15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

      • Im not Asian! I felt bad for the good Asians who legit needed the baby formula, but they are full of shit (Coles employee)….he's probably just butthurt that I got the last of the cards and he missed out because he's been packing load all day.

    • exactly what happened to me at Coles Manuka in ACT. Appalling customer service. Why don't you report them to Fair Trading for misleading representations and deceptive conduct? They know they can get away because most people will do nothing about it.

  • +1

Just got off the phone with Coles head office.

They advised me to send a photo of each of the cards to them

Concerning they advised me that they are aware stores were told that the issue had been resolved but as far a head office was concerned the issue is NOT resolved.

She said it was concerning that stores had received this information

    • Hey mate, can you advise which email address from Coles to send to? I'm in the same boat unfortunately.

  • Cant do at Jb kedron, they rejected it, talk with manager, still cant accept it, they’re pain

    • +2

What exactly did JB Kedron reject? The HIM cards or the number of cards?

    • Can’t do what? Did you try to buy stuff there (with $500 or more TCN gift cards)? Or convert to JB gift cards?

      • I tried to buy more than $500 with gift card. The cashier looks me like shit and like i’m trying to steal something. Dont even bother to help me and call manager with the disgraced voice towards me. Manager is not good either, play some dumb reason and even i called earlier they still reject it

        • -1

No reason why you couldn’t pay for a $750 item with $500 TCN gift cards and pay the $250 however you want. Unless you meant you wanted to use all $750 worth of TCN gift cards on it then yes there’s a limit of $500 gift cards per transaction.

          • @dreamykitten: I called before and they said i can use whatever i want. U’re clearly stating the fact that everyone know, doesnt help it at all mate. If staff is more sympathetic and said i’m sorry bla bla it could have been a better experience, but no they talked with me like i’m stealing something

  • +8

Was able to buy 26 $50 gift cards at 6 30 this morning from Coles. Then went to JB and was able to use all of them in a single transaction

    https://imgur.com/XxhVxDs

    • Did you have them swipe 26 cards? Must have been fun! Good work though!

      • +1

Yeah I had to scratch the pin off the back and swipe it 26 times and each time put the pin in. Only took about 5-10 mins.

        • Did you need to register through the TCN website for each card? or no need?

    • Yes
Should do early before the news spread

    • How can we upload a receipt?

  • I got an email from TCN saying to go back into the store and they will reload the money. Spoke to the manager at the Coles I got them from (St Marys) and he confirmed to come back to get the money loaded. I asked if they have pulled them from the shelves and he said yes.

    • +1

Were your cards declined in the first instance? I had raised my issue with Coles CC as well as TCN via fb messenger directly and am yet to receive any written correspondence from either of them besides the initial receivership of details

      • yes my cards where declined, checked 2 only and say active but zero balance (purchased at 7:46am)

        • Same Coles refunded the entire lot I purchased. What a joke

          • @BilboBargains: refunded or loaded the cards for you??

            • @BMX221: I purchased $1500 of him cards @ 8:59am Qld time .. all activated.
Went to in JB hi-fi and they didn't work we manually checked two cards and they showed 0 balance.
Went back to Coles they called the hierarchy and was informed to refund me until the situation was corrected and then they would resell me the cards.

              • @BilboBargains: You just needed to be patient. They would have been loaded eventually. Mine were, as were others.

                • @iNeed2Pee: I was patient lol . I waited at JB hi-fi for 2 hours, they were trying to work out why mine wouldn't work. JB hi-fi told me the cards should work as others had used them earlier that morning. They then told me to go back to Coles as something wasn't right as the balance showed 0, so I did. And spent another 1.5 hours at Coles service desk with the manager.

                  • @BilboBargains: Hmm, weird. The people at JB did tell me that between a certain time in the morning everything wasnt working. Maybe it was that time, when the systems were failing. Did you buy them again?

                    • @iNeed2Pee: No, the manager was informed from higher up to remove there current stock and for me to wait for verification from the manager as to when it is working again and I can come back and purchase them again.

        • So did it all go thought again ok? Going to be heading out soon and if it yours worked out ok after the re-load then ill give it a shot too

    • Did you speak with Leanne?

If not, who was your contact? I am going to speak with them as has same issue.

