  • just signed up to Spintel 12/1. Great price but no Perth POP so all trafic has to go to sydney first so can feel a delay over providers with a Perth POP. Guess its a way to save money for them

    • Yeah, just sign up with them too on the 100/40 plan. Coming from superloop I found that the lag from traffic going east first is noticeable as compared to Superloop own POP in Perth. So any streaming may get a bit of a lag, I do 4k streaming a bit so it is noticeable. Found that it is slightly congested during peak compared to Superloop which I never had any problem at any time, speed is constant. I will try go get back to Superloop once the 12 months is up, unfortunate that it went up from 6 months.

      • What do you mean 12 months is up? theres no contract

        • Sorry, what I mean is Superloop 12 months requirement before you can get the discount, if it's still available by that time. I was paying 89.95, and the special is on for new user at $74.95. Comparable to Spintel.

  • what are they like?

    Make or Break? :P

    • I’ve been with them for about 3 months now, after ported out from Superloop. Pretty good actually! Less dropouts in general.

    • Break!
i moved from ABB to Spintel was a mistake. Since there was no POP in Perth i jumped to Superloop with $20 off promo they got but trying to cancel Spintel was a pain in the butt. They don't want to let you go and when you call them they're oversea unlike ABB and SL and can hardly hear them. I explained to them why i'm leaving too. but yhey're still charging me a whole month of this November bill when i already switched to Superloop. Saying your monthly bill has already started. I won't be paying this month bill since i have not used it at all. Why did they say no contract then?! I would stay away from them you. Cheap unreliable service!

  • +4

Been with them for more than 3 months now. They are okay, but will jump ship when 6 months period up. Should limit the cost to less than $60

  • not seeing great value here.. I'm with Dodo NBN and get 100/20 for $75 a month.. which I just noticed will be dropped to $70 a month 100/20 unlimited as I also have gas and power supplied by Dodo.

    • +1

How is it 75? is the just because you have multiple services through them?

Also, the difference is that DoDo has 82mbps typical evening speed, where Spintel is 90mbps.

It's a decent difference if you're in the situation where you actually use your speed.

    • +2

Just one problem, you're with Dodo.

      • dead as a Dodo?

My Superloop 6mth promo just ended and I’ve constantly gone back-and forth between SL and ABB and never really had any problems with either.

At a saving of $20/mth though I’m tempted to give these guys a try. Anyone moved from ABB or SL and care to comment on the service and/or any issues?

We’re a big gaming and streaming family so any first hand feedback on how those hold up would be welcomed.

    • +5

I contacted their customer service via Live Chat and they were usually quite responsive and able to resolve my issues. And yes I’ve used ABB and Superloop previously.

      • +2

yea.. i also contacted them twice during my initial connection, they were quick to reply and they call back to make sure everything is in order.

      • Thanks for the reply. Sounds like they’re worth a shot.

    • We’re a big gaming and streaming family

Not first hand feedback but as long as those things come from local sources, such as not playing games on international servers or using VPN for Netflix then there shouldn't be much difference between ISPs.

      • Nah, just using a DNS service to change regions on Prime and Netflix etc.

    • +1

they only have a Syndey POP so ALL traffic has to get there first. you will notice a significat lag compared to Aussie or Superloop

      • Just like MyRepublic, only have Sydney POP.

At least Spintel is way better than MyRepublic in every ways, including peak hours as with MyRepublic they usually throttle traffic to 60 KB/s on Steam where Spintel doesn't and still do 90 Mbps. Live chat customer support is better with Spintel than MyRepublic

    • @plantbasedjonesy how do you organise dates moving between ABB & SL works for you? I'm with SL now and wanting to jump but trying to organise it so I can move at the end of the paid bills. Heard SL is not as responsive to cancel service. What's the best way to ensure new connection is setup at the end of termination ? Thanks

      • I normally put through an order for at least 3 business days prior to the end of the current billing cycle just in case there is issues with a churn. Generally on the first or second day it changes over and that's when I ring or email the old ISP to cancel to avoid billing for the next month.

A couple of times churns from SL have gone through and I received a text saying it looks like my service has been transferred and to message back if that's the case and they'll close the account. Just this time that was one day before the next billing period and I wasn't charged so they were and have always been responsive for me.

    Thanks OP!

