  • Was just about to post this but you beat me to it 😂😂😂

    • I originally was going to post it for Big W which has it for $449, but went to check Officework to pricematch and they have it cheaper.

      • Nice surprise there…

      • Use 5% off wish gift card in Big W, brings it down to $426.55, cheaper than OW - common sense

        • For some reason that thought never crossed my mind; but I mentioned the 5% off for the 8th Gen below…

        • Where do you get these discounted gift cards?

      • +1

Ask BigW to price match OW then use the 5% off wish gift card.

Saw this today and bought the new iPad from the Apple education store for $469 instead. Worth the extra $31 imho

    • +7

Definitely a better buy for $31 extra if you have access.

EDIT: Big W has the 8th Gen listed at $499 RRP, but if you factor in 5% off eGift Cards = $474.05.

      • Along with the 5% off from egift card, if you are a woolies/bigw/bws/dm employee, you get an extra 10% off

        • Are you sure Staff discount applies to Apple Products? I know Game Console are excluded.

      • Buy from education site all the time an Apples never asked for proof

    • I can just use my sons student email to get one for $469 which is a great price, definitely worth the extra on top of this

      • +1

you dont need student email to get a education store pricing thou

    • What benefits does the education store bring?

      • Apparently $30 lesser than original price.

Is it possible to plug in external ssd or hdd using any kind of adapter?

    • Yes you can, apple sells a lightning to USB adapter and you can see all the files on it from the files app on the ipad

      • These ones are quite expensive, I am sure the ones om ebay or aliexpress won't work well.

      • You need the USB3.0 version, which has an additional power input (via a Lightning port) next to the female USB port. These are normally $65. The regular one doesn't have the power port, and a lot of devices require the additional power, since the lightning port on the device doesn't provide much on it's own

iPad 7th Gen 128 GB is $568 at Officeworks.

    • +1

Where's the cheapest place to buy the 8th gen 128gb?

      • It will be Officeworks.

      • +1

Apple's Edu store at the moment, unless you can get a staff discount from anywhere.

  • +4

8th gen out tomorrow. Might go even lower considering the rrp is 499

  • +10

$60 more and you can get 8th Gen at RRP - pretty much a no brainer.

The iPad 8 boasts a 40-percent faster CPU than the iPad 7, as well as twice the graphics capability. In addition to being much faster and more powerful than older iPad models, the newest iPad also outperforms top laptops, as well as competing tablets.

If that is launching for $499. Probably better off just waiting and paying slightly more for that one.

    • +2

Its a sad few years and potentially this next decade for Intel when a tablet ARM processor beats a laptop processor…

      • Not dissing iPads at all, and benchmarks aside but I think for sustainable performance an intel i5 would have it well and truly beat.
Definitely a sign of things to come though and it will be interesting seeing what Apple does with a SOC designed for a laptop or desktop machine.

iPad Air 64Gb and 256gb are reduced too.
    Old Price 64 Gb = $778
    New Price = $716

    Old Price 256 Gb = $998
    New Price = $916

Such a beautifully crafted useless device

I bought iPad twice only to sell it shortly after because I couldn't find a use for it.

    • +11

That sounds like a you problem but okay..

      • -1

Yeah it's a subjective problem specific to me
I have a desktop, Laptop and a mobile phone do I really need to fill the gap between the laptop and the phone?

That being said I might replace my Laptop once macOS merges with iPadOS.

Could you explain to us how your comment benefits this bargain loving forum then?

edit: actually, don't. I asked the question without actually wanting the answer.

    • +2

Bizarre. Didn’t you learn your lesson the first time lol

      • +1

It was just so nicely built lol.

        • Maybe you can buy a dead iPad Pro/air to marvel at the design

    • +1

easy to watch inside the house for youtube on a larger screen, web browsing on bed - larger screen.

    • You need kids and home schooling in a pandemic…. Lol

    • +2

I bet you dont have kids. ipads are a must have for them, not only for entertainment but most of their school assignments and homework run on iOS.

I like android phones better but ipads and iOS for tablets are far above every other tablet in the market (windows/android).

    • It’s a great travel video and streaming device.

  • why not wait for the new 8th gen one for $50 more

Same at the apple store: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/buy-ipad/ipad-10-2
But by the time you change it from 32 GB to 128 GB [32 is not enough storage in this day and age, 64 is surely the reasonable minimum], and consider adding the pencil and the keyboard the Apple go on about as some of the best new features, and suddenly that $500 purchase just became a $1000+ purchase.

    • Sorry, we weren't able to find any results for your search.

  • +1

    32 gb is nothing

  • what on earth is the difference between iPad and iPad air now.

    • +1

The iPad Air also got an update. Has an iPad Pro look

    • -1

Massive difference. This regular iPad has basically just been an evolution of the gen 1 air, gaining a bigger display and pencil support, along with a better chip (still a few gens behind the best).

The reintroduced "Air" line appears to now be last gen Pros with a few features missing. Still a bit much for the asking price but far better than the regular iPad.

  • +2

The 32 base kills the deal for me. I'm hoping next year they refresh this and the mini with the all display design, pencil 2 and 64 as base storage. And if it has USB C plus Magic keyboard support, that would be nuts, but probably unlikely.

  • 32gb doesn't give you much space to do anything. Once you factor in the OS, there isn't much room left. You will end up constantly deleting and reinstalling apps. If you buy this for a child to you, I recommend a larger capacity, as you probably want to store a few apps for them to use to keep themselves entertained. But some apps can be up to 1gb in size.
