  • Damn wish the 6S Pro was this price

    • Check out the Kogan 20% off Garmin offer. I got the Fenix 6S Saphire for $717 delivered. Not as good as the Bupa deal a few weeks ago but only $18 more expensive then this offer. Not bad considering!!

      • Will check it out thank you!

So I guess a little feed back for those on the fence from someone thats never had a smart watch before

    1. I picked mine up from my loacl JB, unfortunately they didnt have any dummy models to try on so kinda went in blind and I don't have the thickest wrist either, anyway fits great for me even on my skinnier wrist actually quite suprising for a 51mm watch very confortable (i'm 6'1) and it feels really comfortable without being heavy, great strap as well.

    2. Initial setup was a breeze, logged into my garmin app setup took all of 30 seconds if that.

    3. Brightness was a bit low so went in and turned that up all the way and looks great.

    4. great selection of preset watch faces in built to the watch.

    5. Love the app interagration better than apples mess of apps that appear like you just spilled your cereal over the screen and personally I hate touch screen watches anyway just grease up from finger oil.

    6. navigation through the menues via the buttons on the side alone is brillant honestly and easy to navigate with a heap of great apps on board. and the size of the screen is awesome at 51mm so easy to see and read what your doing.

I'ts on the charger now so will play with more shortyly once charged, but first impressions for $699 this thing (to me anyway) is honestly a steal, I guess time will tell but judging from the amount of people in here an on various other forums saying how happy they were with their x5 and the guys who upgraded to the X6 I'm sure this watch will last many years but so far so far for the price damn its good and build like a tank without a weight and looks great as well.

      i concur.

      exactly the same for me!

now to convince the misses that Im wearing a cheaper forerunner model

Here are some thoughts from a former Apple Watch user and now using this with my Android (just a few hours of usage so far).
      * Notifications are awesome, the text is large and readable without having to squint. I can even dismiss, archive, delete right from the notification.
      * Garmin Pay requires typing in the PIN each time, it was simpler with the Apple Watch where the PIN was entered only once when you put it on your wrist.
      * Just like all the reviews that said this I can now confirm that although its big it somehow doesn't feel too heavy. Maybe the larger size helps with distributing the weight.

    • Geez you are making it hard to resist mate haha. Thanks for the write up.

  • What do people think about it's heart rate monitoring? I've read that it was way off during high intensity activities but I feel that even the resting heart rate is a lot lower than it really is (without having taken a manual measurement). I think my Apple Watch 3 was a lot closer to the truth.

EDIT: Also already finding bugs - I've set the measurements to metric but it's showing the temperature in Fahrenheit and altitude in feet? That's pretty useless! Also Garmin Pay set up takes a few minutes to give me a "set up failed" message with no explanation. Have tried this a few times.

    • +1

no issues on mine, I just hooked it up direct to my pc now as well to download all the newest map updates.

Also I think you can change the temp and altitude values

      • +1

Thanks - had another go at finding the settings for weather and elevation and this time was able to change it on the watch.

The data itself is "interesting" though - my Google smart display is showing 28 degrees and sunny outside, the BOM app is showing 26 and sunny but the Fenix says it's 24 and party cloudy? The sky is as blue as can be where I am at the moment, so Garmin is definitely wrong.

        • +1

hook it up to your pc and download the pc app from garmin and let it do all of its software updates, then download all the new watch faces etc, mine is running like a dream after all the updates etc.

  • Hmm can’t decide. I have a Fenix 5 which was a good send when I was doing triathlons and Ironmans. Injuries have me off training for now but hoping to have surgery in next few months and be back in the game early next year.

So things that put me off are size of 6X (vs my 5) and the fact there will be a 6 Plus or 7 no doubt next year.

But damn the price is good! (Plus I got discounted JB gift cards!)

    Help me decide!!

    • +1

The price is too good to pass up! You'd be looking at full price for the 7 at ~$1400. So my thoughts are you should pull the trigger.

      • Hah. That’s kinda where my heads at! And the 6X is a significant improvement over the 5. If I had a 5 Plus it would be a tougher call

        • What about the 6pro for $674?
I took my 6 back due to compass issue and upgraded to the pro and it’s a great watch. You would notice a big difference in the screen size over the 5 without the watch being any bigger.

