Why does it say $300 GC on the website?

  • +1

will be good if they include international calls ,, or allow to add on

    • I'm sure they'd allow you to put the international calls add on once you joined though, personally I'd talk to the sales person

      • hi mate,
i have spoken to them and Telstra will not allow it as its not good for telstras own plan

  • +1

This one or the one with 180GB data? Both are $65, but what one doesn’t offer gift card

    • +1

I personally would trade 100Gb/month for the voucher. 100Gb/month not getting used can't be converted to money.
I'm with boost at the moment, on the $30 for 20gb/month. Barely use more than 15gb/month.

      • +1

Just thinking about this for me. I'm on the aldi $25 18gb plan and don't need more data.

So really since the deal and using the gift card brings the price down to about $25 a month is not really a benefit for me?

        • Don't forget that your voucher is only really worth 80-90% of it's stated value if you don't intend to use it in store

        • +1

No. It's more like afterpay $400 over 12 months for you. If you don't have $400 to spend on something right now then this is it

          • +1

@trantonz: I meant for people who don't ever intend to buy anything from JB but fair point

  • +2

I'm on the $59 Telstra contract with my Pixel 2XL which i've already finished paying off.

What's the easiest way to move onto this deal?
Do I need to call Telstra first to cancel first or just buy a $2 SIM and port out and go to JB after and sign up again?

    • +3

Go to optus for a $2 sim (they give it for free), then have them activate it on the spot (just say you'll recharge when u get home), take it to Telstra, port in, get the deal, then contact Telstra through app chat and ask for a numbers/plan to be swapped. After they are swapped, cancel the old plan :)

    • Yeah I'd do that, personally I ported out to circles on the $1 deal because it was cheap last month

    • Just port out to another provider(e.g Optus $2 sim), call Telstra to make sure your plan is cancelled after you port out(if you cancel then try to port out you can lose your number), wait a few days(at least two) and then port back into Telstra via jb/TGG.

  • +1

Still waiting for stores in Melbourne to open up so I can get the S20 FE 5G and a plan. Can't do it on the phone unfortunately.

  • +1

Would anyone know if a port in from Woolworths mobile (Telstra network) is eligible for this offer? I understand Boost and Belong are not.

    • +1

Might be a bit dicey, there isn't really a guide unfortunately

    • +1

Yes you can do it from Also/Woolworths even though they are on Telstra network they aren't 'Telstra' companies.
The only issue you might encounter is that your service might take a day or so to port and that'll impact whether you get your gift card right away or not esp if doing it in the store.

      • Thanks, just called them and they confirmed that Woolworths port ins are eligible. Do you mean it might be quicker for me to do the port in over the phone instead of going in store?

        • No I'm just saying that porting numbers from and Telstra network company to another Telstra Network company always has the risk it will take longer to process is all. It might take 24h-48h where as most of the time if you move from Optus to Telstra or vise versa it's done in 30m tops.
If you aren't in store hoping to get your gift card while you are waiting then it's not an issue :)

  • +2

Does this work for new customers too? As in new number?

    • +1

They mentioned it as a port in for me, but if you get a cheap $2 sim and port that over you'll be right

    • +1

It should. JB couldn't port in my mobile number, but added a new one, which is not what i was after. So yeah. Give them a call… 🐨🚬

  • +1

hmmm i guess since both me and my wife are with Telstra i cant take advantage of this and get a sim for my daughter … she's going to highschool next year..

    • It's a lot more phone number based I've noticed, try porting out your daughters current sim to another provider and then try to port back in, you've got about enough time.

      • She doesn't have one.. we were getting it when she went to highschool so i can just grab a pre-paid and give it a go?

  • "With the use of voucher…" .. wait what? Gift Voucher IS NOT equal to hard cash.

    • +1

True, I'm doing it that way for the sake of simplicity though. Additionally, I'm planning to use the $400 for Christmas gifts so I don't mind that it's JB.

    • "Gift Voucher IS NOT equal to hard cash."

Since when? I'm sure we had this discussion when JB disallowed payment of launched consoles with gift vouchers.

  • Anyone know if you would be able to put the $400GC towards the pixel 5, activate the service on the telstra sim if that qualifies for the Google Nest Hub Max?

    $59 x 12 = $708
    Pixel 5 $999 - $400GC = $500
    $708 + $500 = $1208.00

12 Months plan with 80GB for $200 plus a Google Nest Hub Max worth $349.00RRP

    • +1

      Your math is off, $999 - $400 is $599. So $1308 total.

      • Snap! $308 still seems like a great deal if it does work.

    • Can I have the link Google hub Max deal ?

