            • @ihfree: Correct.

              • +1

@Glenn Ward: "No boring lock-in contracts: Wave goodbye to old-fashioned lock-in contracts. We give you the freedom and flexibility of a month-to-month plan with your internet service. Stay as long as you want, or leave when you like. It’s all up to you."

You don't have surprised customers when they learn about the mismatch between marketing and the terms and conditions?

                • -2

                  @ihfree: Lock-in contracts = 6, 12, 18 or 24 month terms

We are month to month, you can leave when you like, just provide the required notice period.

If you want day to day/zero notice terms, there are other providers out there…. who certainly are not offering 50M for $50….

                  • @Glenn Ward: So how does the churn away from Exetel work? I am on Superloop atm and thinking of taking this up but obviously would want to churn away after 6 months when the price goes to $79.
Do I need to notify at the 5 month mark and then churn away just before the 6 months end to avoid any downtime??

                    • @cosjav: Any advise on this @Glenn?

                    • +1

@cosjav: Actually you would want to notify at the 6th month where the $50 is ending in that month, notify in that month to cancel the service, and churn away by the 7th month.

EDIT: I mean notify on the FIRST DAY in that 6th month, so that way it will count 30 days from there. Hope that helps

                      • +1

@jmytch: Yes that would work. You could give notice any time prior.
Exetel are not for me as I'm not a fan of this sort of requirement… I'm with Future Broadband and they have a 14 notice and that is bad enough. At least with them if the 14 days rolls into the next month, that month is pro rata and not a bill for a new month.

                  • @Glenn Ward: Agreed, good value and tempting as i'm between offers.

However, your marketing blurb and terms and conditions are at odds. Secondly, the Productreview, Trustpilot and Google reviews don't do you any favours.

  • I can't any information about the upload speed for nbn50 plan.

    • 20M upload

  • Got this plan eversince NBN was available in my place. The internet always disconnects from time to time on the first week but they fix the issue by installing an attenuator on my nbn connection box and until then no more dropouts to my connection. Happy customer and AFAIK it is the cheapest to date. 😷

    • Oo is that fttp? Sound like you are too close to the exchange? Who ever thought that would be an issue lol.

  • My $40 Telstra NBN Covid deal ends in July so this seems like a good option to change over to. Is there any downtime when changing NBN provider, we are on HFC if it makes any difference.

    • +1

      Should be pretty much instant

  • +4

Should mention credit check in article description.

Dont know why a credit check is needed for a no contract month to month plan.

I dont think AussieBroadband or Tangerine or Superloop do credit checks.

    Also poor reviews in ProductReview

Its a big no no for me.

    • Used to be a exetel member when they were offering $50 /month for Nbn25 in the past but then after contract expired they were gonna charge me like $70 or something I can't remember which I would never pay honestly.

Can confirm their support is terrible, but going to belong can at least say that exetel at least has a phone call number unlike belong which offers nothing like that and potentially takes days to reply.

But I didn't really have any problems with them, may sign up again depending on if they would give this offer to me,(was last an active user like in 2019 or something)

  • I've been with exetel for 10+ years, since ADSL days. Never needed support so can't comment. I get max NBN speeds on their NBN 100 plan. My ping is always the lowest among friends but I am in the Mayfield exchange.

    • "My ping is always the lowest among friends"

We constantly win/equal the lowest ping time and upload speeds in the ACCC MBA tests:

      https://www.accc.gov.au/regulated-infrastructure/communicati…

      • How about download speeds?

        • They are awesome!

          • @Glenn Ward: Any suggestion for a better modem to go with Exetel with better WIFI range and strength? The one I got 2 years ago from Exetel is not good.

          • @Glenn Ward: According to your linked report only 90.4% of users reached the advertised download speed with only Dodo having a lower score. Is March an anomaly?

            • @ihfree: ACCC tested our services prior to us applying the extra 15% nbn AVC (tail) speed boost in December.

The next ACCC testing should see us as one of the highest performing RSP's I believe. Our internal testing shows this so far!

Here's my speed test - firmly inside 'busy hour' with two TV's streaming 4k now - https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/d/303690920

            • @ihfree: Dodo is sh*t crap

        • Sorry for the late reply, a CODMW update just came down at 12.45MB/s, 6:42PM.

      • +2

Although your upload speeds are best, it actually shows that your ping times are 2nd/3rd worst. (Figure 13).

Unfortunately it also shows you are 2nd worst for download speeds.

