Cheapest price ever, I think cashback is also available, only downside is slightly long delivery time of 2 weeks, with 5600x now around $540, this is getting better in value

    Screw it.. I can’t be bothered waiting for a 5900X anymore, at that price it leaves more money to try and get an RTX 3080.
    I don’t think I’ll notice anything lacking by choosing a 5800X over a 5900X even with VR or steam link (which would use GPU).

    Got it the 5600X for around $480 a few weeks ago, seller was Australia AU though. Be careful buying things from Amazon US, if you have issues with it, Amazon AU won’t help you with a replacement and requires you to send it back to Amazon US for a refund only.

        I’d prefer a straight replacement, especially if you bought it at a discounted price. Getting a refund would suck if the price for the 5800x increases and you have to buy it again but at a higher price.

        Hi how did that work? I had to return to Amazon UK recently and needed to pay shipping to UK. I think they said something a bout reimbursement up to $30 for shipping some how but your way sounds much nicer.

          Annoyingly, parcel point returns are only available for returning items sold by Amazon US, not Amazon UK. Wish I’d been aware of this before having to return an item ordered sold by Amazon UK.

      Nope so if you buy something from Amazon us and it's faulty, you return it back to Amazon us, then you can go and buy the exact same item from Amazon au, then message their live chat and they'll credit the difference back to your account

          well that's the recommended way to do it, you can also do this method though slightly dodgy, the outcome is similar enough

          buy one from Amazon AU, then return your faulty one that you got from Amazon US to Amazon AU order

      Yeah, i was lucky, i got mine at F1Tech at chatswood for $469, they're a tiny shop so their stock doesnt show on websites, but they had multiple 5600x's and by my count over 10 RTX 3000 series cards. Would recommend someone check them out. Everywhere was out of stock except them, but i feel like no one knows about them. If people check lemme know ahaha

      This isn't a real cpu though, just as 3800x was not a cpu anyone ever bought. So you are comparing prices of a cpu that nobody would normally buy with a cpu that nobody bought. When they release 5700x and 5600 everyone that bought the other chips will start crying

      I guess it depends on exactly what you are editing with what applications… Hardware unboxed and gamers nexus do very good comparisons for productivity work… The consensus was 5600x for gaming and 5900x for productivity… I think you can also get away with a 3900X as mentioned above

          5900X is hard to find in stock, and when it is in stock the prices can be a bit mad. If you can find a reasonable 5900x go for it. But between a 5800x and 3900x - which are a similar price - if you're doing video editing the 3900x has lots more multicore grunt than the 5800x.

      Depends on your cooling, I can run mine at 4.75hghz at 1.425V all cores and temp never exceed 85 on Cinebench r23 30 minutes test and that's a pretty high voltage but then again my cooling is very extensive

                @ln28909: its in NR200 not worried about the thermals even if i do a light OC, with stock cooler it's been hitting 4.7 in benchmarks using PBO… thermals do hit around 85c though but yeh… pretty impressive these new Zen3's considering the lame cooler that is on it.. if only i could cable manage the friking thing it'd be a perfect itx case.. lol

        I downvoted the original comment because of this, it has been stated multiple times by AMD, Zen 3 itself is designed to run that way. The better cooling you give it, the more it will push itself. You put a bad cooler, under full peak maximum load it will hit 90, you put a great cooler, it will also hit 90. But with higher voltages and higher overall core speeds. You can change it around the BIOS to target less temps if that's what you want I believe, but don't be concerned about the chip itself reaching higher temps.

          This ^. I originally had doubts about my 5800x purchase too until I read more into the situation. While it is true that 5800x has more concentrated heat and more power available per core, its nowhere as disastrous. With the latest AGESA 1.1.8.0, AMD introduced Curve Optimizer and I was able to gain another 400-500 points on R23/MT - final score 15753. All I did was test some negative number on the VF curve and I'm not even pushing it yet. But guess what, it still hit 90C and stayed there along with performance increase. That didn't stop until I introduce limits to the temperature and EDC/power values. Now I effectively configured into an undervolted state and still hit stock performance. During gaming it is hitting 4850MHz (probably mix of single threads) and temperature hovering around mid 60s-70s (depending on game) without temp/EDC limits.

            @Whomastadon: Yes, and I believe that applies to the whole lineup. And every chip is different too, some chips will be able to post with higher speeds, at lower voltages. It's just silicone lottery. You buy what's in YOUR budget always, you get the cooler you can afford and the CPU you can afford, and just be happy with whatever you get out of them, which is most likely a significant upgrade over whatever you're upgrading from (considering you upgrade every 2 to 5 years depending on each person).

          This is a great feature to see really, it's great to see chips automatically taking advantage of the headroom that exists in multiple aspects, and within the silicon health profile that it's aware of. It's also good that AMD is learning that they need to communicate more about what behaviour is to be expected after the whole "OMG my CPU is hitting 1.5V" of Zen 2, and has released expected thermal and voltage ranges and communicated more about how these will challenge conventional wisdom. Though, there will always be some resistance like in that video.

          Value wise, I would say wait till boxing day and buy a 3700x or 3800x for ~$420 on eBay, these 5000 series cpu are not really value oriented

              @jdmdavid: The gain you're getting with 5600x is not significant, say you'll go from 150fps to 170fps, sure there is a gain but not that noticeable, and I firmly believe that more cores will benefit you in the long run

              So unless you play competitive fps at 1080p, I would recommend 3700x/3800x for value

    I was just researching what I should get for my next build few hours ago, and came across this.
    I'm aware it's not the same processor, but I would lean towards close temps on both since they both on 7nm arch. Also 5800x runs on slightly higher wattage.

          Not true, shortage is starting for 5800x too, if you want to assess stock situation , just check shopping express, if they sell at or below msrp then plenty, if they go above, then there's a shortage coming, and they just up the price pretty handsomely for this

                @ln28909: On the point of shortage, any point over the last 6 weeks bar the very last week, there was 5800x in stock everywhere. The point about price jacking is simply because of the supplier cost of these 5000 chips means very very little margin.

      I also got a 5600x for msrp on release. They were easily available for a while after release along with the 5800x. It was only the 5900x and 5950x which were hard to obtain. Interesting that they are all hard to get now.

      I think you need a history lesson and look at what an 8 core Intel CPU would have cost you in 2016-2017 prior to AMD introducing Ryzen into the marketplace.

      The way AMD has made their product stack, they're stilll including the 3xxx series cards as your mid range. The 5xxx series is your top end.

      5600x vs 3700x/3800x for similar pricing is a very real thing now where one is better for gaming and the other is slightly for productivity. 3600 still exists and is probably still the best bang for buck if you get it at the right price.

      Jokes aside, you're looking at another ~6 weeks before they (especially MSRP 6800 XT) become more widely available (hopefully sooner than that).