          • @dan76n: If it were the sapphire I'd jump at it

But also I have JB vouchers :)

    • +3

Hi, I had the fenix 5 plus version and just picked this up. I'm very happy I did. It's about the same thickness, while being the bigger unit. Was worried about the size, but it feels great compared to the 5.

It's honestly worth the upgrade for the screen alone…. Then there's the battery, music ( if you have the fenix 5 )and the better HR monitor. Also the maps seem a lot snappier. I can actually use this to navigate now, before it was a hassle.

      Anyways, just my 2 cents….

  • This or the Samsung Galaxy watch 3???

    • +1

100% this, I use a note 20 and the garmin has been been awesome just picked it up today.

There’s so much I could say but if i had to do it again I’d still get the garmin especiallly for this price and for what your getting with dlc coating and sapphire ctystal glass and 3 weeks of battery life without having to charge every day, oh and it’s 100m water resist, I could keep going.

  • +6

    Just another update,

    1. Firstly anyone that gets this watch download the garmin express app here for PC after you’ve done the initial setup https://www.garmin.com/en-US/software/express/mac/ and update the software and maps straight away it’s so much quick than over the air via smart phone app and will ensure everything is working correctly the first time.

Now for my first day/night experiences…

I left the watch on all night to track my sleep data I forgot I even had it on, woke up and synced it up with my phone and it tracked my sleep perfectly. Even when I got up to take a leak in the middle of the night because I skulled a heap of water before bed to see how accurate it would be and if it would detect my waking up etc and it did. I’m kind of addicted to this damn thing now with the app and trying to level everything up and beat the results I had the day before it’s kind of like a game but irl.

To go back to the size of the watch as some others here were unsure as this is technically a big watch at 51mm after wearing for a day and during sleep now as someone who doesn’t have huge wrists honestly it’s really comfortable and most of the time I forgot I even had it on and that’s a big deal for me as I very, very rarely ever wear watches.

Going into this I will admit it was a bit hype/fomo based as the price was just so damn good at such a deep discount but I had been considering a smart watch for such a long time but as I never wore watches much due to having a phone that tells me the time etc I never bothered but now I can sincerely say I’m stoked I actually bought this.

Being able to see and respond to messages on my watch + answer or reject calls is great to, I honestly thought this part of all smart watches was a gimmick but after having answered calls and responding to messages all day yesterday with it I don’t know how I lived without this feature before it’s just so convenient especially as my phone is on silent most of the time. Finding out this watch is also water resist to 100m is also quite amazing as I don’t think apple or samsung have this feature to such a resist level so knowing I don’t have to coddle this thing is also great.

The weather reports, the maps, blood ox levels, compass, and all the other stuff on this is actually usefull for me as well and so far has been really accurate even the temperature outside is accurate. This thing even has a damn dog track widget with a compatible dog collar which I’m now gonna look for, for my dog because why the hell not? He’s still a puppy and will help me determine if he’s had the correct amount of exercise etc for his age, I mean seriously at $699 for what this watch does, how it’s built etc is just a damn steal at this point. Honestly Garmin was never even on the map for me in terms of a smart watch as I was always leaning towards samsung as I have a note 20 until I saw this garmin posted here on the forums for such a deep discount. I new garmin made mapping software and devices navs for cars but never thought they made smart watches which funny as it is they do damn well and better than their car nav systems I’ve used lol.

Anyway overall for me this watch is a 8.5/10 I’d give it a full 10 it was slightly smaller so you could wear it a bit more discreetly (not a big deal for me however as I don’t wear suits etc) and if it had an oled screen but that’s just nit picking honestly as I’m so used to looking at them on my samsung and lg oled. Other than that even at full price this watch to me anyway seems worth it for what’s on offer here but at $699 from what I’ve seen this thing sh@ts all over most other smart watches on the market and I highly recommend it to anyone that’s on the fence.

    • +1

Great write up mate thanks, as per my post below I am still on the fence. Galaxy Note user here too (Note 10+)

      • Thanks mate, I don’t want to influence either way these are just my personal experiences with it so far and for a watch that’s not directly tied into Android or Apple eco systems meaning not made specifically to work with either device it works really well with no glitches or issues like you might find if you say tried to pair an apple watch with a samsung phone for example.

