Get 10% Cashback Every Saturday in December (Max $30 Back Per Transaction) Using Tap & Pay @ Zip

8761

There seems to be a lot of confusion based on the comments so let me try and clarify how this works:

  1. Sign up to Zip Pay. Not Zip Money. You can use the 'Related Offers' at the bottom of this description for new signup options. Note that you must provide your email address or phone number if you want a referral, there’s no referral link and you can’t be referred without that info!
  2. Download the Apple or Android app and sign in with your details. You will need a smartphone with NFC.
  3. Go to the "Cards" tab within the Zip app. Click on Add to Apple Wallet (or Google Wallet if using android).
  4. Go to any store that accepts tap & go on credit/debit cards. Do not ask if they accept Zip Payment as this is a separate payment method.
  5. Purchase anything (any gift cards, services, goods, literally anything) and checkout with Apple Pay or Google Pay by tapping your digital Zip card on Saturday. Do not spend more than $300 in one transaction if you want to maximise your benefit as you won't get 10% back above $300!
  6. You should see the rewards balance reflected under "Rewards" within the "Your Zip" tab of the app immediately.
  7. Once you have reached $30 in credit, click on the redeem button to apply the credit to your account.
  8. Pay off your Zip account by linking a credit card to earn points and defer payment (The screen says debit card but many have confirmed credit cards to work as well - Amex will not work). It takes 3 days for processing payments to finalise and you cannot make additional payments sooner than that.
Things to note:
  • Applying for a Zip account will trigger a credit check.
  • Redeemable once you've reached $30 in credit (I.e. Min spend $300)
  • Rewards balance will continue accruing even if you don't redeem $30.
  • There's no daily limit. The only limit is your credit limit.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay don't have a $100 tap and pay limit like normal cards. The limit is unlimited since you biometrically authenticate yourself at the time of payment.
  • You cannot prepay your zip account via BPAY so that it goes into credit. I contacted Zip and they informed me that since they’re not a bank they’re not allowed to hold deposits. If you prepay your account you will be breaching their T&Cs and your account may get blocked. It will take a few days to unblock. Do so at your own risk, some have reported success while others have confirmed they got blocked.
  • You cannot make payments online.
  • Max $30 back per transaction.
  • Excludes Westfield gift cards purchased from Westfield
  • On days other than Saturday, you can still earn 3% or 5% cash back that will accrue towards your rewards balance.
  • Within a twenty-four (24) hour period, you (a) are limited to redeeming your Reward Goal eight (8) times, and (b) will not earn any further credit back if you spend $4,000 or more.
  • 10% back on Super Saturdays will override all other cashback offers with lower % back.
  • By end of 8 January 2021, any credit back that has not reached the Reward Goal will be cancelled.

        • It's just trying to say spend in $300 blocks, so if you only buy giftcards, don't exceed $300 in one transaction because you're capped at $30 back per transaction.

I bought groceries, then rounded up to $300 buying a Woolworths gift card.

          • @TEER3X: So what happens when you hit the $300 spend?, you click redeem and another blank $300 pool appears? (Unlimited 10% back per $300 on Saturday's essentially?)

And that means your current spending pool carries over to next Saturday?, so if I spend $250 this week, I still have next Saturday to make up the $50

            • @GReeeeN: Yes I believe you are correct on both counts. Just be aware they could kill the promotion early, but I don't think they will

I suspect they will be making money in future handling these transactions if everyone leaves their zip card as tap to pay

              • @TEER3X: Why would they axe it early? I'm sure they're rubbing their hands together joyfully over all the merchant fees alone.

    • No the $30 minimum reward to claim is until 8 January 2021.

      • So the $30 is a rolling credit and doesn’t reset every Saturday?,

Meaning if I spend $250 today, I can spend $50 next week to hit this $300?, or does the $250 spent towards the $300 disappear after today and next week is a new $300?,

        God this is confusing.

        • Correct.

10% cashback on Saturdays so assuming the $50 next week is Saturday.

          3% cashback any other days.

