Isn't this a bit of a slap in the face for those of us that already pay for eBay Plus?

    • -3

      No.

This deal doesn't mean less for eBay Plus users, it means more for non-eBay plus users.

    • +59

Well slap them back by using the trick that someone pointed out last time. Select payment type as afterpay, add the code then pay by using eBay gift cards. I don’t use any buy now pay later service, this is just a good way to take advantage.

      • +14

It should also be mentioned that eBay cards can be bought on Shopback or Cashrewards for an extra 5% off total price.

        • How long does it take to receive such purchased eBay cards? Digital/instantaneous?

        • I'm only getting 1% offer right now on Cashrewards for an ebay gift card, and they need to be bought in $50 increments. I'm an AAMI customer and via Suncorp/AAMI benefits I am getting 3% on ebay gift cards, which I can also specify an exact cost.

edit: I note 1% is on a direct ebay gift card via CR, I haven't used the 5% "choice" cards before.

          • +1

@jirskyr: FWIW the Choice cards is $30 minimum whereas eBay has $5 minimum. Hence I took the 3% offer for a $44 purchase because I can't be bothered working out the math of whether 5% off $40 is better. Either way I didn't want to have extra credit hanging around.

      • +1

You never know whether this trick will work this time.

      • I returned an item after using the previous afterpay + giftcard trick and the cards haven't been refunded.
Usually they reappear at the checkout instantly, sometimes 2-3 days while I've been waiting for over two weeks.
I suspect it has to do with the afterpay trick.

      • -2

The problem is if you buy using gift cards then you may not be eligible for any warranty or price protection that purchasing the item directly with a credit card would give you.

        • +3

You'll definitely get access to warranty regardless of method of payment. Price protection no, but that depends on whether or not you're happy to take that gamble.

          • @Zenyatta: Yes your right, you still get warranty. But infy probably means extended warranties that credit cards can sometimes offer.

    • +3

I hope so because ebay plus is a slap in face for non-plus members of ebay who already pay ebay fees.

Paying for "deals" on top of that is like a scam, and should be opposed by all in principle, not encouraged.

Imagine if every business started doing the same thing, "Harvey Norman Plus", "JB Plus", "Officeworks Plus"…. we don't need it.

Paying for deals is dodgy for so many reasons in an eco-system where you're already paying fees. Whenever you buy something on ebay, the seller factors in ebay fees to the price, so you're already paying ebay fees even if you never sell on ebay.

      • its shitty
but its no different to a coscto membership where their entire inventory and discounts are behind a paywall

    • +3

Indeed. Thus far Ebay plus has only cost me money given the $50 coupon doesn't work with other sales and is also non-refundable.

    • When does this deal end? whats the date?

    • -2

Having an eBay Plus membership is slapping yourself in the face

  • +1

Hope it is like last time can use gift card.

  • Fingers crossed Jack won't see this.

  • +1

    Perfect to stack with this!

    • This didn't load for me, looks like you need the email from AfterPay first before it will work.

  • How do you know it will start on 20th, I could not find anything

    • +1

was on the banner earlier, could actually be starting 10am today, just saw banner again now saying launching 10am maybe it expires on the 20th, so keep watch

      • +1

        That make sense, thanks

  • It's not good to hold too many credit cards isn't it???

    • Huh?

      • -3

I mean as in with addition to the credit cards you have. Afterpay is a credit card.

        • don't have afterpay but have zip and the bank told me when I was enquiring about a loan they said they don't see it as a cc.

          • @Frozensage: Bank made me close my Zip account before the approved my home loan :((

  • -1

    Working NOW.

Note, does not stack with PMAR3.

    • Does the gift card 'hack' work?

      • I don't have a gift car so cant tell you, try it yourself.

      • +8

Yes - the gift card hack still works. Confirmed just now 👍

This code also works on items not in the search list. For example it works on the Bing Lee eBay store. Noooiiice

        • is there a way to see if the code works without commiting to buy the item?

          • +1

@mrjames: Yes, add to cart, select afterpay as payment method and enter the code…. it will show if the code is applicable or not.
Just checked on app and it works. Now to wait till lunch, buy gift cards and hope the item is still in stock till then.

        • I'm looking at a $839 item (before 20% discount). Could I do this with swap giftcards ?

