Check your Everyday Reward offers, I currently have a 7x points offer for BIG W that works storewide and for online purchases.

    • How to add a reward card or can I use the reward points?

F#ck sake, I just bought the JVC 55" QLED TV from Big W about an hour ago, and I haven't activated the Big W x10 points booster.

      • And that was $499 a few weeks ago too lol

        • +1

That's all I paid for it today.

      • X10 boost is for exercise equipment alas

      • How do you like it?

        • Haven't really had a chance to play with it yet. Play a couple of Youtube videos, and some Animelab episodes, looks decent. Had to play with video settings a bit, but I find it acceptable.

Sound is pretty crap, but that is to be expected. Also upscaling isn't great, so don't put any content less than 1080p on there.

      • -3

QLED is much, much better than the rubbish this will be

        • Yeah I was walking in to get the Eko 50" Smart TV for $450, but saw the JVC QLED for $550 next to it and got that instead.

          • @AdosHouse: What do you think of the jvc?

I see you've fallen for the marketing tricks. QLED on these cheap TVs basically don't make much, if any difference to non-QLED. I have a non-QLED EKO 65" and my mate has the equivalent frameless QLED model. Both have pretty much the same PQ. In fact, his panel has a lot more noticeable corner vignetting compared to mine.

  • Anyone own one of these TVs?

    • +7

Sounds like absolute bottom of the barrell stuff

      • +1

It does, but once it's on the wall it's gonna look like every other TV due to their slim bezels

        • +3

I'm not worried about 'on the wall' aesthetics

        • Until you turn it on and watch Star Wars

      • +7

Erm, what do you expect from a $299 TV?

      • +3

I got a TCL 50" 4K smart tv when they had a crazy special at GG a while back. It is not comparable with a $3000 TV but it is good and i can't fault it.

        • I'd buy TCL at this price in a heartbeat. I'd have to have no heartbeat before I bought Dodgytec, no matter the price.

    • +2

I got the 65" off Gumtree for $150. The audio is crap but a soundbar fixed that up. The picture quality is pretty good with some tweaks on anything but SD free to air.

      • Fair enough, since the main feature is the 4K ability, I would expect the screen to be decent at least

      • What's the start up time like when you turn it on?

        • +1

About 30 seconds (I've never timed it). It just says initializing bottom right. The audio starts after about 15 seconds through the soundbar then the picture appears 15 seconds later.

          • -1

            @Muzeeb: Eek, that's a bit much haha

            • +1

@Zackeroo: I got my TV yesterday. Start up is around sub 10 seconds for me and the menu although the ugliest I've ever seen, is actually very responsive.

        😲

        • whoa

      • with superior sound quality

"Superior" is relative. It is superior when compared to worse sounding TVs.

  • Doesnt say Android TV, so i assume that means wouldnt be able to get Disney plus? Trying to find a cheapy TV for the kids lounge room to replace my old 42" Sharp analog antenna connection tv :/

    • +2

Do the kids have a Playstation or XBox? Then they have Disney Plus

      • kids are only 6 and 3. I've got an old xbox 360 and PS3 in storage… showing my age.

We've got Fetch mighty… but still waiting for Fetch to get Disney added the device

    • +4

      Chromecast gives you disney puss

      • +13

        Which princess?

      • Don't you have to use a phone to tablet to control chromecast instead of the TV remote…. thats reverse logic when dealing with kids - the idea is to get limit device time.

    • +15

Always better off getting a dedicated android box (like a voda tv) than using the "Smart" capabilities of budget TVs.

In my limited TV experience, I have not yet found one that is as smooth and fast as a dedicated box.

      • +1

Agreed, 'Smart' capable TV's always lags unless they are a high-end brand

      • +2

The answer to this "problem" is Apple TV. Easily the best value device Apple has ever made.

        • +5

My Apple TV has been a disappointment to me. 7plus is one annoying app that often freezes up sometimes when it goes to play an ad it inexplicably freezes up on mine. Apple TV tends to lag and freeze up now and again too. I found my old Samsung phone is more reliable than my Apple TV. Plus it also has the benefit of it’s easier to get around the annoying ads on these FTA tv apps. I also found the FTA tv apps work better on my tv than my Apple TV for that matter. Maybe it’s just my specific Apple TV, Apple Arcade games work fine though and apps like Netflix and YouTube work fine. So I’m blaming the developers for the FTA tv apps for now. But to me for the cost of the Apple TV it wasn’t worth it when compared to the alternatives.

          • +1

@Ronnnie: I use chromecast and have similar issues with FTA apps, they are rubbish, the commercial channels anyway. Netflix, Stan, ABC iview, no problems.

          • @Ronnnie: I had seen it working on my brother's TV, then I bought Fire stick.
Didn't find any difference. Way cheaper then Apple TV.