It just works flawlessly and the actual watch itself can hold 2000 songs, just on the watch built in memory like what the hell? It even has spotify, amazon music and others if you wanna stream on the go instead of using the watch memory.

For me as I said at $699 I feel like for the first time in a long time I’m actually ripping off a company and getting a good deal, I dunno could be wrong but for me this is a no brainer.

I figure if you’re almost there just do it I highly doubt you’ll regret it.

        • Cheers mate

My local JB is out of stock :(

  • Morning guys

Posted this in the Garmin 6 deal that just popped up https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/584794#comment-9687905

Thought i'd post here too to get opinions.

So am interested in a decent sports watch. I'm using a Fitbit Versa 2 at the moment and even though it supports music there is an issue with the Bluetooth and Airpods where the sound just cuts out all the time (known issue for 2 years, no fix in sight).

So my usage would be running (3 times a week ~4kms for now), light weight work (3 days a week), walking (maybe 1 day a week).

I'm also keen on the 6X price at the moment from JB but wondering if that watch was overkill for me.

So with discounts (Coles Him Cards and Rewards Gateway thru my work), options are:

    Garmin 6 - $450
Garmin 6X Sapphie - $615 (would be $595 if JB allows 7 of the Him Gift cards instead of the max of 5 that some stores are enforcing)

Which one would you guys go?

    • Just been informed in the other deal that the 6 doesn't do music therefore a no go-er

      • 6X does music read my post above i made just now plus my other posts on it I made. Should answer some of your questions and I don’t do half as much exercise as you and I can’t get over just how useful this thing is even for my lazy ass

        • Yeah 6X does music, 6 doesnt.

          • @oxblood8: As in 6x stores music for offline playback where as the 6 doesnt

  • Very low stock at JB now it seems. Amazon have added more stock with free delivery if you're desperate to get one!

    • Store under my building had 5 yesterday - I'm gonna go grab one today :)

    • +1

Yeah got last one at Bris CBD store. Online stock said none but rang to check. So if you’re looking for one closer worth making a call. Might just get a $500 JB gift card 3% cashback) to use with my $150 Teen gift card things.

      • Wow. All 5 gone. Shouldn’t have dithered yesterday!

        • Hit up Amazon?

    Things I've done so far
    * Set up Garmin Pay, done with a simple text verification
    * Paid for the first time at Woolies and it worked swimmingly, no lag like I have on my S20
    * Paired my Anker running headset
    * Linked Spotify and synced playlists and a podcast episode (need to download each podcast manually, guess its not a big deal)
    * Spotify app on Garmin doesn't appear to sync last played history
    * Installed Songplat to sync YouTube music playlists
    * Set up PacePro to move up from 5K to 10K (might even run a marathon just because I can justify the Fenix price to myself 😀)
    * Went for the first run guided by PacePro to benchmark while playing music. LOVED IT!!!

  • +1

I picked one up for $625 (with the him gift cards) yesterday and have been very happy with it so far. I was mainly interested in the topo map and GPS features for hiking/backpacking. I'm looking forward to getting out with it soon and being able to stash my phone in my pack and not have to worry about digging it out for navigation (or anything, really).
After some brief testing the GPS/map seems very fast and accurate so far. The watch is giving me OCD with all of the fiddling and tweaking things, but it's fun learning all of the features and functionality.

Definitely a tad more fully featured than my old Casio Protrek!

JB seems all out of stock now, says “in store only”

    • No stock at mine, procrastinated too long. Snooze you lose lol

  • Got the last one!

Annoyed that I can’t use Amex in Garmin Pay and that I need to use a Mac to update software (oniy have phone and iPad with me)

    • You can use windows pc as well to update thats how I did mine, alternatively it will happen in the background automatically via the app on your phone.

And amex I think is the only card that doesn’t work, I gave away amex ages ago as most places I’d go either never accepted it or charged high fees just use it.

      • Thankfully I haven’t had to use a windows PC for nearly 10 years!

  • +2

Ended up price matching Ryda's 6 pro deal, using the gift cards which made the price at JB's $598 for the 6 pro. Obviously not as good a deal as this but after trying them both on I felt it was a better fit especially if I'm going to wear it for long periods. Each has their pros and cons but I decided comfort was an important factor. So overall pretty happy with my choice.

