I spotted an apology notice at Woolworths yesterday, so just a heads up that this deal may be updated to replace the ACTIVE gift card with the TEENS gift card.

    • +1

Hijacking post - have added this deal to the Zip deal so there's a consolidated post for all discounts on the 12th

      • why cant they just chuck all thr stores on one card?

    • I've never used ZipPay. So how do u buy the cards at Woolworths on ZipPay, if u can't purchase items/products in Woolworths supermarket stores?…

  • +20

Oh my lord, here we go again. My wallet is crying….

    • +1

I guess lots of ozbargainers stock up at least $500 for these gift cards

      • +3

Were stacking with the ZIP promotion.

        • +6

If there's any left by Saturday morning

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Hide it behind other cards lol

I saw someone do this at my local store, so dodgy, I purposely found them and put it back after the guy left the store haha.

            • @techlead: I've never used ZipPay. So how do u buy the cards at Woolworths on ZipPay, if u can't purchase items/products in Woolworths supermarket stores?…

              • @INDYVADER: I just signed up to Zip pay, you just link it to Google play or the Apple equivalent if you have an iPhone and just tap your phone.

                • @techlead: Thanks. Did it yesterday (Saturday). They only give u a $500 account - ZipPay. So I got 5 x $100 + a $50 "HIM" Ultimate gc. I surely held up people in line, during mid afternoon, and got bad stares and got told off. But also ended up getting more of the "HIM" $100 gc, so I can get JB HI-FI cards with no expiry. Most of the Sydney areas sold out of the cards by Friday. Worth getting, being 10% off.

                  • @INDYVADER: The limit for Zip pay depends on your credit rating. I got a $1000 limit.

Yea, if you are putting those card through in separate transactions, that holds up the line a bit haha.

Reload the card so you can do it again next Saturday. Its 10% cashback for every Saturday in Dec.

    • Great. Let's see which one is better Woolies team or Coles team.

      • +3

        Ah, yes, the two genders.

        • +2

And then you've got IGA, Aldi, Foodworks etc to represent the non-binary genders :)

    • +34

Ok, since I am the first comment, guess I should bear some responsibility to explain this GC deal for some ppl.

Stack with Zippay 10% Cashback on this Saturday (which is 12/12/2020). —> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/588546?page=7#comment

Stack with Apple Education Discount to save 27%-28% on any new apple products: Step 1, Walk into your nearest JB HI-FI store. Step 2, If you have access to UNiDAYS/StudentEdge they will price match the Apple edu price on there. Step 3, Pay with the discounted gift cards.
Why 27%-28%? On this Saturday morning, which is 12/12/2020, you buy these lovely gift cards from Woolies with a 10% discount. You pay with your Zippay, therefore a further 10% discount. Since you ask for a price match with Apple Education price, another 10-11% discount.

Since you've spent some time reading my poor comment, I will give you guys some hint:
1, Apple Education price varies, since some ppl does not have a UNiDAYS/StudentEdge account, I use the following two links to demonstrate the difference, but you get the idea:
      Link 1: https://www.apple.com/au-hed/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/13-inc…
      Link 2: https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5005662/shop
      MacBook Pro 13-inch 8GB RAM + 512GB Storage: $2,149 vs $2,062.50

If you ask the lovely staff from JB Hi-Fi to do Apple BTO and price match with Apple Education pricing, they will do it. Just ask nicely, they will tell you if you order Apple BTO from JB right now, you will probably have to wait for 4-5 weeks, as it is the Christmas season.

2, Ask a friend who has access to the education price, or you can be a parent buying for your kids.

3, Oh, one last thing, those gift cards, ask the lovely staff from Woolies, ask them nicely. Do you see the shelf hanging all those gift cards? Okay, let me tell you, you will be surprised once the staff open the shelf lock and show what's inside. lol : )

Lastly, thanks for your time, I know my grammar is poor, enjoy a wonderful shopping weekend~

      • +1

The zip pay deal caps at $30, so it's ~19%+$30 for anything over $300?