          • -2

@tajid: Ok thanks, so it’s 10% on $300 spend for the entire December which only goes towards the $300 spend pool on Saturday’s.

It’s not actually 10% back on $300 spend each Saturday. (Confusing part is the promo on the app literally says 10% back on $300 every Saturday, when in reality it’s 10% on $300 spend for the entire December, only eligible on Saturdays). Is that right?

Essentially each account is only eligible for $30 back in total for the entire December when using the card on Saturday.

            • @GReeeeN: So on Saturdays during December, they will give you 10% cashback up to $30 in one transaction. This only occurs on Saturdays.

On other days you get the standard 3% or whatever it is.

            • @GReeeeN: No no, you can get multiple $30 cashbacks.

So if you do $250 today
              Then $50 next Saturday
              You can claim $30
Then say you spend another $300 next Saturday
              You can claim another $30.

So it's $30 for everytime you spend $300 (whether that's $300 in a transaction or 250+50) - as long as your limit allows, which for most people the limit is $1K.

Maybe worthwhile to gloss over some previous questions.

              • @tajid: @tajid

Ah right, so there is no need for me to rush out and spend $50 today to be eligible, just gotta do it next week or the week after.

          • @tajid: And it’s the same bonus pool in the end right? - between the 3% and 10%, so even if I use Zip pay tomorrow, it will only be 3% cash back but will still go towards the $30/ min spend of $300 to redeem and once $30 is hit, click redeem and repeat. It’s just Saturday’s contribute more to this pool of $30 then other days?

            • @GReeeeN: Yes same pool

Though you can only redeem $30 at a time.

If by 8 jan, your pool is only $15 left, you won’t be able to redeem it and the $15 will be forfeited - so plan accordingly.

  • Does this work at smaller places? I had trouble last Saturday at smaller places with zip only paying 3 percent?

    • Why wouldn't it? Should just be a visa transaction.

      • not sure had to call them to fix it up for me

Just because I'm a super nice bloke. Target at Newton in SA, has 100+ Kids cards in $50 and $30(These are 10% off)

I already got $450 worth at WW, and $300 here. Basically enough to cover a PS5 whenever stock is in next year. 19% off a brand new console will be sweet! I believe around $605 down from $750

I'm tempted to buy some eBay gift cards, or more JB but I don't really buy much at JB. My mates brother works at HN so I can get serious discount through him I just doubt that will happen on a new Console.

May go to AusPost and grab some Amazon cards now!

    • +1

My issue with these him her giftcards is the constant change of policy.
I'm afraid of the scenario where jbhifi gets dropped off the list of valid retailers.

Need to find a way to convert them to jbhifi giftcards soon.

Any had success with buying something in store with the cards and then asking for a refund?

      • I have bought some HIM cards to use at JB Hi-Fi. Can they really change the T's & C's at whim?

        • Apparently they did for the restaurant one. There’s a thread here about it.

          • +1

@tajid: The JB logo is on the card. If they change it within the 36 months it’s false advertising. Refund.

            • @itsme56: I have the issue where I found a stack of the old him her gc like most did with the Coles deal and they don't display jb on the front just 6 retailers.

  • Can't believe I could have bought Z1p earlier this year but bought PRPL in the US market instead smh. Stupid mattress meme stock :(

  • Now I know why I am getting so many text regarding inviting them to Zip! Lol
I thought something is wrong and they might hack me 🤣🤣

  • Can anyone answer this question quickly? Really appreciate it. I have never used Google Pay. Only set it up last night after I applied for zippay. When applying for zippay one needs to add a credit/debit card for zippay payment. I just noticed that on my Google Pay there are 2 cards, zippay VISA card and my credit card. Sk my question is when do tap & pay in store today to buy gift card, how do they know which card on Google pay to use? I worry it may process the payment using my credit card rather than zippay card.

Can someone answer from experience? Thank you so much.

    • You need to open google pay and select the zip pay card so that it shows on screen, then you tap and pay with the correct card showing on screen. I believe you can also set it as default card but I have not done so.

