        • Yep all that. You'll need to scrape the pin to check the balance but having the cards removed from their packaging and pins displayed makes for a faster process when swiping them at JB.

          • +1

            @iShibby: Thanks!

          • +4

@iShibby: I always offer to swipe for them so they don't have to do it. You basically tell them what denominations you have and they punch them into their register. So I had all $100's so she would just punch in $100, I swipe, click SAV and enter the pin. She served other customers while I was doing it but she has to keep entering the $100's for you to pay off if that makes sense. They keep the used cards, you walk away with a 2 meter receipt, easy.

    • How did you go? Did the balance show up?

      • bought mine this morning and it says active with no balance. guess ill be contacting them tommorrow

  • Managed to get $100 * 5 and $50 * 5. Woolies guy had no clue about the discount. I can't be bothered going to other stores and checking for stock. Will try to get jb hifi GC with Zip pay to get the 10% discount (Max 30$) on a Saturday.

Does anyone know if generally there is also shortage of GC's at JB Hifi ?

  • +1

Heads up, I bought cards at 9:22 and they’re active now with full balance available.

  • Had some teen and the old her gift cards left at marrickville metro nsw when I was there at 10am. Didn't see anyone going for the cards while I was there. Was able to get them all with multiple transactions too.

    • +1

Have you tried those old her GCs at JB?

  • +1

Finally have enough GCs for an MBP BTO. So how do I maximise my savings, do I just ask JB HiFi to price match Apple Edu pricing?

    • +1

Yep and go through the UniDays app as it's a bit cheaper. They price matched there for my M1 Mac Mini BTO.

      • Is it cheaper than 10% off?

        • Not quite think the UNiDAYS is like 7.5% so not bad

          • @iShibby: Then why price match? Just wait for jb 10% off all Mac

    • +3

I went in and said my partner is a teacher and can I get edu price. They said yep, no need for id. Seems pretty easy

  • I've spent all day trying my luck, heres the stores with none left:
    Doncaster = NO
    Blackburn/Blackburn North/Blackburn south = NO
    Box Hill = NO

Trying to decide to keep my 2 Him cards ($100) I got (no JB hifi on it/old card?).

    • +1

I remember reading somewhere someone said to try asking the staff nicely and they will pull some out from locked drawers?

      • Yeah, tried that in the last 3 days worth of hunting, only 1 store did that for me.

I've now spent more money on public transport then any saving on a few cards.
At least I was able get a eBay $50 yesterday.

    • Same for both HIM & HER (see above comment), cant say I recall seeing any Teen at same stores.

Maybe I got lucky and can still use it at JB, trying to confirm now with TCN.

  • Not able to receive verification code through TCN app

    • Been broken for a while, same for everyone.

  • There’s about 750 I found in woolies should I just get them? Shold I risk it if I want to use it to purchase ps5?

    • why would you say its a risk ?

      • Incase it never comes in stock at jb?

        • You can always sell them via classified here.

          • @bajirao: I think these can only be used physically, though classified can still do f2f transactions

            • @Meovel: Yeah .. it depends on location. If you are in city, you have a better chance and doing f2f rather than sending via AusPost.

    • Which store?

  • To anyone considering waiting until Saturday, I believe there won't be sufficient stock. As a few Woolworths I went to had very few stock remaining.

  • Can you use these online?

    • +1

Some of the cards can be swapped on the TCN website for a store-specific gift card that can be used online. To check out for the store you're interested visist the TCN website click Learn More on the card you're interested in, click How to Use and then select the store from the drop down.

  • +2

Not sure if this helps anyone. There are at least 20 of each (him and her gift card) available in Airlie, QLD as I post this comment.

14 x $30 (Teen gift card) available in Carnegie, VIC

    • You travel far and wide!

  • I tried scanning the $50 teen giftcard and it was not discounted at my store (NSW)

  • How do you tell if they're active?