        • +3

Max $30 back per transaction. I've done that last Saturday, bought 15 x $100 Bunnings gift cards.

      • +1

        Great stuff. Thank you

      • Thanks for your detailed comment. This is very handy for a first time buyer like me.

Maybe a dumb question, but I have no clue how these work. Can these cards only be purchased in person at Woolworths store or can they be purchased online?

Also I have never used zippay but will register now and use it to purchase the cards. Just hope they will still have stock till Saturday.

Lastly is the Apple education discount only applicable for students. I will check out the links you have provided as well to understand what it means.

        • Use this for $15 credit if you are a new Zip customer - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/586721

        • +2

1st question: I don't think these cards can be purchased online, so my answer is in-store.
          2nd question: If you haven't registered, don't forget this deal —> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/586721
JHoliday has also mentioned this under your comment.
3rd question: Ask a friend/relative who has access to Apple Education price would be a solution for you.

      • mate - does Edu pricing apply to iphones as well or just ipads and mac?

        • +1

No, Edu pricing does not apply to iPhones, but if you buy from JB Hi-Fi, you can negotiate the price.
I bought the iPhone 12 Pro Max for $1,979 with AppleCare+ for $260, I just asked the staff nicely: "Hey there, blah blah blah, oh, hmmm, can you mark down the price a little bit for me, please?"
(or you could ask them rudely, I saw someone did this a couple of weeks ago: "I want buy this product, do you have a good price?")

          • @Xavier1128: Hi

Did zip record all cashback for your purchases last week? I think it is 0.1*1350=$135 cashback.

          • @Xavier1128: How did the rude request work out for the requester?

      • Which edu pricing was this? The prices seem to be little bit lower than unidays pricing.

      • +3

If you put as much effort into your studies as you have here, you’ll do well

      • If my sister is a teacher, how realistic is jb matching price to education store? They wouldn’t even match to amazon last time cause they said it’s prime deal.

      • This isn’t the 1st comment so no responsibility.

      • Wondering whether to wait for the weekend or just hit the store at 7am tomorrow…

      • Ok, if u are to buy them on Saturday, they'll be all gone, I assure u. At Big W these were sold out by midday on Saturday (I rang around to ask and have Woolworths Rewards card, and had gone into a few stores on Saturday from 10am-12pm, and same as the ones at Coles @15% off were sold by early that Saturday as well [when the special was on the previous week!] I have the family's Flybuys account linked to my eBay Plus account, but do the weekly groceries at Woolies). So u can forget about buying the cards on zippay on Saturday. These giftcards are scarce.

Also, u need to have documentation to show even the JB reps of if u are a student as such, and therefore that u show them access to the Apple Education Discount.

        • I hit up the Woolworths at QV at 7am this morning (along with three other brave OzBargainers) and there was nothing even then - although, given that nobody managed to get any, it wasn't due to this particular sale.

No signage up about it either, and one of the store people did look behind the cupboard as Xavier1128 suggested and I was indeed surprised - it was an incredible mess of jumbled up gift cards, unmarked boxes, and SIM cards. The store person gave up pretty quickly and I don't blame him.

          • @ely: Most Woolworths are sold out of the cards. Even with the $50 ones, you'd be lucky to find half a dozen in store. Do so at your own peril! I find that there will be 5% off JB Hi-Fi cards on Boxing day or New Year's for such. Sometimes the supermarkets will offer the extra points when obtaining such giftcards. But not discounts. You have to get in early when such supermarkets open. I've been in such supermarkets at 8.30 or 9 b4 starting work, and find out that they've sold out.

            • @INDYVADER: Oh yeah, I know, that's why I was at a store at 7am opening time on Wednesday when they went on sale. Still no luck because the store was very disorganised!