When you swipe to show the card, also tap on it to select

      • Thanks so much. After posting here I noticed zip pay card was set as default and my credit card wasn't set up for contactless payment. First time using Google Pay. After reading how to use it I hot confused because it said all you had to do was to wake up your phone.

      • Also do you know where to buy Coles Group & Myer Gift Card? I wonder if my locals Coles have sold them out. Thanks again.

        • +1

Coles and myer stores definitely have it. Maybe target kmart to.

        • +1

Buy it with commonbank rewards, it's even better with 20% off. but only 100 dollar limit.

          • @SheepshearingReyrey: Not sure what is Commonwealth Reasrds is although do have a goal saver account. Just bought from Coles.

  • how does referral work? there is no invite friend button in my zip apps,

    • +1

IF you have it available it will be on the Settings screen. Not available to everyone though, maybe you gotta be a member for a certain time.

      • I've signed up since Dec 2019, and strange enough I signed up from Ozbargain referral and didn't get referral credit either.

  • Literally in Aldi with an aircon trying to activate Tap and Zip and just get errors.

Have a Zip Money and a Zip Pay account.

    Frustration lol

  • Rejected for paying Telstra bill at AusPost with Google Pay (Zip Pay). Is this normal?

    • Normal.

  • +5

Just used the Prezee app on iPhone to buy gift cards and paid with Apple Pay (on Zip card) to still get 10% Zip reward for stores that don’t accept Apple Pay (like eBay)

    • Is Prezee reliable?

      • +1

Gift card purchase today was instant for me and I used it on eBay minutes later. A lot of corporate workers including myself are getting Prezee gift cards for Christmas from work, so I think they’re reliable enough.

        • Likewise. Can confirm instant $300 gift card purchase through the Prezee iPhone app, with an instant $30 reward appearing in Zip app.

Beats having to travel to a JB Hi-Fi and line up in store. Also avoids the rigamarole of asking the cashier to process three separate transactions. A further benefit of using the Prezee app appears to be that the reward can be claimed immediately in the Zip app without needing to wait for the transaction to clear.

    • How? there's only credit card or PayPal option?

      • +1
        1. Download the app
        2. Sign in as guest
        3. Pick your retailer
        4. Pick your amount
        5. Tap the big Apple Pay button in the bottom right of the screen
        • Thanks, this is the 1st time I feel iphone > android.

    • ?????! So you can get amazon cards?

    • Epic.

    • How long till prezee or zip patch this out lmao

    • +1

      Oi Op
This worked a treat. You da real mvp.
Can a mod add this to the original post?

      • +1

Did this last week but refrained from adding to the post on the off chance that this gets patched. The offer is only for tap and pay but it works on all in app apple payments via apple pay including stores like boost juice or domino's in app payments.

If this suddenly gets patched and hundreds of people bought it they'd be pretty pissed.

        • Could just put a YMMV disclaimer.
Gotta risk it for the biscuit my dude.
(Put preferably let someone else be the guinea pig)

    • I just checked, apparently no Google pay. Any similar apps that allows Google pay?

Got my amazon gift card from United Petro station, also got 300 dollar gift card from woolies while claiming their 3000 points boost.

    very productive afternoon~~~

    • Fairly certain gift card purchases are excluded for those spend XX amount, receive XX bonus points offers

      • +1

not in my case~~ i got my points for the giftcard and 3000 points boost as well~~

        • There is a bug with some new cards. Enjoy while it lasts.

  • +1

Now I m worried whether paying zippay balance with credit card is considered cash advance with interest. Anyone knows ? ANZ credit card….

    • +2

It’s considered normal transaction. I’ve used wbc and anz to pay them off before.

      • Does it count towards the $3000 spending minimum to get bonus qantas points ?

        • I don’t see why not but it’s just my guess.

      • May I ask which WBC card you used? Mine is Earth Black. I hope it won't be treated as cash advance.

        • I used the WBC Altitude black

          • @joyfulpatrick: Ok thanks. Well similar enough. I made a payment with my WBC Earth Black this morning. Will finc out tomorrow. Cheers.