    • +1

I thought the same as you and also got the 6 pro back on singles day. I was contemplating changing it for the 6X, the mind plays tricks on you between a better "bargain" vs "comfort" for my case during workouts. Similarly ultimately i went for the fitness route as this is the main purpose of this watch for my use case. Enjoy!

  • +1

FYI just spoke to my local store who don't have stock. He said he can order one in for me from another store and will honour the discounted price.

Also for those using the Coles Him giftcards, the $500 limit is removed so you can get this watch for $595

    • Now you can’t procrastinate :)

      • Yeah i know….just gotta go through the circus that is these Coles giftcards lol.

    • +1

Yeah cracking price! I used my AGL rewards cards so mine cost a bit more at $650 but still a stonking deal!! Wearing it now - and have no dramas with the size. Doesn't feel much bigger than my Fenix 5

      • same here mate, got my AGL JB gift card in the last minute and grab the last one from the local store. the E-ink screen is amazing! wish I can have a color E-ink Kindle !

        • +1

I got a Sony SmartWatch 3 six years ago that had the same screen technology with a higher resolution of 320 x 320 - good enough to even use a tiny browser app on it when I didn't want to take out my phone. Was also a lot cheaper than the Garmin. It was a good fitness tracker with GPS and a much better smart watch than the current Fenix 6 series (with Google Assistant support). Looked good in the stainless steel casing too (wasn't as bulletproof as the Garmin though). I had it stolen together with my phone, and got a work iPhone, so bought an Apple Watch.

My reservations about Garmin's sleep tracking have eventuated. Even my original Pebble that I bought for under $100 in 2013 (which, incidentally, also used e-Ink), not to mention the Sony or the Apple Watch (been using the AutoSleep app for 2.5 years), had better sleep tracking than this current Fenix that's many years newer and many times more expensive than the Pebble. Even after updating the software it still thinks that I was asleep while going to the bathroom - I have read that someone else had the same experience. I have been awake since 6 am this morning but it thought that I woke up at 8:17 (I was in bed but never had this issue with AutoSleep). The sleep start time was also off. For a product at this price point that's unforgivable - Garmin can certainly afford to invest in decent movement sensors and sleep-detection algorithms, especially given the number of generations these watches have had.

To me, sleep tracking is one of the key functions of a fitness tracker, so this is a big fail for Gamin. Its countless metrics are of no use unless they are accurate. For example, since sleep this is a key input in the the Body Battery calculation, that makes it useless as well.

All in all, as I don't need maps for my fitness activities, I would say the Apple Watch is a much better fit (no pun intended) for my needs. I do like the Fenix 6X Sapphire in terms of the size and the style (as I've always hated the look of Apple Watch on my wrist) and its ruggedness, since I've somehow always managed to scratch all of my watches (the plastic Pebble being the only exception).
The only thing I like about it is is the style.

          • @elektron: Not sure what you’re talking my 6X tracks my sleep perfectly, even detects and shows when I take a leak in the middle of the night sometimes.

            • @CheetoJesus: Sounds like you're just lucky. Garmin's sleep tracking issues are well-documented, hence my initial reservations and questions about it in this thread prior to buying it. Here's just one of many examples. I've seen the same feedback in detailed reviews.

The fact that I've been using smart watches for sleep tracking for 7 years and can compare the Fenix with 3 other devices is also worth something.

              • @elektron: I can only speak fro myself and current experience and if that changes I’ll update but as of now not a single issue and is accurate. I think this comes down to using the new “Firstbeat” software who specialise in these sleep metrics and also put out white papers you only get these features however in their latest update or you’ll be using garmins own in house software for sleep metrics which I think the complaints stem from.

But again no issues here and for me it’s very accurate, if it stops being this way I’ll update but even after trying to trick the software at night it’s very accurate whether that’s a fluke or I got lucky I can’t say, maybe more of the premium sleep features are present in 6X sapphire due it having the “pro” feature upgrade? I can’t say. But I know for many it’s very accurate otherwise their would be millions of complaints as Garmin is well used smartwatch just seems the usual case of those hard done by scream the loudest while the rest of us stay silent if everything’s working.

