    selling:

    nikon s9100 - $299
    nikon aw100 - 350

don't need it pm or contact me at [email protected]

    • The wrong place to sell yours

  • Looks like HN have removed the website listings for most of the digital compact cameras? Can't ask the stores to price-match the cheaper online prices now :/

Eg. Ixus 220 HS was $249 online price, but now the camera isn't even listed online, so the stores can charge $300 (or higher sticker price) if they so wish. Dodgey Harvey Norman is back again!

    • +1

While this camera is still showing online (s9100), instore price is $449 and online price is $391. They argued the price with some lame story before checking the online price and saying OK to $391.

      • I bought it for $449 at Harvey Norman Fyshwick and I just realised that the real price is $391. Can I complain and get my $60 back? for false advertisement

        • +1

I think Harvey Norman has a 'best price guarantee' within 7 days of purchase, so I think you could go back and ask them to price match their online price- bring a print out too.

    • +1

When I went, the guy scanned the camera and I think the computer showed the online price cause he double checked the price tag and asked me if it was $X (online price), even though the display price was much higher. I had a print out of the online price, but didnt need to show or mention it to him.

  • Hi all :)

For all the Nikon fans out here I've a spare Nikon P7100 (it's similar to the Canon G12).

If you're interested please send me a PM or email me at hwyny[at]hotmail[dot]com

I'm in western Sydney. Pick up only.

  • Got the last 2 Olympus XZ-1s at Everton Park. One was a demo, one was a brand new in box… But the brand new one was missing manuals, whereas the demo had all its books….

Apparently Aspley still has stock (according to the salesman)…

And before anyone asks, both have been accounted for. Sorry.

Have been testing out my SX230 today and so far liking it. I love my D7000 much more :). What I like about the SX230 is its portability and zoom lens. Its slow motion video is fun but gimmicky. The HD video at 24fpm is better than my D7000. I prefer its manual control over the Nikon s9100 and Hx9v. Its noise reduction is observable but better than the S9100 and HX9V. The battery does not last long but you can get an OEM for $5. I will purchased a few to go in my bag. For $196 this camera is a bargain.

    • Hi donkeykong, please advise on where can we get an OEM for $5, thanks

      • I am heading to America. I get them from Amazon.

  • Anyone interested in a Fuji Finepix F550 with 3 year warranty in Sydney. ($270)

    Thanks

After spending some time with the XZ-1, I gotta say I'm really impressed by the image quality. Shooting JPG is okay but the RAW image quality is something else. The image quality and bokeh is DSLR-like when shooting in RAW (whereas details get smeared when shooting in JPG). If it isn't the best compact camera in terms of image quality then it's gotta be wayyy up there. I hope all you XZ-1 owners are happy with your purchase. It's a steal at $250.

The HX9V kills it for video though. And the annoying thing about the XZ-1 is that the file sizes for the videos are way too big so your SD card will fill up very quickly whereas you can record for a lot longer with the HX9V. In 1080p 50fps on less.

And with the HX9V, if you resize the 16mp pics to 10mp then everything's sweet. They're both great cameras to own. The XZ-1 rewards your patience and effort whereas the HX9V does most of the thinking for you.

    • +3

Mate, at the price we're paying for the XZ-1, HX9V and the G12 (which is what I got), provided you've split the cost with someone else, they are all absolute steals…for $250 (or in my case, $350 minus whatever GST I can claim back), we're all getting a serious bit of kit. The G12 is definitely more than serviceable as a backup camera to my 7D…hope everyone is enjoying their new cameras as much as I am..:) And I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but thanks Gerry for allowing us to buy your cameras at half-price (essentially)..

      • +1

Yeah it's gotta be the first time I'm over the moon after purchasing something from HN :P

I would've loved the G12 if it was a little more pocketable. I love the tilt-swivel LCD and all the buttons and dials. More cameras should be like that. Plus it's so tough, you can use it as a weapon in an emergency.

        • Agreed, it could be a bit smaller, but build quality is like a tank…

      • +2

So the G12 is the backup camera for your 7D, the XZ-1 for your G12, and the HX9V for the XZ-1 :)?

        • Haha, yeah, I wish…:) you may be made of money, but not me, sadly…but seriously, having my 7D mysteriously dying (and currently getting fixed, hopefully the damage isn't too bad..) have made me realise that I really do need a backup, and the G12 more than fits the bill..

        • Totally agreed on the backup, you gotta have one for the most part. You don't wanna be on a paid gig or a once in a lifetime holiday and your only camera dies on you.