  • After you redeem the credit, do you get cashback when you spend money

    • +1

Yes. You will keep getting cashback until you finish spending your zippay credit limit. The credit that you redeem goes back into your total credit limit. But make sure don’t make more than $300 in any one transaction.

      • Thanks! Do you also know how long until you can refer other people?

        Edit: got it. 14 days

  • I'm a newbie and it worked easy

I basically just added it to my Google Pay? I have a Pixel 2

  • +1

For anyone who faces the issue with tap & pay and is asking you to insert/swipe card, make sure your NFC settings > 'Secure element position' is set to HCE Wallet. Most likely it's set as SIM Wallet.

    • I can't find the setting on both Pixal 4a and Huawei P20 Pro. Google Pay tap and pay works everywhere except paying bills at Australia Post.

  • +4

Variable Load Cash Card @ Woolies, $7.95 fee

    Load $500 and split pay.

Buy these instead of the Auspost one.

    • This is better than the wish gift card people are buying at woolies. The wish don't give you rewards points where's these visa do.

      • Really? I think Woolie does not give pts on any giftcards.

        • No. woolies do give you points on third party gift cards. Tried it myself. Not just woolies gift cards. Even though there's a surcharge it's still worth it.

          • @PeeDee: No, thats not usual. I think most likely that you are wrong.

Only flybuys pts are given on 3rd party gift cards in Coles.

            • @Neoika: Sorry my mistake. You used to be able to do it last year but they stopped it. You're right, only can get points from Coles.

    • Any idea if you can use these like a normal credit card? I've had some of the Aus post ones (and another brand, can't recall) that my father gave me and had issues using them to pay bills, purchase on line etc.

      • No, normal credit card is superior, e.g. you can not use only 1 VISA to pay ZIP account off. You need to be clever to take the full advantage of them.

    • these are only EFTPOS cards and not VISA right?

      • 3 cards are highlighted. The one on the left is Only 1 VISA.

    • +1

      Is eftpos or visa better?

    • was reading reviews, they say its super crap and hard to deal with? truth?
      planning to buy tomorrow.

      • Yes, if you are not in the top 20% in finance savviness, I would say no.

Giftcards are designed to have some barriers to use (in order to make profit for issuers).

        • please elaborate the barriers?
Find a bit stupid that its hard to use, all reviews is like?

  • +1

So to maximise on a $1000 credit limit..
Buy 3x$300 gift cards + 1x$100 gift card
You won't reach your goal in the last gift card spend but if you repeat this for the remaining saturdays you should reach the goal?

  • So I maxed out my $1000 credit limit today at various stores using Tap & Zip through Apple Pay (Auspost, Coles, Woolies, Chemist Warehouse) and all transactions are still pending, no rewards tracking yet. Is it normal? Haven't used my Zip account for a year so wondering if that may have something to do with it.

    • +2

      mine was instant

      • Does the transaction process instantly i.e. not showing as 'pending' in your Zip account?

        • +2

Transaction is pending reward was instant

          • @rainbowyen: Thanks. I'll just wait and see then 🤞🏼

            • +1

@VinceNT90: Trasx pending and instant reward! I have already redeemed 90 and then used that to buy as well

              • @Maxdax: Thanks for confirming. Looks like I'll have to contact customer support next week if it still doesn't come through by then 😟

                • @VinceNT90: Did you activate the promo?

I think that step might be missing from the instructions in the OP.

                  • @Master Bates: As someone said - when you see the super Saturday 10% off in the zip pay app - you are ready to go. I don’t think you need to activate anything.

  • First time Zip pay user. I used it today for $1000 worth of gift cards and redeemed the $30 3 times. What happens nexxt? Where do I find the $30 redemptions? TIA

    • Tap on Your Zip bottom of the app > Click on Rewards > Tap Redeem $30
      Repeat x 3

      • I don't seem to have the rewards option, anyone else experiencing the same issue?

        • Wait.. are you using Zip Pay or Zip Money? :(
