      Why not use the bus?

They call me bus guy, lol.
The 2.0ch EKO soundbar is lit too.

        • Tell me more? Been looking for a value soundbar for my TV

          • @branners: I've bought a few sound bars in the past few months. Had to return them. They just weren't good enough. I'm going to find myself a good 2.1 Logitech speaker set instead.

If you want a soundbar, please get one with a subwoofer. They sound terribly weak otherwise.

          • @branners: They come in two versions, if you just want a Bluetooth sound bar for music or better TV voices go EKO 2.0ch, if you want the whole boom in movies get the 2.1 basically identical. No lcd screen only a light to show the modes. Audio is lush tho, Sound Of Silence by Disturbed on the 2.0 model sounds incredibly deep.

            • @Mickice: I watch mostly YouTube and find that suddenly it can be way too loud when people shout or there's gunshots or whatever. Does a soundbar fix this problem?

              • @belongsinforums: Not really, best way to fix that is sit closer to the speakers with lower volume. What you need is dynamic range compression.

                • @Mickice: How do I get that?

                  • @belongsinforums: You have to buy a 5.1 channel home theatre system, then turn up the volume of the centre speaker which is used for dialog. This is the only reliable method I have found. Sometimes I even have to change the dialog volume from movie to movie, sound mastering is often very inconsistant.

                    • +1

@Dogsrule: i have z logitech 5 speaker setup somewhere. the cords just became a bit of an eyesore and a nuisance. anyway by the sounds of what ur saying, a soundbar wont fix my problem. thanks for the heads up

              • +2

@belongsinforums: Loud action scene Vol vs quiet dialogue has been an issue since CRT tellys, never been many good fixes. This tv doesn't have smart volume but have found it works with various success anyway. I did have an receiver that did a decent job of night/quiet mode however.

I've got a Samsung soundbar and everything works properly with CEC and ARC etc basically, obviously improves The sound a lot. Get one with a sub is the recommendation

    • thnx for the tip

Uber drivers will refuse if it’s a short trip like 5 min, not worth the time and damage, call a removals or something.

    • You can always balance it on 2 shopping trolleys, and wheel it home.

    • Got one of these during the first round when they went on sale, still going great.

If purchasing in store can arrange delivery too, cheaper than online delivery.

    • +1

Thanks for the tip, what size cars do Uber XL use? Would I have to tip the driver for carrying a TV?

      • +1

We're not a tipping culture. They generally use vans. But if the driver helps you lift it then by all means tip

        • +1

          Thanks for the advice!

    • +3

Hitachi, Hisense and TCL all market a QLED also - and that's just from the Good Guys range

        • +24

Stands for "Quantum dot" as well. Samsung is not the only member of the QLED Alliance. Do some research before making absolute claims or false accusations.

Edit: Eko and other cheaper brands likely buy the rejected panels from bigger more premium companies.

      • -4

Likely reject Samsung QLED panels. They are runs that did not pass Samsung’s QA dead pixel rate etc and most likely fine. The other difference is the various processors and software each company uses.

        • Actually, BOE is also shipping TV sized quantum dot LCD panels.

    • Doesn't Sony also use quantum dots but they call it triluminos?

  • +2

No stock in and around Brisbane

    • Most of the TVs shown on the site are in stock near St Lucia. Do they even sell TVs?

Wait for HDMI 99.2 in 3030.

    • +3

      Why the down votes?

This TV claims to have HDR and 60hz 4K, I thought that HDR was 10 bit colour and that HDMI 2.0 couldn't do 10 bit colour 4K at 60hz?

I did a bit of a search but it seems now that HDMI 2.1 is out those results have filtered to the top so I had difficulty finding out whether I'm remembering what I've read/heard or not. Can someone more knowledgeable fill me in?

      • +7

HDMI 2.0 supports 4k / UHD at 50/60Hz with 10 bit colour using 4:2:2 chroma subsampling.

        HDMI 2.0 has a bandwidth of 18.0Gbps.

        4K 60 4:4:4 (no HDR) = 17.82Gbps

        4K 30 4:4:4 10b-HDR (no 60fps) = 11.14Gbps

        4K 60 4:2:2 10b-HDR (no 4:4:4) = 17.82Gbps

        4K 60 4:4:4 10b-HDR = 22.28Gbps

      • It does have hdr 10mbit at 60htz… i mean its a 65" budget qled that does the job well!

@$700 no regrets so far, its getting passed on as 75" has 3 dots on it ><

    • Which the standard is overkill on a TV of this level.

How is Big W a scam store exactly? Just because your impatient and aren't happy, Big W is a legitimate buisness.

You can get help at the service counter inside….

@CheapBrah: Are you sure you found the pickup zone? They’re usually in the car park out front. The loading zone is where stock gets delivered to.