      • No it was a male manager didn't get his name sorry, but he was across it.

    • That's a great news!
Do you mean you got declined on activations when purchasing card and you have got confirmation that you will need to reload balance on your local coles store, is that correct?

      • yep that is what the email from TCN said, and called my store and they said they ill reload. Cannot do it until tonight but will update once done.

    • I just did this. Back to the store they "refund" the Declined ones and then "resell" them so that they can re-try the activation. For both of my cards the new receipt shows as approved (was declined on the original). [edit] still $0 balance but it has only been 30mins.

My store they did it all in the background rather than refund to my card then repurchase on my card, only took a couple of mins once they found the instructions.

YMMV as it seems it was just instructions written in a book under the counter.

  • +4

    Hi all

My 11am purchase has just had all the cards update their balance

    YAY!

    • +1

Yay! Thanks for putting the time in, gives everyone a rough idea of how long we should wait :)

      • some TCN human must be doing all this manually at the back end - so i am guessing the time wait will be variable.

  • Do we select savings or credit at the counter?

    • savings

    • Savings

    • Savings then put pin in

    • -6

is this a troll question? to answer seriously, that is your bank card asking do you want it out of your savings or do you want it piled up on top of the rest of your credit.

edit: maybe i shot my mouth off

I thought the question was how to you pay for the gift card, when the question was about using the gift card to buy something, which is where you put in Savings and the PIN on the TCN Card

  • Has anyone tried buying a value of $500 with the TCN cards and then refund for the JB card?

    • +1

I am thinking the same thing

  • Wonder if these participating stores like JB are subsidising or paying fee to TCN to be part of this discount offer. If not why would JB limit the number of cards used since they are getting full face value. If anything they should be encouraging it cause they’re getting a sales bonanza

    • Good strategy by them. I saw a guy go ok.. then preceded to browse more products to eat up the massive pile he had.. so yes that made them a lot more that just face value of cards

  • +1

Mine are activated. All systems are a go.

    • +2

      what time did you buy

      • Apologies, don't know how i missed that.
Purchased at around 11:10 activated by like 2pm

    • Yes interested in purchase time too

  • +4

Just used 15 cards at JB watergardens

    No issues

    • +2

good to hear! If JB start putting on a 5 card limit they will end up with more admin (i.e.people returning $500 items for JB cards)

      • Yep they can't stop you returning an item for change of mind right?

  • so round 2 anyone?

    • you reckon they'll restock for tmr?

      • +1

Went coles in morning around 7am gone in mins. Then went coles around 1pm, restocked, have few left at that time

    • or ymean, go back in store again. None of my local ones have stock anymore!

  • Is it worth trying to find cards anymore? If some were pulled from the shelves as they weren't activating I guess they will put them back eventually. Would they even get more stock seeing as the promo runs until 01/12

    • +2

Yes verified from hierarchy at Coles head office.they will be getting more stock in and restocking the shelves continually while the sale is on.

If it actually happens only time will tell..

      • Good to know cheers

  • +1

Bought $500 worth at around 11:45AM from a Coles in Melbourne. They were all approved successfully during purchase, confirmed by receipts. TCN website showing that the cards are active, but an available balance of $0.

TCN not answering their phones - diverting straight to mail.

    • Wife brought some kids card around 11 Qld time. Still 0

      • +1

Update - 3.5 hours later, some of my cards are now showing a balance

        • Yes, they are slowly show up. So do not too worry guys.

  • +2

I just saw on news.com.au they've done a "hack" article saying you can save 15% off buying him her gift cards, so I assume whatever stock is left (which people from OzB have not bought lol) will be picked up quickly by the rest of the public..

    • +2

And more people will get angry their cards with 0 balance. More call to tcn and coles. More complaints. …..

  • so what's the latest situation on gift cards that were sold but have zero balances?
Do we wait it out, or ring coles/TCN and try and get them reloaded?

    • Got confirmation from local coles store, saying they can 'sort it out' if I came back to store. You can give it a try.

      • Or you could just wait. It took close to 4 hours for the 4x $50 HER cards the wife bought to activate, showed with a 0 balance until they did.

        • ok confirming that mine got loaded after about 4 hours too.
          phew.

