15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

I reckon there is a congestion on their system.

    • once activated at checkout, the 36 months clock starts, not when you register online

    • I bought some @11:00 and just checked, they are now active and showing correct balance.

  • Can anyone confirm if it's possible to convert physical TCN GC to digital GC on JBs website? And if so what the process is for doing this?

    • You can't

  • Anyone had JB enforce the $500 limit?

  • -4

I think I found a loophole to the not enough cards issue

    • +3

      Don't leave us hanging

    • spills

    • How do you keep an idiot in suspense?

    • +8

I think he fell down the loophole

    • Loopholes mentioned on this website get closed very quickly…and will no longer be available in the future.

What’s the record for number of comments on any ozbargain post?

    • +2

That would have been the Bunnings Drone thread of last year.

      • catching it - just checked and it was 2300 comments we at over 1500 here and this may have days to run. Im still bummed I missed that Drone deal.

  • Success with 13 $100 gift cards at JB Belmont WA

      Borat voice "Great Success"

  • I purchased a soundbar and tv from jb's they had to get the managers approval as the store had print out with a picture of the gift cards saying to limit it to $500. I also tried to purchase a jb hifi gift card but was told i couldnt. How many of you are getting around this? Maybe just the luck of the person serving you?

    • +2

manager allowed me to use 32 gift cards as i was in earlier this morning before this rule was in place. Left and came back as they didnt have stock of the original model i wanted.

    • Yes I guess some staff just don't aware of the gift card policies

  • +1

Perth CBD Coles wouldn’t do the deal, saying as it’s a central CBD store they’re not doing the weekend catalogue deal which they say this is one of.

    • Yes that is normal for that store. Raine square coles is in the fine print in the catalogues.

    • Had the same thing with Coles CBD @ brisbane.

    • "borrow" card from stores ,purchase at another store that participates?

      • As I have said before, that's theft. Even if it has no value. Surely ozbargainers aren't desperate enough to resort to that these days?

        • +1

Surely not :) went to few Coles. All sold out. Just ended up buying some Google credit. Tons left.

          • @starburstyellow: Lol judging by some of the comments in this thread it wouldn't surprise me if someone did.

  • My experience with JB today is that the 3 JB's in the greater Wollongong area all said the limit was $500 with exceptions when I called. I called Campbelltown in Western Sydney and they said there was no limit and will accept as many gift cards as you have but you have to show your ID if the gift cards are over $500… so that's who got my business today

  • +2

The lady who served me was very nice.
I apologised profusely about having the gift cards, she was happy they were $100 ones as someone had gone in and purchased items using $30 giftcards and that was killing the eftpos machine.

  • Joining the club - bought cards 1120, went to pay with cards at JB counter 1430 - still not activated…. man! Prob an activation backlog? Shoulda checked balance before I went. Doh

  • 1225: I purchased 5 x $100 gifts cards (3 x Him, 2 x Her).
1527: I have only registered one Him and one Her card and it's still showing zero balance.

    • They will load. Just give it some more time

    • +1

Do you need to manually register them yourself to get the value loaded? Thought this was automatic once Coles register scans it through

      • This is also what I assumed

        • I don't think you need to register for the value to be loaded. It's only in case you lose or misplace the card, then notifiy TCN and they'll cancel the existing card and send a new card out with the remaining balance.

          • @Uncaged: How do you notify them though? Their contact number just dials out.

  • do all restaurants and cafes accept the restaurant card if they have EFTPOS machine? The directory on their website doesn't work?
Also does RSL fall under pub card or restaurant card?

    • +1

So far I’ve had no problems using it even at Maccas and I thought fast food was excluded.

      • is that the restaurant card for maccas? I want to buy more but just worried that it will have exclusions.

        • +1

Yes the restaurant card, loaded on my iPhone wallet app.

          • @dreamykitten: Is that restaurant card you are referring to a digital restaurant card or physical one?

          • @dreamykitten: sweet!!! so you can use it anywhere if it's a restaurant/cafe? what about inside an RSL?

            • +1

@easoweno: I’ve used it at cafes and restaurants and things like boba tea shops and Maccas and Nando’s. No problems so far. I would think RSLs would also work.

              • @dreamykitten: is it like a digital card you can use? i went into coles had at a look at the physical card and i didnt know how the card would work. it has the card code and pin do you enter that in the EFTPOS machine?

                • +2

@smeng: just swipe like eftpos card choose sav then enter pin

                  • +1

@roosterman: i didnt see a black stripe on the actual physical restaurant card? unless i am totally blind, can you confirm thanks.

i was going to buy a card and use it to buy lunch today from the food court but i was worried i would look like a fool

                    • @smeng: Pretty sure there’s a magnetic stripe. That’s how I use my physical Ultimate Eats card. Swipe at the EFTPOS machine.

