$700 at least upfront. Hope the PS5 is cheaper

    • Something tells me Afterpay is going to have a bumper xmas season.

  • +4

    $499 USD ~ $685 AUD + $68.5 (tax) = 753.5

Adding the random extra cost of being in Australia, roughly $800 or somewhere between $750~900.

    • I was being hopeful. I'm guessing it'll be around $750 after sales and promos and stuff.

    • Looks like I'll be waiting a while before I pick up a next gen console then.

    • +1

I posted in the wrong spot below.

I would think it will probably be $649 AU if they price it like the One X which was also US$499 at release.

Australian dollar was around 75c USD back then too, we are not too far off that at the moment so maybe if we are lucky 650-699 - but I think this is optimistic. It's also possible that they are coming out with a price before PS5 to then drop it once PS5 announces their price

    • More like $899 for the standard edition, $1099 for the bundle edition after adding the Australia Tax.

  • +3

Looks like I will be buying the 30 series RTX card instead.

    • It's not a bad price considering it's the cost of just a 3070.

    • +4

3070 will be the same price, $499. Don't forget about
      processor, motherboard, RAM, SSD…

      • +2

        Case, cooler, PSU and OS.

      • 3070 might be that price in about 6-9 months after supply has finally met the demand.

    • +2

Why not both? Compared to some hobbies getting both is cheap.

  • If it's somehow $700-$750 with a game or two included. I'll probably buy. Any more than $750 and i'll probably wait.

    • Games are going to be a killer. AAA are going to go for $100+ except for CP2077.

      • All the more reason I'm probably gonna go back to full PC for the next gen. A lot easier to find cheaper games usually.

        • +2

I've noticed my last year of PC gaming that whilst games are cheap, triple A titles still remain expensive. Meanwhile Xbox/PS versions often are sold around the $39~mark.

I've held off buying a lot of titles on PC because they're so expensive.

          • @Frayin: I've got a huge backlog too so that helps me. A mid range GPU should play most oldish games at max settings.

          • @Frayin: Keep im mind you can play all their upcoming games with Xbox Game Pass also, dont really need to buy them.

    • It'll no doubt come with at least a month of Game Pass, so at least you'll be set for first party games

      • None releasing at launch as Halo was delayed.

    • I wonder if I'm going to trade my one x in or not. It would be nice to have two consoles capable of playing xbox one games, digital owned games can play on both at the same time, even multiplayer with just one xbox live gold account.

      • same thing I'm considering.

        • Or would trading in the One X for a Series S make more sense.

          • @AustriaBargain: I think the $250 difference between the S and X is worth it.

            X/S
12 TFLOPS GPU power vs 4 (also 52/20 CU's and 1.82ghz/1.55ghz clock speed)
            RAM 16/10 GB
            4k/4k upscaling
Storage 1TB/512GB ($eagates SSD looks to be pricey and we know games be getting BIG)

Also having a disc drive gives you more option$ to buy games as well as being able to re-sell them and make $ome back.

            • @Wakety-Wack: What about as a second xbox series console, would you want another X or would the S do.

              • @AustriaBargain: Oh good point, The S would be fine as a secondary, but I know which one would be causing fights over =)

Also if its just a secondary maybe keep the One X for that?

                • @Wakety-Wack: What if you want to leave the second xbox as a nephews house so he can play all the digital games on it too. Is bratty nephew worth an X or an S? If X has the disc drive I guess it'd have to be teh X.

                  • @AustriaBargain: Haha yes I would rather a disc drive so you can buy him cheap second hand games on ebay ect… =) he should be able to play the digital games on the One X you share, they just wont be Series S/X optimized?

  • Finally, I'm guessing Sony will reveal the price shortly

    • Hopefully, I'm really interested in getting a PS5. Hoping it might come just before Black Friday so I could score a deal on one and maybe a 55 inch 4k TV for the my other room.

      • really? you're a PS fan…..couldn't tell :)

        • @Nalar LOL

      • Looks like there's going to be an event tomorrow finally revealing price and exact release date
I expect the price of the disc version to be similar to the Xbox Series X

  • +1

So probably $649 AU if they price it like the One X which was also US$499 at release.

I'm wondering if our $ was performing much better than it is now? Too lazy to check myself lol.

      • It was about 75c USD back then and it's at 73c right now (and seems to be going up) so it's pretty close.

  • Hmm… it'll be ok if I can get $400+ for a Halo Edition XB1

    • If you want to sell then now is the time to do so before the consoles officially get released and the value plummets

  • +1

    Series S -

    • 60% smaller than XSX
    • Custom NVME SSD (512 GB)
    • All-digital
    • 1440p up to 120 FPS
    • Ray-Tracing support
    • 4K media playback
    • 4K game upscaling
    • Variable rate shading
    • Variable refresh rate
    • ultra-low latency
    • +3
      • Custom NVME SSD (512 GB)
      • All-digital

Oh…I see. They don't want to sell any of these consoles.

Seriously though, 512 GB paired with an all-digital console?