        • +2

Yeah, I know…I was initially kicking myself for not keeping my 450D (sold it to fund the 7D), but now, with the G12, I have something that isn't losing too much in quality, is infinitely more compact, and something that isn't too intimidating for my wife to use..
Btw, for all those who missed out on a G12 in Perth, there is an unfortunate reason for that…there is now 5 "brand new" G12's which are "unwanted gifts" being listed on Gumtree…

        • +4

I went halves with a fellow OzBargainer for my G12 in Perth! :D Shame on all those who found the deal on OzBargain and are now trying to make a profit from it via Gumtree etc. when there are plenty of people here looking for certain cameras :/

        • +1

Seriously how much they are earning by doing this? 400 - 32 (8% ebay final charges) = 368. Maybe 10 bucks from the postage. So much hazzle to earn 20-30 bucks?
The day before the sales I couldn't find many listed G12 on ebay. The number of hits rocketed after the thursday evening.

        • +1

Henceforth the use of Gumtree, with no fees involved, and cash too. The cheapest listed there (in Perth anyways) is $430, which is still reasonable for a brand new G12. It's the idiots who lists their price at nearly $500 that gets to me, considering that you can buy it online for about $480 delivered through DWI, Camera Paradise etc…hope no one buys it off them and they are stuck with 2 G12's, but that's unlikely to happen, given the popularity of the camera..

  • Bondi Junction is offering them half price if you find the right salesperson. One said no to me, another said yes, just ask around…I bought one Sony TX10 for 218.50, at first they tried to charge the full price but I mentioned the online price, and they fixed it all up. Not much stock left however…

  • Hi,
Looking to buy a G12, anyone got one for sale? I'm in Brisbane.
    PM me. Thanks.

  • +3

I believe HN should restrict one camera per person at reduced price. It will be a win win situation. That way they get more customers in and secondly reduced these profiteer ebaying them out.

    • +1

I agree, why not just 50% off all cameras instead of this? Double customers = double chances to upsell something, and at those prices the stuff would still fly out the door!

  • Hi I am looking for a g12 in Sydney , if anyone have a spare one to sell call me 0422111697

  • Thank you OP!!

  • I got the HX9V and the FX3dW3 with a friend and couldn't be happier, especially since i got the FX3DW3 for $49.50 (after the split) when just a couple of few weeks ago it was listed as $599! Put all that with the 32GB class 10 SD card i got from ebay for $30 and you have one very happy man :P thank you OP !

    • Have you received that 32GB SD class 10 card you bought from eBay? If so, could you please test it and confirm capacity/speed? Thanks.

    • i havn't got it yet but when i do i will put up the speed and capacity with the username of the ebay seller i got it from

  • they only sell floor stock.. so whats sold is sold.. I even tried to haggle them if I can have 1 now and get the other next month, they said no.

On Friday, in Alexandria, they had 1xG12($690) & 1xG11 ($630), so they were willing to give me both for about $670.. but i said no.. waste of time, who's gonna buy a G11..

I saw on ebay, u can get a new G12 for about $400+postage..

    • +1

Am interested in g12 or hx9v. I'm in Brisbane

  • I believe the canon G13 may be announced in November or their 4/3 model to compete with the like of Nikon and Sony.

    • With Nikon bringing out their micro 4/3rds model, I can't imagine that it will be long before Canon releases theirs..

      • I love how a lot of us don't really think of the actual companies that make up the Micro 4/3 consortium (Olympus and Panasonic) when looking at mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and we just think that any mmirrorless interchangeable lens camera is automatically Micro 4/3. I own a bunch of Micro 4/3 gear and for me, they strike the right balance between quality and portability but Panasonic and Olympus are doing a poor job getting their products out there and marketing it.

I love how quickly Nikon got theirs out there after announcing it. I already saw some ads for the J1 on the Dick Smith catalogue although it's overpriced for what you get in my opinion (was $1000ish on the catalogue with the kit zoom). I'm sure the price will drop though after a bit of time and it'll be cheaper if you buy online or overseas. I'm looking forward to what Canon has in store but if Sony can figure out how to make much smaller lenses, I'll probably switch to the NEX system.

        • I was about to buy the Nex-5n or the upcoming Nex-7 but the lack of good lens maked me think twice.

        • Yeah it's a shame because it seems like they have the best bodies. Their lens lineup isn't quite there yet but I think they'll get there eventually. They should back the money truck up to the Panasonic lens designers and get them to make some nice lenses for the NEX.

