So you have a monitor now, but do you have this?

I purchased one late last year and have been using it ever since. Extremely nice quality product (aluminium build). Projects light uniformly in the space in front of you and prevents eye strain/shadow when writing. Has a wireless remote for adjusting brightness/temperature/on/off, for add convenience. Highly recommend it. I've completely ditched my old desk lamp.

Gets pretty bright as well - few nice pics from aliexpress reviews

Limited stock. Shipped from their AU warehouse. Best price available I believe. For reference, PC Market AU is selling for $99 AUD (Ouch).

Features:

Easy installation: Just hanging it on your monitor, saving space on your desk.
Asymmetric forward projection design: Avoid screen reflection, even focusing on the screen for a long period of time, you don't need to worry about the glare and dazzle. It effectively reduces eye fatigue.
Adjustable brightness and color temperature: you could brightness and color temperature by pressing and spinning the remote control.
Ra90 Color Rendering Index: High Color Rendering Index, the presentation of colors is more real, more vivid, and has better recognition.
USB Type-C connector: The lamp can be powered by a monitor, computer, USB adapter and power bank.

Package List:

1* Lamp
1* Base
1* Remote control
2* AAA battery (Not Included)

  • Nice.

Can you turn it around to light behind the monitor - a classy bias light/ambient light? Or does the light sit too high above the bezel that there would still be light spill in front of the monitor/on the screen?

    • Can you turn it around to light behind the monitor - a classy bias light/ambient light?

Nah - the entire unit would need to face backwards and the clamp part would cover a bit of your screen

Or does the light sit too high above the bezel that there would still be light spill in front of the monitor/on the screen?

Extremely minimal light spill and only when it’s at the smallest angle

    • +2

This may have been more what you're after, though I don't know if you can choose only rear or front lights and maybe only the pro version would do this - might be worth looking into.

      • +2

I got the pro version it can do one or the other or both

        • Amazing these are!! With every dollar!

        • How is the pro version powered? is it USB or via a wall adapter?

        • +2

Same with the standard Yeelight, you can have one light on or both.

    • +4

My monitor has USB ports so I got a short USB powered LED strip light for a few bucks, stuck to back of monitor.
Works well, and turns on and off with monitor.

    • Can you turn it around to light behind the monitor - a classy bias light/ambient light

      No. Not at all

  • Good price bought it too early from PC Market pre order $89

    Mine included battery.

  • +1

How well do these things work with dual monitors, with a main (central) monitor and a secondary monitor to the side? Anyone using a light bar with such a monitor setup?

I get that the light is directed away from the main screen to avoid glare…but if your secondary monitor is to the side at an angle, is that going to cause glare on the second monitor?

    • +3

No glare. It’s got a translucent cover over the LEDs for gentle lighting. There’s a review pic I’ve included that shows dual monitor setup with the lamp - https://imgur.com/a/GRNgpqA

    • Mine is on a 49” curved ultra wide (kinda emulated a dual monitor with the curve?) no glare for me as well.

      • Woah that is bigger that my TV

    • I think it would be difficult to get the clip right

  • Thanks bought one!

  • It said $60.46 (removed insurance)

    • +2

To get the above price, you’d need to remove insurance and pay in USD with an international fee free card

      • I paid US$46.99 but the pending amount is AU$62.29 :(
I used a commbank debit card.

        • +1

Did you deselect insurance? If yes, then commbank probably has international surcharges

          • @skido: yes, insurance removed price and paid through paypal.
            my exchange rate is 0.75442.
usd bull market and the dollar index is going up now.
They charged more than I expected but still good price :)

      • +1

Alternatively pay with PayPal in USD with a linked international fee free card / bank acc

Awesome price. If I didn't already have one, I'd jump at this.