      • It doesn’t make a difference if it’s all digital or not. Games are installed from the disc, but only act as an authorisation for proof of ownership thereafter. The read speed of the Blu-ray drive is significantly slower than the SSD - it would be a major bottleneck.

        But, yes, 512GB is pitiful.

        • I thought physical versions of games took up less space than digital? I must be mistaken.

      • Hey don't forget about the add-on storage they'll be selling you! (already been announced for the Series X but can't image why it wouldn't also support Series S)

Any guesses at the cost? .. 50% of the console price? We'll just have to wait and see I guess .. uggh

    • all digital console with 512gb storage. Good god Microsoft :P

  • As someone who hasn't owned an Xbox since the first generation (modded of course), can someone please explain to me the Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Ultimate Pass?

Would I want/need them and are they worth the cost?

    • +1

Live gold is required for online multiplayer. You can't play games online without it (think FIFA with your friends). Ultimate pass is a combination of Live gold and Game pass service which is a subscription to access a library of games at an increase in cost. As long as your subscribed you get access to these games. You should note all MS first party games are coming to game pass on day dot but 3rd party games also rotate out of it too (due agreement expiry etc). Have a look at the games library yourself to determine if this is for you.

    • +1

As above, but look out for deals on here of cheap Ultimate by use of the $1 first month (Buy up cheap xbox live gold for around $45/yr, up to 3yrs, then when you pay for your first month Ultimate for $1 it converts the whole lot into Ultimate).

Ultimate also gives you the games library on PC

Any MS exclusives (Forza, Halo etc) go on Game Pass from day 1, which could save you money if you want those

      • So if I am reading that correctly, if I get Ultimate, I don't need to pay for Xbox Live Gold as well then. ie bundled?

And if I do get Ultimate, the games (3rd party only) expire so I may still have to buy them separately if I really like them?

Thanks for the hack :) Hope I remember if it get a xbox series x box series xbox series x.

        • +1

So if I am reading that correctly, if I get Ultimate, I don't need to pay for Xbox Live Gold as well then. ie bundled?

          Yep, that's right

And if I do get Ultimate, the games (3rd party only) expire so I may still have to buy them separately if I really like them?

          Yep!

        • +1

And if I do get Ultimate, the games (3rd party only) expire so I may still have to buy them separately if I really like them?

Yes, but if you buy them while they're on Game Pass there is a discount.

Also, there's a very large number of games on there with regular updates, and they're adding EA Access to it as well.

  • +1

Just for those playing at home, went to EB to check trade value of my XB1 Halo edition. First off, the special editions only trade as a standard model. Secondly, they didn't have the OG XB1 in the trade system, only XB1S and XB1X. So if you have older than those, you're SOOL, it's off to FB/Gumtree for you!

  • We're getting a better deal on the Series X than the Series S compared to the states.

Not sure how I feel about that, I wanted to get the Series S cause I liked the form factor and don't have a 4k TV atm anyway (using an older high end plasma still)

    • Time to update to a HDMI 2.1 4K 120hz OLED that supports Dolby Vision. I have a Dolby Vision OLED and I have the itch to upgrade after only three years.

  • I find it annoying that the series s has no disc drive while the series x does. As someone who only ever really buys disc games (often reselling them after I am done) and has a small collection of 360/xbone games, it forces me to either purchase the more expensive option or not bother at all (not to mention that you can't play blu rays or DVDs). Plus digital copies are generally more expensive, so maybe in the long run it probably would be cheaper to buy the series x.

  • I just received an email from Microsoft saying:

The estimated delivery date for your order has changed. You’ll be charged when the item(s) you’ve ordered are shipped.

New estimated delivery date: October 30, 2020

    Anyone else get this?

    • yeah its an error

    • yeah I've had one saying 28 October 2020! Would be great if true but more than likely just an error.

    • And here I was thinking someone at microsoft liked me =( Thanks guys

  • I just got money taken out from Microsoft on the series x. Maybe it's not system error and 28th October is legit?

    • Fingers and toes crossed!

  • Turns out it was an error =( received this email today:

Thank you for your pre-order of the new Xbox Console from Microsoft.

Due to some system configurations we performed you may have received an email about an earlier shipping date for your pre-order. If you have, please disregard this information. Please note that your pre-order will ship from November 10th as originally stated on the website.

This system configuration also caused you to be charged early for your Xbox Console. The system configuration issue has been corrected, however, you may have already noticed a charge on your credit card.

  • Found out that they have an IR Receiver (it's built into that sync button on the front) - Happy days, can use my Logitech Harmony easily!

    https://screenrant.com/xbox-series-x-s-ir-receiver-media-rem…

  • Received an email from Microsoft today:

Get ready! The order you placed on Monday, 21 September 2020 has shipped.

Tracking number confirms it's on its way =)

  • Merged from PSA - EB Games Has Started Accepting Preorders Again for The Xbox Series X

Just checking EBGames daily for Series X deals, and have noticed that they have started accepting pre-orders again for deliveries this year. Link is here: https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/xbox-series-x/267773-xbox…

Good value for those who have a Xbox One X to trade in.

