Damn, Apple still releasing 64GB phones, without expandable storage!?
    Poor form.

    • Those are for the plebs. Apple wants you to get the ones with bigger storage as there's huge mark-ups on the higher storage options.

    • +1

You meant to be cheering Apple for not going with 64GB, skip, 256GB, 512GB.

    • +1

Can't wait for the Apple iCard, a magical card that increases your storage on the new iPhone 20

      ~~ I N N O V A T I O N … ~~

    • +1

If you’re using cloud services there’s not much need for a lot of storage.

    • Strike one out of two - The Balance is a US based website smh

How are the QAnon forums lately? Learn anything even remotely factual?

    • Cancelling a phone plan does not give your credit score a strike. Getting your phone plan cancelled because you owe them money and you not paying it back does.

  • It's 80GB (60+ 20 bonus), not 150GB (as in my email)

  • Do they have iPhone 12 pro?

  • I’m confused, Telstra did a bunch of advertising saying that they don’t do lock in contracts anymore.

    • +3

These are JB specific plans, standard Telstra ones don’t

    What is ETC?

      Etcetera

  • What happens if the JB store doesn't have any stock of the phone? Can they set you up on the plan and sell you the phone, and then pick it up a week later or whatever when their next shipment arrives?

    • No, unfortunately not…I called 2 stores about it….annoying

      • Interesting. A mate of mine preordered the pixel 4a 5g on the $500 gc promo last week.

Not only was he able to move to Telstra ,while waiting for phone to be released in 3 weeks time. He was also able to apply the $500 gc to the phone purchase.

I guess that's the diff with getting a gc and phone.

      • I can second this. They need stock in hand.

  • Does this invoice at full price (for tax purposes)?

    • nope it will say for full price - gc = final price.

    • +1

I just did this with the Samsung FE and the invoice has full price. That part of the payment uses a gift card internally at JB shouldn't make any difference.

      • Great, thank you!

  • Do you get a tax invoice for the full cost of the phone if you go down this path?

    • I think the tax invoice you say telstra gift card for the remaining amount. The GST was however marked on the full price. This was my experience a year back. I am not sure if this has changed.

      • So if you cancel and pay the ETC how do you end up with a completed tax invoice. I want to salary sacrifice the device and ideally, the invoice would show the full RRP for the phone.

  • can you pay the $549 with jb gc?

    • on what grounds can they say no ? if it was other gc's ok, but not for a "product".

    • My guess (not 100% certain) is that you won't be able to. I would think you need to complete the purchase transaction to be able to receive the gift card. In store rep can probably answer that best though.

    iPhone mini deal plz

    • Definitely not enough deals going around on this one. All the focus is on the 12 and 12 Pro.

      • +5

mini and pro max aren't out yet

  • Without reading any comments, isn't the title wrong? Wouldn't you have to add the $89 first month charge so there's even less discount?

  • Looks a great deal. Unfortunately, I'm with Boost already. So have a couple of questions if I'm interested in getting the phone only.
    - will they give this for a new number sign up? If not, what about just getting a cheap throwaway sim and using that to port in?
    - after cancelling the plan, will the phone be locked to a network or would I be able to use it on Boost?

    • Yes to Using a cheap throwaway and yes to unlocked

    • New number signup worked for me this morning on a similar deal (Samsung FE) although a throwaway SIM might be good to port out to in order to cancel the plan. I cancelled through live chat and it was painful.

  • +1

Every time I get excited about these deals, I realise for the same price I can buy the phone outright, keep my cheap pre paid plan and not be in a contract haha!

    • +2

Where can you buy this phone outright for $1150? And that price is without contract (because it assumes you have cancelled).

      • Yeah fair point, didn’t think about cancelling it - the discount is there but for someone on Telstra already it requires porting out and messing around, which I don’t think is worth it personally.

Guess I’m not a dedicated ozbargainer haha!

        • +1

If you plan to cancel you don’t need to port out, you just sign up a new service.

        • +1

As @FXD said, no messing around with porting. Just sign up with a new number, cancel, and enjoy the phone outright at a significant discount. I just did it with a Samsung S20 FE 5G. $1150 phone for $600.

          • @dazweeja: I’m going to give it a go, when is it appropriate to cancel? Can you do it on chat or do you need to call them?

            • @whatgift: I did it on chat as soon as I got home from the store. They ask a lot of questions and it takes a while. I believe another option is to port the new number out to a throwaway SIM on another network which has the effect of cancelling but I haven't tried that.

First thing, DONT BUY A 64gb VERSION ~ period! 128gb is enough these days but less is just a waste of money that could be spent on a much better spec'ed android! Asside from the extra Telephoto camera + LIDAR on the Pro its the same as the basic 12… https://www.apple.com/au/iphone/compare/

So iPhone 12 128gb is $1429 minus $800 CR is $629 + $89x12= $1068 = $1697 total, $268 over RRP for the phone alone! And your out of contract for the iPhone 13 when its announced next too… Unless you have an amazing SIM only plan you cant let go off, I cant say its worth the lousy 15% saving over canceling!