          • @Ronnnie: I'd take it back to apple, I don't get any freezing or lag on 7plus.
I stopped using my chrome cast after about a fortnight, the ATV has been really smooth sailing here.

          • @Ronnnie: Have you tried updating the firmware? Or resetting the whole thing to factory settings to start all over again?

      • +2

Do you savages not own a games console?

        • +1

          Hahahaha what a peasant!

          • -3

@Buyingcrap: A lot of people don't understand that they can access virtually any apps through their GameStations and will buy an 'Android TV' when there's no (profanity) need

            • @Nicko99: I mean, the power requirements of an Xbox or Playstation absolutely dwarf the power requirements of a Google TV Chromecast or a VodafoneTV/Mi Box

              • -2

@Droz: The energy power requirements of chromecasts, dedicated android boxes dwarfs those of games consoles though if that is a consideration.

                • +1

@prxy: I think I originally bought the chromecast because they were dirt cheap and you can easily take them anywhere. The energy requirements being so small compared with gaming consoles is a huge advantage too.

                • @prxy:

The energy power requirements of chromecasts, dedicated android boxes dwarfs those of games consoles though if that is a consideration.

                  Can you explain that?

That's the exact opposite of what I'm saying.

                  Consoles require heaps of power.

Chromecast is powered by a USB charger.

Android TV Boxes also require very little power.

                  What exactly do you mean?

                  • +1

@Droz: The way you wrote it I understood you to be saying that games consoles required less power to run than chromecasts or dedicated android boxes.

We both actually believe the same thing. Consoles require more power and are less energy efficient for media playback than dedicated android boxes etc.

                    • @prxy: Probably not as versatile re media formats and probably have a lot of drm as well.

                    • @prxy:

We both actually believe the same thing

Yes, I'm glad we got there in the end! Looks like it was a language misunderstanding.

When something "dwarfs" something else, it's making the other thing look small.

So, the Console power requirements dwarfing the Chromecast power requirements means that the Console's power requirements made the Chromecast requirements look tiny.

            • @Nicko99: STILL no kayo on playstation platforms

        • Imagine calling people savages when you navigate apps on your TV with a games console rather than having a dedicated PC with a Ryzen 7 3700 and a Logitech K400 Plus to access streaming services through…

Everyone's a pleb to somebody, buddy.

          • -1

@Vinnie Vegas: I do less than half a percent of my app navigation on a TV chief

            • @Nicko99: I can't imagine you have time outside of judging people in the replies to an OzBargain post about a Big W TV

              • @Vinnie Vegas: I shall I notify you when you can purchase a sense of humour with at least 3% cash back?

                • @Nicko99: I assume you've had notifications on for that for a while with no luck.

                  • @Vinnie Vegas: I'll keep an eye out for you. What's the best number to text you on when one pops up

        • if only i didnt have to update it everytime i turn the bloody thing on

        • Firestick does everything better without chugging 50w power.

    • +3

I use an Amazon Fire TV stick and it's easy to use and good for streaming. Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, and all the free tv streaming apps (ABC iView, SBS on demand, 7+ etc) are available on the Fire TV stick.

I knew I had heard of this brand before, this is it, I had one years ago and it was amazing haha

    • ah yes, i did have one of those!

  • Looks like good reviews for $299 https://www.catch.com.au/product/dgtec-55-4k-ultra-hd-led-tv…

sound appears to be the biggest issue, but again can be fixed with a sound bar.

    • +6

Sound is the very last thing to be worried about. Picture, picture and more picture.

      • +1

        agreed

Great for the kebab shop. pizza shop. fish and chip shop.

    • What about a golf shop ?

    • Don’t forget getting your nails done shop.

  • Anyone know if you can use Bluetooth headphone on these TV?

    • Bluetooth transmitter with 2 channels can be bought for about $30, USB powered.

      • Link?

      • Those cheap ones have audio lag?? Better to spend a bit more around $90 for a decent dual one, otherwise you will get annoyed.

Bought the Linsar 55’ 10 months ago for parents. My god, they love it. I’m impressed.

    Wonder how this would compare?

    • Got the Linsar 55" for $379 from TGG. Great TV with a Chromecast and a soundbar

  • Anyone think this will be a good TV to play ps 5 in the bedroom ?

    • +9

Nope. Only good in the bathroom/shower

      • +3

More hygienic than holding a phone 🤗

    • i wanna know too, if its suitable for a bedroom. 55inch might be pushing it in size for a bedroom tv.

      • the bigger you go the bigger you want it to be. I got a 55 inch lg and my room is 4m wide i feel like i need a 65 now.

        • I wanted a 65 but then I tried a 75 and I’m not going back
