but I read it's a battery killer though; so you might consider that too

      • No point having it otherwise??

        • +1

Your call, fast crispy screen vs battery longevity

          • +1

@BigLeviathan: I suppose thats where this phone fast charges in 30 mins = advantage.

      • I seem to remember seeing a review test in battery drain. 120hz drained the phone faster but not a big deal. Maybe phone lasted 10% longer on 60 hz

  • +2

I think you will find that 5G frequencies will differ overseas and there is a possibility bit may not work on 5G depending band in use where you want to use it overseas.

That said I can't see any logical reason that if you use 4G or 3G bands that are supported with a carrier in that country you should not have any issues

    It's unlocked after all

    • Spot on vsixtyfour. The info I attach below is from the Australian oppo find X2 pro official webpage. It effectivelly states not all 5G bands will be enabled untill the infrastructure is available (within Australia). This comes down to the technology that supports 5g infrastructure and not all countries a running the same. Currently Vodafone and Telstra work on different 5g bands. This could have two impacts for this phone with this been the support from Oppo. 1st, has Oppo enabled this 5g band to work on Vodafone and Optus 5g Networks ( I would assume it has, as it would treat all find X2's in Australia the same) and 2nd, has Oppo enable support all 5g bands that are available for the international destinations you may travel. The statement below subjects not all brands will be made available in Australia even though the phone has the capability to support the given infrastructure. This would impact all (Australian) phones in the X2 lineup not just a Telstra version.

      From Oppo Australia website.

      SIM Size: Nano-SIM/Nano-USIM
*Functions available on the live network are dependent on the specific carrier's network situation and related deployment of services. 5G SA function will be supported with OTA updates when carrier networks are available. Some 5G bands will be enabled later.
*5G SA function will support by OTA while carrier's network is available.

  • thanks OP, got 2, one for the Mrs as well !!

  • Very good deal here, but I wonder long term viability…
I.e. the phone is a year old, hence Oppo might give you one extra year with security updates and maybe 1 OS update. Would they do more? Don't think there's any custom ROMs for these?

Regardless I might still jump into JB because of price anyways… You think they would give $500 voucher if I also sign up to 69pm Telstra deal? (Site says $300, but 2 weeks ago they did 500… Worth while to ask I guess…

    • Hmmm how does oppo compare to samsung for security updates? I have an old samsung s8 and still get occasional security updates. Does oppo notoriously stop providing patches ? I dont mind not getting latest android features.. but security would be pretty high up.

    • +3

Original Oppo find X here, purchased in 2018 from JB with android 8 - received android 9 and 10. Still getting security patches (currently in March 2021).

      • Same. Got a cheap Oppo A73 back in 2018 and am still getting updates.

  • I have this phone since NOv 2020. Awesome specs.. But Android Auto is broken and does not work properly. Shame

    • What is android auto.?

      • Screen mirroring. Plug the phone into a cars USB port to get Google maps and other android apps on the infotainment screen. Although only If your car supports it of course.

        • Not really screen mirroring, it gives you limited access to limited apps (eg maps, phone, spotify).
I find it mostly pointless, since the phone already works over BT, and Spotify doesn't let you search new tracks you can only play an existing playlist or recent song which is also pointless. The only thing I use is the ability to show maps/direction on the my car's big screen.

          • @1st-Amendment: pretty much what most people use it for I think. I also don't really see the use outside of maps.

      Mine works since last update

This is a problem across slot of phones running Android 10 and 11 ( see my post above). There seams to be a couple if reasons for this and a couple of was to either avoid the issue or solve the issue. 1, if you get a new Android phone running android 10 or 11 and want to transfer you apps and settings from your old phone to the new one I would recommend uninstalling the AA app first. Then go into play store, my apps, library and delete AA, restart phone. Now when you transfer you apps and data from your
old AA app won't interfere with the latest AA that is built into Android 10 and 11 opperating systems. If you already have transfered the AA. app to a new phone. It is a bit more challenging. ( I did and it created issues for me running the X2 NEO.) How I resolved the issue was, restarting my phone, going to play store, my apps and uninstall AA app. now go to app history and uninstall AA app. It may not allow you the uninstall the AA app, but it may let you dial back to an older version, so do that and restart phone. Now turn on Bluetooth and plug into car to automatically detect AA. If working, great issue solved. Now, next time you're asked to update AA go for it. ( I had to repeated these steps a few times before it works, now I'm having no problems at all). There is one more thing you can try, in the phone settings you can hunt around an find AA settings and uninstall latest update. I can't tell you where this is as I just tried to find it and couldn't. If you do this repeat the steps I mentioned above and restart your phone before trying to connect your car to AA. Remember you can't fully uninstall AA from Android 10 or 11 as it is now built into the opperating systems, what your trying to do is remove and cross talk between the old AA app and the new AA within Android 11. Finally, when you have done this from your phone, check what firmware version of AA is running in your cars infotainment system this may need to be updated (you can do this in your cars touch screen, I'm not sure of the current version number). In the US, they allow customers to do this themself, in Australia you have to go through your dealer and I can pretty much guarantee when you had your last service they didn't update it. Hopefully this helps.