        • 100% agree with you guys. I'd love to try out a NEX-5N with that great sensor, but I've got the lovely Panasonic f1.7 20mm pancake and I've heard the Sony F2.8mm pancake doesn't even come close. Here's hoping that the upcoming 50mm f1.8 lens is any good: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/818649-REG/Sony_SEL50F…

        • I've briefly shot with the 16mm f/2.8 from Sony and in my opinion, it's nothing to write home about. Meanwhile, the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 continues to impress me even though I've shot a few thousand pics with it already. Sony needs something similar to that lens in terms of size and performance. I'm interested in the Carl Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 for the NEX since it's close to the 20mm pancake in terms of field of view and aperture but it's not a pancake and it's more expensive.

      • Nope, Nikon is pushing in their CX sensor line with the 1 System cameras:

        http://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikon1system/

        Yay, yet more standards!

        • It's kinda silly how big their lenses are considering how small the sensor is. Surely they can make smaller lenses. Hopefully future lens releases are much smaller. Panasonic is killing it when it comes to small lenses, the size of the 14-42mm X lens is crazy. Still, the Nikon sensor should work well when used with C-mount lenses so I'm looking forward to picking up a Nkon body one their prices drop or even second hand. I've gotten a few C-mount lenses and most vignette on Micro 4/3.

  • hey guys been searching for a sony HX9V since Thurs no luck as yet. If anybody in melbourne is keen on selling one contact me at 6949053(at)swin . edu . au cheers

  • +1

A quick tip for those looking to shoot some macro photography with the HX9V, set your zoom to approx. 2.5x which is the sweet spot for the lens and it lets you get real close to your subject. Too bad Sony doesn't have an actual macro setting (like the awesome super macro setting on the XZ-1) or maybe it does and I just haven't been able to find it. But I've been getting some good results doing that on the HX9V.

  • Got the Olympus XZ-1 and Panasonic DMC-FT3 for $499 at HN Indooroopilly, Brisbane. The XZ-1 was out of stock but they put an order to ship one in for me. Very happy, a real bargain!

        • It's my parents who are going actually but yeah, I'll let you know. Hopefully this Qantas thing doesn't screw up their plans too much.

        • thats customer service…sadly we dont get that much these days. esp during such quickfire sales

        • Yes that was me with receipt to prove it! When I arrived the camera counter was very busy, so I spoke to one of the sales staff in the computer section. He put the order through for me, but the lady at checkout mentioned she'll have a chat with him afterwards… I'm guessing to clear up the terms of the deal etc.

    Thanks

  • For those who are still looking for Cameras in Melbourne you can try the HN in Cranbourne. I went to the Dandenong store first but their display cabinet was practically empty. I tried Cranbourne and they still had cameras in their display cabinet. I can't remember the particular models but I saw alot of canon's. nikons etc in their cabinet. I remember seeing a Sony 14.1 megapixel one too. The lady said the Cranbourne store is quite small so that's why they still have stock left. I ended up buying the Panasonic Lumix 14 megapixel cameras. Really wanted the 16.1 but at this stage since the sale had been going on for a while I can't really expect much so I'm happy with these 2 cameras for $151.

  • I have a Canon G12 in Perth if anybody wants one.

  • Got two Nikon S9100 cameras. Dahm you harvey norman. So many good deals.

    • How much did you pay?

  • A little tip to those who got the XZ-1 or the S95, do a search for "Franiec custom grip". Not that those cameras are hard to hold but the grip will make your camera much easier/nicer to use.

  • cross fingers anyone in Melbourne got a tx10 to spare ?
Please let me know :/ muncheater[at]hotmail[dot]com

  • Guys, just checked my credit card statement online following my purchase of this deal and it appears that I have been charged an AMEX international transaction fee. Does anyone know what the hell this is about? The purchase was obviously in Aussie dollars so I don't understand. Can anyone else that paid with an AMEX confirm that also got charged?

    • My CBA-issued AMEX seems to have charged me an international transaction fee for my HN purchase too…as well as a purchase from Coles in the same day (?!)

    • That sucks..I paid with my Westpac-issued AMEX card, no signs of the international transaction fee here. Is it something to bring up with HN or your card-issuer?

    • I also have a CBA issued AMEX.

I have brought it up with the franchisee at the Harvey Norman I purchased my camera. His initial response is below:

'We do not charge any surcharge fees for any Visa, Mastercard, Amex or Diners. This may be a simple mistake by Amex. If you could give me your phone number so I can locate your invoice and payment slip, I can then verify this for you. If there are any concerns there I will notify our banking department immediately.'

Will let you know what he comes back with.

    • interesting… me too, for a few purchases around the same time. mine's a cba card, and that seems to be the common link so far.

edit: just rang CBA, they said it's a known issue with the AMEX cards. ETA for resolution hopefully tonight. once resolved those fees should be reversed.

      • The bank got back to me saying that the fees should've been fixed up overnight, and my account shows a credit for each of the fee amounts.