Never tried the BenQ but from the first looks - Xiaomi is much cheaper, fits thinner bezels and has the added convenience of a wireless remote to control brightness/temperature/on/off (this is extremely useful)

    • +1

I think that is the older model without remote (wireless or wired) cheaper from Amazon.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/BenQ-ScreenBar-Auto-Dimming-Adjust…

The Benq plus model around $200 but the Xiaomi a lot cheaper with wireless remote. Youtube reviews did say Benq Plus is better but $200

      https://www.amazon.com.au/BenQ-ScreenBar-Plus-Auto-Dimming-A…

    • +1

What does the BenQ model do to justify costing that much? The $50AUD generic I bought from Amazon is bright enough to make you wince at max brightness.

      • Link for the 50 bucks one please

        • It's called the Runoob ScreenBar but if you search for screenbar you'll find it sold under different names.

I bought it a year ago but wouldn't buy it now though. This Xoami one is better in every way. It has a better mounting mechanism, tilting mechanism, and remote.

    • Thank you for your interest in our Monitor Light Screenbar. While the Xiaomi Mijia Monitor Desk Lamp is very much similar to our Screenbar, I noticed a few distinct features which sets the two products apart. The BenQ Screenbar provides a wide range of illumination through its 14 brightness levels and 8 colour temperatures, making full use of its 2700~6500K ‎colour temperature range. It is through these various levels of brightness and colour temperature that allows our built-in ambient light sensor to perform at its best. With just one click of our auto dimming button, the BenQ Screenbar promptly detects the surrounding brightness and then supplements it with just the right light. The built-in ambient light sensor automatically illuminates at 500 Lux. (The American National Standard Practice for Office Lighting recommends illuminance level at 500 lux). While in a dimly lit room (under 50 lux), the lamp automatically adjusts illumination to 300lux, thereby eliminating the discomfort caused by a strong contrasts of light. For our ScreenBar Plus model, a notable difference is that our external dial is powered by the same cable connected to the lamp. I hope I was able to answer your questions.

Especially for the ScreenBar Plus, please.

          • +2

@Bobby Hill: I think the problem is at what price you would buy from them?

It currently sells $199 on Amazon so even with 50% off you are going to still paying ~ $100, compare to this Xiaomi for around $70?

And I would say for similar amount of money people would go with the Yeelight Pro rather than BenQ for the RGB.

            • +1

@davidl820: The biggest draw for me is the automatic ambient light sensor, better light performance (hue and brightness), more intuitive remote (albeit wired) and delivery time.

I have hue strips and room lighting already installed and controlled via HomeKit, and I have an automated setup, so I am less concerned about the RBG.

It's a nice bonus, but it would have provided greater utility and less friction for me if it was HomeKit enabled.

              YMMV.

BUT tempt me on price @BenQ and @Yeelight - the higher the price differentiator, the more I can be swayed (which is why I am bummed about missing out on the current deal).

            • +1

@davidl820: I wouldn‘t mind paying $150 for the BenQ, let alone $100. If it was $100, it would be an instant cop.

        • +3

I shall speak with my supervisors to see if we can work something out.

          • +2

@BenQau: Thanks, will wait for your good news. I am really interested in getting the BenQ Screenbar Plus.

          • @BenQau: Any word back?

            • @Bobby Hill: Unfortunately, due to a shortage of stock, we currently cannot hold any sales or offers for our BenQ ScreenBar & ScreenBar Plus. Although, we have recently reopened our online Refurbished store on our BenQ homepage, where it is possible to purchase a refurbished ScreenBar for only $99. If you would like to take a look at our refurbished range, please visit: https://www.benq.com/en-au/benq-refurbished-outlet-shop.html

              • @BenQau: Do you know when will the ScreenBar Halo be available in Australia?

                • +1

@FrugalNotStingy: Hi there, thank you for showing interest in our yet-to-be released ScreenBar Halo. In regards to when it will be available in Australia, unfortunately mass production for AU has not yet been confirmed. Although we are hoping to bring them in sometime this year, most likely within the last quarter, I cannot give a definite answer until I receive confirmation from HQ. Thanks again

  • I have a webcam clipped to the top of monitor that I use a lot for work. Could that be clipped to the top of this?