Mum and Dad were on Spintel for years without any issues. We changed to Westnet's seniors plan when they were forced to sign up to NBN. Then covid hit and mum and dad need more data now as they're inside more, though 12/1 is more than enough for their needs. Currently, we've bumped up their plan to 500Gb but still 12/1 for $60/mth. But will sign them up to this WO offer at the end of their Westnet contract to reduce their costs. An ongoing $50/mth for unlimited 12/1 is looking pretty good atm… also not available via their main NBN plan selection page.

i've been with them since june 2019. nothing amazing but i'm not a huge gamer/streamer. just wanted a budget service (started off with 12/1 which was adequate coming from adsl) and it's fine when it works. when it doesn't work, their customer service (outsourced) can be hit & miss. some reps are great, some….you need to have a lot of patience for. my 18 month contract has since expired yet i'm still with them (now on the 25/5). they're good enough for me as i don't need super-fast or heaps of bandwidth but i'm hesistant to recommend to others

  • +2

Been using it for about 2 month now, so far so good, i had 2 drop outs, but found out it wasnt Spintel but NBNCo problem.

im on the 50/20 plan, cant really find much fault and speed wise pretty accurate.

    • agreed! housemate told me there was an dropout just after midnight but it was actually an unscheduled outage from NBN Co

  • +1

Been with spintel for 12 months now and all in all been very good. I am on the 25/5 plan and had no issues on buffering and extremely low number of dropouts. Would recommend them from my experience Referral is only via their website and the details of name and email have to be added.

    • With Spintel on their 4G modem plan for a long time, average customer service. Their 30d notice for disconnection is annoying. Also the referral system needs to be improved.

Edit: apparently no referral credit for nbn? https://i.imgur.com/vaGZOs4.png

      • I just confirmed with their customer support team through Live Chat - nbn is categorised under Fibre, so you'll still get $50 for referring a friend

Just signed up on Sunday and got an email on Monday asking for ULL Id. Isn't this default with the line connected to the premise? The worst bit is they email us for the tech info and request us to reply to their email. So we did and bloody hell "mail delivery error". Can't even reply their emails! Have just got on the phone with them for half an hour and still can't resolve this. So frustrating so have cancelled it right away. Signing up for internet is this hard these days!

  • Not better deals than Superloop.

  • I'm currently with Mate and looking at changing to Spintel. I believe Mate use Vocus.. Who does Spintel use, not that I really understand how that all works but I assume Vocus wholesale thier network. Are Spintel more like Superloop or ABB?

    • I would assume they also use Vocus.

    • +1

      it seems they use optus

    • Hows ur experience with mate. I just signed up, while i see good speed at speedtest. The actual download are very slow and if i go to fast.com to check it’s literally 3.5Mbps. Their support say there is no issue but i checked with friends in area with other providers ad they are getting 20Mbps on fast.com, so something is nor right in their Melb setup.

      • I had pretty good speeds and usually consistent. I have now changed over to Spintel and after a rough start it's been pretty good ave. 90/35mbps.
Mate portal was below par.. I know it's not something you don't use often but seriously ugly for a tech company.

  • Does anyone know long do they usually take to connect on active nbn line?

So far with other providers like Superloop, Mate etc it has taken only few hours to switch

    • +1

They told me 1-3 days. No idea why when others as you mentioned can do it almost instantly.

      • Thanks. It seems like its more of a manual process wit them

        • I put through an order today (late this afternoon) so we’ll see how that goes. My Superloop billing period ends Monday so hoping that it’s activated tomorrow or Friday.

          • +1

@ElectrkJonesy777: Just got connected myself in 24 hours.
Good thing is , it turned out to be 100/40 speed not 100/20 😊 So Spintel is cheaper and has better speed than the current Superloop deal

            • +1

@ujwols: that one reason why I join SpinTel, for the 100/40 haha but let see how long it will last as they are in progress of doing 100/20, or for new sign up from now.

              Not sure about existing customers

              • @jmytch: Just got connected to them but didn’t get 40Mbps upload even though contract says so :(

                • @pnsd: If I were you, I would contact SpinTel and get upload speed sorted, since it says in your contract.

            • +1

@ujwols: Yep, churned here also and up and running after about 18hrs. So far so good and $20/mth cheaper but I’ll reserve judgment for some peak time stream testing.

    • For me as existing FTTN customer, churning from one to another, took me 20 mins for my area.