    • After you pay for them the system will activate them. You will then get a receipt that says they are activated (or not). From previous experience, it might take sometime for the cards to show a balance though.

  • So how long does these cards take to active. Bought today and tried using after 1 hour. They didnt work

    • The ones I bought yesterday at 9:22 am were active with full balance around 3 hours later, but T&C list up to 24 hours. If you’re still having problems, I’d advise to jump on their Facebook and ask for help via PM.

  • So the moat effective to use this deal with 10% zip tap and pay is to buy $300 gc and $30 item so we can bank $30 credit rewards? Or just $350 gc will do too. Any more idea? Thanks

  • Is the discount working on the $50 TEEN cards or just the $30?

    • +3

Bought some $50 TEEN this morning w/discount. Got them to check that the discount was valid on the $50 HER and TEEN cards I was buying, ran them all through for me in batches of $270. There is a $500 limit that the staff member informed me of, but I explained the purpose (use for JB Hi-Fi) and she was fine with doing more - apparently it's just a blocker for the "you need to pay the ATO with gift cards" scam.

      • There were $30 TEEN there that were not coming up with a discount though, so I didn't get them - couldn't really be bothered dealing with the $30 cards anyway, $50 is bad enough, but it does appear from the advertising that $30s are meant to be discounted.

  • +3

Woolworths Team Discount Works - Extra 5% Discount

    • Is that the reason why there’s no gift cards to buy in most of the stores?

  • +1

Having now bought $1000 of these in $50s for $900 (with 3% ZIP cashback on top), it now occurs to me that it would have been a lot less hassle and somewhat cheaper to use the zip virtual credit cards to buy 5% discounted JB Hi-Fi gift cards in $300 units from Suncorp Rewards on Saturday with a 10% Zip cashback instead.

Are there any exclusions from Zip's cashback that makes this a bad approach?

    Edit:

Yes, yes there are. Very good, carry on with the store raiding then.

The transaction: (1) Must be made using your Tap & Zip card instore

    • +1

Next step: buy JB Hi-Fi GCs in $300 lots directly from JB Hi-Fi on Saturday, still a 10% discount I guess. Unlikely to be able to find any of these available to stack on Saturday.

      • +1

This is really option #3, the last resort and probably my approach

1 is to buy the cards on Saturday - if you can find any cards! 19% overall discount

2 is to buy them now and get the 3% discount - 12.7% discount overall.

Good luck finding some, my local WW was out last night when I went through!

        • Picked up $1000 in $50s at the Woolworths Metro on Elizabeth Street, Melbourne CBD this morning. Only $30s of the Teen there now though, and apparently they're not on sale. I figured the 19% overall discount was, in practice, unobtainable.

Frustrated that I went to the Woolworths QV first thing yesterday morning and they had nothing though; hadn't sold out, was the first morning and I was there when they opened the store (I live nearby), they just hadn't put any out and couldn't find any when they looked inside either.

  • Seen on Best GC website - 15% Off ALL Cards valued over $250. CODE: EARLYBIRD15

  • Anyone knows if we can use the google play card for Google Pay app payment?

  • Woolworths Double Bay had 10 $50 Her cards - all gone now

  • +2

Can confirm this deal applies to TEEN cards and Woolies Metros. Managed to nab the last few teen ones at a metro near me.

    Balance appeared within 2 hours

    • +1

The $30 TEENs were ringing up without a discount for me, $50s were fine. If you feel like talking the store around to following their advertised prices then there were a pile of $30 TEENs (~30 or so) at the WW Metro on Elizabeth Street, Melbourne CBD.

  • So is it safe to say that no cards of HIM/HER in local Vic?
Anyone know about others stores further out?

  • +1

JB stores in Melbourne Central and on Bourke Street refusing purchase of gift cards with gift cards, which is a bit of a pain.

  • I just picked up the last 3x $100 Her gift cards at Brookside WW, and 7 x $100 Him/Her ones at Aspley (there was another half a dozen or so there at least).