      • I use it for maps and YouTube music (not Spotify). I will try this fix one day when I have time.

For those who don't use AA then this is a bargain.. and do not hesitate to buy

Thanks OP! managed to get a further 5% off through Suncorp/AAMI jb giftcard - total spent $721.10
Misses might not like this late-night shopping…but it's a need vs want after all…

    • Does aami insurance provide 5% off buying egiftcards for jb?

      • Didn’t know this I only got 3% off gift card from ShopBack :(

        • +2

Familiarise yourself with the OzB gift card wiki, plenty of platforms offering 5% at JB.

Lots of other retailers in there too, of course

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards#com…

          • @nismo: Great thanks it will come in handy in the future

          • @nismo: Thanks. Wasnt sure what was available and if gift cards were instantly delivered. Was rushing to goto sports and 5% off vs missing out on the phone at this price if it sold out wasnt worth the risk for me.

The big question is do these gift card providers giving 5% off email gift cards instantly? I remember the old entertainment book they needed to process payment and so usually needed a few hrs or a business day to get it.

            • +1

@SaberX: I am with two providers Suncorp and Rewards Gateway and it's instant, both the discount and the delivery of the cards, including JB Hi-Fi, Amazon, Bonds, Rebel, woolies / wish etc. These are some of the ones I've ordered recently and have always arrived instantly.

Make sure they are eGift cards of course. Physical cards are definitely too slow.

Most providers these days do instant, but of course occasionally there might be a few minutes delay.

              • @nismo: HMmm thanks for the feedback. Must be the ld entertainment gift cards then. HOw does one join the Suncorp or Rewards Gateway? is that through banking or insurance with Suncorp? And where does Rewards Gateway access come from? I have neither so I suppose the only option is shopback setting up an account - only 3% though - as I only have cash rewards.

edit: just read the original post this was responding to and realised they mentioned aami. Logged into my aami portal and just realised it has the 5% jb hi fi gifts cards. Doh!! I did not know…. is the "Suncorp a membership reward gateway of AAMI? Does it run also for other insurers like RAC etc, or they use a different provider?

                Just had no idea.

I presume now that I've paid for the click and collect, too late/bad? can you return a jb hi fi 'clearance' item and just rebuy it with the gift cards? Abit of fudging around, but i suppose if there's stock it's an easy do.

                • @SaberX: Most of these Platforms / Providers are accessible via Insurance companies, work provided benefits and Union Member benefits.

I'm not a direct customer of Suncorp, but they are the parent company of my insurance provider, so that's how I get that one. AAMI is also under Suncorp

Rewards Gateway is through my workplace.

                  • @nismo: Thanks. I had no idea until i went into aami and found the reward gateway. I managed to order gift cards and today i went in store and asked to return my click n collect credit card and rebuy it on gift cards which he did. The sales team now have to refund me over the week…. but small price to pay for another 5% off.

I saw aami also offers 8% off kathmandu. Ive been doing it all wrong - been buying on sales but never though abt stacking it with discount gift cards too! Def will check the wiki going forward.

Sounds like rewards gateway id an employer only perk though that i dont have unfortunately.

                    • @SaberX: Nice work on the JB deal 👍

Rewards Gateway gets me 3% off Amazon gift cards, which is good because most things I buy don't have cashback atm.

  • hm, tempted to sell my pixel 4a 5g and get this.

  • The reviews won me over. Thanks, bought.

  • Damn would have picked this up over the Rog Phone 3 I bought a few weeks ago. Great deal

  • Been holding out for the S21 Ultra to get cheap but this certainly looks comparable and much better value.

    • Me too lol. You reckon the camera will be pretty close?

      • +1

From this video https://youtu.be/INF6YGtugS8?t=122 it seems like the S21 Ultra has the advantage in the camera department, but for the difference in price I would say that the X2 Pro definitely holds up really well against it.