Every one will have different time frames, and yes they don't do it on the weekend either. Best to do it from Monday or the following week days before Friday ;)

  • I have been with IInet for about 10+ yrs & paying $60 for their NBN 12 plan with 500GB. I am thinking is it time moving on to the other provider. With NBN in place, is it safe to assume the dropouts/ speed etc…should not be different between retailers. At worst, only customer service should be the wild card…..

    • I have tried various providers - ABB, MyRepublic, Tangerine, mate, Superloop and Spintel. Spintel is so far so good with far less dropouts! Tangerine and Superloop have the most frequent dropouts from my experience!

      • +1

Had at least 100+ dropout since I joined Spintel yesterday..this is ridiculous

        • That is interesting. This is what i keen to know, if the line itself is NBN so isn't the drop out means something wrong with NBN line OR is it do with retailer…I hardly have any drop outs with IINet….keen to know experience of others who opted for this deal..

May as well wait little for what others have to say…

          • @s0805: I’ve only been with them a little under 36hrs and it’s all good here, actually more stable than my Superloop connection was.

A family of 6 streaming and gaming during peak time and no dropouts, lag or connection to speak of.

YMMV but certainly no complaints here currently especially at $20 less per month than SL was.

          • @s0805: No it has not to do with nbn. I disconnected Spintel within a day and joined back mates. Zero dropout since I am connected to mates.

  • Please be aware Spintel doesn't provide you a public ip address, they use CG-NAT so if you are using service hosted on your local lan like email, vpn etc.over the internet. you won't be able to use it..

I didn't know this until I joined them.. now have been waiting since last 1 hour on the phone to get connected to their technical contact to see if they can put me off the CG-NAT..

On top of that I am getting internet disconnection every few minutes see below :

        Line 9: 2021-02-05 15:42:37 [6] PPP: Connect time 3.1 minutes.
    Line 32: 2021-02-05 14:53:41 [6] PPP: Connect time 10.7 minutes.
    Line 99: 2021-02-05 15:20:18 [6] PPP: Connect time 25.2 minutes.
    Line 139: 2021-02-05 15:33:44 [6] PPP: Connect time 12.0 minutes.

    Horrible experience .. AVOID

    • Did you end up being able to get off CG-NAT?

  • Seems like a good deal!

  • +1

Just in case you aren't aware, there's no refunds when you cancel your service with them, so better to cancel a day early than to be charged for another month, just before you're transferred over to your new service.

  • +1

    Just signed up, thanks OP.

  • Thinking of signing up with these guys….for those who have joined can u pl share the recent experience. what is the backup option if this turns out to be bad move….can i move out quickly?

    • TBH I’ve been with them for 5 months now and so far so good! Rarely have dropouts. No prorated billing as I remember so you have to call them to cancel before the next billing cycle.

    • +1

Same boat with makeorbreak, I would highly consider to stay with them after 6 months period lapsed. Only $5 more than the discount price. Been jumping around from one provider to another. Got to the point to settling down

  • Avoid these guys. Service drops every hour, high ping times. After 10days trying to sort they will charge you for the full month. And forget trying to speak with someone unless you have all day to he on hold

It isn't my link that is the issue as i was happy and stable with Superloop ajd Tangerine.

Now back at Superloop and link is stable as.

    • thanks. Are u in VIC?

      • +1

Yes. Ping time is understandable but disconnection i don't get, when it is the same last mile connection.

        • It seems like quite hit and miss from all the reviews…

  • BE VERY CAREFUL if you sign up with Spintel.

I switched to another provider on a very last day of the month. My Internet was moved, up-and-running with my new ISP on the same day. The thieves at Spintel didn't send me any notification of cancellation until the first day of next month (after 1 day). Then proceeded to charge me for a full new month of service which they clearly wouldn't going to provide me.

I contact them and some agents from the Customer support team which they outsourced 100% to Philippines helped me to raise a billing dispute (assuming with Aussie lazy arses), which after 2 weeks, the billing team happily told me that they would steal my money without providing service according to their terms. At least the girls and guys from Philippine's call/chat centres were nice and tried to be helpful.

I'm going to dispute the charge via my Credit Card provider and submitting a complain to TIO.

Just be careful with these guys. The reason I wanted to move on was that they have too many outages/incidents without a any notifications. Sometimes a whole day, and when I rang, their customer support would have no idea.
