15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

  • I'm late to the party.

So what's happening? The cards aren't activating properly?

Is it worth my time going to local Coles?

    • +5

too much trouble for too little gain

      • Sounding like it after now having read a few comments.

Was simply going to buy $750 worth for when the Xbox is back in stock next year. Don't think this is worth the $112.50.

        • Especially as you may not be able to use all $750 in one transaction at JB, and may not be able to buy over $500 at coles.

    • Dont go for such cards until all issues fixed for my opinion.

    • I think the issue is that, because of the high rate that the cards are being sold, the TCN activation and/or balance loading system(s) are overloaded. Hence the issues where cards are failing to activate at the checkout or are taking some time to show a valid balance following successful activation.

I got caught with the latter - cards didn't work at JB even though they'd activated at Coles. They're now showing a valid balance on the TCN balance checker, some hours after I purchased them.

At least they're not as bad as Ticketek gift cards which take 48 hours to activate…

      • Yeah as soon as I saw the activation msg on the coles screen, I knew it wouldn't be instant. (I was hopeful) but wasn't surprised.

  • +1

I bought the wrong gift cards. JB isn’t in it now I have $500 worth of gift cards. What can I do to return them?

    • +2

nice christmas present for your loved one

    • +4

Did you not notice when you were charged full price for them?

      • I got the discount for him cards but it doesn't have jb on it. Did I mess up? Only difference other than no jb logo is that the letter is not shiny compared to the one online

      • +2

Yes that confused me for a while. There appears to be the ultimategiftcardnetwork ones (has the logos of the 6 "supported" companies on the front) which were on the shelf, and then thecardnetwork ones (only has HIM/HER/TEEN on the front).

At 12:00pm I was zapping past a Coles on the way home , dropped in, asked at the service desk if they had sorted out the problems and was advised that they had. The Giftcardnetworks cards weren't on the shelf but rather behind the service desk. The front end controller said they've probably missed out on $10000s of missed sales because of the screwup in her opinion.

I've got $500 of (correct) cards waiting to go to JBHiFi to get a Chrome Flex 5 but the cards are still showing zero balance (receipt shows all approved)

Sitting in the local library for the next couple of hours working and checking the balance periodically. :) Luckily the guy a JB has put aside a unit for me, so if it doesn't happen today hopefully tomorrow.

Problem is with all the mucking around and worrying and time, should have probably just bought at full price. The 15% probably doesn't cover my real time, but at least I feel like I'm getting a bargain. :)

        • So you have ones with jb printed on them? I noticed that the HIM cards I bought in addition to not having the jb hifi logo have card number that are 19 digits long meaning they cannot be entered in when checking out online as there is only space for 18 digits on jb hifi online.

          • @quill: @quill

            Pic of packaging here :

The Ultimate Him card was just the gift card on a cardboard backing with the 6 company logos on the card itself (including I think Supercheap Auto)

    • They "might" work : https://thecardnetwork.com.au/pages/the-him-card

The actual page lists more Stores than are actually on the card.
Also the back of the card says to check the website to see a full list of participating retailers and locations.
Also Valid at (list of stores on the card)… and more leading retailers.

    How to request the refund?

  • +1

Bought 15x100 ine one go at coles no issues

    • and yet my local Coles ( grr ) forced me to 4 maximum even not serving me on reentry

      • ask reasons they should serve. there is limit on self checkout but not on cashier desk. I had the 4 limit when I was trying to self checkout

  • -1

Found some HOME gift card showing the JB logo on it, does that work with discount?

    • No. Read the post.

    • Nope HOME not included in the 15%

  • -1

People should be posting times. I purchased 5 x $100 her cards at 7am - all have the balance no issues

I bought another 5 at 11:16am - all approved but showing zero balance

So delay is at least 2 hours roughly

    • I purchased 5 Restaurant cards at 11:15am, all approved but showing zero balance.

    • i purchased 5 her cards at 955aest, approved with zero balance.

    • Declined on activation at 7am, checking balance showing $0 with status 'active'

Hoping anyone can update if they got balance loaded, no matter activations are 'approved' or 'declined'.

    • GL getting 5 at 11am lol .
Main thing is activation working and those with the cards can start buying them .
Activation takes no longer than 2 hrs if purchased correctly away from the error zone .

    • I got 4 at 7:46am only check 2 but still not showing a balance.

