40,000 $200 Regional Travel Rebates on $400 Travel Spend Available to Victorians

6136

From Friday at 10am, the Victorian government is offering 40,000 Victorians $200 'vouchers' to travel within Victoria between December 12 and January 22 as a stimulus for the tourism industry.

You have to spend over $400 on one of the following categories to get the $200 back:
- accommodation
- tours
- local attractions

Exclusions are gaming, alcohol (except if alcohol is included in wine/brewery/distillery tasting type tour but excludes any alcohol purchased and consumed outside of the experience), fuel, food and drinks (except where packaged with an eligible expense such as a winery tour), groceries, personal items such as clothing and accessories, transport costs (rental vehicles, train and bus tickets).

It's really a reimbursement from the government though – travellers have to apply for the voucher, pay for the travel upfront and then receive a reimbursement from the government.

Still, $200 back on your trip is still $200 back!

Another 40,000 vouchers will be available on January 20, and may be redeemed for travel from January 27 to April 1, and the final batch of vouchers will be released on March 30 for use from April 6 to May 31.

Update: An extra 30,000 regional tourism vouchers will be made available to Victorians at 12PM today. Sold Out

Round 2: 40,000 vouchers will be released from 20 January 2021, 10.00am for travel between 27 January 2021 to 1 April 2021. Sold Out

Round 3: 30 March 2021, 10.00am, for travel between 6 April 2021 to 31 May 2021

    • I'm only refreshing this page

      • That's why I feel OZB slowing down

  • +6

Maybe if all Ozbargainers don't hit the refresh button for a min, IT team will be able to apply and commit the "apply now" button change :)

    • just called their cutomer service and they say keep refreshing and thats probably what everyone is doing now :)

  • +3

Can everyone just stop refreshing for five minutes so they can dd the Apply button?

    • +1

      good ol prisoners dilemma

  • +1

I guess the change was not approved by the change team administrating the website.

  • This is why you do Performance Testing (I am a testing professional).

    • +1

We are all testing professionals on this blessed day

      • You don't test in Production. LOL

        • I dont think this is Performance testing issue. This is a defect for function testing. Button not exist!

  • The guy in charge had one job to do.
He outsourced to someone who outsourced it and now it is not his fault.
seems how they work at Vic Gov

  • At the rate we're going, this thread on ozb is going to be DDOSed also 😅

  • +2

I would note that there will be 2 future rounds and that it's limited to 1 voucher per household across all rounds. I think I might hold off until the next round as Xmas/January is already pretty packed with family stuff and everything is more pricey…

  • For god's sake stop hitting refresh button….

  • +1

Imagine how flawed the actual registration process will be if they can't even submit the Apply button.

  • +2

Next time u want to load test your new website, just put a post here saying $2 grant for all applicants starting on dd/mm/yyyy at 10am…. 10 spots available and then watch that baby go

  • +4

  • +5

Maybe we should all call the hotline at exactly 10:20am? "For further assistance please call the Business Victoria hotline on 13 22 15." ;-)

  • Has anyone found the 'apply now' button?

  • -6

I got one! is what I want to say when it works

  • -3

    • +1

If this is true share the link.

      • As others have described below. This post is full of shit. There's no hidden button.

    • Inspect element on Chrome?

    • +2

      scam

    • I can't see any hidden buttons in the source. What's the text of the button?

    • Fake news. Downvote this comment.

  • I'm trying to find a back door but like everything else nothing exists .

Finding needle in a haystack… Refresh, Scroll from top to down, Refresh

  • +6

The guy on the phone at business Victoria said they are running 15 minutes late. He then said that it will be up and running at sometime today. So the whole of Victoria spends their day at work pressing the refresh button and at the end of it will probably not get a voucher.

    • +1

At least all the normies will give up after about 30 minutes of trying, leaving the vouchers for us hardcore OZb's :)

  • +3

the guy probably on sick leave today

    • lmao

    • +1

After this I would be too. Prob was never told about this either

Chairman Dan want to see how stupid Victoria people really are. Still, they vote for him and his incompetence

    • I will still vote for him. Keep them insults comin’

      • -1

Why would you vote him back in?

Serious question? Do you not see all the corruption he is involved in?

        • -1

          No, I don't.

