  • How about the hub? With screen

Dang, was hoping for a better price than that..

    • I also want a new version of the Google Nest hub (non-max) I wonder if anythings in the works?

      I want Netflix/Prime video oob.

      • Netflix and Disney work currently. Haven't tried amazon

        • are you casting or using the netflix app? and are you on the Max?

          • @equinoxxx: casting and voice works, ie 'hey google play XXX on netflix'

            Normal home hub, not max.

You may or may not have to link services.

Also foxtel GO I linked last night, haven't tested yet though.

    • May be its personal, i have had mine for 3 years…. (along with mini, hub & hub max). Never liked mini, hub is kinda like mini with a display, hub nax is something of this with a 20 inch display. Only down side is you cant play youtube videos (only playable content found in youtube music)…

      • Downside of the Google Home is that it cant play YouTube videos? Well it doesn't have a screen for starters… If you mean the hub max then that's surprising, as I have the hub and watch you tube vids etc on it all the time.

        • Let me clarify, we were able to cast youtube videos (ofcourse the audio) to these devices a few years ago. Back then premium was called youtube red or something (not redtube lol)

    • Had mine for a couple of years. I find it decent enough for the kitchen. Also have Mini and Max to compare.

So something 3x more expensive sounds better. Who would of thought.

    • On its own, Google Home doesn’t sound great, but it’s decent for the price and size. I paired mine with 2 Google Home Maxes when they were on sale for $200. Total cost was $470, but the Maxes in stereo mode sound way better than a single Max. And the Google Home fills in the midrange, where the Max is a bit lacking when volume is below 50%. With these three speakers placed strategically at separate locations around the house, the music sounds incredible, better than I’ve ever experienced at home. Stereo system is now obsolete. I will probably still get the Google Nest Audio though, just because I love music that much and would like to see if it adds anything to this mix of speakers.

  • I find them to have slight hearing issues.I often have to bark command especially when songsare being played.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the 'ok google' recognition. This might help the device out.

      • +1

I got this set to highest on the google home and normal on the google nest and I found the nest can pickup much better.

        • Curious, and good to know. I only have nest and home minis, not this particular product.

        • Same problem, having to yell three times, after asking once, to get the device to respond becomes very frustrating very quickly.

wait for the new nest…apparently blows this one out of the water

  • Is anyone using the Smart Clock with homeassistant?

    • Yes - integrates just like Google Home speaker.
What do you need to know?

      • Can you do anything with the screen, like cast the home assistant dashboard?

When you ask it to turn on lights does it show the google home type interface?

        Thanks!

        • No, its a cutdown interface so you cant cast to it, but you do get photos, some weather on the default screen, and things like countdown timer display.

        • Yeah, display is pretty basic, and although there is a Streaming Hack it is not really practical implementation.

Also, when I ask it to turn the (Lifx) lights ON/OFF or dim, display does show light graphic with % and ability to adjust.

But honestly, I only use it to issue Google assistant commands while in bedroom (lights, shutter, weather, radio, shopping list, "good morning" and "good night" routines), clock, alarm, radio in a morning. Speaker is tinny, but good enough for news and announcements. Display dimming at night is brilliant and non-distracting. Bonus points for NTP sync and no need to re-adjust after power failure or Daylight Savings :)
If you are after casting device (sound/video), best to look elsewhere, but for what it is (clock/alarm/weather/radio) - it's great. I'm looking to buy another one for my son's bedroom.

For Homeassistant display, I use my old Nexus 7" tablet.

    • +1

Yep, using it too and love it. Perfect bedside clock with google assistant and some basic touchscreen functionality for lights/alarm clock. I dont use it for music, but its good enough for my basic listening needs.

      • Is it possible to setup more than 1 daily alarm?

        • +1

Yes. It's also got a 'nap timer' which sets an alarm/timer for 20 minutes.

    • Best and cleanest way to achieve this by following this. It's a big setup, enjoy.

Or just get a android phone / tablet / iPad and access the HA with HA app as these products are not design for this purpose.

      • I already have tablets mounted on the wall with HA but for the bedroom I think this is a much better form factor. Even if you could control the text below the clock it would be handy.

        • well your only option is to integrate google with HA,
then its all voice commands, f#k the touch screen.

I hardly use touch screen, everything works on voice commands, or automations.

Mounted screens are only good for show off with pretty pictures.

  • Looks like the Google Home's already out of stock.

    No apple watches? :(

  • Which is the better smart clock? Much differences?

    • Check on YouTube ? Few reviews there

  • +1

Managed to score 1 before it went out.

  • My last two Good Guys orders took three weeks to arrive. My third is at three weeks currently and I just got a text telling me there will be further delays.

Meanwhile orders from overseas are taking as little as ten days. Can't say I'm over the moon with GG.