      • Deal is here
But the redeem instructions are on Telstra's website. Seems when you activate your service you get a promo code to use in the Google store. Not 100% sure you'll get the SMS on TGG plan though (even though the service is Telstra, AFAIK they are seen as slightly different in the Telstra system)

        • So do you need to buy the phone from Telstra to get this?

          • @diddy50: I couldn't say for certain. The system may just generate a code for new services or it may somehow be linked

            • @whitelie: Nothing stopping me buying from Telstra to qualify and then selling jb voucher.

              • +1

@diddy50: I don't understand what you mean…you have to buy from JB to get the voucher but when you activate that service it will be under the JB plan which may not send you the promo code. I think it will have to be a month to month Telstra plan in order to receive the code….happy to be wrong though!

                • @whitelie: Yeah my error here. I thought I could qualify for both deals. Thanks for clearing it up

                • +1

                  @whitelie: From Telstra rep

"You must choose the in market plans available through the Telstra website along with the new Google Pixel 5 phone so that you'll be eligible with the promotion."

"JB Hi-Fi plans has it's own promotion and this will not be covered by the Google Max promotion."

  • +1

do you think they will launch another deal when the iphone 12 comes to the market ( after 23rd oct) like last year where they offered 500$ off the iphone??

  • If I’m on a previous iteration of this plan without 5G - has anyone had success swapping over to this 5G plan?

  • +18

For those who are new to these offers and want to sign up and keep their existing number, I thought I would collate my learnings from when I signed up to the last deal a few weeks ago. I am in Vic so i signed up over the phone by calling JB on 13 52 44, entering my postcode, and selecting option 1 to talk to the JB telstra signup team who are located in WA.

If you are currently with Telstra and are out of contract, buy a cheap non-telstra simcard with a new number, and port-in that number to sign up to this deal. Then contact Telstra 24/7 live chat. What you want to ask them to do is cancel your current plan, but tell the agent you want to keep your number and move it onto this new plan you signed up to. Getting them to do this was a massive hassle for me, as five telstra agents had no idea how to do it, but eventually i got it done.

So in summary, to move your number across to the new plan, simply ask the agent to do it. It's likely they'll have no idea, so click "resolve" i the telstra app and hopefully you get put through to someone different. If they don't know how to do it, try suggesting that they take the following steps:

Disconnect the phone number I want to keep.
Then perform a change fnn (Full National Number) order on number from the new order
    Go to number selection
Bring up number I want to keep
It will come up as “quarantined”
There's a field for “quarantine override reason”
    Select 'customer had number previously'
    Finish order

As for getting your giftcard, JB say they will issue it by email 48-72 hours following the activation of your simcard. If you haven't received it yet, contact JB and mention it hasn't come through. Mine then came through 12 hours later as the JB person on the phone chased it up with their manager.

And finally, for those wanting to buy a new iPhone you can get 5% off JB HIFI vouchers if you are a Suncorp customer. Suncorp also allow you to sign up if you have various other insurances too (e.g AAMI). In terms of getting these giftcards, for the first time, you need to go through a payment verification process for the card you want to use to pay for the giftcards on Suncorp's website and it is very annoying. Basically to use a credit card to pay for a gift card on the Suncorp Benefits portal, they deduct a random amount (between $0.01 to $2.99) from your card, and you need to enter that amount in order to use your card. I tried this first with an ING card and the authorisation amount didn't show up. I then tried to register my 28 degrees mastercard and it showed up straight away. So my card is now verified and I was able to pay for the gift card.

I then paid for the JB HIFI gift card, however it was not issued straight away. So you need to call up AAMI/Suncorp and they verify your identify over the phone and they issue the giftcard within 2 mins.

Hope all these learnings help someone!

    • +1

Thanks for the detailed instructions.. can I ask why you didn't port your current no. to the non-telstra sim and then use that to obtain the deal? Not having a go, genuinely curious..

      • I assume, so he doesnt run into the risk of having to wait 30 days?

    • +1

      Really appreciate it, thankyou.

      • +3

Good question @raphtam. If i did it that way, I would've had to wait 30 days to port out of telstra before porting back in, as this is a requirement of these contracts.

    • Agreed but be careful guys. I lost use of my number for 7 days and had to get an extra sim. Twice got it working and then off again. I think what happened is multiple requests to get the number ported out by different operators on telstra. Was escalated at telstra
Massive hassle at work, lucky I have a dual sim phone and bought an aldi sim for the meantime.

    • Thanks for providing those information.

I am currently in the same boat and just want to have some clarification.

I am with currently with Telstra, as you suggested, I will just need to get a new SIM with new number, port in to the Telstra plan and once successfully ported I will then contact Telstra that I would like to cancel the plan I currently have (which I signed up last year and the contract has ended) but move my current number to the new plan I just signed up. Is that correct?