  • I've contacted TCN in regards to the "old?" cards not displaying JB Hifi on them, hopefully it doesn't take too long to get a response.
I must be going crazy, as I'm sure I saw a contact number yesterday on their site 1300 375 346, but not now?
But now a just contact form & address only.

I'll update here when I find out either way.

    Update 1: Just got a request received email from them stating that there is a delay & they will get back to me soon, the following is what was also in the email;
"Please be aware that typically gift cards can take up 6-24 hours to activate from the time of sale at retailers.
Please note, due to the promotional limit of 5 cards per person we can only assist each customer with 5 cards".

    • +1

They're referring to the recent Coles sale which had the 5 card limit, the same limits haven't applied at Big W or Woolworths.

  • I have resisted purchasing until tomorrow.

First thing in the morning and I'll be at Woolworths to make 3 × 3 gift card transactions (at $270 each) to maximise the Zip Pay cash back.

Yes, my local Woolworths has the cards in stock all week.

    • So did you manage to get some?

  • Is it just me, or have they removed the merchant search function for the Pub & Bar and Restaurant gift cards? I think they have.

On this page https://card.gift/pages/the-pub-bar-card they still have the hyperlink for 'Where to Use', but the search function is gone.

    • +1

A lot of restaurants I used the restaurant card is now declining transactions.

      • That's crazy. Can they just keep doing that and we don't get to use them at all?

        • Seems so. They also removed "cafes" from "Use this gift card at restaurants and cafes that accept eftpos around Australia."

        • Surely this is bait and switch. When I bought these cards, they were accepted at the restaurants I frequented, now it is being declined. Of course, they will just point to the T&C, but I will be making sure I never touch these cards again. $450 down the drain.

      • Was unable to use my cards for a week, and noticed a lot of decline over this weekend. Lucky I only brought $250 worth, so just down $180s. Never again….

        • What do you mean? You didn’t use them and they went down..?

          • @Westpac: Sorry, probably worded it wrongly. No issue with the balance, was more stating that if I cannot find a place to use it I would be out of pocket only $180s, which is the remaining balance on my cards.

            • +1

@Ongy528: Oh that makes sense. Good luck hope you find something

  • now to ask JB if they will price match edu store apple so I can get an ipad.

  • Anyone managed to find the restaurant card or the pub card at Woolies .

    • Yes - where are you in Qld?

      • which stores in QLD have you checked out?

      • Sunshine Coast

        • Ok, saw a store in West End (inner suburb of Brisbane) that had a reasonable amount of stock - not much use to you though I suspect.

    • +1

Why are people still trying to get the restaurant card with so many transactions being declined?

  • can we buy this gift cards with wish gift cards?

  • +6

WARNING for those who are going to buy TCN The Card Network cards, please read this:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/590268

    • I was about to buy $300 restaurants card. Fortunately, I saw your comment.

  • How is the stock looking for you guys today for the gift cards? Has it run out?

  • +7

OK, it's time for an update.

I was intending to purchase a mix of pubs/bars and restaurants cards and other cards for redemption at JB Hi-Fi.

As indicated above, I was holding out for today to combine with the Zip offer. However, over recent days I have become increasingly concerned about the issuer of these cards and the risk to any funds I might expend on the offer.

Firstly, as indicated in another post, and by others, the issuer has removed the facility to check for valid pubs/bars and restaurants. This is very concerning to me as a cardholder then has no guarantee as to where the cards can be redeemed.

Secondly, the card issuer, again as reported by multiple people, has removed its contact number. This was of further concern. Adding to this, others have reported being unable to get through to anyone on the number (which those people had previously noted down, a phone number which continues to exist on other parts of the issuer’s website, eg, within the terms and conditions).

Thirdly, and this sealed the deal (to not purchase), the Facebook page for the issuer is replete with complaints about this merchant. Have a look for yourself. The complaints are similar to those in this thread, including that the cards do not work at merchants despite being previously able to be redeemed at those same merchants.