BUT if you can avoid the cancelation charge and go on the $110 plan at $65 a month for 12 months, after $50CR & with 180gb then endless data @1.5mbs, well its better than a kick in the pants! But it need patience and effort as well as a thick skin for hearing NO a LOT too.

  • Do we get international call for free if not how to get the international pack added for the deal

    • Telstra app add call pack. Not free though. They stopped having free international for a few years now

  • -1

It’s not worth it though, how could you own a 64gb phone these days

    • You can go for the 128gb version for $629.

      • Wow that’s fab. Do you know if they let you buy also the 256gb?
Also do they allow gift card to pay the gap?

        • You can get the 256gb, essentially you pay the balance remaining after the $800 gift card credit is applied. You should be able to use JB gift card to pay the balance, I don't see why not.

    • +2

      Plenty for most people

  • What does it mean if the phone on the site is available for Click and Collect immediately but not to Buy in Store? Is it that I’m in Victoria and they haven’t updated their systems for the new restrictions?

  • If you're after a slightly cheaper deal you can do this one - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/576973

Note that you're getting less data.

    • People are doing it to get the cheap iPhone, not for the plan

      • I mean if you want to keep the plan it's not a bad deal for the plan + phone.

        • Yes I agree

  • Has anyone signed up on a new number?

    • +1

I tried in store they said it's only port in .

      • Thanks

    • I did it tonight, but had to go and buy a cheap sim, activate it, then use that to port in. That was suggested by the JB guy haha!

      • +1

Thanks guys, I had a lycamobile ready to go.
Going into the city tomorrow and I hope to pick one up on the way back

  • How unlikely is it that they will have something similar in the future for the 12 pro? Fat chance, or maybe?

    • +1

I would say that is likely. Depends on how long you want to wait. I’m going to look at the new iphone tomorrow and I will decide. I am quite excited by the prospect of a smaller iphone with the same 6.1 screen as my current xr.(but better screen too) . The pro is nearly as heavy as the xr (albeit thinner and smaller), so I’ll decide tomorrow.

  • Anyone have a clearer screenshot of the deal? In particular anything about the larger iPhone models. Or better yet a link to the email?

    • Larger iPhones haven’t come out yet. Or do you mean gb?

      • Sorry yes, I mean the 128GB models.

        • It’s $800 off any size iphone 12. I got the 128GB

          • @[Deactivated]: Thanks, I signed up in store earlier today and afterwards I noticed they only gave me a $600 credit/gift card towards the iPhone 12 128GB rather than $800. 😔 I was hoping I could get a better quality screenshot or email to show the rep in store tomorrow.

            • @Stanvx: So how much did u pay in store?

            • +1

@Stanvx: Yeah they’ve given you the wrong offer, there are several options, I had to confirm the offer in the list on their computer.

            • @Stanvx: Thanks All, I went in today and got a $200 refund without a hassle! 😀

        • Deal valid for all iPhone 12 . Just signed up in Castle Hill store

  • I signed up today at JB Garden City on the $89 plan and bought the iPhone 12 128gb in red and got then$800 gift card. My number ported over immediately otherwise you don't get the gift card until it does port across. I then went to the counter, they loaded $800 onto a gift card, scanned my phone, took the $800 off and I paid total of $629. Went very smoothly.

    • I went in store today but was underwhelmed by the iPhone 12 so didn’t upgrade. I’ll wait for the 12 pro and see if that is more appealing to me.
I have an xr which is still great. Maybe it’s not time to upgrade yet (for me at least)

      • Whats the pro go that 12 doesnt besides a slightly better camera. I thought the 12pro looks cheaper with its shiny chrome looking stainless steel compare the the nicer matte finish alum. and I liked the glass back of the 12 compared to the strange glass/vynnl feel of the 12pro. All in all cant see the point paying extar 300 for the pro

        • Looks is personal, so you may be happy with 12. 12 pro has extra 2gb ram, 2x zoom camera and extra 64gb memory on base model.

          • @Fancydancer: It’s also $270 most than the 128gb iPhone 12 and $350 more than 64gb. Is an extra 2gb ram (not official) which probably doesn’t really make much diff to performance and little bit better camera worth it. Not sure.. I also have the iPhone X with shinny stainless and what annoyed me is the fine scratches you get over time. The 12 pro has the same kind of casing

  • So now that I am on the $99 plan, paying $89, can I upgrade to the 180gb plan? The sales dude said that if you upgrade JB may take th $800 gift card back. Anyone else tried?

    • May being the operative word ;)

  • Any chance this deal will come back?

    • Yes

      • Haha anything more specific? Was gonna go this arvo to get one for my wife, but it looks like the deal is over?!

        • Sorry, yes - I don't know for sure that there'll be something but I've been following for a long time and they do come up VERY frequently. It might not be exactly this one but something similar. If you don't need JB specifically Good Guys are the same plans but they do in store promos sometimes timed differently.

          • @Fancydancer: Thanks bud. I’ll keep an eye out :)
