  • conditionally approved, then got an email asking for:

A recent payslip that shows your last 3 months' worth of income

have been back on normal pay for the last couple fortnights (75k), but was on jobkeeper for a bit before that….

wasn't expecting them to ask for 3 months worth of payslips, usually just the last 2 payslips

hopefully being on jobkeeper before isn't going to be an issue now

    • In the same boat.. Was your application successful?

      • +1

        hey mate

I only sent 2 payslips (1 fortnight per payslip for me)

gave them a ring and approved in 2 minutes

it was a relief that they were happy with 2 payslips, i think they just wanted to confirm my income stated, and that way i could give payslips that were at full pay, not the jobkeeper ones

give them a ring and ask if you are not sure, the guy i spoke to was pretty helpful and specifically told me if i only have 1 payslip, to wait until i get a second one and send those 2 so that i dont have to send one with a lower income than i stated in the application, and that i dont need to send 3 months worth

        cheers

  • I applied and was approved instantaneously after hitting submit.

  • When does the credit expire?

    • +1

doesnt it appear and offset against your bill?

    • +1

Basically a $249 cashback if you hit the requirements. Similar to what ANZ does.

  • What can you do with 75,000 QFF Points ?

    • If you convert them to eWish gift cards, your points are worth ~ $394 (not that you only have pre-selected denominations of $25, $50, $100 and $250 I believe).

If you want to get more bang for buck - it might be better to convert them for flights or flight upgrades.

    • Adult return to nz use to be about 36k per adult + taxes

  • Thanks op!

  • Nice deal but the 18 months kills it for me, only cancelled last August 😭

  • Thanks Op! Applied and was approved straight away. Selected minimum $2k limit.

  • +1

How strict are they regarding the 18 month previous holder rule? I closed amex qantas ultimate card on 19/03/2018… That's literally 4 days out if I apply on 15th September.. aaagh terrible timing.

    • My guess is you will be in grief. When I enquired once when I wasn't sure what my exact date to qualify for a promotion at the time, the wording was along the lines of "You'll be only eligible for "xxx bonus points" on dd mmm". That indicated me it was smack on 18 months.

    • +2

if you closed the account 19/03/2018, that's 30 months.

    • do you mean 2019? 2018 is over 2 years ago.

    • Ohh yeh that was a typo. It's 2019… Uugh I guess I'll cross my fingers for an extension of the offer for a couple of weeks.

  • nice one thanks

  • Does government bodies in Australia mean ATO as well?

    • Yes, you can earn points at the ATO as well (albeit at a reduced rate and a 1.14% surcharge).

  • Thanks OP. Got approved immediately and thought they were going to ask me for more info given i have another credit card with $15K limit. But i only selected $5K limit for this one.

  • Exclusion period?

  • I'm not eligible for this card but my wife is. Unfortunately, she doesn't have Qantas FF membership but I do. Can she apply for this card and provide my FF details so I get the points?

    • She would get a new membership for free and surely they will credit the points to that account.

    • +1

no usually has to match, but just create an account to your wife, it's free via woolies and you might even get a bonus point or something

  • only for new amex customers again!

  • +1

Anyone who had to provide payslips get approved yet?

    • I sent payslip yesterday night and still wait for approval. When did you send yours?

      • yeah same, sent in the afternoon

        • You should find out today then. I submitted my payslips Wednesday afternoon and got the approval SMS & email yesterday at 1:09pm.

    • Just give them a call guys. You'll get instant approval if all good. That's what I did anyway :-)

      • Cheers might give them a ring later today

      • I took this advice. I called up and was approved 3 minutes later. I originally filled out the first page of the form and closed the browser. Later in the day, I completed the application entirely. Turns out that the first incomplete 'application' was taken as a formal application, which is a bit dodgy. They deleted the incomplete application and approved me right away.

    • Still waiting also

    • +1

Just give them a call and the representative will process your application right away with your information provided. FYI, I just rang them and got myself approved.

      • Just called and got approved! Thanks guys

      • Cheers, called and approved over the phone.

Like many others, I recently got instantly declined from the ANZ Plat card (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/555810) even though my circumstances were way above criteria. In regards to my credit score which is currently in a "good" condition, would it be smart to apply for this so quickly after being declined?

