly.

  • +3

I've got this, I don't rate it well, no speed control, easily strips screw heads.

this is also the basic set, not the full set which was the same price previously.

    • Thanks

    • You can get an attachment that allows you to adjust the torque.

      • I bought that attachment on ebay, still feel the torque is too strong even on lowest setting. That or I'm using it wrong..

  • This is its full version..
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07J3Q65XN/ref=emc_b_5_t

i will prob wait for that to be on deal..

  • I have the one with the dock and love it. As mentioned, awesome for Ikea jobs and the like. I never charge mine either.

  • How is the torque on these things?

  • +1

How does this compare to the Bosch GO? $65 on Amazon.

Or the Makita DF001DW, which is $75.

    • +1

The push to activate on the GO is really badly implemented. I hated it.

    • I have had the Makita for over a year now and can recommend it. Great for those smaller fiddly jobs where a full size drill is too large.

It has enough power to easily drive in pocket hole screws etc.

  • Still think ones with onboard bit changers are far more convenient. Can switch from say hex to phillips easily then back again for then next step in the IKEA instructions without having to muck around with the bits or other holders.
I went from an older model of these IXO's to the Worx one a while back and found it far more convenient.

    • Can you recommend any?

This one from amazon?: WORX WX255L SD Semi-Automatic Power Screw Driver with Screw Holder

      • Yeah that's the type I have. It's probably had some minor upgrades since then, but the base device looks exactly the same. Mine didn't come with the screw holder arm thing.

My one came with 2 cartridges (6 bits each). The one I leave sitting in the tool I set up to have:
        - Hex
        - PH2
        - PH1
        - PZ2
        - Flathead (the larger one from memory)
        - screw starter/drill bit

I can pretty much just grab and go with it for most tasks.

  • Might as well buy a drill to be honest….. https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-home-12v-drill-driver-kit_…

    • Unfortunatly, too many people don't know how to use a drill when assembling furniture (i do as I've built 100s). :)

    • +1

Different use case. If you're doing electronics assembly, a drill risks destroying stuff, an electric screwdriver shouldn't have the power to do that.

    • +2

It's all about the size and weight. These cordless screwdrivers are magical when space gets tight.

  • +3

For those not bothered by the brand, ALDI will be selling something similar for half the price soon.

I'm currently using the Ryobi cordless screwdriver, got it on clearance thought I wouldn't use it much, but it has been one of the most used tools.

  • +1

I have it from a five year old OzBargain deal. Came with a tiny circular saw that I have no idea how to use and the instructions don't help.
The torque on it is pretty powerful and because there is no torque settings it twists hard in your hand and can cause damage especially on chipboard. I think an Ozito drill with variable speed and torque settings, which is the same price, would be much more useful.

    • +1

it twists hard in your hand and can cause damage

      Very valid point.

I don't think people should just hold the button down and look away from what they're screwing. As you get closer to the end you should just manually twist it with the cordless screwdriver.

      • +1

Sorta defeats the purpose if you have to slow down and then do it manually. Much easier to use one with variable torque and just drill it all the way without having to worry. If you're not careful, especially on chipboard, you've just destroyed that hole and you need to get the matches out to repair the hole so the screw takes.

  • I have this. For some reason I have always read this as OXI

  • +4

I think this looks better, it has a little caddy and a place to put the bits. Still lithium ion though, and $15 cheaper, and a torque setting.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-3-6v-screwdriver-torch-wit…

    • Great alternative. Bosch brand sounds posh and it is German design.

  • Ive got the Skil one from Total tools. im impressed with it. Has a rotatable handle. Very powerful too.

    https://www.totaltools.com.au/147166-skil-4v-screwdriver-sd5…

  • +1

For the convenience of a light and the drill bits all being kept inside a chamber, this one looks to be more suitable for my needs.

    • This 'Russian Roulette' version looks cool.
For some reason, it reminds me Russian roulette when I saw this.

      • Yes, the tommy gun approach was definitely more to my liking :-)

  • Any thoughts on one of these? Are they comparable with the ryobi? Will use it more for electronics and occasional ikea assembly.

  • I learned my lesson after my second Bosch cordless driver died for no apparent reason. Can't recommend but YMMV.

  • Which 1 is good when comparing between this Bosch and CACOOP ?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07DN6XB9K

  • Have 2 of these. They've lasted almost 5 years. Battery life still good. They are great.

  • Ikea has one as well.

  • Could anyone suggest if this screwdrivre can be used (in rear circumstance) as a drill onto the plywood?

    • +1

yeah, I would say into wood wouldn't be an issue.

but doesn't have a chuck, need drill bits with hex shafts.

  • What's the difference between this and getting an impact driver? Impact driver would be better?