Edit: I was tired when watching that video last night and after rewatching after I linked it, I change my mind and I actually much prefer what I see of the Oppo X2 Pro camera compared to the Ultra. I am super impressed.

    • Same, it’s much cheaper than the s21 ultra so I pull the trigger, and 512gb is a bonus

      • +1

Yeah I pulled the trigger on this too, the 512gb is a really nice bonus considering how few phones have SD card slots these days, and also the fact that you have to pay $100 more just to go from the 128gb Ultra to the 256gb option in most cases.

    • Me too, since can't stack $200 voucher on S21 Ultra deal, I bought this straightaway.

      • +2

        Whats $200 voucher?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Been looking at this phone for a few weeks, reading the camera reviews. Looks like it stacks up very well.

Thought it would never be in my price range. Will be my first top tier phone - yes, a year old, but I think I'd take this camera over the Find X3 Pro. Excited to get out & take some photos.

    Cheers.

  • +3

No wireless charging seems odd for a so called high end phone

    • Yep. That's what some of the reviews I've read have said. Also battery life is supposedly a bit of a weak link, due to that high refresh rate screen. But at least it has very fast charging.

      • +1

Can confirm battery isn't very good for a 'flagship' but fast charging makes up for it.. but, it does get warm while fast charging.

        • Unfortunately for me would have bought this but no wireless charging is a deal breaker for me

  • +1

    Any recommendations for cases?

    • +5

It comes with a clear case in the box

      • +2

Already applied plastic screen protector too, I removed mine however because plastic ones scratch too easily and annoy me.

        • Is it easy to find a tempered glass for a round screen like this?? My samsung s8+ i would get it off ebay and its an additional protection for the gorilla glass.

      • Oh really? D'oh didn't know this, at least I didn't buy the $34 casing they sell at jb and bought $5 casing from ebay… hm…I might cancel that now

  • Absolute steal, picked one up today. My older Realme 6 will act as a back-up. It being Telstra just results in some bloatware that you can uninstall, just software as far as I can tell. Its unlocked and works fine with my provider.

    • Are JB open today?
Want to buy, but using Telstra 12 month plan with JB voucher… Assume they won't run out of stock today?

      • Just noticed the local jb i clicked and collected last night isnt available. Hoping tomorrow am they'll have picked it otherwise it'll be a mad rush to find another store that has it.

      • But the offer is online only though? Not sure whether you can apply the code in store…I could (and might) be wrong here

  • eh, pulled the trigger. I'm relatively happy with my pixel 4a 5g. But $750 for a 2020 flagship phone with these specs is too good to pass up.
I'll miss stock android and the long term updates but the 4a is kinda boring and uninspired. Also not super happy with the build quality, feels a little cheap.

Goy my pixel for $650 on sale so should be able to recoup most of the costs selling it.

  • Does Oppo allow bootloader to be unlocked. If not then the phone will be pretty horribly dated if not useless in three years. Might be better to wait for a sale on a ASUS ROG 3

    • Sadly at this point in time no.

      See here:

      https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/root-guide.4111563/

Great phone at a great price IHMO.

Also, I'd like to point out (it may have been put, and I missed it), as it's TELSTRA phone (official status) you won't be locked out of VoLTE and VoWiFi/5G as some of the 'grey' Android are. (ie. oneplus handsets - where you have to fiddle everytime there is an incremental AOSP update; Telstra can also push out a carrier update that might change things as well..).

This is a very big advantage!

  • +1

I've had this phone since Nov 2020 (~$960 after cashback) and it hasn't skipped a beat. A++ camera.
If I needed a phone, I wouldn't hesitate buying it again at this price.

  • +3

That was slowest trigger pull ever, but I did it. My poor old Samsung S6 is looking at me in disgust. Thanks OP.

    • Same, my s7 is started to scream for a replacement. S7 is a good phone though…

      • My S7 still going strong but pulled the trigger just so i can take good pictures compared to S7. I am guessing its going to be a huge leap.

      • My s7 edge broke 1 year after use. Screen (front & back )repair cost > $500 so gave up. Samsung service was so bad.

  • Thanks OP.

  • +1

Kinda regret getting this as my phone is still running good, never thought I'd be the one to change phones every year
    But this deal too good

  • started thinking about a new phone yesterday, this popped up, bought one.