    • +1

Too many credit card applications in a short time is generally viewed negatively by banks. Having said that:
      A) Amex can't see if ANZ declined your application
      B) I applied for the ANZ card in August and still got approved for this Amex one when I applied a few days ago (and including the ANZ one, I have seven other active credit cards)

      • A) Doesn't declined applications for credit hit your credit report?

        • +1

AMEX can only see you applied for a credit card with ANZ and not if it was approved/declined, and yes your credit file will take a hit for the application.

  • Is Amex widely accepted? I’ve been to a few places which charge a higher surcharge for Amex cards or do not accept them at all.

  • What a great deal, thanks OP 👌🏼

  • applied yesterday at 3:17pm (didn't provide driver's license)
received email asking for payslips at 3:48pm
    approved today at 2:26pm

    another free 75,000 points thanks.

    • Where did you get your other free 75,000 points from?

      • ANZ Visa few months ago

        • How long did it take to get the ANZ points after hitting min spend?

          • +1

@bym: mine came 2 months after hitting the spend

            • @impulse555: Ah thanks. It's been a few weeks for me since reaching the spend - been waiting for them to come in so I can cancel the card.

          • @bym: sorry for the late reply.

from my memory it took a long time, like 2-3 months

  • +1

Applied late yesterday, they called me early this morning with a couple of questions and i got approved right away.

They said it'll take 7-10 days for the card to arrive due to covid mail delays. Hopefully it doesn't take too long; i have a few bills due early this month that i'd like to use to chip away at that 3k spend requirement.

  • Hey all, I'm self-employed and finding it difficult to get approved with the previous ANZ deal and this one keeps asking for extra information. My partner and I collect QFF under my name.
Does anyone know if she applies for it and get the points under my QFF member number?
    Thanks

    • I believe it will accumulate under the qff acc of the primary cardholder.

    • It would accumulate under her name in her own QFF account.

However, there's nothing stop her from then transferring the points over to you via family transfers.

  • Why is it the normal 3k min spend when COVID has everyone decreasing spend?

    • That’s only $1k/month though, not even COVID can stop you reaching that, even in Victoria.

  • +1

Great deal Just applied today should get the card in the next 7 days.

  • Approved in 24 hours. awesome!

  • Shame I applied only a few weeks ago for the discovery card

  • Thanks OP,

Quick and seamless to apply, under 10 mins - now to await approval.

Nice way to effectively get 'free' 75,000 QFF.

  • Ah (profanity), I just applied and was approved for the Qantas Discovery card the other day, and it's now in the mail. I assume it would be too late to cancel that? Or does the "previously held card" clause only apply to cards that are activated?

    • I think you'll find your credit card account is open now regardless of whether the physical card is activated.

      • Spoke with a few customer reps on the phone and they were kind enough to go ahead and cancel the Discovery card account and allow me to apply for the Premium card to which they will manually sort out the points and statement credit bonus once approved. Happy days :)

        • Nice one! I think if you let it run the normal course you would've missed the bonus points so you've done well to get them to manually apply it for you.

          • @thestig: Yeah originally they told me that it wouldn't be possible but eventually I got thru to an Aussie guy named Dan who sorted me out no dramas at all :)

  • Anyone on Jobkeeper been approved with this?

    • +1

It doesn't say that you are on JobKeeper on your 2019-2020 TR notice of assessment (which is one of the documents you can supply as a proof of income) ;-)

  • they called me and rejected my application after confirmed the figures by phone. They did not ask for any evidence such as payslip, salary credit, rental statement.

My total income is 2x - 3x of the income requirement, no dependent, $6000 other credit card. Really disappointed as Amex is one of the easiest to apply according to my past exp.

    • Sounds near identical to me and my experience,

Nearly double minimum income, one other card with 6K limit, no dependables etc.

Asked why I’d been rejected and whether there was additional detail i can provide?e.g. previous months payslips with bonus and commissions

Answer was no can’t do anything on phone and that they’d send a letter explaining why I was unsuccessful and only then would I be able to submit additional detail.