Sounds like you went to the wrong place, cracked the shits and went home rather than just walk into the store.

              • +1

@freefall101: there was a sign at the pickup zone saying it was the pickup zone

              • @freefall101:

Sounds like you went to the wrong place, cracked the shits and went home rather than just walk into the store.

                I lol'ed.

        • +11

Ah yes, a multi-billion dollar store chain is a scam.

            • +2

              @CheapBrah:

No wonder this store will go under within the next 24 months.

              Yeah nah they won't.

This is what it says on their website:

Contactless Pick up - Direct to boot NEW <— I assume this is what you had.

We now offer a free Contactless Direct to boot service for your Pick up orders in over 80 of our stores across Australia. This service is now available at clearly marked external collection zones to our stores.

When you place a Direct to boot order, you’ll receive instructions on where to collect your order as it varies by store. The specific instructions will be included in the confirmation email you’ll receive when your order is ready to Pick up.

So what did it say in your confirmation email?

              • +2

@smartazz104: The confirmation email only said how to get to the collection zone. Though it was vague, and it was not "clearly marked" as the above text says.

I also had to click an "I've arrived" button once I had arrived which I did. There was also a sign at the collection zone to ring the doorbell, which I did many times over the 25 minute period I waited in the zone. I also called the store who said they'd send someone down, which never happened.

            • +1

@CheapBrah: So are you talking about your experience being a scam, or are you accusing the store of being a scam? The latter is not possible, as the store rakes in billions of dollars in revenue each year and hundreds of thousands of other customers have had a good experience.

            • -4

              @CheapBrah:

but it's one of the worst buying experiences of my life TBH.

Cry me a river, what a precious little child you are.

        • +2

Yeah vigW are a definite fly by night store.
I think in your case they took your $400 you paid for the TV and did a runner.
I hear of them packing up their 12 000 square foot retail spaces all the time just like instances such as this.

          • -2

@2024: Can confirm the entire Woolworths group operates like this. The workforce is 50% gypsy.

    • +5

You pay $700 for a tv and leave without it just because you waited 25 minutes? Did you get a refund?

      • -1

This was after driving 30km to get there and driving around the shopping center for 10-15 mins to find the contactless pickup bay that had no signs and was hidden in a loading zone.

A point comes where you have to cut your losses, I couldn't spend my whole day trying to pickup the TV.

No refund yet or reply to my emails.

        • +7

So you drove 30 KM (assuming 45min??) then another 15min, so 1 hour invested in picking up a TV, you couldn't spend another 5 min walking into the store to pick up or get an immediate resolution. Instead, you drove back home and sent emails trying to get a refund?

          • +1

@BlinkyBill: Cut your losses dude. It's just $700. Better off going back to work and earning that during his next 30 minute paid shit…

This whole story seems surreal to me, and honestly makes me angry that such petty entitled people live outside of America

        • +1

How about parking in the lot and walking into the store with your receipt? They would have obliged delivering it straight to your car or you could have carted if to your car itself. Or worst scenario just asked for a refund.

Drive through pickup fail sometimes, happens at Maccas too. You just don’t give up and drive back home.

Seems like you made zero effort to resolve the issue real-time instead you drove home and now willing to spend hours writing emails or phoning them to get a refund.

I know right, has anybody even checked their ABN to see if they are legit? Name doesn't even make sense.

      • +5

The W in big w stands for woolworths

        • I always thought W is world. You have opened my mind.

    • Are you sure you rang the bell at the store, or some pickup joint?

    • +2

I bought the TV in this deal via click and collect. Decided to go and pick up the TV well before my allotted pick up time, right after I ordered in fact, to make sure no one bought it before they'd picked it for me.

The girl at the counter happily put through the pick up for me and had it ready at the loading dock for me to pick up.

I rang the bell at the loading dock and there was a guy there, he was a bit annoyed that I was at the loading dock so early in the morning, but he carried it to my car for me and helped me put it in.

Now I'm not sure, have I been scammed? What should I do? Please help.

      • But this guy needed contactless.
And he couldn't get help, because then he would have to be in contact with someone which defeats the point.
Like he said, better off just accepting your losses.

        • I don't doubt they had a shit experience and that Big W should have done better. They don't even have contactless at my store and didn't even during the lockdown in Vic which is BS. But call it what it is. They know it's not a scam, it's really shit customer service. They're entitled to feel angry about it and to get a refund and never shop there again, but calling Big W a scam store makes them look ridiculous

Edit: They say it's contactless, but you have to get out of your car and go and talk to people, including lining up with others at busy times.

      • Yes. Unfortunately, this is an example of the all too common 'pay and get your item scam.' It's such a convincing scam you don't even realise you've been scammed.