    Easy

  • Those pulling triggers should note that 4300 Mah is not enough to power QHD @ 120hz and 6.8 (something) screen :-(

    • +3

Reports online seem to state otherwise from what I have found so far. Of course it's not going to be amazing battery life at that point, but it should get you a day of normal use.

Also you can set the phone to automatically swap between FHD and QHD depending on content, same with the refresh rate.

  • +3

there seems method to unlock the dual sim on this phone: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-switch-software-reg…

    • That's interesting. I would have thought it was single sim because only one physical space in the phone. This link suggests its just a software restriction.

      • Got the phone yesterday. There is physical space for a single nano sim in the sim card tray. So this wont work

        • Somewhere else in this thread they mention you can buy a replacement dual sim tray from aliexpress or something to make it work :) Me, I'll just be sticking with the single sim.

  • Software can upgrade to latest one android 11?

    • -1

      Yes

      • Would this dependent to Telstra mercy?

        • No, Android 11 is already available for this

    • I've just got this phone from jbhifi. No android 11 available

      • I received the Android 11 update months ago..

        • Do you have this Telstra branded one? Or the standard one? Branded ones like Telstra or Optus need to be approved by that telco before being pushed.

  • +1

I wonder if this phone will still get updates a year out from here?

  • +2

what a freaking awesome deal..bought it 6 months ago and worthed every cent

    • how are you finding the battery life? It isn't ranked too high on the gsm arena battery life test results compared to alot of other flagships unfortunately :( i suppose made up by the fast charger, although not sure if one can easily buy an after market one that charges as fast?

      • I run it on the highest res and refresh rate always and this is my first phone with 120Hz QHD+ display so my conclusion is that it looks amazing in terms of battery life, it's not so great.

It still lasts me a full day (9am - 7pm) though if I know I am going to be home late, I probably would have the battery saving mode on and use less during the day.

My full day of usage usually consists of web browsing, camera, and a lot of Google Maps navigation. Usually, I have like 15-30% left at night.

But just like you said, the OPPO fast charger is currently one of the fastest on the market, just plug it in for like 5-15 mins (especially when the battery is really low, it charges even faster), then you'll be good to go soon again.

For this price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy, UNLESS you really want to the latest specs and probably an extra year or two of upgrade.

The latest ColorOS is also really good, I wanted the OnePlus and its OxygenOS bad but I didn't regret getting the OPPO.

Tried Xiaomi for a while and also used Samsung for a long time, the ColorOS is both beautifully designed yet so clean and smooth in my opinion.

        • The only downside of getting this phone is the lack of protective cases, unlike the OnePlus which is huge in Europe I suppose, you'd be lucky to even find 2-3 three real good cases that last long.

But once again, to anyone who's considering buying, don't get tricked by the amount of discount (half price) this phone is getting, it's a top OPPO flagship phone with great specs and build quality :)

          Hope this helps.

          • @beOson: I also just checked my battery stats, Google Maps used up 36% of my battery during my trip yesterday FYI.

            • @beOson: Which means it's a GMap issue? Honest question

              • @BigLeviathan: I am not sure, maybe.
Watching videos on YouTube for 1-1.5 hours only consume about 5-10% which I think isn't too bad at all.

  • Yes it has great specs but it costs a little bit more than the s21. ref https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/612845?page=24#comment so which is best overall value for money since Samsung Galaxy S21 5G 128GB could be had for $539 after a S7 trade in and probably is more future proof with android OS updates?

    • Argh didn't know about this samsung offer…I wish I knew this beforehand

Saves me living in the dog house last night as misses didn't approve the buying as my s7 32GB deemed to be okay by her…

Edit: just tried the estimate, seems I'm not missing much "Your estimated trade in price based on your info is $10^^ until 29.04.21"

  • If only I didn't get the s21 trade up deal…..

  • +1

Mine is ready for pick up now but I'm getting cold feet. I'm wondering if Android 11 and ColorOS 11 will be available for this phone…

    • Someone said before yes you can upgrade to latest software pls reply once you do that thanks

      • +1

I actually just rang Oppo Customer Support and confirmed that:

        1. This phone can be used overseas
        2. Android and ColorOS 11 will be available for this phone

        Off to JB I go…

        • I think they have lied to us. There is no android 11 on this phone.

          • @hero1211: If it needs to get approval from Telstra that means it will be delayed a few weeks compared to the official update rollout.

            • @bert-lifts: The official update was around 4 months ago. Not sure how long we have to wait

    • It's ColorOS 11 already