        • -1

          Please enlighten us

@proudwanderer: Belt and Road deal with China
            Red shirts
            Hotel quarantine outbreak
            Endless lockdowns
            East West Link cancellation
and so on and so forth

          • @proudwanderer: Oh and also just been reported today that the cost for public servants wages have jumped from 99 million a year to 327 million a year under Dan Andrews' regime.

Even though one of his key political points when fighting to win power, was that he would reduce the amount of public servants and the costs associated with them!!!

            • +1

@Danstar: I also heard that he wants to extend state of emergency until the end of the year

  • Maybe it's 10am Perth time :)

    • Apparently we all moved to QLD, so maybe QLD time?

  • +4

Now we know what happened to the bureaucrats that ran hotel quarantine after they were transferred out.

  • I thought it was just me who couldn't find the button. Next best thing to fact check is to go to this post 😂 It's been 18 mins past now. Wonder who will eventually get the voucher

  • what's the css class for the button? So I can search it in the console

    • There is no button though. It's not hidden

    • button-heavy_large button_generated

    • It's dynamically generated by the looks of it

      <a href='' class='button-heavy_large button_generated apply-link ' role='button'></a>

    • It's not hidden.

  • Incompetence. Should we expect anything more?

    • +1

You're here, I suspect you expected it to possibly work

      • Yeah, I guess I expected more.
        I was wrong.

        • We all did, lol

  • Anyway my time done I'm out .

  • +3

Lucky I'm wfh and don't have work to do, I can play this game all day if required.

    • it was either refreshing my stock market screen all day or refreshing this….

    • "Apply Now" button hunting?

  • "If any information in the registration is found to be false or misleading, any grant awarded to the applicant will have to be repaid on demand by the Victorian Government." — what an irony

    • +2

      troll much?

    • Don't play with our mental health

  • FFS, I'm giving up..

  • +1

Vic govt should also pay for the time we're spending on Business Vic website

    • I.e. taxpayers. I think they've wasted enough taxpayer money

  • This site can’t be reachedThe web page at https://www.business.vic.gov.au/support-for-your-business/gr… might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

  • where is the button for apply?

    • Mate, we are all searching for it. LOL!!

      • it's still a race of who can find it first …. get set!

    • +2

Lol. Welcome to the internet, you must be new here!

  • +1

prob 10am in whatever country they outsourced it too :)

  • +2

they are trying to filter out the people, so only the most dedicated are going to get the button. hahahhaa.

    • They've decided this one is for all the middle class professionals who have time while working from home to f5 all day, they thought they'd give something to those who have received nothing throughout covid.

  • +3

Looking in the page source, it looks like there's stuff there… but empty.

    <div class='content'> <a href='' class='button-heavy_large button_generated apply-link ' role='button'></a> <a href='' class='button-shaded button_generated saved-link ' role='button'></a> </div>

    • Various scripts that should run on the page are failing with HTTP 500s as well, possibly the underlying cause of the button not showing up. Why the static resources aren't being served from a CDN IDK.

    • where is that button positioned? Near the top or bottom?

      • Closer to the bottom.

  • 25 mins past - still waiting…

  • +1

Chrome giving me all kinds of new error messages for the URL now. ERR_INVALID_RESPONSE

Having more luck refreshing with Firefox, but still no apply button.

I haven't been to a music gig all year but at least I'm getting that familiar ticketmaster experience

  • I can't work out if you apply for a voucher first then book accommodation or if you have to book and pay first then claim the voucher. Does anybody know?

    • Doesnt matter, but vouchers are limited to periods.

    • +1

first step is to find "apply now" button

    • Either will work, so long as the booking falls within the eligibility period.

I'd say the voucher is your priority now, given how fast they'll disappear.

    • Book and pay first, claim later

    • +1

Either is fine as long as you have the receipt / tax invoice to show. But doesn't matter since there's no apply button anyway :)

    • Book first. Once approved, you can then book your accommodation/tours/etc to fulfill the $400 min spending requirement

  • +2

You can use the following web extension to monitor for any changes. There's a false positive however when server returns "500 Internal Server Error"
    https://distill.io/kb/help/distill-chrome-extension/?utm_sou…

    • Interval frequency is limited to 6 hours on the free version though, 3-4 checks a day isn't really worth automating.

  • Has anyone looked at the javascript? Maybe the URL is in there

  • +1

Must’ve used the same company who organised the hotel security to set this up

    • We need an inquiry!!