You should cut your losses now and take a sledgehammer to the TV. Better you take a $700 hit now, rather than the potential for more in the future.

  • +2

You walk into the damn store if nobody arrives as if you left without getting your money back LOL

    • Defeats the point of contactless though.
He should have called, asked them to put it in a specific spot he could see, then he drives around the corner until they are completely gone again, then go pick up the TV……

Seems easier to wear a mask and do what you said

Bought one of these last month for the man cave. Very happy with it.

    • How is the Android TV speed?

      • +1

Fast as reported on previous deals of the same brand in other sizes

      • android is fast. i have 75 inch and wish there was a bigger one for the price

        • +1

Wish I have 75 inches too but not fast though. Wife is complaining…

      • No drama here

  • The 55” is listed at the same price. Surely a mistake?

    • Nah the 55 inch is $599 (vs $699 for this).

  • +4

Anyone who has one of these or seen them both in store know how the non-QLED $399 50 inch model compares? Is it a lot worse?

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/eko-50-4k-ultra-hd-android-t…

    • Interested also

    • +2

Seen them both, bought QLED version, much better picture quality in 4k. Standard channels looked kinda same. Have a frame TV and a top of the line panasonic. HDR 4k stuff looks amazing in this.

      • +1

Seen them both, bought QLED version, much better picture quality in 4k.

I have the 65" non-QLED version ($559 Boxing Day '19 - probably my favourite deal from last year) where as my mate has the 65" QLED version ($749 Sep '20). There isn't any difference in picture quality in 4K. The "QLED" makes no difference tbh. And in fact his QLED model has very noticeable corner vignetting compared to mine. The QLED version also has no additional Bass/Treble adjustments (only equaliser) and doesn't sound as good as the non-QLED. The non-QLED speakers are surprisingly decent enough to not need a soundbar.

    • +1

I bought the 50 inch 2 days ago and am super happy so far.
Anything I watch (Netflix,YouTube, normal channel stuff 7,9 etc), I watch it through the new Google tv chrome cast thing plugged into the tv and I think the picture quality is great.
Where I live, most standard tv tuner channels aren’t HD so the picture ain’t that flash.

  • +1

    No stock

  • Thanks. Picked up, missed it last time. (VIC)

  • Which suburb in Sydney has stock?

    • Only store with stock is in Campbelltown. Low stock though so get in quick.

      • no stock now, found some stock in green hill, let see how long that last.

  • Does anyone know the EKO QLED Calibration Settings?

I have the picture setting on cinema / movie mode but video looks pale and unnatural (like a lot of make up or embalmed body)

    • +3

I applied these settings as were posted in the other thread, seems fine. Adjust backlight to suit the room.

For live tv (this is for my EKO 65" non-QLED)

      Backlight: 100
      Brightness: 55
      Contrast: 50
      Saturation: 40
      HUE: 0
      Sharpness: 5
      Gamma: Bright
      Colour Temperature: all 0
      Advanced Video
      DNR: Low
      MPEG NR: Low
      Adaptive Luma Control: Off
There's some auto contrast setting here for the QLED model that I turned off (can't remember the exact name)
      DI Film Mode: Off
      Blue Stretch: Off
      Game Mode: Off
      PC Mode: Off

For other inputs I have it the same but the saturation turned to 50, sharpness 10 and the noise reduction off

      • +1

Those were my settings that I posted :) But I have since turned down the brightness to 50.

        • That's right, Cheers.
I haven't played around with them since really.
This room isn't too light so backlight is good around 40 overall, still got brightness 55.

        • Thank you for posting

I observe that red colour does not come out as pure red but different shade of red more like a blend of purple / pink. Do have the same issue?

Did you leave the Color Tuner On or Off ?

If On, then what were the settings ?

          • @utsc:

Did you leave the Color Tuner On or Off ?

My one is the non-QLED which doesn't have the Color Tuner setting. My mate's one is the QLED version which I did set up. But yeah Color Tuner was set to On but everything is set to the default 50 anyway.

I observe that red colour does not come out as pure red but different shade of red more like a blend of purple / pink. Do have the same issue?

Have you set the main saturation level (not the one in Color Tuner) down to 40 (I think default is 50)? If so, then you can try putting it higher to what you like. Otherwise you can delve further into the Color Tuner settings. Probably play around with the Saturation of the Red or Flesh Tone (common issue with these cheaper TVs to have pinkish skin tones).

        • Just coming back to these settings, the tv input should remember different settings to HDMI 1 etc?

          • +1

@G-rig: Yes, I believe that's how mine has been working

      • Any issues with video stops streaming occasionally ? Bought one as a secondary tv n facing some youtube video stops on it's and then have to press the play button again. Not sure if it's the tv or youtube app. It also stopped once while watching news on abc iview app.
