EKO 65" 4K QLED TV at the introductory price of $749 from BIG W.

EKO TVs have a pretty good rep in other OzBargain threads. This appears to be their first QLED model and has a "normal" price of $1199.

The plain LED models are usually $699 so for an extra $50 this seems a no brainer to me.

The only downside I can see is the 12 month warranty. We bought using a credit card to get the extra 12 months warranty that most cards offer. Alternatively you could pay with discounted gift cards to save another $37 and take your chances with ACL and BIG W in the event of a problem within the second year.

I picked mine up this afternoon and the guy at the loading dock said they'd already sold five this morning, which was totally unprecedented, so the word is out.

Will update when it's set up but if its a total dog I'm confident I can get a refund from BIG W without any dramas.

  • saw heaps of them in-store, display quality is not bad at all for this price range

    • Aldi 65" is $599, how would it compare? I was looking at Hi-Sense 75", tho more expensive.

After seeing the picture quality on my mates LG 65" which he paid around $1,500 it was amazing.

Go Hisense. Very good bang for buck.
It will give you a higher sense of what's good picture quality.

        • +17

I see what you did there

        • +24

Just be mindful that Hisense OS is junk. Apps missing (they never update app store for new apps) and rarely gets software updates.

        • +1

          Try Sony?

          • @VestMogen: Not at RRP

          • -8

@VestMogen: Sony are crap imo. Never had a Sony product that lasted long.

            • +8

@chrisharry53: I'm rocking an almost 9 year old 1080p 55" Bravia that has shown no sign of getting anywhere near its end of life. Perhaps you've just had back luck.

              • +1

@Slave1: I had a super old ex display model Sony Bravia, lasted years then sold to an old Co-worker. Probably still works.

              • @Slave1: Really bad luck. $2200 TV bought in 2015 died after 4 years. Panel shot.

          • @VestMogen: Samsung

        • Ya i liked hisesne bright vibrant coloursbwith no lag. Def would pay bit extra for hisense

      • What aldi 65”? The one they had over a month ago where you had to be there at opening time to try and get one?

      • +4

if a 1500 lg looked amazing to you than you would cream your pants if you saw an OLED CX

  • -2

Any chance this has HDMI 2.1?

    • +40

Without looking at the specs I would say no chance.

    • +4

      Lol

    • Oh looool hahahah

    • Dreamin

    • 😂 you made me laugh 😂 😂😂

    • LOL

    • I don't understand why ppl down voted you?? You have great sense of humor :))

  • This or TCL 50" P715 for 600$ at TGGC?

    • +7

Why would you compare a 50" and a 65" ? Quite different sizing.

      • I agree, make your mind up on the size you want, then compare products. It's just too confusing otherwise. You could compare $/inch but that's a bit silly.

      • i understand what he is comparing although he chose the wrong tv, he should have said c715 qled from ebay for $719 for a 50" with 3 year warranty vs this 65" a lesser known brand with a crappier remote and only 1 year warranty (cant comment on picture neither) etc which is a fair comparison since they are in the same price range so you choose a smaller better tv with 3 years warranty vs a shittier tv which is 15" bigger with 1 year warranty

    • -1

      TCL 50" P715 is $795 not $600.

      • On TGGC its 597$

    • +1

      No QLED.

      • Didn't notice that, good point.

  • +3

    I can see a frame?

    • +24

      You don't need specsavers.

  • +2

Seems this is the general sentiment - "is the remote control very slow and unresponsive at times that's annoying and seems to be a common issue"..

but any more reviews how this is , from those who have used / using it ?

    • friend of mine has this issue. Slow and often unresponsive remote controller. Or even worse…. hang.

    • -8

      This

    • +50

      "a bit more"
      4.5 times the price

      • +17

Yeah I don’t understand why and how people say a bit more when the bit is 4 times the price.

        • You literally just said the same thing as mrjaytee, just reworded.

        • +16

          ……..It's not a bit more

        • Amen

      • -1

There are plenty of oleds on the market for a few hundred more 2nd hand. Having bought a cheapy new myself its just not worth it.

      • I am hoping he was being sarcastic.

    • +16

That's like saying you should not buy a Camry, instead save for an Audi. Completely different markets.

      • -4

Although an audi a number years old is almost the price of a camry which is the point being made here.