    • Paid 11:56, all approved, still showing zero balance at 13:20

    • Her Cards are now active for me

    • you forget that Aus has different timezones? better include your timezone too. :D

      • sorry yes all AEDT for me

    • confirm mine are loaded now, 3 hours after the purchase.

  • +1

    Still showing $0.00

  • Tried at Logan central Coles, lots $50 cards left however the self check out only allowed 3 cards, asked the staff and manually scanned two more but didn't count, the system only charged 3 and activated 3 cards. Registered online and pending balance to get loaded…

  • Guys, I caught a TCN staff in two coles in my area this morning, she is collecting all him her and kids cards from my local coles. I think the whole sales was a show(scam)!. The cheapest advertising event!!! I took some photos and videos of her in two different coles in Sydney area.

    • +2

Wow legit? How do you know she’s TCN staff not Coles staff?

      • -1

I personally asked her because I saw her grabbing a big bag of tons of him her kids gift cards, I tried to stop her buying bulks by explaining to her it is 5 maximum per person. She told me she is from TCN and she was wearing a tag of visitor given from Coles.

        • -4

I tried to stop her buying bulks by explaining to her it is 5 maximum per person

Nope 5 max with as many transaction as you please ( can get away with lol ) and your not staff keep your nose out of other people biz .

        • Same in Adelaide (rundlemall coles). Two TCN staff with visitor tags counting the cards but I am not sure if they were doing something doggy.

          • @RimofLeo: Aha, their tiny secret tricks. Put 100 cards out for promotion, we ( general customer bought 30 with limits, they internally bought 70 off the limits. Big win for their advertising events.

        • There was a lady with a visitor tag at my local Coles around 1130am when I visited but unsure if she is a staff from TCN as @Tonyz123 claimed. There is a big trolley next to her with many different types of gift card and I was asking her if there's still some Him/Her gift card available (as I can see it's in the trolley). She told me they are pulling it off the shelf 'for now' because the money isn't loading onto the card. I asked her if it will be put back on the shelf once the system issue gets resolved and she said yes but unsure when that will happen. Will pay a visit again this evening to try my luck.

    • It can't be a scam if some are getting through and others are not.

      "Pitch fork sharpening"

    • +1

      You saw Broden lol :)

    • As if mate

She gonna fly all over Australia? Or is there staff in each city doing it?

      • Same in Adelaide. But I doubt if they were collecting the cards or doing something else. Hard to tell.

  • Do you get flybuy points buying these? Thanks.

    • -2

      no

    • Yes

    • I asked the checkout person while purchasing and they said 'yes' so I scanned my card accordingly.

  • For those in Brisbane, this discount does not apply at Coles in Queens Plaza or Myer Centre (Coles Central and Coles Express). Cards will scan at full price.

    • They didn't even have any stock when i checked QP at 11, are you sure you didn't try checking the other cards that have similar words?

      • They had the ultimate kids, him and her cards. Only $50 denominations. I tried the kids ones because they had the JB logo on them but when they scanned at $50ea that's when the staff member advised they're not doing the discount at those two stores.

        • I think you've got the wrong one, discount doesn't apply to 'Ultimate' range.

          • @lanriver: Ah, right you are. They only had those ones - the ones on special are from a totally different company. Clearly (as happychild mentions below) all the old/cheap ones are gone - regardless of whether the city stores do the discount!

        • Yeah wrong cards, there's like 3 different types all with HIM and HER on the front. The discounted ones are all gone though

  • Coles Beechboro (WA) has plenty left 20+ of $100 and $50 Him/Her, and Nintendo cards, no signage of the 15% off but will show at checkout. https://i.imgur.com/8aCBKSC.jpg

    • Did they have jb hifi on them?

      • Yeah they also had quite a few JB Hi Fi cards

  • Sydney CBD World Square still has a few Him/Her/Teen/Kids gift cards (not sure if they activate), as well as Nintendo $60 ones (about 20-30 cards left). They are all at the front counter. I bought 2 of the Nintendo ones, no problems with transaction, will try to activate them later.

  • I just wanted to get $105 worth of Nintendo eshop cards. Should I anticipate problems? It seems the vast majority of feedback here is about the pronoun cards.

    • +1

I had no issues whatsoever getting the Nintendo cards.

      • Thanks.

  • +1

Not sure who to blame here:
    - Coles run promotions on HIM/HER gift cards, but card not discount at checkout. (blame Coles?)
    - Card activate but show zero balance. (blame TCN?)
    - Card used in JB have limitation, 5 cards.