What's the turn around time for the number to swap over?

      Thanks in advance!

    • Has anyone else done this recently? It sounds like quite a bit of trouble. If I ported my number from Telstra to Optus/Vodafone, and then went to JB to sign up and port in, is it a strict 30 days? Or does it depend on the consultant?

      • Would like to know if anyone has done this recently and have run into issues too.

Yes, you will have to wait 30days according to all comments on this and previous thread.

However, the comment above suggested to purchase a $2 Sim and activate it then port in to a new Telstra plan. Once ported successfully then you contact Telstra and telling them you would like to cancel your current Telstra plan (given that your current contract ended to avoid ETC) but you wanted to keep this number. I believe they can help you to swap your current number to the newly signed up plan.

I hope I understood this correctly, I'm waiting for @carpecrash reply to confirm.

      • +2

Not strictly 30 days.. I have waited for 3 weeks. It depends on consultant as well. Normally they avoid a day or 2 day gap to get back to Telstra network.

        • Will give it a shot before the deals end and hopefully can port in again without having to wait 30 days. Otherwise, finger crossed to have the deal back up again when 30 days reached.

      • I just did this a few days ago.
Day 1: Was on Boost, ported to prepaid Optus, tried to sign up for deal in-store at JB, JB said no I have to wait 30 days (but the deal will be over)
Day 3: Call up JB sales phone line, order got submitted and went through :)

I wanted to avoid the longer method of signing up with a new number, requesting change of FNN etc, so I decided to try my luck on the phone.
Not sure if the JB phone guy didn't care, or if the 2 day wait helped.

For what its worth, the 30 day requirement is something that JB imposes, and is not something the Telstra system blocks from happening. So you might get lucky and get a sales rep that doesn't care or doesn't check.

        • Good to know, just ported out to Optus few days ago, will try and ring up JB tomorrow! Fingers crossed.

    • Is there any difference if I just get a new number and do the switch instead of porting from prepaid?

    • or… switch to pre-paid and back as changing from a pre-paid service with telstra to a post paid service counts as a port in.

    • So im the process of this atm - but apparently it could take a few days to go into quarantine. Doesnt seem to have happened yet. How long did yours take if you dont mind me asking? Edit: mine completed after about an hour.

    • These are the instructions I followed and whole process from in-store to home was 2 hours.
Take with you a sim remover tool to make your process easier and if you have a spare phone use that to activate the new one so you still have your old active.
      1. Went to shops, grabbed a $2 sim, signed to new number.
      2. Went to JBs said I already have a Telstra account and put this new number on the new plan.
      3. Did it in 10-15 minutes and when I got home new and old plan were on the My Telstra app.
      4. Logged on to chat and said I want to change my fnn on my new plan 04xxx to my old number 04xxx
      5. Live chat after changing reps one time said they knew what to do and did it in the background and sent a message when it was all done. The My Telstra app has push notifications so you dont need to keep it open now.

      • Did they have to disconnect your old number first?

        • No that's a separate thing to the JB steps. If you are not under contract thats where steps 4 and 5 come in to switch the old number to the new plan and then cancel the old plan.

  • +2

Thanks. I signed up over the phone. 30mins.
    Sim will arrive on Wednesday.
Voucher to arrive within a week or so.
Very easy, I ported in from telechoice

  • -1

Note telstra also lets you port in from telstra prepaid so its easier to switch your old telstra number to a pre-paid one.

  • Just signed up over the phone. Took about 30mins. 20mins would've been reading out the conditions.
The JB Voucher to be emailed out in 2-5 business days

  • Anyone know when this deal expires?

    • 31 October.

  • Currently with Optus and just spoke to one of their sales rep, the best they are able to offer me is $107.77 ($70.77 for device + $37 for sim) per month over 24months contract for an Iphone 12 pro max 128gb with 60gb data. For some reason, the cost of the Iphone promax over 24months comes to a total of $1698.48 as to $1849.00 if you purchase outright.

Trying to work out which will be a better deal for me.

    1) Optus $107.77 per month with 60gb data. ($107.77x24months = $2586.48over 24months
    2) Telstra offer ($1849-$400 =$1449) + ($59x$12=$708), assuming when the 12months end, I sign up to another deal for $49 per month ($49x12=$588).
Total cost for Telstra will be ($1449+$708+$588)= $2745 over 24months

Can someone please check my maths? I was wondering if I am calculating it incorrectly or is Optus actually a better deal?

I suppose benefits to stick with Telstra is the Telstra plus points you able to accumulate over time and better network coverage?