                • @CheetoJesus: I am already using the latest update as I updated the firmware and the maps on Wednesday by connecting it to the computer. This is another throwback to the yesteryear, by the way. I've never had to connect any other smart watch (Pebble, Sony or Apple) to a computer in the 7 years of using these. And the last Apple Watch update I applied (this month) was 2.6 GB.

"Millions" of unhappy users may be a bit of an exaggeration - I don't think there are that many high-end Garmin watches have been sold, and especially since you consider that most people don't wear their smart watch to bed (at least most people I know). And, of the remaining ones, some may not be fussed with sleep tracking, especially if other features, such as maps, are a priority for them. And there are plenty of people (and reviewers) on-line care enough to describe Garmin's sleep tracking capability as anything from "totally useless" to "garbage". And then there's the silent majority who don't see the point of venting - I wouldn't either, if it wasn't for this thread.

                  • @elektron: @elektron @A5tro Looks like Garmin released a major update for Sleep Tracking and Analysis in June 2020.

DCRainMaker goes into detail including how parts of the tracking and the analysis now happens on the Fenix device instead of the Garmin connect web back-end.

                    https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/06/garmin-shows-off-new-on-…

Garmin has licensed these from First Beat who have decades of research experience on this. https://www.firstbeatanalytics.com/en/features/

@elektron did you do the firmware update on the device using Garmin Express?

                    • @merill: Yeh I mentioned that to him in my post above, I have the update and mine works perfectly.

                    • @merill: Yep, did it via Garmin Express. Just connected the watch again, it auto-checked for updates and told me that I'm up to date (software version 12.20). I've even clicked on "optional udpates" and it says "there are no other files available to install".

As far as I concerned, their sleep tracking is really bad in my experience using the latest software and these press releases are nothing more than a PR effort to deal with a sleep tracking issue they know they have.

            • +1

@CheetoJesus: I read all your comments and looks like you are super excited with the latest gadget. Bought one and it is nice but also has a few not so nice stuff.

Coming from Xiaomi band 5, Citizen eco drive and Tag Heur, the weight is fine. However, the Fenix strap is uncomfortable for me. If I put it snug it leaves marks on the skin and is loose when the strap is comfortable. Xiaomi band is so comforable. Thinking of buying either leather or nylon. Leather may not last due to sweat.

Haven't used it for sleep tracking as I can't sleep with a watch.

              Two negatives for me
              1. Strap
              2. shows higher heart rate (+10) than my Omron

              • +1

@Commenter: Just impressed with it is all, I don’t get impressed easily I have a lot of gear from note 20 phone (not impressed) to LG Oled TV’s (somewhat impressed) and ECM Synchronica coffee machine (Really, really impressed) amongst a heap of other stuff.

But it’s rare for me to actually buy something I haven’t owned in the past after debating about getting one for a couple years thinking that I wouldn’t be as impressed or as exited about it as I am with it, it’s even rarer for me to to write anything informative or update my experiences with a product ever, usually I live with it and am happy or return it because of issues, even walking out of jbhifi with it I felt “do I really need this?” Or am I just hype because of a $700 discount? Until I started wearing and using it.

To buy something I was unsure about and have it tick all the boxes that I need and not to have issues with sleep tracking as other things that have been mentioned here etc is also rare for me, personally I felt this was one of things that I should provide an update about as the discount was pretty damn good to say the least (well best discount I ever had on anything) and thought it only fair to update the thread on my early impressions as there were a few sitting on the fence so if I was able to help anyone that never owned a smart watch before like myself with my limited experience then I’m happy. Obviously if you’ve had one before you know what to expect.

Anyway I’m still really happy with it and by the sounds of it I must of got the unicorn version where the sleep tracking works perfectly, I wish I could show you but not sure how, it pin points the exact moments I get up etc through the night or when I’m sleeping light because my puppy has woken me up or I’ve got up to take a leak.

I can’t comment on the heart rate but if that corresponds to the stress levels then I would say mine is pretty accurate but not sure how I would measure it without professional medical tools to give me a baseline. I love the strap, it’s light and comfortable for me but I don’t tighten it till it’s cutting into my wrist either so I guess it’s subjective.