      • What is your looking glass, and which states do you have a POP in?

    • What ping do you get?

  • +1

They still have a poor reputation from when they used to go on random rampages cancelling user accounts and changing plans willy nilly.

These days the service is no worse than anyone else and the support is no worse than anyone else. Of course if you have any problems they will blame you and every man under the sun before taking responsibility, but that’s pretty standard.

I’m with them and can’t complain.

  • I am with Exetel for 2 years and it has been good for me. The only thing I don't like is the free modem they gave you. Its very basic and no extra functionality, the WIFI range is so bad and I can't get good signal in the other side of the room (my apartment is only 2 bed rooms so it's not a big place).

Rep - can you suggest a better modem to go with Exetel in an apartment?

    • How much do you want to spend? Do you have FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC?

      • FTTP I think as its a new apartment (2 years old).

        • Asus RT-AX55 & TP-Link Archer AX20 are good value.

          • -1

@Twix: The nbn mandates that the RSP supplies their nbn registered modem, in our case, the ZTE H268A to its customers.

If we have to log a fault for you with the nbn and they see a non-approved modem, they provide us lower levels of support which can make resolving faults harder and take longer. This is especially true for the nbn VDSL2 services on FTTN/B.

Obviously, this deal is a BYO/No Modem deal but you can get our modem for only $79 with free shipping which is pretty cheap 'insurance'. Even if you keep it in the cupboard till you need it…

Our modem also helps considerably with new service setup (supplied 'plug-and-play') and remote support if you need it. It also has two independant VoIP lines, perfect for landline replacement (as well as our awesome value $10 VoIP plan) plus fax or business line if you need it.

            • @Glenn Ward: That is all well and good. @arctan has FTTP and can swap out their own router for the ZTE H268A easily enough if support asks.

              • +2

@Twix: @Twix, Glen is mistaken, it’s not mandated anymore, your free to use your own one.

It would be more it’s easier for there support to learn one modem/router than anything NBN wants.

    • Why not run an ExeFix scan to see what the issue is?

      https://www.exetel.com.au/exefix

If you can't figure out the issue, give our support engineers a call on 13 39 38 and they'll sort it out for you.

I find the ZTE H268A great in my two story house. Obviously, YMMV in your situation but ExeFix should give you some good ideas/suggestions.

    • For reference, what model modem did they provide you? Is it the same as the current free modem - the ZTE h268a?

      • +1

        Yeah it's the ZTE modem.

        • You're modem sounds faulty of you're getting weak wifi signal in the same room.

I'd try a reset and maybe arguing a case for a replacement under Australian Consumer Law.

  • Our engineers are here to help.
They will work you to sort any issue you may have as quickly as possible.

    • I would rather they did the work.

  • I'm with them. I can’t complain. Never have any trouble with speed. Local speed test just now in peak time https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/4551826297
I'm on 50/20, regional Victoria. I don't have their supplied router.

  • Does the referral code do anything?

    • I don't see a referral settings for Exetel.

    • no

  • I have an existing Exetel service under my name at my mum's house and want to set up new service with this deal for my own place. Am I a new customer in this regard? I called the CS number but your sales are close for the day. Thanks.

      New address = new customer/service

      • Cheers, thanks!

Negging for the credit check. It's unnecessary.

Not worth it with the credit check and 30 days notice.

      • -8

        Not worth the $180 savings?

        • +8

I can understand the credit checks.

However, the 30-days notice is a deal breaker.
In fact, your "no lock-in contract" claim is completely misleading when you have this clause hidden away. I am surprised that the ACCC hasn't come down hard on Exetel for this.

  • +1

    Static IP or CGNAT?

    • CG-NAT on setup then you log into My Exetel and request the free change to Public Static.

We are also dual stack IPv4/v6 and provide /60 for v6 as standard and /56 as free option.

  • any deals for 25/5 ?

    • No, nbn does not want new 12/1 or 25/5 customers, hence no special wholesale incentives on those speed tiers…

  • exetel still wants me to pay the $300 new development fee to sign up. which database is exetel using? its out-dated.

    • We use the nbn database to advise New Development fee applicability. If you have evidence as to why the charge isn't applicable, please provide to our sales team. You can also opt to amortise the cost over 12 months if you wish.

      • I signed up with superloop 6 months ago and they can see that the charge is no longer applicable.

  • Going to leave Superloop for this, thanks.