        • +2

          lmao, what?

      • although i would not put this in the cateroy of a camry, i would say great wall, a camry would be a hisesnse or TCL in this regard, and your shitty audi would be like a samsung or LG or sony (which are not as shitty as an audi, i would replace the word audi with lexus)

      • +14

@paintoad, Orly? 480 looks trash on mobile, let alone a 55/65" inch TV

      • +7

I see why you're in pain now. You're stuck on a shitty setup

      • +1

It's definitely effected your movie experience. How the hell can you watch that ? 😂

        • 480p is DVD quality which was top of the range awhile ago, still watchable

          • +3

@Homr: When TVs were much smaller

          • @Homr: I made the mistake of comparing a DVD copy of one of the Daniel Craig James Bond's with a Blu-ray copy on a (4K capable) Sony (The year before they went to android OS model) 55" a few years back.
That ruined 480 anything for me thereafter

          • @Homr: If it's all that is available, sure, but most content is available in full HD.

      • +2

Your eyes must be painted on

      • +1

What did effect it? I find it's normally the decision to turn on the tv.

      • That would not work on my projector

      • +1

im gonna pretend I never read that sh!t comment

      • No worries Stevie.

  • can the remote voice command change normal free to air channels or does it just work for google online stuff? my dad is vision impaired, this would suit him. thx

    • +2

I have a sony bravia 4 k android tv and my google assistant opens the free view channals as well as any apps through voice.

      • +3

How do you switch tv channels? What voice command?

  • -4

    OOOOOFT… 60Hz - no bueno

    • It’s okay I’m planning to use it for productivity (Excel, Word mainly), not gaming.

      • +3

you use a 65" display for productivity :O first time I hear this

  • +11

Samsung's QLEDs did not do much to bridge the gap between the two technologies (LED and OLED) and in some ways even regressed in performance

QLED is practically LED, but the name sounds better.

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-type/qled-vs-oled-vs-le…

    • -1

You are right…but it depends where you will use your TV. OLED is better choice if you watch TV in Dark Room. QLED is more suitable in living room areas.

      • -2

That's true but most have curtains or blinds to use when they use their tv so that statement does get old..

        • +4

‘Most people’ probably do not draw their blinds so they can watch tv…

    • +3

Generally speaking, LED LCD tech is fine for most people.

      • I just purchased a new model samsung tv and I am very happy with the picture and the smart features are fantastic. This is coming from a plasma I have been using for 10 years. I was unsure about lcd technology after watching heaps of YouTube videos on qled and oled but in the end I couldn't justify the price of oled.

        • what did u end up buying and the price? care to share pls?

          • @lknight: Bought a two year old Samsung 55" UHD off of the neighbour for $300 because they were upgrading. You can find probably similar bargains if you look around.

    • Exactly! And LED us still just LCD. The lights behind the panel have gotten a bit better. The panel brightness has gotten better as well.

    • -1

      No it isn’t lol

    • +1

Something that article doesn't cover is what QLED actually does: it improves colour volume for LCD. OLED improves colour volume but also offers per pixel dimming.

QLED without FALD is not a good HDR experience, it's just got an improved colour volume, and not one that people would really notice that much.

Big W in WA must be so crap. They hardly stock anything that is posted on Ozbargain. Sad.

    • +1

Don't trust the website, call or walk into your local. I've seen stock in a WA store of this one.

  • I bought a 50 inch TV of this brand one year ago. Still working fine. Android O/S on that is very slow though.

  • +1

EKO. Hopefully this TV doesn't take an Eary Knock Off after the warranty expires.

  • +1

This is tempting for the parents.

I'm personally waiting for LGCX 48 inch cos of ps5 and Xbox life

Or if Samsung Q80 goes on special then I'll pull trigger on that.

  • Good QLED panels are actually really nice with great colour reproduction and brightness but not sure about panel quality for this one (unusually low price for a 65"…). But on the bright side, can't be worse than the 10 year old LCD my grandfather watches on in aged care, which more than does the job for people like him.

    • I bet his 10 year old fat LCD has better sound than any modern TV, which matters particularly to older people.

      • +1

The sound on my samsung tv I recently purchased is surprisingly good, I would say as good or better than my 10 year old plasma.