If anything I don’t like about the watch comes up though I will update the thread here for those that are interested.

  • No luck trying to find Coles gift cards so think I’m going to bite the bullet and purchase the watch without extra savings. Now to find a store that still has stock

    • probably give them a call and ask them to check for you? but it looks like it had been sold out natonally, as the price is insane. the price is around 900AUD ( without tax ) in US

    • +1

As I mentioned above your nearest JB should be able to order one for you and honour the price. For me they said about a 1-2 week wait.

    • I think amazon is back in stock and free shipping if you prime

      • Yep and between 5 and 6pm 12% cashback thru ShopBack

Edit: Nevermind, sold out on Amazon

  • Just a quick update with the watch now the initial purchase hype has worn off…

    Love it!

I’ve only taken it off when I’ve showered and apart from that it hasn’t left my wrist, I’ve slept with it on every night and it’s really comfortable and forget I’m even wearing until it vibrates in the morning if I’ve hit a new sleep goal (well rested).

Just ordered two new straps for it with the 10% discount Garmin gave me for registering the watch and got the Amp Yellow and Chestnut Leather official Garmin straps. Yes I know I can buy like cheap $16 ones or whatever but I don’t care due to the heavy original discount of the watch.

Anyway I’m really happy with it overall and definitely have 0 regrets, Knowing what I know now I’ll be looking forward to the next series of these watches whenever they release at 50% off 🤣🤣

      $129 band!!?

      lol.

can anyone steer me to some of those cheaper bands??

      • 10% off brought it down to $118, as I said I don’t care I’ve seen the bands before so I know what I’m getting and had issues with aftermarket stuff on other products so persoanlly prefer to stick tovthe origin source, plus free shipping I’m not complaining.

Anyway if you want the $15 ones here you go https://ozstraps.com.au/products/silicone-garmin-fenix-5x-ba…

        • Hey mate, would you be kind enough to share some pics and ypur experience with the straps that you bought?

Like some others, I am not used to wearing nylon straps with a snug fit, leaves white marks on my skin.

So I would appreciate some feedback from a fellow user 🙂.

          Thanks.

I've ordered a black steel one off eBay for $34, which looks virtually identical to the original Garmin band that costs $200. There are also light brown leather ones for $16 that look like copies of the $129 ones from Garmin. There are different sellers of these on eBay that sell the same stock as is often the case with these accessories.

I didn't opt for the leather one as I don't like having to worry about getting it wet and the stainless steel band also looks fantastic.

    • I’ve only taken it off when I’ve showered

Just curious, is there a reason why you are taking it off in the shower? I've always worn all of my smart watches in the shower with no issues. Surely, the 100 metre submersion rating means that it should be fine to shower in?

      • +1

No reason, just prefer showering with out anything at all on.

The 100 metre comes in more handy in the surf than in the shower anyway

  • Amazon only has 2 left. hope the cashback goes through with them.

    • Electronics is 5% currently but wearable tech is at 0%.

Moot point as its gone already!

Pulled the trigger and got one from Amazon.. totally don't need it since my 935 is perfect but its too good a deal and too much FOMO with JB selling out

    • +1

Well done mate, all sold out now.

      • Best I can tell, they seem to be randomly restocking in small quantities

        • +3

Yeah, I'm gonna refresh Amazon like a madman between 5-6 just in case lol.

  • All sold out now on JB too.

So the hunt for the watch is complete!

Today has been a journey. On my morning run passed 3 Coles stores to try and find discounted gift cards but no luck.

End of day went on the hunt at the JB Hi Fi’s in Melbourne (DFO south wharf, Elizabeth Street, Bourke Street, Melbourne Central) no luck.

Ringing round stores, Cranbourne, Fountain Gate x 2 none. The one inside the centre said they had 2, so sent my brother to get one but they didn’t have any.

Called my other brother and he happened to be at Chadstone. No luck there either.

Final hope was another state! Going up to QLD next week so made some calls and found a store with stock!

The store person confirmed he would hold it till end of day. Called the in laws and asked for a huge favour to go out on Friday night to get the watch!

What a journey and glad to finally have one, even if I won’t physically have it on my hand till next week.

      Now that's dedication

    • Best journal entry I've seen in a while. Congrats!

