Budget Gaming PC: R5-3500X GTX 1660 Super (B450/16G): $828 + Delivery @ TechFast

860
3500X-1660S-JAN

Mixed response to last PC deal from TechFast but Rep Luke has GTX1660 Super coming in early February, so this has a much better gaming spec for just over $200 more.

Enjoy :)

  • Ryzen 5 3500X
  • GTX 1660 Super (Luke confirmed Asus and MSI being used)
  • B450M motherboard (Asus and Biostar being used)
  • 16GB 2666MHz RAM
  • 240GB SSD
  • 550W PSU
  • Leaper Air Mini RGB case

It'll play the majority of games in 1080P at great frames and is suitable for entry level VR.

        thanks

Will it play Skate or die! in 1080p?

I got this set up in July last year, love it, though I double the RAM and the Storage…

It would cost more with shipping to source the cheapest parts from different retailer. Rather than to try and get a deal for everything from one store.

  • +1

    is it expandable?

    • +5

On the website? Yes upgrade options are listed.

In the future? The B450 motherboard is compatible with Zen 2 and Zen 3 CPUs so you could upgrade to a Ryzen 5000 series CPU. Beyond that you would need the B550 or X570 chipset. X570 is ATX so wpuld require a case upgrade.

You could sub in a newer GPU too, just be aware that the maximum GPU length in the standard case is about 220mm.

      • thanks

      • -1

There are ITX and mATX boards for X570.

        • +4

          Not through us though :)

This seems really good, I'm planning on buying a system later in the year and trying to grasp more knowledge. Can someone tell me why this seems so cheap other than the 240gb of storage?

    • +1

because its all last generation parts.

      • +2

Even still, seems a good deal bang for buck-wise

        • +6

$/perf is best at the lower end and these guys are the kings of value

        • -8

PSU will probably be generic garbage and probably need to be replaced, ram is slow for Ryzen, case isnt great and probably lacks airflow and storage is too small.

          So factor in
          New PSU - $100
          2TB HDD - $90
          Better Ram $100

          You're looking at 200-300 more

In saying that if you just want a cheap computer to play some games, this would definitely fit the bill.

          • +5

@Fergy1987: Don't know why everyone's negging you—this seems about right. Although the PSU will probably be "good enough", and a 1TB NVMe for ~$100 is better than the 2TB hard drive. Factor in selling the parts you swap out and you'll end up with about $100 net cost. Still a very good price.

    • +2

TechFast is probably one of the better places to buy computers for cost compared to performance in addition to being sufficiently reliable (yes some computers won't work out of every few hundred but from what I can tell they are fair in replacing and repairing their systems), there are varied reasons beginning with the really questionable pricing found in most chain brand stores, but also specifically because TechFast will minimise costs by selecting which parts are given emphasis for quality and which are deemed to be more economical. If you're new to buying computer systems or have been out of the loop it can help to watch different deals being listed over the course of a few months to see how TechFast and other businesses in this section organise and present computer options

that said as best I can tell this looks like a really good 'budget' pc, similar computers can be found on JB-HiFi's website for around $1000 more

      • I got a lemon and DOA. But always happy for me to send in and get repairs and replacement parts.

  • +3

immediately beats the deal few posts earlier

    • They have matched prices plus another $10 off for new customers

      • I couldn't get the $10 off.

      • +1

Sorry, to clarify, the BPC tech deal has the $10 off for new customers

    • This is what I was looking for.

Because the AMD is better than the Intel?

  • +5

I have basically have this PC (purchased from TF), but got the mobo with the m2 slot and added a m2 hard drive.

Runs everything perfectly. I mainly use it to play CS GO (200-300FPS), but my kids use it for VR and some other games like R6 Siege, Fortnite, GTA V and run it on all the highest possible settings.

    • 1080p is good? or bad?

    • Thanks danstar… how many fps do you get gta 5 at?

      • +1

I recently uninstalled it cos the kids don't play it anymore, but he said it ran much smoother and better looking than on his ps4 pro

  • +1

Will this enable playing of E.T. the Extra-terrestrial The Game?

    • +14

May require extra $2-3k for a trip to the New Mexico desert

  • +1

Mmmmmmm same price as BPC Tech…… Coincidence…….

    • +2

Yeah I know. How how do they fair between each other? What's better?

      • +1

Techfast nickname is "techslow", bpc tech is new here so they have no nickname yet

  • Good for watching movies?

  • +2

    5600x/3080/B550 deal?

    • +1

      Not until supply improves

      • Do you think that is far off?

        I'm keen as well

        • +2

TBH if we had clarity on the timing we'd probably post a deal and say buy now, these are the timings you're looking at so get in the queue - but no firm word as yet.

  • +1

Would this run Path of Exile well?

    • Check what the min spec says in Steam *shrug. from memory it's not a demanding game so this should run it fine at 1080p

    • +1

      It should with ease.

  • +2

You wouldn't want anything less than 3200mhz Ram with a Ryzen. should've been offered as a minimum spec and increase the price by just 10-20 *shrug

    • I think it's the mobo that limits the ram, but I agree.

      • +1

not on b450, or even a320. No memory limit on am4.