TCN has responded (at least with a holding reply) to what appears to be a small proportion of those complaints. It is clear, however, that some of those complainants remain dissatisfied even after contact from TCN. Another big red flag for me was that there are numerous complaints that TCN is deleting comments from its Facebook page—so it was not possible for me to get a full picture of the extent of the dissatisfaction.

A point of note: some of the responses from TCN appear to be have been made from the personal accounts of individuals related to TCN, rather than being made from the TCN page account. It is, of course, not possible for me to verify authenticity of those posts and whether those people are genuinely associated with the firm.

I also considered what recourse I had if the cards no longer worked.

As per my notes above, contacting customer service didn't seem to be an option which could assist with the matter. I also considered whether a card scheme chargeback against a retailer of the cards would be successful and determined that it probably would not. I also considered whether Woolworths (or other retailer of the cards) would or was likely to give me a refund if the card/s did not work. I determined that it would only be a goodwill refund, and even that would take much time and escalation to achieve. I also read the terms and conditions applicable to the cards to see whether the card issuer, TCN, was part of any dispute resolution scheme. I did not find that it was a part of any such scheme.

Then, of course, there are the many posts in this thread that advised of delays in credit activation—a problem I have not experienced with any other type of prepaid gift card.

One final aspect of my research involved looking up the address for TCN on Google Maps. The listed office is a laneway in Melbourne.

After assessment of the above, I considered purchase of the TCN cards to exceed my acceptable risk threshold. Accordingly, I will not be proceeding the purchase of any of these cards.

I do not suggest any wrongdoing by TCN.

Finally, I acknowledge that some people have indicated success with their purchases.

    • +3

When I looked on The Card Network page yesterday evening, there was a post made by TCN indicating that it would limit the provision of support to only those people holding 5 cards or less (or something to this effect). This limitation has been noted by others within this thread.

It is this post by TCN which attracted the most complaint responses, not about the support limitation itself, but about issues similar to those discussed within this thread. TCN appears to have now deleted its post.

I recall that some of the complainants appeared to be very angry about matters such as nil balances, limitations on use of the restaurant cards, and lack of response. Several posts suggested that the matters be reported to the ACCC.

  • Had no luck with the Teen $30 and $50 cards at two Woolies that I’ve tried, despite the signage and the sample pictures showing these two cards. Not sure what I did wrong here.

  • +1

Great i bought $600 restaurant cards for my daughters bday party. If they don't work their someone's head will be rolling

  • +2

I got a response (email) from TCN regarding "old" (non metallic) cards today, with the following answer:
"The HIM Card can be used at both JB HiFi ".
This 'may?' also apply to the 13 (25 in total) extra stores on the current HIM cards vs 12 on mine. I think that was why they used the word "both" in the reply.

At least that's some good news, I can use my 2x $50.
I've given up looking for more of them, hopefully there are still some Active cards around in the next few days.
How often do gift cards (Coles/Woolies/Big W) go on sale at 10+%?

  • So I bought 10 x $50 Teen and 18 x $30 Teen cards across 3 woolies near me (Sydney North Shore). Was able to use them and a $500 jb card (from recent $500 Ozbargain Telstra plan) towards new iPhone 12 Pro at Jb Hifi.

  • How many cards can you use in a transaction? I've found 15 Teen cards but their only $30 each

    • No limit.

  • Bit risky given the card itself doesn't show jb hifi and only lists 6 retailers (him)

    • Just noticed this too, doesn't list jb hifi

      • +1

The website said it works at jb though.

    • +2

I got the old $100 card (the ones without the JB logo on them) and just redeemed 6 of them at Jbhifi - no issues.

      • Thanks for the update.
It's good to see that they worked OK, given TCN said yes.
Just need a few Active cards now.

        • +1

I'd still be hesistant to hold on to them though, would use them ASAP