      • same.

I understood the staff was only for application team and not authorised to answer our questions. She asked me to wait for the rejection letter for further actions. I doubted whether I will be eligible for the bonus point even I got approved later.

        • Oh wow thought I was the only one getting rejected but guess not. Suppose apply for 3 credit card with 2 months must have raised alarm bells with them. Think it’s a sign. 😂😂

      • @xiaozaocha and @VenusDemilo and @nightelves

mind sharing what was on the physical letter you received, and whether you had any luck appealing it?

i was declined automatically as well (even though i have more than 2 X minimum income requirement and only one other credit card with $5k credit limit. have had 5 - 6 cards in the past 3 years, all paid off on time)

The letter I received from Amex was pretty generic

We're writing to let you know that we cannot approve your application at this time. Our decision is based on an overall assessment of the details provided to us in your application

I called their phone line and they told me that:
        - they can't provide any further information apart from what is on the letter
        - i cannot apply for a re-assessment
        - my only options are to check with my credit bureau or re-apply again after 90 days

i'm pretty baffled to be honest……

        • The letter was likewise generic and just had a reference number.

When I called I explained that I was enquiring as to why I’d been declined despite well exceeding the income requirements.

The guy went through the questions again but felt like he was willing to adjust the answers in my favour. E.g. I said I had another credit card with 6K limit, he asked if it’s in just my name or partners also. Said partners and he said okay we’ll put it down as 3k in that case.

Was then told I was successful and card arrived in mail today.

          • @VenusDeMilo: hmm, ok thanks. i'll give it a try again tomorrow, maybe i'll have better luck.

so, you're saying they can adjust your application directly and then re-approve you on the spot ?

    • +1

What credit limit did you choose? Wife got approved but they lowered the limit by a few hundreds (in between the increments). I think depends on who reviews, if someone who will try to make it work or just reject it and do nothing for you.

  • Hi all,
    Just got approved.

Just wondering if I can pay my REGO via bill paypal on Auspost and make that count towards the minimum spend?
    Thanks.

    Pagu

    • -1

How are we supposed to answer that question when we don't know what state you live in?

      • The state is irrelevant it’s if it is an eligible spend. Government bodies get 0.5 points per $1 so I’d assume it counts, worst case half the cost towards minimum spend.

        • -1

It does if they don't accept PayPal

          • -1

@kerfuffle: Eligible purchases do not include annual Card fees, cash advances, interest, balance transfers, fees and charges for traveller’s cheques and foreign currencies.

  • sorry in QLD, Thanks.

  • Mine just got approved. I have a quick question on Qantas Frequent Flyer membership. I don't have the membership yet and forgot to join it before I made my application. Would they automatically give me a new membership or do I need to join and link it when my card arrive?

    • No you will need to join and link it manually.
I believe there are various links on ozbargain where it waives the joining fee. I suggest you go look them up and save that fee (from memory its around $90)

  • I joined the job 6 months ago..My probation is completed and around will get around 80k PA. Actually I have very little expenses on my name but those are debited from my partner's account. Mine all goes to savings. Will I get approved for the card?

    • Apply to find out, you should be good to go; but who knows; people who are in good standing have been rejected. Their criteria is a mystery.

      • +1

I have the same salary and no current credit limit and got approved.

        • Thanks…Applied and approved. Very instant. They didn't ask for payslips.

  • Somehow got approved for a 10k credit limit
    Nice :)

  • Is there an extra charge for a supplementary card?

    • Nevermind, had a look that I can get up to 4 additional cards which is super handy. Thanks for the deal OP, ended up getting approved yesterday

  • How long are they taking to verify income , I sent my payslips and just waiting for a response

    • I applied and sent through documents on Thursday afternoon, was approved the next day

    • How long have you been waiting? I have been waiting a little longer compared to others, supplied Wednesday and still waiting. I will probably give them a call if I don’t hear back today/tomorrow. Seems to be the way to go as others have mentioned.

      • +1

Best to call to progress. They normally pick up quite quickly.
1300 557 743, and keep your reference number handy.

        • +1

For anyone else following I called and was approved within 5 minutes. Definitely the way to go.
