$295 is a new low surely but plus shipping….

    • +1

I think so. Shipping doesn't seem unreasonable at $9.95 for Sydney (obviously YMMV depending on where one lives).

  • That is REALLY cheap…

  • Damn.. wish it was M2 form factor for my Dell G7.. lol.

    • If you're happy with 1TB, there seems to be a few other decent NVMe m.2 deals floating around (eg Kingston A2000 which isn't even QLC!).

  • A single 2tb or 2x 1tb in Raid 0 for a game drive?

    • +6

I don’t see the advantage of Raid0 with SSDs

      • I agree. It does have the added bonus of doubling the risk of failure though! That's always a good one if you like living life on the edge

        • Not risk averse, Risk loving!

        • Been Running 2x 1TB 860 EVO's in RAID0 for over 2 years now as one of my Steam drives - no issues yet!

    • +1

      I will go for 2x 1tb.

    • +2

Depends if you have the space (and ports/power).

For me, my case is already pretty crowded so I'd be going for the larger drives.

      • I got tons of space in the case (011D XL), ports and power. But I need to retire the 2x smaller sata ssd's with something that will hold all my games.

        Way too many drive letters @ 2x nvme (1 boot, 1 game), 2x HDD, 2x SSD (256 & 512, both game).

    • +4

A single 2TB drive is better. The RAID 0 from your motherboard is limited and it is difficult to move RAID across machines later on. Also, with RAID 0, you are doubling the risk of failure in exchange for potentially some sequential read/write gain which still pales in comparison to NVMe SSDs - not to mention sequential read/write doesn't really matter in games (at least not currently).

Do you really trust your RAID 0 (which is probably software based RAID)?

    • +2

Don't do raid 0 on SSD. When the SSD fails, the other will soon follow quickly. Also, having to manage raid 0 as a whole is painful.

    • I run 2 x 1TB in RAID 0 for my game drive, just purely because a 2TB unit is easier to deal with and I don't really care much about drive failure (just have to re-download stuff).

I'd rather have 1 x 2TB drive though, less cabling, less space, more convenient…etc.

  • Stellar deal! Thanks!

  • +1

Looks like there is a 1% surcharge too? - Paypal or Credit Card

    • I have to admit I didn't progress all the way to payment but I understand they offer EFT/bank deposit though which should be fee free (can anyone else confirm?).

      • +1

Yep… looks to be free for deposit.
But 1% might be worth it for Paypal.

Great price. I paid a total of $328.20 on 14th July 2020 that includes $9.95 shipping and 1% surcharge ($3.25 for me). The drive itself was $315 in their previous promotion.

  • Shopping Express have like 5 deals a day lol.

  • +1

    $310.06 delivered for me.
    (versus 312.53 delivered via Amazon)

I've heard a few bad things about Shopping Express Warranty/Returns.
Has anyone had a good experience with them to balance it out?

    • I'd be cheaper on Amazon if you paid by gift cards.

  • Thanks. Jumped on the earlier 1TB Kingston M2 order but actually SATA works better for me.

  • I wish 860 EVO can have the deal like this…

    • +3

      You saved $310.

      • well 860 evo was reaching $159 1tb/ & $157/tb for 4tb…860 evo seems to have a better performance than MX500

        • +3

I was under the impression from reading reviews (when I was cross shopping the two) that there was barely any difference between the two drives from an end user perspective. That being said, I do happen to have an 860 Evo and an MX500 in my system and do not notice any difference between the two other than the software from the respective manufacturers. Samsung does have a simpler drive migration tool IMO though.

          • @jace88: from 4k random read speed to speed drop control…

            • +2

@johangules: Don’t get me wrong here though, if you have a specific use case which benefits from the specification or performance advantage then by all means go for it. But for an average consumer use case whether it be a steam library or even a boot drive in an older machine, the two aren’t so different that you’d pay a huge premium for one over the other.

            • +1

@johangules: If you must get the best 4K random read SATA3 SSD right now because the benchmark software figures or the review bar graphs, then sure go for Samsung 860 EVO.

However, realistically, if I really care about 4K random performance, I would just use a NVMe SSD. And, that's because I cannot afford an Intel 3D XPoint SSD.

At the end of day, the Samsung controller for SATA3 SSD is slightly better and their SLC cache tech is slightly better, but when you look at sustained write, you feel the actual TLC flash chips, Crucial MX500 could be performing better. SLC cache is dominating benchmark results so much so that 860 EVO is beating 860 Pro in most benchmark results, except sustained write. Basically, even though MLC is good, it cannot beat SLC cache and newer controller and better optimised SLC cache does have a clear advantage, at least in most benchmark software - since the SSD makers are smart enough to ensure the SLC cache is large enough so the benchmark apps don't run into the real TLC part.

        • +1

It's kinda a toss up. You wouldn't want to pay extra for 860 Evo over MX500 since deep down you/we know that the difference is minor. How many of us actually pushed SATA3 SSDs to their limit so they feel slow? You can argue it either way. MX500 has slightly better sustained write and in mixed I/O, it can slightly beat 860 Evo. Not to mention that it was MX500 forcing Samsung to respond with 860 Evo (and follow with 5 year warranty).

  • Great buy! very cheap.

  • Ordered… $310.06 delivered.
    Thanks OP!

Shipping Notification from Australia Post already.
      They move pretty fast.

  • well, i can wait til next year

What’s the deal with so many ssd deals lately?!

  • DAMMIT GET PAID IN 2 DAYS WHY!

    • +2

you maybe lucky they may still have stock then, sale ends in 4 days

  • Great price but 2TB is overkill for me. Just want myself a 1TB drive deal and I'll be happy.

  • +1

What I really like about shopping express is their shipping & packing. Although they charge for shipping, they ship really fast and they pack very well for protection. Unlike Centre.com "free shipping" with crappy packing.

    • +2

Can't say I had the same experience.

Just received my motherboard - They shoved my motherboard into a large box that is twice the size it needs to be and didn't secure it at all so it just bounced around all the way here.

      Centrecom packed my SSD well.

      • +1

My Centrecom SSD arrived in a very thickly padded envelope and sealed with a security tape. No complaints from here.

        • +2

My motherboard poorly packaged from Shopping express, where as my centre com ssd was well packaged. Should have made that clearer

well I went to their warehouse/store behind Nick futniture in alexandria today. I was shocked by their service. Seems that we'll have to pay the shipping and surcharge since they reject any instore pickup. The staff there are mostly chinese and the chinese manager was a bit rude, threatening me that if i didnt leave he would call the police.

    • +3

Did they ask you to come to their warehouse or pick up from their warehouse? It's not a retail storefront so I'm not sure what you were expecting.

      • -4

i live 30 mins walk from there and i thought the surcharge and shippinh cost is kinda upfair for this. It's not only one buyer here complaining about their shipping cost. Their manager admitted that sometimes they do offer pickup

  • OOS now.

    • Thanks, updated. Pity because I was going to recommend it to people looking at the BX500 for marginally less at $275 from Amazon.

      • NP. Was hoping to get a second one for my dad building his own PC, but when I came back today, it was gone!

        • At least now we have a new idea on what a 'low' price is in this current climate… fingers crossed something comes up for your dad!

          • +1

@jace88: Thanks! Yeah this deal was amazing for both the deal itself and to gauge if future deals are "worth it". Thanks for posting this.
