Toshiba Canvio Premium 2TB Portable HDD $47.10 @ Officeworks

Greetings Ozb.

Went to Officework Caroline Springs looking for this deal,

Although marked as OOS, they scanned (at $55+) and said there is 1 in Maribyrnong and 2 in Geelong.

Went to OW Maribyrnong. The kind lady at the counter looked for it on the cabinet behind them. Couldnt spot it at first, but found a different model instead, in 1TB and 2TB, in dark grey and silver.
There were more than 10 units of both the 1TB and 2TB in left.
The silver is same price as the dark grey.
Didn’t check the price of the 1TB though, sorry.
Got the 2TB dark grey.

Don’t know if its store specific.

OW website is showing the 2TB silver at $94.20

      Given this is a HDD…

  • anyone know how reliable this is? i am scared of losing data.

Buy 2 different ones then - no single drive is reliable enough to protect your data, no matter which brand/model/type

    • That's what backups are for. Yikes, please don't tell me you don't back up your data?

      • Documents and work/school related stuff is in the cloud. They are small enough to fit in free tier cloud storage.
Photos are being kept for free by Google photos. But that's changing in 2021.
"linux distros" can always be downloaded again.
So no, I don't back up my data.

I realise that Im not the OP but my use case of digital life is pretty typical I reckon.

Have been using a 1 TB for about 5 years now - first as a regular backup drive, and more recently as a media storage for my plex server (pi4). Absolutely no issues. Has been plugged in pretty much all throughout its lifespan (whenever my computer is on - roughly 6-7 hours a day easy, plus 24x7 over the last one year)

Edit: but yeah, listen to @lachlanww.

Missed out. All gone at highpoint

    • Bob sagget I missed this comment

  • There now and she couldn't find any except the advance for $119

  • So looks like all out of 2TB yeah?

  • The office works Toshiba link doesn’t work. I guess there’s none left.

  • I happened to be at QV Officeworks and thought it's a long shot, but there's no harm in asking. Came away with the last one! They're still out there people! Try your luck and ask.

    • Phoned in OW Maribyrnong 7am following day of the post, staff told me they got 2 left. I asked if she can hold one for me, she politely replied NO due to COVID, I mean really? The shop is open as normal, but can't hold stock??? Then the last 2 were gone before we finished our conversation. Called my nearest OW, got told they had 2 left as well, asked the lady to hold both for me, she said yep, no probs. I picked them up 20 mins later with no drama.

  • Thanks OP. Went to get one yesterday and it surprisingly scanned at $32.97!