              • +1

@ely: If u had've went to out of the way of Sydney areas - more than 70k's out from the CBD (eg; Berowra, Wollongong, Penrith, Campbelltown) they were the only ones that had such. Whether it was a half a dozen or whatever, they're the only ones that had any left by the Saturday. They won't ship/mail them to u, and will hardly answer their phones. I was lucky in one of these areas, as I reside in such. But normally and generally, I don't.

    • Got lucky today. Was able to get 10 $50 HIM cards and 2 $50 HER cards from woolies at flinders st.

  • +3

    Here we go again!

  • +5

Alright, get ready for a 20 page comment

  • +1

    Ugh.

  • Do we get woollies points for GC purchases?

    • +2

      No points for GC

    • No, the T&C states that all GC purchases are excluded.

  • +6

Stack with Zippay Sat 10% Creditback!!
    Amazing deal

    • WOW - hadnt thought about that.

    • +4

Awesome, this is exactly how I will be buying more TCN gift cards on Saturday.
Max Zippay cashback is $30 per transaction, so don't forget to only make max $300 worth of gift cards per transaction if using Zippay for maximum cashback value of 10%.

      • I thought tap and pay is only up to $200?

        • +1

no, zip pay works like a credit card when using Google or Apple Pay or even the Zip app, there shouldn't be a transaction limit.
personally, I've used Zip to pay for a $500+ transaction in store before with no worries

          • @genes888: How does it work? I have added it to apple wallet.. do I just need to make sure I have an updated credit card stored in zip?

            • @Westpac: Use the Zip app or website to create a virtual Visa card with a valid 16 digit card number, & expiry date. Then either use Apple Pay or Google Pay to add the new visa card to your digital wallet. The voila, select the new Zip Visa card and tap&go wherever paywave is accepted. cheers

              • @genes888: I'm curious, why are you suggesting to add the virtual Visa card to the wallet?

I would think that the ordinary Zip card would be sufficient.

        • Tap and (enter a pin and) pay.

    • +1

If they have stock until Saturday.

  • +4
    • +9

      Won't be any left.

      • Agreed, if the big w giftcard discount was any indication, no chance these will make it to Saturday.

        • +1

Can add on to this, just went to a big W to get TCN gift card and was told by staff that they were sold out within an hour!

  • The Cinema Card - All major cinema chains or local cinemas that accept eftpos - Seems just like a eftpos card

    • +2

Probably an eftpos card, but with limitations on the industry codes in which it can be spent.

      • i was thinking the same thing…..how does the eftpos card know which industry you are in…?

        • +1

When businesses apply for merchant accounts they have to specify an industry.

          • +1

@tomsco: Technically the financial institution chooses it. Can't trust dodgy merchants!

            • +1

@John Kimble: Fair point. If I wanted to get technical, the business can't just say we operate Joe Smith Ltd, they still have to say what they do :p

        • EFTPOS terminals are loaded with an MCC

    • +1

I was thinking the same about the restaurant card. If it's for any restaurant or cafe, is there any way they can know?

      • Obviously many people getting declined when they tried the same card the 2nd time at the same restaurant or cafe

        • Yeah it is very hit and miss. Used it to get lunch multiple times last week and worked at the same restaurant (not lunch bar, deli, fast food), this week, it is no longer working.

        • Thanks, I definitely won't get it then.

    • +1

These cards have Eftpos logos on them, but restrictions on where they can be used. (I have a TCN Kids card, assuming that all the TCN cards are the same.)

  • Is there limits with jb hifi purchases?

I didn't follow along with the full shitshow last time but saw something about a $500 limit?

    • +1

JB have removed limits on payments using Gift Cards.
Can also convert TCN cards in store to JB gift cards with no expiry date

      • How do you do that?

        • +1

has to be instore at the checkout counter. TCN cards work like normal EFTPOS cards, so just go ask a JB store member for an exact amount gift card total you want to buy, they go out back & will load up a gift card voucher with the amount you requested and then you go to the counter & pay for them with the TCN cards.

          • +1

            @genes888: Poor staff member though.