    Too much hassle.

  • Just back from Coles Slutters (locals will know that as Lutwyche Brisbane) bought 18 X $50 HIM/HER cards - they said 5 max per txn, but sold them all to me through 4 separate tills.

STILL A BUNCH THERE at least 30/40.

Hoping I can use all cards in one go at JB to buy iPad Air 64GB $899.

Plus i got a bunch of Flybuy points for what they are hopelessly worth.

  • Anyone tried the The Restaurant Card on UberEats / Menulog?

    • +1

Yep - have tried at Menulog, works fine!

  • Just put through 10 x $50 Kids cards and 2 x $100 Him cards on a Iphone 12 at JB Preston with the $800 off deal as well. Staff there were great given had to swipe and put pin in 12 times. Cards were bought at 6am and then about 10am, transaction done at JB at 12:45

  • Can anyone confirm if the him/her cards have 18 or 19 digit card numbers. I think it could be another indicator of whether the gift cards will work at jb hi fi as you cannot pay with 19 catd numbers, at least online.

    • +1

      19

  • Ok latest update
JB hifi already printed tcn t&c amd put on POS
I only can use 500 for iphone as we knew already

    • As expected, it’s a matter of time before someone at JB takes a look at TCN’s T&Cs and decides to enforce them.

      • Its not a matter of them looking at tcn. There was a direct msg from jb management to enforce the $500 limit.. whether it originated from tcn is another thing. End result is just hope you get a young person who doesnt care as its not system locked as i saw a guy nearly get away with a massive amount till lady serving me rained on his parade. Hope the young kid serving doesnt get in trouble for nearly letting happen

    • Could you elaborate on the $500 limit on the purchase of an iphone? I did a search on this and cant find anything

      • +1

Theres a $500 limit of these cards in 1 transaction for jb

        • Ahhh right. I thought he mean a $500 gc of any kind on any Apple product.

Ill try my luck again when this cools down

  • Managed to activate the Him and restaurant card at Northland coles

    • +1

Crap! upon paying H&M, it says $0 balance

  • Hmm, going to have trouble buying 4k of him/her/kids/teens cards.

  • are you guys exchanging your tcn cards for 1 jb giftcard or you already know what you want and going in to buy your item.

    • I also want to know this. My partner and I bought $1000 worth (10x$100) for a samsung tablet, went there before JB enforced the T&C (but cards had no balance) but now worried when I go back once the balance on my card is ready they will say no. I guess I can pay $500 him/her cards and $500 JB card if I can exchange them?

      • +1

No you can't exchange TCN cards for JB HIFI cards. "Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards issued by JB HiFi"

    • Can't exchange these for JB gc. Even if you purchase anything and there's a balance, they put it back on the TCN card.
ACCC rules for gc are they must have a validity of 3 years.
So, the real risk is whether TCN will become insolvent within that time.

      • thought people were talking about buying something then refunding which jb will put it on one of their giftcards

  • FYI, Coles Chadstone sold out but Coles Oakleigh has about a dozen $50 Him cards left.

  • +4

This is how backwards Coles is. I bought 5 and my partner bought 5. Two different checkouts, and they had the audacity to say to her, we walked in together so she is not allowed….

They used the baby formula precedent on her…..she got her cards dont you worry. Some hot shot thinking he owns the store.

    • +1

      lousy!

    • +1

That’s ridiculous. It clearly says per person. Just curious how did it get resolved?

      • +1

        She's a barrister by trade.

Went on the lines of…."I don't think so". Im getting these cards. 🤣

    • +1

That's the normal attitude with Coles. They dont have the balls to say it to someone who can threaten them

    • +1

I was treated the same but it was between another lady and me and I don’t even know that lady , they show me the attitude . I m asking the lady about the restaurant card . I m just furious and not happy . Coles is being ridiculous, It’s just a giftcard and I m only buying 5 with my husband when technically I can buy 10.

      • +1

yes they know they can abuse ozbers..make sure you write a lengthy complaint online so the store manager will be busy writing reports…haha

        • I called him. He wasn't impressed thats for sure.

    • Same thing happened to me as well..

      • i was getting the same… there was another couple in front and they assumed we were a family and wanted to hold up the payment checkout.

    • Lol. Why did they bring up baby formula? Are you Asian. Shoulda played the race card