        • A320 may have a limit of 3200mhz, which is a decent speed for Ryzen. None on B450 as far as I'm aware, provided you are happy with OC/XMP setting

          • @Doomedgrind: Biostar A320 has a 2667 limit for most variants I think.

I got the 1660 non super and A320 version of this last year from TF and I am pretty sure the upgrade to 3200 ram also required a mobo upgrade at the time.

  • Where can I find a good deal on Windows 10 for a system like this?

      • -1

Wow that's ridiculous pricing! Like too good to be true! I hope it's not while last

        • it is almost always the same price here, I've bought 3 licenses so far myself so they are legit

      • +3

This is obviously pirated keys, RRP for Win10 Pro is $339.
Don't pay a pirate $6 for non genuine keys… either pirate yourself for free, or pay Microsoft for their work.

        • Yep! I was a little sussed. Too good to be true!

    • You'll rarely find a real deal for Windows. It's very easy to pirate, so if you're not going to pay proper for it you're better off just pirating it yourself.

    • +2

It's actually free if you don't mind the watermark

  • +1

Will this be shipped within an acceptable time frame?. eg less then 4-5 weeks?.
Techfast has been pretty slow recently and delays in orders are super common.
But I guess it depends on the patience of the customer.

    • -2

Yep, they will. Cards are expected in early Feb after being out of stock nationwide since December. Nothing else required on our end.

      • +2

You'll have to forgive me if I am a bit skeptical.
But it's not like I can confirm or deny your words.
Hopefully some comments pop up regarding the date of when they obtain their pc's.

  • just wondering if this motherboard has a m.2 slot?

    • Yep it does

  • Would this run Oxygen Not Included and Satisfactory? Even Cyber Punk? I'm Mac based and it would be great to have an occasional PC option.

    • +1

cyber runs dogshit no matter what, give it 6 months at least. not to mention CDPR ethical issues.

      • 4th gen i5 with a GTX 1070 and it's flawless. The trick is to change the graphics from Ultra to High ;)

        • So is that a yes? Cyber punk isn't a requisite but I just wondered how it would handle something like this - would it be future proof enough? I mostly want to play ONI late game and a number of PC strategy games including Satisfactory.

          • +1

@jahar: This would run it at medium-high at 1080p.

        • +1

5600x with 1660 super temp card. Cyberpunk runs OK on Med-High 1080p. ~57 to 65fps

      • +1

Can confirm. I have a 3090 and even that cant run it on full max everything unless you put DLSS on (and I think DLSS just makes it look worse than native re with RT off)

    Hi Techfast

Can you guarantee an Asus B450M upon request?

Further, if the B550 upgrade is chosen, what board do we get?

    Thanks.

    • I can't 100% guarantee but we will certainly do our best if you request it in the Notes field during checkout, as we have plenty of Asus on hand. The B550 would be the Biostar B550MH.

      • Is there an option to purchase without a GPU? And if so what $ would I be looking at?

        • +1

Not for this system but we have this no GPU build running now

  • Hello, any news on the Boxing Day deals if they have been shipped yet. Also when will in store pickups begin to occur?
    Cheers, Matthew

    • I am not a techfast employee but I can probably give you an estimate.
Depending on when you bought it, it can be upwards of another 2-4 weeks (potentially more).
As a reference, I ordered mine directly at midnight on boxing day, so basically within hours of boxing day and my order won't arrive for another 2-3 weeks.
So yes…it's a extremely long wait and it's going to keep being a long wait. It's been painful.

      • I cant see any Boxing Day deal orders not being shipped within a couple of weeks. Plenty have shipped, many are in build and many will ship next week.

        • Luke…I heard that you guys don't even have my pc part's in stock…
"We have received word that stock for your build is arriving over the next week or two"
Add that wait onto build time and I can't see the wait being what you estimated.
And I was one of the first buyers of the boxing day deals…ordered within like an hour of its posting. (Maybe within even 30mins). That might even be generous.
I jumped (bought) on your pc deal before it even had 5 upvotes.

    • +1

Depends what you ordered and when, but should be soon. Happy to check if you PM me order details

      • I think Techfast's customer service and interactions with the community is amazing but your estimates are too optimistic.
It hurts to be given expectations only for them to be broken down.
I'll leave this here but I doubt anything will be done.

Thanks for your feedback. Just had word from MSI this morning regarding the case which was the only thing, so I will email you and the other customers about that with the options. As mentioned in the deal, we had MSI in our offices to discuss the deal and they gave us the assurances for these deals in person.

          • @luketechfast: Damn Luke. I just got the email. Honestly I am beyond impressed, you not only mananged to find the problem but provide a solution within less then 24 hours.
A+ customer service. Hopefully the other customers are happy about this as well.

            • @Kleki: Thankfully this time there is an alternative that allows everyone to move on instantly - not always that simple with high end CPUs or GPUs

  • Where and whats the coupon for the new customers?

    • where does it mention there's a new customer coupon?

  • @luke, bring a deal on Ryzen 3600 and RTX 3070. I can guarantee you one confirmed sale for that!

  • Managed to beat the previous competitor. Bought this thanks.