                    • @smeng: can confirm there's a magnetic strip as the staff at jb were swiping it against the eftpos machine.

    • Would like to know as well considering i just bought $500 worth

    • +1

Update: The restaurant card even worked at vending machines.

  • So, I bought some 8x HIM CARDS, how do I check the balance? I want to buy something off jbhifi

    • +7

whats the card number and pin? I can check for you now.

      • dont answer that

      • Good one!

      • Wait, let me pay off my tax with all the Google play cards first and I'll give you the info of this one

  • Anyone bought any this afternoon? Activation issues sorted?

    • Bought 1:45pm, Active Balance $0 as of now

      • Bought 5 at 12 still showing $0 active

    • Yes. But now JB only accepting $500

      • +1

Item i have on hold is $499, so perfect for me :)

    • Bought 11.45am, all 10 activated at 4.10pm so the load time has blew out to about 4.5 hours, some people in the morning were having theirs loaded in bout 3 hours

    • bought 12pm, activated by 4pm

  • +1

Just got back from JB. Was able to use 30 Him/Her/Teen/Kid gift cards. The staff was fine about it, tried to go when it was less busy. Took about 10 minutes put through all the cards.

Edit: I checked the balance on all the cards before going.

    • Good stuff, how long before your balance was updated?, a few hours? And which JB was this? Thanks

      • +1

I checked around 1pm and the latest purchase was around 10:30am. Went to JB Maribyrnong. They had quite a few staff on due to Black Friday sales, probably twice as many as usual.

    • 30 cards, that must be above 500 right, it worked?
,was thinking iphone 11, but only got 5x100 =$500 Him cards,+ 100 card, ws under impression i can only use 500 of HIM card

      • At this stage it really just depends on the checkout person and the JB store. Seems like some let you do it some don’t.

      • Yeah, they are just eftpos cards. There doesn't seem to be a system limitation, just need to find someone that will let you put it through.

  • Bought 5 X $100 @ 11:56 @ 15:40 activated but no balance….grrrrrrr

(Was only checking one of the cards, now checking 2)

    Waiting….waiting….

Thinking I just should have paid full Black Friday price and f*&k the additional 15%

In fact if I was guarnateed a refund from Coles, probably would…..

  • Coles South Perth aren’t even selling any gift cards included in the promotion. They say there’s an issue activating them and advise to go back tomorrow.

  • What's the best method to check card balance in Android?
I see that they have TCN app but only for iPhone

    • It's on android

      • Thanks, the issue was with my Google account (under Argentina address due to the google family membership). Once I moved to AU account I can find it just fine

    • +1

Which can't even send me an SMS verification code……(Android)

      • Yea, no SMS received it as yet…strange…unless their SMS server hammered too

      • no sms verification on ios as well

  • +3

Bought $1500 worth from Coles; mainly $50 denominations as my local only had a few $100’s left. Store manager was a legend and just had me loop around each time with 5. Didn’t have any issues with activation.

Then off to JB, first 2 stores struck out with hard limit of 5 per transaction - even mentioned buying and returning stuff - both times the managers said they would not return onto JB gift cards, but would have me escalate with TCN for a refund.

On my third JB, they were legends and let me put through the lot in one go. All depends on who you get! Good luck!

    • which store was that?

      • Yes, please let us know. I would really appreciate it if you could tell which stores in Sydney are good to work with because of all the weeks for this promo to be run on, its come when I'm super crunched at work and sadly dont have much time to go travelling around.

        • +1

Chatswood. You need to try and get them when it’s quiet - which was tough today! Fortunately I had some spare time to wait for the right moment.

        • +1

I just went to Oatley, plenty in stock but no Restaurant or Pub versions

    • +2

      dedicated effort - kudos!

    • -3

The store manager wasn’t a legend then was he. As he basically let you rinse the store dry of cards so nobody else got a look in

      • In my position, yes, he was a legend. Salty much?

        • To be honest my times worth far more than traipsing round stores to try and get some extra money off. But I still think it’s a dick move to flaunt the rules abs boast about it, such that others miss out

  • Do you have to activate/register the cards online before using them at JB?

    • Yes, cards need to be activated before use, which is where the issue is. Most cards appear to take hours to be activated after registration.

    • +2

You don't, Coles does. It is meant to happen automatically during purchase.

You should see on the receipt for each gift card it says approved, then it is taking a couple of hours for the funds to load.

      • Yes coles does that.. you can check online for balance.. it doesnt have option to activate..
