Long time, no poster!

I am aware that this isn't as low as the Amazon price ("Grey Import" at $544.85) but it's local stock and comes with a pair of earphones as standard!

It was just added on their website this morning and is a bit cheaper than JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Google etc. The phone has great feedback/reviews!

Specs worth noting: Snapdragon 730G chip, 5.8" OLED display, 12.2 MP HDR+ rear cam, 8 MP front cam, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB internal storage, Android 10 (11 soon), Bluetooth 5.1 (AptX support), 3.5mm headphone jack, 3140 mAh battery, 2 year warranty.

Officeworks are advertising 10th of September as the availability date, which is a slightly shorter waiting time than at some other stores.

      Last I checked the RRP was AU$599. This deal is also trusted local stock with free delivery. Not to mention that you would receive your device earlier as the first shipments from JB/Harvey's have sold through. Potentially $12 in savings here, a true OzBargainer wouldn't turn their nose at such a deal.

    Got my pixel 3 XL for $750 (half price) then claimed price drop for $588 when Harvey Norman was selling.
    Probably better phones around than the 4A for that price

      Performance is slightly better or on par according to the reviews as Pixel 3 xl is two generations old. The rest will be the same except that ugly notch!

        Oh right, at the time I remember the 3A's were a bit watered down especially the camera and few other things.
        The 4a still be alright no doubt (notch is cool lol).

          The Pixel 5 isn't out yet, but they've announced that it and the 4a 5G are coming. Google's lineup is weird this year, all rumours point to the 5 being somewhat gimped spec-wise (also no 5XL model). They've also EOL'd the 4 and 4XL s so you might have trouble buying one.

            Good thing about buying from the Google store is the 2y warranty, got an upgrade replacement once from the nexus6 days to a Pixel.

        Rumour pricing is $699 USD for the p5 and $499 USD for the p4a 5g.

          -Water resistance certification
          -Neural Core hardware for better photo processing
          -Wireless charging 15W and reverse wirless charging 5W
          -Higher quality build
          -8GB RAM vs 6GB RAM in 4a 5G
          -90Hz refresh rate
          -Possible unique software abilities

          With the 4a 5G $200 AUD over the 4a, I guess the 5 will be $200 AUD over the 4a 5G at $999 AUD for base storage (probably 128GB).

        I reckon wait a few months to see what all 3 models offer, and by that time there may be some xmas sales to help save some cash.

        Personally I'm going to be waiting for the Pixel 5, as the 4a5G is too big for me, and the 4a is using a SD730 instead of the SD765G. Plus I'd appreciate the wireless charging, water resistance and 8GB RAM a lot more.

            @zan5hin: Took 2.5 months for s10 to get android 10. Not sure what you are talking about? The latest security update was 3 weeks. That and nearly every feature android introduces is already in samsung from 5 years ago anyway, so in those 2.5 months, you aren't really missing anything at all.

      I also have an s10e and will stick with it for now.
      My intention was to sell the s10e and get a 4a instead of buying a separate point and shoot camera for photos. However the features on the 4a were not exciting enough to replace the Samsung. I'll see what the Pixel 5 will be like.

          Show me a phone with image quality that competes with the likes of Sony Rx series. Don't get me wrong, phones are very close but I think they need at least one more generation to get there. I was hoping the 4a was going to be it but it seems worse than the 4. Maybe the 5 will be better.

            @klonky: I actually think the opposite. RX series needs a few generations to catch up to smartphones now. Some of the latest Chinese phones have nearly one inch sensors. The sensors in the latest Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi flagships are 75-80% the size of the RX series. On top of that, they now have really sharp ultra wide lenses, which the RX series is getting…. never. Dynamic range from a recent smartphone will slaughter any of the RX series, which will have blown highlights or invisible shadows in nearly every shot, and some phones will have more reliable and pleasant colour. Quite a few reviewers have compared them recently, and the RX100 VI or VII lags behind in nearly every category.

            @klonky: There's an old saying in photography, the best camera is the one you have on you.
            I've got Sony Alpha 6000 and my 3a takes better pictures in most situations. Maybe not low light, maybe not zoom, but I very rarely need that.

        Rumours are that the Pixel 5 will have a 4000mAh battery, and hopefully better battery optimisation. Change your network settings to 4G only (if you dont have a 5G connection), and turn off 90hz refresh for longer battery life. Personally I dont care about the 5G or refresh rate, so Im fine turning them off for better battery life anyway.

      the s10e's a great phone and very similar to the 4a, i doubt it'd be an "upgrade" per se. the instantaneous software updates are nice but you'd cop a downgrade on processor speed and you'd lose your SD slot. camera experience would be about the same. can't go wrong with gsmarena to help you with your homework:

    I got the Poco f2 pro, the specs destroy the pixel 4a for the same price and then use the gcam APK to get the same camera apps as the pixel.

        Actually the change from unlimited original quality to high quality started from 3a onwards

        Been hoping that Google may revert back to offering unlimited in a future pixel release - but probably unlikely it seems

        Am I silly for considering to upgrade from my Pixel 2 to Pixel 3 to hang onto unlimited OQ backups (at least until 2022), rather than jump to 4a or even 5 ?

      I've had my pixel die twice in two years. I'd only ever buy a pixel from a brick and mortar store, especially where the price is the same. Much easier to get warranty sorted.

        Actually, Google Store offer great warranty service. After lodging your issue, they send out a replacement unit within a few days. When it arrives, you post your faulty device back to them. All postage costs included. So unless your device is dead, you don't have to spend long period of time without your phone.

        Some people have reported getting free upgrade to a newer generation device because Google ran out of replacement for the same model.

        Now that Google Store price matches local suppliers, there are less reason to buy from anyone else.

          In my experience, I bought an iPhone 6s from local Officeworks as a gift for my mom, but that was like 3 months prior giving to my mom, then little did I know iPhone 6s was part of the Apple recall list, https://support.apple.com/en-au/iphone-6s-6s-plus-no-power-i…, and yes, when I gave it to my mom, it didn't power on. Rather than going back to Apple to get it fixed, which I will end up with refurb unit, I went back to Officeworks and explained the situation, and they were kind enough to get it replaced one to one, with brand new in box, on the spot! No hassles with calling support and wait for replacement.

      This will have a smaller SoC so less heat generated, it will also give you at least 3 years of future OS updates, and will also have battery optimisations to help with SoT, not to mention the future updates will have some great new features that may not be ever back ported to a Pixel 2. This will also have an updated Titan security chip.

    If you need a warranty return (like I have) your life will be much easier if you buy from the Google Store. After some basic troubleshooting they will send you a new device (I received in 2 days) and you don't need to return your old one until after you receive it.

      even if you purchase via jbhifi, the google store will accept you dealing with them directly. I bought my pixel 3xl from jbhifi but ended up dealing with google directly for my warranty return.

      They did however, expected me to ship my phone in first before sending in a replacement which I told them I wasn't going to do so they shipped me a replacement phone first as "goodwill". They also sent the wrong colour, and took weeks to rectify. Honestly their support isn't that much better.