    • +1

I did that but my Microsoft cam is quite small.

      • Thanks. Ordered. Sure I can make it work somehow!

        • I ended using a flexible arm that clamps to my desk as I couldn’t get it to sit on top reliably.

  • Would this help in any way to improve lighting for zoom meeting calls?

    • Yes it definitely does (doesnt exactly light up your face like a ring light but improves the lighting around the area and makes it overall brighter for sure)

  • +1

Definitely worth it. If I didn't buy the yeelight one, this would have been my second pick hands down. Good build quality

  • +2

    Coupon is dead

    • +3

I'll ask the rep to see if they can extend it

      • Thanks. I got stuck at checkout because I couldn't trigger USD until I got off the mobile site. And by then the coupon expired. Rather frustrating.

  • "This coupon has reached the 50 limit times"

    • +1

sorry that was unexpected. am reaching out to rep to see if they can extend it

  • -2

So angry, I just bought one today so I'm going to try to cancel the order. In the meanwhile the coupon says that's it's exhausted 50 uses.

  • +2

I bought the Baseus one from Amazon and paid $66 though it came like within 48 hours with my Plus membership
it is amazing although I am sure this one by op is good too
I feel less eye fatique WFH it's good!

    I bought this one
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B01LZTTA0C/ref=ppx_yo_d…

    • How's that baseus one compare to Xiaomi?

      • I have not used xiaomi but Baseus is good the dimming is rotary dial not step and it memorise the settings when u turn on again - as long as u dont use powerbank whuch some people do. It wont flickeras it is LED not fluorescent. Again dont use powerbank

    • Problem I have with that Baseus item is that it neither specifies the number of LEDs nor CRI. This one on the other hand does and it is similar in price. I'm in a dilemma on which one to order.

    • +1

bought the same one from Ebay yesterday for $37.59
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/363072899412?_trksid=p2380057.m5…

price is showing $46.99 but u can make an offer

    • Does it flicker at lower brightness setting? I am very sensitive to flickering. To check you just need to move your index finger side to side rapidly in front of the light. If you see multiple impression of your fingers, then it flicker. If you see a smooth no step transition from one end to another, than it is not flicker but must be in a lower light setting, not at full brightness. Could you check please.

      • I have just found out from Amazon that it has no strobe effect. I end up purchasing 3 from the Ebay link.

  • Please extend the deal haha!

here is a awesome review compare the major monitor lamp light, too bad it is only in chinese. but you can just scroll thru and look at the comparison pictures or use auto translate.

TLDR, benq is the best in terms of all aspect except price. xiaomi is great alternative to that (value king), all the other brand better just avoid all together.

  • Waiting for more cupon allocations.

  • I have one of these. Super good. The price of this in China is $40.00 though.

    • Actually even less, around A$25. Just checked Chinese AliExpress (Taobao).
But you know, customs duties and shipping cost…

      • Yeah but not that easy to ship it here from Taobao.

        • +1

Totally agree… which made me miss China lol. (I'm Chinese)

      • Can you give me link of Taobao? How much in total you recon with shipping etc to Australia?

  • Goods got the Dell 32' curved 4k monitor would this fit?

    • Yes will fit

      • The clip on the front would it block a fair amount of screen on the edge though?

        • what's the bezel size on your monitor? the clips only 5mm

        • -1

          It only use like 5mm

        • +2

You can always stick a piece of wood on top of your monitor and clamp the light on it.

  • Other than the code it shows US $59.39 for me?

I have been looking at this for a few weeks on AliExpress, the lowest is like $61 delivered but have to wait until late March to be delivered from China so I'd really like to get one if it's AU stock.

  • Reached 50 limit….

  • LIMIT REACHED

  • -1

OP will contact rep tomorrow to see if they can increase the limit.

  • How does this compare to the Baseus one which is only $34 (Ex. GST) from Ali?