  • Just bought 5 kids card, hoping they can work in jbhifi, planning buy Logitech super light pro x,but my card still shows 0 balance but active.from Canberra around 2hours ago

    • If it still shows 0, I don't think it will work.

      • Yeah, but I can wait till December when they release the new mice,or should I go to coles tell them to refund me?

        • Just wait. It took a few hours for it to change from $0 on my cards

        • First they won't refund if it has been approved(activated). Second, you do not need to, just wait for them to load the money. Wait for 2-5 hours.

  • +1

ok. my $500 her card was up and running at 10am ,purchased at 8:50am. managed to use them to purchased $500 jb giftcard at jb store.

$1000 Her and Him card puchased at 10:55am. active but no money, with approved on invoice, just got up and running at 2pm. so around 3 hours loading time.

$250 Her card purchased at 12pm, still no go atm, but nit 3 hours yet.

    • I thought you can’t use them to buy JB gift cards? This whole thing is all over the place.

      • T and C says you cannot. and cannot purchase over $500, but people are doing it all over in jb store, provide theia balance is up and running:)

  • +7

    So.
$500 giftcard through the Telstra deal.
    10% off Macbooks.
    15% off Giftcards.

👌 I need to take a pee after all of this.

    • +3

Get a urinary catheter with all those gift cards now

      • Just got a macbook pro.
In all it cost me $1617 for the 512gb and 8gb Ram.

So about $670 off the retail using the 10% off macs, Telstra gift card (factoring in my previous contract with optus) and the 15% off Him and her gift cards today.

    • Is $500 giftcard through the Telstra plan a deal? Can we just cancel the plan after I got the $500 gift card?

      • You'd pay termination costs

  • Has anyone come across a coles that didn't have plenty left?

    • Coles northland still have a bunch of HIM $50 and HER $100

    • Went to coles at lunchtime in Moonee Ponds (Melb) and were completely sold out of $100 gift cards. Only thing left were $50 teen cards so purchased 5 of them.

Not worth it, since I wanted a mac mini which are completely out of stock in store, now I need to go to JB to buy a JB voucher with these vouchers, then come home and order it online.

  • +8

To summarise: too much effort needed for saving $75 (JB $500 limit )

    • +1

      Yep. Buyer's regret over here.

      • They’re banking (literally) on many of these being unused

        • Jb didn't have a limit where I went.

        • Three year expiry is kind of ok

    • +9

Yeah, $75 made me : 2x back to coles because HIM error and the manager not there in morning plus another trip to JB
      petrol+tyre+break pads+oil+kms+etc = $75 :(
But the excitement, experience and most importantly part of ozbargain activities = priceless :)

  • Bought 2x $60 Nintendo eshop cards at a Coles in SA about 10am this morning, all good, added them to my Nintendo 'ewallet' just now. Thanks OP!

  • used 7 ( $100 ) cards at JB Nourlunga SA and no mention of limits

  • +3

This deal has another 5 days.. Planning to buy Macbook pro with 10% off deal, Is it worth to wait to nearby coles load the new TCG cards possibly coming days? Not sure how long JB will have 10% off on Macs..

    • +1

Called JB and this 10% off is till 1st Dec. But sounds like most stores have very limited stocks.

  • +24

Side note, just got back from Coles and managed to get a couple of $50 cards and need to give a shout out to the vigilant staff member in the self check-out area for actually asking and checking that I was buying the cards for my own use and trying to inform me of scammers. Some might find it annoying or be condecending about it because they think they're smart enough not to fall for it, but while cleaning out nan's place after she passed away, it was heartbreaking to find over 40 $100 iTunes gift cards that we never knew she bought from the local 7/11. Screw the person who didn't think it weird and to casually ask why a little 85 year old lady was buying so many iTunes cards.

    • +1

Couldn't agree more! Such a sad story I hear way to much these days… happy to hear coles went the extra mile, one day that person might save have an elderly person thousands by asking that very question!

    • Just had this as well. Then she informed the entire line about scams.
Thankful for people like that :-)

  • I bought some 'HIM' cards only which one I have activated, or attempted to as I still have the $0 balance problem like others. I noticed the card said 36 months expiry.

Does anyone know if I have to register all my cards now or can I wait until anytime before the 36 months?