Just snagged a watch, price matched at rebel and I get 10% off through work so was $630.

For anyone else there is still some stock at JB stores if you call around,or if you are lucky get Rebel to price match.

  • +1

For anyone that’s interested just did a price match in the last hour with Rebel Sports here in SA at Mile End. JB-Hifi said they were getting more watches in and would honour the $699 price if I would like to proceed.

    • Interesting, my JB said all stock was gone and wouldn't honour. They then called me back as they had found one but I went rebel anyway as was better price (through work discount)

  • Hey for those that have this watch. Are the colours totally washed out? Mine looks horrible and wonder if it's defective.

Have had a look online but mine isn't doing the blue backlight issue. Reds look like a very pale red, I use whatsapp and the icon that comes up looks really pixelated.

All colours just seem pale and washed out, nothing like the crisp videos on YouTube.

    Here are some pics

    https://ibb.co/cQTFhpM
    https://ibb.co/pWH2Mtk

For instance I installed the SHD TXN watchface and upon selecting it on the watch there are no colours at all on it.

    • What are you comparing it to? I picked one up this week but am coming from a 235 and colours are as expected. These don't use a standard lcd screen so can't compare to a samsung or apple watch

      • Admittedly I am coming from a fitbit versa 2 which I believe is lcd but like I said, the colours look nothing like the YouTube videos. Everything is so pale. The blacks are more Gray.

        • +2

Yes the reviews mention it. This is because of the Sapphire coating. Check it out in broad daylight. You can also increase the brightness and turn on gesture. This way it's like the apple watch and it turns on the light when you look at the watch

  • Who is still after one? Someone at JB told me yesterday afternoon there might be ONE left in a Sydney CBD store. Could try your luck.

  • Does anyone own a black metal/stainless band for it? looking to get one :)
    Thanks

    • Nope but someone mentioned getting one off ebay for about $35. I'm thinking it might be a good idea since i find it hard to get it both comfortable and sung at the same time on my smallish wrists. It always seems to be loose around the back of the watch yet the strap is digging in and leaving imprints….. not sure if a metal band is the solution?

    Update…

9 solid days on wrist, every bell and whistle still turned on, no battery saver of any kind turned on and my battery is at 19% as of 3:56pm today (Friday 4th December) and I haven't charged it once.

Still love it, sleep tracking works great (for me anyway) navigation is awesome and everything else, steps, weather, sunrise/sunset times, tides etc all very accurate (again, on my watch they are).

Getting messages, email and receiving and best of all being able to hang up on someone you don't wanna talk to 🤣 has been awesome. Watch size is larger than any watch I've owned before (had a breitling was pretty big) but I honestly never notice it as thing is so light and comfortable even wearing in bed is fine for me.

This watch is sturdy as well, I accidentally scraped it against brick and not a scratch on the sapphire or anywhere on the watch, banged it a few times as well accidentally and nothing.

Couple of things I don't like about it, from what I can see you can't make phone calls from it not a huge deal just something to note and would be great if you could. Sleep tracking I'd love to see more data here as well so you can tap in and see exact times etc for deep sleep and restlessness etc.

Watch faces, yeh there's a heap but I wish there were more honestly, I know garmin only released the store last year I think but still wish you could tap into other third party stores for watch faces but I'm probably being greedy now.

Overall (my personal opinion) the honey moon phase has worn off but I still really, really like it. $699 was a steal and honestly I'm glad I knew nothing of it before this deal was posted because even at full price I probably still would have bought it (subjective I know) but overall amazing for my needs and happy to have picked this up.

    • +1

I too love the watch. Overall I am very happy with the purchase.

I charged it to 100% on 30th Nov and is currently at 53% after 5 days. Turned on backlight on Gesture and it dropped 20% in two days. So disabled it.

I turned off pulse OX and it stopped tracking sleep. Enabled it now but is not tracking sleep. Googled but can't get it back.

Downloaded Amazon music and don't carry the phone any more. Signed up to 5k training and following the instructions. Challenges is a nice way to motivate me to compete with other people.

So many menu options that it takes time to find the correct one. Still finding out new functionalities.

      • How do you both find the reflection of the sapphire screens? Any blue tinge on your screens (reported by some users blacks appear blue with the backlighting)?