  • Will I be eligible for this promo if I place an order before 31 July for activation in August?

    • Assuming we are still running it by then, yes.

      • I may do the same, what is the typical switch time from another operator with FTTC. Can I use BYO router without any signup fees ?

      • Tried to sign up, realised I can't specify activation date. Also it keeps insisting for a delivery address. I thought new plan don't have to come with a new modem so a bit confused

  • +1

anyone care to share some Intl speedtests? to LA USA, London UK and Dubai-UAE?
    thx

    • Exetel use Telstra and Superloop for ip transit so I would suspect that international speeds would be decent

      • +1

thanks noted, anyone care to share some Intl speedtest results?

        • My friend is with Exetel when I speak to him next I'll ask him to run some tests

    • Surprisingly good when I checked a day or two ago. New York at about 80% of paid data rate (100).

      • That's what Tier 1 IP Transit with Telstra Wholesale provides (plus the largest on-net connectivity in Australia). We also have Superloop that has an excellent array of international peers and provides us cable system diversity our of Australia as well as local diversity in each of our 10 mainland PoP sites.

  • How to select the activation (a specific) date?

    • Call sales on 13 39 38 and they'll arrange it for you

  • @Glenn Ward where is the CVC graphs on the website?

    • -5

No, we just run our network uncongested and deliver consistently high speed to all of our customers.

      • +8

If you run uncongested network then provide CVC graphs to prove it. No CVC graphs = maybe you dont have enough CVC Capacity at specific POIs.

Poor part on Exetel. Garbage ISP, look at Aussie Broadband their network is uncongested and have CVC graphs in place which is useful for customer to see it. What's your excuse?

      • +1

No, we just run our network uncongested

Wouldn't it be great marketing to demonstrate your alleged uncongested network by publishing your CVC graphs? ;-)

        • -1

I'm sure I could show you any graph that you'd believe…

  • I’ve been with Exetel since October 2012. I have few complaints… a few issues in the early days but that was about billing, not network performance. My demands on the service are small by comparison with some of you, these days mostly streaming, and any issues I have can usually be traced to wifi within the house. I’ve had the odd dropout from time to time but its never for long. I’ve often considered leaving but then I wonder why I would. Exetel provides the service I need at a price I can afford (fortunately I’m grandfathered on a slightly lower price than that advertised)… if the price goes up, I’ll have to reconsider but until then… all good. 50/20 FTTN, and a Netcomm NF17ACV modem purchased privately.

  • +1

    Hi Glenn,

Can you explain the $10 per month extra charge for Exmouth WA 6707? 50/20mbps shows as $60 per month

    • Regional pricing. The backhaul is more expensive.

    • +5

@perthmusic Do not go with Exetel, it is poor business decision to charge $10 more for regional when most ISPs out there charge the same cost no matter if you're regional, metro, rural customer.

We all should be complaining about Exetel regional pricing to ACCC, that is bad business practice. No other ISPs does this.

      • +3

agreed, no other company does this.

        • -2

All companies make commercial decisions. If a customer is more expensive to serve, the price will be higher.

If the service or price does not fit your requirements, please feel free to choose a supplier who will do a better job for you.

          • +2

@Glenn Ward: Exetel is just garbage ISP.

Superloop first 6 months $59.99/m same price every where no matter if you're regional, rural customer. It is just EXETEL that are charging more, ripping customers off.

            • -1

              @jmytch: Isn't choice a wonderful thing!

              Have a nice day.

  • I was paying $59 for 50/20Mbps plan for a couple of years, but I had to disconnect it recently cos I moved houses. So had to go with someone else after.

    • You can come back now for $50/month!

      • haha, just for 6 months? no thanks, can't go through the trouble of switching to another provider after.

        • Why would you leave after 6 months?

Just think of all of the awesome Exetel goodness you'll be getting!

          • @Glenn Ward: For $79 per month? that's $20 more for the same plan and service I had previously.
            Doesn't really make sense.

            • @findthatbargain: The day's of $59 50M nbn are unfortunately over (without nbn promotional subsidies)… but $50 for 6 months and then for $79 thereafter, this includes a free public static IPv4 address (worth $5-$10/month if that's important to you).

This works out to an "effective cost" of $64.50 per month over 12 months.. just $4.51/month more expensive than the old plan.. that's only 1 cup of coffee per month more!

  • I have bad experience with Exetel and left it few years ago

    • I have 100,000+ happy customers who love the exetel service! :-)