          • +5

@tunzafun001: Yes, you could. $839 - 20% = $671.20. Buy a $500 Choice gift card from CashRewards (it will swap for 2x $200 eBay and 1x $100 eBay) and also buy a $200 Choice gift card (it will swap for 1x $200 eBay). In total you would be buying $700 worth of eBay gift cards which is more than the purchase price, so the remaining $28.80 will stay on your eBay account for next time.

That gives you FOUR eBay gift cards plus ONE voucher code, which is under eBay's EIGHT code limit per transaction.

            👍

      • Answering my own question - yes, it does. :) $120 saving on a $500 item I've been eyeing off for a while. Thanks!

        • what is this gift card trick? i am feeling missed out

          • +1

@jmel: It just means if you pay the full balance by eBay gift cards you don't have to actually use Afterpay.

          • @jmel: Buy choice gift card from cashrewards and swap it with eBay gift card

            5% CB

  • What time does it start?

    • 10am, running now.

  • Found item on that exact page. Apply code - says must select afterpay - select afterpay - apply code.
This code can't be applied to your order
    GG ebay and afterpay

    • "Eligible Items" - whats the item?

      • It was on the page from "eligble items".
Appears it has to be new items, i was trying to afterpay a used item from that page ;)

Picked up a Logitech M720 Triathlon for $44, and paid using 3% off eBay gift cards ($1.35 from $25 + $10 + $10). Only 4 more available so can't post as a separate deal: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-M720-Triathlon-Wireless...

Glad I checked. Almost pulled the trigger from Amazon @ $51.20

  • Keep getting "we ran into a problem" at checkout

    Is anyone else getting this?

    • You purchasing alcohol by any chance? I was getting that when I forgot to enter the date of birth.

      • No, I think it was a network capacity thing. I tried a few times, did not work. Came back 10mins later and worked fine.

  • Just bought the switch from bigw. Selected afterpay and paid using all the choice gc banked up from cashrewards over last 3 month.

  • +1

    Bought this DS920+ NAS - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/233624804125
    $692 after 20% off and a further $30 off from AfterPay = $662.
Too bad did not use GC.

  • If I use Afterpay, can I just pay the full amount? Never used it before.

    • Yes, you can log into your AfterPay account and pay off the whole purchase right away.
But I didn't see any advantage and left mine as is.

      • I did that, pay the full 4 payments right off. Then I try to purchase another item using AfterPay, they declined my transaction, so I use the Gift Card method.

      • Any idea if a new user canbuy something worth 1000 and pay it off straight away? Thanks.

        • Yes, a new user can buy something worth $1,000 and pay it off straight away.

  • +1

I do not get the option to pay via afterpay- just tells me paypal or add another card. Am I missing something?

    • item is not eligible if you dont see afterpay option

    • That’s exactly the case with me. Appreciate if someone can help.

    • Trying buying individual items, if you have different items in cart, it does work. Click pay only this seller.

  • What is the gift card hack ?

    • +1

Pay the full balance of your purchase with gift cards, to avoid using Afterpay. The gift cards will also be discounted.

Example 5% options or others here - gift card Wiki

      • Is the maximum still 7 gift cards plus the voucher code?

        • +1

          Yes I believe so.

Edit: Still says so in the terms

Terms. " You can use up to 8 codes per transaction."

      • What's the maximum gift card amount and does your Balance remain if you don't use the whole gift card?

Looking at a $674 item. Can it be done? Anyway to check before pulling the trigger on a large value of giftcards?
        Cheers

        • +1

The balance remains in your eBay account if you don't use the whole gift card amount yes, so if you reguarly use eBay it doesn't matter if you purchase a little extra.

Assuming your item is $674 before discount = $539.20 after discount.

You could buy 2 x $200 Choice Gift Cards and $1 x $150 SwapChoice Gift cards mentioned here, then redeem them for 2 x $200 eBay gift cards and 1 x $150 eBay gift cards. The remaining $10.80 will stay on our eBay account for next time.

Just don't buy smaller denominations, as you can only redeem 7 gift cards so buying $30 or $50s will leave you short of the balance.

          • @hamza23: Cheers legend. It's $674 after discounts. Just bought a $30 gift card so I can see if it's eligible.. whoops. Should still be able to get it under 7 cards

Looks like shopback have the same as swap cards. Hopefully both instant?
Cant see an end date/ time on this promo though

            • +2

@tunzafun001: You can apply the code to test the item to make sure it's eligible, without applying the gift card. You just apply the gift cards subsequently after the code.

tomclancy previously mentioned that they are instant.

This afterpay promo ends 21/3 as per OP.