            • @ATangk: I once ended paying $1000 with 20 $50 TCN cards. I felt sorry for the staff, but they did not complain.
But i decided not to take this path next time

  • Anyone knows how to swap to JBHiFi's physical GC in store? I went to 2 JB stores, and they refused to do so.

    • +1

JB Hi-Fi stores have been instructed by head office to no longer allow the purchase of gift cards with any gift cards (i.e. JB Hi-Fi own gift cards or 3rd party gift cards), so you may find that no JB Hi-Fi stores will help you. (A staff member told me that a couple of weeks ago after the Coles TCN deal was in full swing.)

      • refusal of using TCN gift cards to buy JB gift cards could be store dependent. I used $1000 worth of TCN gift cards at a JB Hifi QLD store over the weekend to buy $1000 JB store credit with no issues. It was a standalone store and the checkout wasn't too busy, so the staff member didn't mind doing the transaction.
worth a try at your local JB after you buy the TCN gift cards imho…

      • If you have the digital TCN cards, can you still swap these for JB store cards online and then use it to buy a JB Gift voucher from their website?

    • +8

buy something online and then return it in store. they will give you the refund on a new card.

      • +2

        buy something online

I thought you could only use TCN cards in-store at JB Hi-Fi?

        • Correct . Again I 'll warn doing that buying instore and retuning can get you on the no return list . That can stop you buying online as well .

        • +1

sorry, thought you were asking about JB e-gift card! for TCN, i assume you buy something instore (for the full value or a bit more) and then return it. i dont think they refund to a TCN card, so refund should go into a JB voucher. (disclaimer - i havent tried this so follow at your own risk! also, can't do this regularly.)

          • @quasi:

buy something instore (for the full value or a bit more) and then return it

Can confirm I did this during the Coles gift card deal. Used the Him cards to buy something worth $500 (when the limit was in place) and returned. They put the $500 in a JB voucher.

            • @DiscountForThee: Seems a lot of people did this, so at one point staff were instructed to tell you that if you purchased with a TCN Gift Card, you waived the right to return for change of mind, so buyer beware, it might not be a given that it can be returned that easily.

  • Any limit on how many cards you can get?

    • 5 cards per transaction.

I told the cashier to process it twice.

      • It's actually 10 per transaction. Their system physically won't let them scan more than 10 at a time. They will put more through via multiple transactions though as mine did this morning 10 and 4.

        • Only could do 8 x 100 HIM cards in one transaction. That would be at most Woolworths around the Sydney basin.

          • @INDYVADER: Weird mine allowed 10 at my local in VIC

            • @iShibby: Well, that's VIC. That's not NSW. Most only allow 5 per transaction, of the $100 ones. $500 worth per transaction. That's why I did $100 GC's of the HIM one. Of the ones that I went to, only allowed 5 max of the $100 in a transaction. They generally won't allow more than $500 or $600 purchase in a transaction.

  • -6

So the trick is to go in store now, hide them somewhere no one will find them (health food section? home brand tin tomatoes? tips?) and then go in on saturday with Zip?

    • +1

All the woolies employees will be reading your comment and checking their stores before opening on Wednesday morning lol

We’ll have to go to the service desk and listen to their guilt trip story “was saving this for myself but you can have it” gives 1 out of 50 in draw to customer.

    • Haha so naughty it might work eh eh eh

    • I think this is a lot less likely now with all the 'personal shoppers' cruising the store and picking from most aisles.

      • There must be loads of places to hide them! Job for tomorrow…..

        • Just find an item that barely sells and hide it behind them. Bbq stuff barely gets touched

    • +3

I get it that this deals get competitive. But to stoop down the sad level of going ahead to hide giftcards seems beyond fair competition.

  • Are you able to use the The Restaurant Card at a Pub/Bar? Or is that limited to the The Pub & Bar Card?

    • Resto card has only failed at one place for me and that was a pub.

    • Good question. So far we have used the restaurant card at shopping centre to buy sushi and Maccas. And coffee at small coffee shop near work. We still haven’t tried at pub.
