Get Unlimited Free Texts to Any Mobile + Free US Phone No

1780

Send free text and picture messages, plus get a FREE real phone number on the Web at pinger.com/textfree.

Other platforms like phone don't seem to work since you need to be in the US store and the company told me they will try and make it global soon. Maybe Android will work. Please confirm.

MOD EDIT - Always free, and software so could come under the standard we apply to apps which means it belongs in forums. However it also includes free SMS and US phone number which is permissible. No further reports or comments necessary - Thanks

cant seem to download the ipad app :(
    or find it in fact

    • You need to have a US iTunes Account for the IOS App.

      • my bad

  • How much does it cost an Australian mobile number to text back the number they give you?

    • that would depend on your carrier. virgin charges 35c for e.g.

  • sweeeeet!

  • I would not run the iphone app after reading this

"textfree app on iphone 4 uses too much 3g data"

If you have a jailbroken iphone/ipad get the Firewall iP app off cydia and add these address's to block all ads
      *.tapjoyads.com
      *.vdopia.com
      *.adtilt.com
      ads.pinger.com
      *mobclix.com
      *.edgecastcdn.net
      *.amazonaws.com

might also help with 3g data usage

  • It's only for the US store I cant get it please some one help me how to get it :(

You need to create a US iTunes account. Very easy to do. Just sign out of your current account and choose to create a new one. Then create a new account with another email address using a fake US address. Dont worry about putting any billing info in. You can then download all free apps off the us iTunes, if you want to buy paid ones then purchase iTunes cards from bestbuy.com. Once you've downloaded the apps just sign out of the us account and sign back int your aussie one. Works perfectly.

  • even works with my German mobile number currently roaming on the Telstra network :p

App works perfectly with my iPhone and iPad. Only problem is for people to reply they had better have international texts included in their cap. Otherwise it's going to be approximately 50c per text on top of their cap. I know Telstra doesn't include international texts in their caps.

Just downloaded the iPhone app. Works great.

  • thanks!! i got a pretty interesting US number.
i'm off to prank call myself

    • What you mean prank myself?

    • prank text? :P

SMSFUN is the best, it has the most uncluttered screen, it sends your actual number to them so they can easily reply just like a normal sms.

    http://www.smsfun.com.au/ref/1446898

You get 40 free SMS a day.

More than enough for most people and the site works well on mobile devices.

Works really well on plans that charge SMS's you can really cut your costs down that way.

Get adlock extension. I don't see any adds on pinger.

      • Support good services. The ads aren't that bad anyway.

    • gets stuck on verifying message for me :S

    • You should disclose your referral link, freemoneyhunter.

Thanks! No excuse not to text daily to my hubby who lives in Africa. Darn ;)

  • Just wondering if anyone knows how much it costs to reply to these messages?

Sorry if i'm asking something already mentioned :( its been a long day haha

    • If the person replying replies through pinger then it's free, otherwise it depends on their mobile plan. (It's a US number they reply to.)

Cheers OP. Got a pretty good number too, not that it really matters

So how do you actually text to Australian mobile phone?

    • As stated above… So if you want to text 0412345678 you'd enter 61412345678

      • LOL, just realised my phone was on airplane mode.

        • That could possibly answer your problem. :P

      • I think you'll need a + out front for that to workm ie:

        +61412345678

  • Free Software/Websites
Discussions for free websites, online services, software and apps. Those that are always free should be posted here rather than submitting them as deals.

    From www.ozbargain.com.au/forum

    • It's more noticeable as a deal. I rarely look at forums. This post is the exception rather than the rule.

      • I saw the mod edit just after I commented

  • hmmmm….

well…. have tested this on two 'phones'. I can send to pinger from both, no problem. However….

Galaxy tab…. amysim….. send and receive, no probs
Galaxy S2…. virgin…. can only send to pinger, cannot receive from pinger.

Probably not a major issue, as I am unlikely to be texting myself, but any thoughts on why this might be?

Virgin issue or galaxy s2 issue or android issue…. ('normal' texts come and go no problem… including international texts)

yep, confirmation that it doesn't work with AU iPhone store, also seems that when you sign up on the website, an AU zip code is not valid.

  • Hmmmm… Can I use the US number with google voice? :D

  • -1

Cant download the android app from the market. Does anyone know if downloading the APK would work?

  • how do they make money out of this?

    • As posted before they make money from banner ads.

    • do they scan your messages at all? do messages have ads in them?

      • They may scan for certain keywords for security (Read their terms + policy if you are paranoid) as they are under US legislation but as of now they have no ads in the texts.

Awesome thank! This is exactly what I needed while on holidays in the USA (where prepaid sims are super expensive and generally include no data).

I used it to activate a google voice account too. Which means I now have free SMS (pinger) and outgoing USA free calls (google voice).

Of course you probably cant use it to activate a google voice in Australia unless you use a VPN.

  • Are you able to recieve txt msgs to pinger? Or can you only send msgs with it?

    • You can send and receive but people need to make sure they can afford to SMS a US number when replying.

      • how do you check for received txt msgs with pinger? I can't seem to find where to read them…

        • On their app/website.

  • Check

I was able to register a new USA account using this method
    http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/create-itunes-account-access-us…

  • I'm going to buy a prepaid reloadable card from Auspost.
But they require a mobile number to send the PIN number to you(SMS).

    Can I use this?
Can Auspost SMS the PIN to my Pinger account?

  • I can't message myself even when adding the +61 to the front

    • yeah mine stopped working too a week or so ago :(

      • just tried the web app for it and i get this error

"Sorry! Messages headed outside the US are temporarily out of service. We're working hard to fix this soon!"