    • Any idea what do i need to pay extra if i trade in my ps4 slim 500 with 2 controllers? It has 10 games but unsure if that matters.

    • Thanks mate, grabbed one.

    • ..and its gone

    • It seems to be out of stock again. The order couldn't be processed.

    • +2

Haha wow. That was quick. Lucky I checked when I did.

Although, it's strange they didn't list it on their Twitter or anything?

      • I got one bro. I love you <3

    • Damn was checking out in my cart…. Still there but can't check out :(
Hoping amazon pulls through with more stock.

    • What a tease!

    • Probably a handful of cancelled preorders

    • I'd keep checking, as it might come back.

      Great find

    • FYI i originally had one of these "sometime this year" preorders with EB and then it got bumped forward to launch day (i guess they got more stock or others cancelled) so it may be worth reserving one if u can

      • +1

EB apparently went on a bit of a rampage cancelling scalper orders (at least those who bought more than one using bots, I assume).

    • +8

I'm tempted to make a Xbox Series X stock watcher or something site, at this rate… So people can get emails if they come back in stock or something. It'd be pretty ghetto though.

EDIT: If enough people are interested in something like this I could take a stab at it?

      • I'd been super keen and grateful for it :)

      • Sign me up!

Most of the webpage checkers I know of struggle with this sort of task.

      • Just do not add the feature of auto buying (eg a bot) - as it probably may not go down well here.

        • Such a website would need to have your credit card details to buy it, which wouldn't go down with any sane user.

      • VERY interested, I can't thank you enough for not being selfish and informing us of the new stock. Unfortunately I was driving at the time, by the time I could safely pull over the stock was already gone. I don't mind waiting until next year I just want to take advantage of the trade-in deal and don't want to be left without a console at all.

      • That would be amazing

      • I'm interested too

  • Merged from 2 Days till XB Series S/X Is Released, Who Is Amped?

Lot's of YT videos putting down both consoles, all coming from Sony Ponys, I don't get the hate nor do I care about it.
Competition is healthy but when it becomes toxic, it just leads brings all sorts of negativity to the gaming platform.

So all this aside, who bought what games for release and what upcoming releases are ordered?

    Dirt 5
    Cyberpunk 2077
Starwars Squadrons (physical copy with me that I cannot play due to already trading in XB1x)

    Future releases

    WD Legion
    Dying light 2
    Forza

I will be going through my old collection to re-play my favs with updated frame rates, this is going to be an awesome Summer imo.

    • No

    • +1

Looking forward to it, have already played a bit of Dirt 5 on the One X, will be interesting to see the improvements in the Series X version.

      • -1

OK I don't know how you got your Dirt 5 but a few questions, people screeching on YT how bad it looks and some Aussie making a video how poor the draw distance is/was.
I think that YT does not lend it self well to this game due to all the particle effects, so am I reasoning that the game is good and looks better in person than what we see on YT?

EDIT oh I just saw the release date was 6th for XB1, I have my pre order with HN which they have yet still to notify me as we all know that the game is free updates from 1 platform to the other. Official SX release date is 10th which makes no sense as it's the same game lol.

        Double EDIT

just rang HN and they have my copy waiting to be picked up, was not entered in system and that's why I was not notified.

        • +1

I don't think it looks too bad, some parts better than other. They aren't the best graphics for sure, but fine for me. I have no problem with the draw distance, I am usually concentrating on where I am driving so don't notice it. I guess you'll find out soon now that HN have got their act together.

          • @Agarwal: Yeah will pick it up as soon as EB notify me of the console, might give them a call now since Big W has already delivered someone theirs.

    • No, I'm not fussed but for those that are its a distraction, till everyone has their console and has played a few new gen titles. I look fwd to the usual this is great or this is crap, sometime major product releases don't live up to the pre sale hype I hope thes actually do

      • Yeah, the older you age the less these distractions matter.

However, there's significantly less buzz around the 2020 PS5/XBSX next-gen console release that there was of the 2016 PS4/XB1 current-gen console release. Sure, people don't want to go out in the public to lineup and spread the virus. And there's also the matter of putting people out in the public to setup the adverts (billboards etc etc), especially with the riots in USA. Most importantly, there's higher unemployment and worse economic conditions this year. And lastly, with many titles having their launch pushed back, there's really no "must have" exclusive games launching.

And curiously it seems the postal system has been hit hard too, and there's a surprising lack of online buzz and activity for the consoles too. So it seems like a very lukewarm reception. People seem more interested in buying a Nintendo Switch and playing some nostalgic games around their garden/toilet/lounge.

    • +1

lol @ Cyberpunk 2077 being on that list… you know it's going to get pushed back when we get closer to the date… That game will be out post 2077…

      • -5

You know I got that game for $50?, you know I don't care when it comes out right?, this isn't about the game it's about what you're going to do with the Series S/X console, but I guess you missed the whole point of the thread?