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Edit: 60gb or 80gb is not a deal breaker for me.

    • didn't know that they already have the price for the pro max?

      • It's not shown on their website, I specifically asked the sales rep and that's the price she quoted me. Strange thing is it works out to be $150 cheaper than buying it outright..

    • I think the salesperson has given you the price of the 12 Pro, not the 12 Pro max.

Good deal on the phone plan though.

      • I think you are probably right, I just had a look at the cost for Iphone 12 pro 128gb over 24months and it is $70.77 exactly. However I doubled confirm with the sales rep and she said yes, it will be $70.77 for the Iphone 12 pro max. Let's say if she made a mistake by quoting me the incorrect price, do you think they will honour it?

        The conversation is as below:

Do you have any information on what the cost to Iphone 12pro max will be?
        Victoria at 16:24, Oct 17:

Will let you know the pricing.
        Victoria at 16:24, Oct 17:

$70.77 for the device 24 Month contract 128 GB
        You at 16:26, Oct 17:
$70.77 for Iphopne 12 pro max with 128GB?
        Victoria at 16:27, Oct 17:

That's correct, this is just for the device.

        • no way they can honour that lmao. The phone is not out yet and it's not like you have actually purchase the device. Even if it's out you won't be able to just walk into a store and show them the convo or get it online. But hey you can try

          • +1

@sauce2k: Yep no luck, the sales rep confirmed that the previous person I spoke to have made a mistake. Best Optus could do is offer $10 off a Sim only plan.

I have now signed up with the new Telstra plan!

    • +1

When your Telstra 1 yr finish port out and sign up another $59 with $400 gift card.

  • Can this deal be done alongside the discounted mobile-bundled plans?
In particular the S20 FE 5G deal currently for $299 outright with a 12 month phone plan.

    • +1

Doubtful when it says "not in conjuction with any other offer" in the fine print.

      • Ah yep. That was too blurry to read clearly, thanks

  • +1

Thanks OP. Went into a JB and got the deal for myself and my partner. Service activated straight away and got our physical gift cards on the spot.

  • +5

Just came back from Mile end adelaide JB, they offered me the $500 with the $59 plan.

    • Was it advertised? Just local store special?

      • +1

After doing all the paper work when the clerk tried to chose the promotion it was available so she went for it. Can't really tell you if its one store specific champ.

        • Hoping I can get the 500 deal today 🤞 any chance you know the name of the lass that helped you?

          • @BIGPETE0005: Did you end up getting the $500 gift card?

            • @tempco: 400 in the end, the guy there was pretty chill. He said I missed out by a few days on the $500 which serves me right for not doing it straight away.

  • — Data is for personal use in a smartphone only.—

Has anyone used the sim in a modem?

  • Received the Sim today in the mail. Am I meant to activate it on the Telstra site straight away? Nothing has come my way in info about the activation instructions. (I'm on optus keeping number..porting to telstra)

  • I assume there is no issue using the gift cards on the iPhone 12 when it is released? That makes it $949 for an iphone 12 which isn't too shabby.

  • When will this deal expire?

I'm with Optus, used to be $40, 80gb, 4gb roaming (which is the main reason I got it, travelled often). I was really happy with it until it becomes$50 recently, because the 24months promotion ended.

I ordered a $5 Telsim, $28 60gb, 28days renewal though. Told Optus I gonna opt out, they then offered me $49, 100gb, 2gb roaming (dont/can't travel now but just wanted it somehow, for later).

Last night, saw a salesperson promoting Amaysim, $40 200gb, it's 28 days too, but really attempting!!

And this deal here with Telstra is attractive too, because my mum could use the GC for her new apartment TV or something.

Ehh, I'm stuck! Can anyone help me with the calculation please :'(

    • +2

You get the $10 monthly credit for 12 months so after that the plan itself reverts to $69 a month. If I were you I'd take this as you get the Telstra network, but pull out at the end of your contract and go back to Optus for a month. If you're lucky you might be able to port back to Telstra and get some more vouchers for next year.

      • Thanks, sounds like a plan.

        • +3

I always go to aldi prepaid when coming off these telstra plans. Prices are good and still uses a lot of the Telstra network.

  • Looking at the terms and conditions of this plan I can’t see where it says about the 30 days of porting out and back in. Can anyone confirm this in writing ?

  • is boost considered non telstra since it's owned by telstra?

  • anyone know if they closed the loophole that was done by many ozbargainers where they would sign up to this plan, upgrade their plan with telstra with no lock in contract then disconnect their service without paying the ETC?

  • Is this still available? Their website shows a much dodgier deal ($300 GC and no $10 discount):
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore

Looking for the best way to get a Pixel 5.
