  • Who is Keanu?
    Really want to know

    • +10

      Surname rhymes with Leaves

Googled "Keanu alienware" and the results were:

      • Keanu Reeves used an Alienware laptop in the movie "Replicas". No idea if that's it or just a random fact picture here
      • His face is also on their promo here
      • +1

Good research, No wonder this code has been live for so long. Everyone love Keanu!

    • He's the guy from the Matrix

      • +2

i think you mean he’s the guy from Bill and Teds.

      • what is the matrix?

        • +6

Unfortunately, no one can be told what the matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.

  • +1

    Good deal?

    • +2

      not terrible.
Monitor is a bit lame, but the rest is pretty decent.

3080's are super hard to buy atm and will burn through btc mining pretty well ;-)

      • -2

        BTC mining? Not directly ;)

Careful, mentioning crypto mining here gets you burned at the stake…

  • +8

Perhaps these pre-built PCs are the only way to get your hands on RTX3080s I guess..

  • +2

buy the PC and sell the 3080 on ebay for $3500

    • Would be lucky if prices are still that high by the time it arrives. Stock is trickling out, mwave had them in stock for $2k last week, PCByte has multiple models in stock right now for $2800-2900.

      • +7

Prices are increasing for 3080s still. Most places that were selling them for $1999 last week are selling them for $2200+ this week. I don't see it getting better this year.

That being said, you won't get $3500 for this 3080.

        • +2

Yeah, $2k won't happen again anytime soon (or at least will need very quick reflexes if it does), but anyone buying this would be way better off just buying it to get a gaming rig at a half reasonable price, not for flipping anything. Would be lucky to make it back on the second hand market.

edit: Looking around I can find them from $2500 in stock right now. I forgot how good fridays are. Might even pick up a 3060ti for $1500. Not a good price but at least I can get it in stock.

        • I wouldn’t be so sure, Dogecoin might get another FOMO run :)

  • Not bad tbh. 3080s are rare as they come

  • RTX 3080 Mobility Modular Edition

any idea how they compare to a regular old scalpers delight version?

      • +1

well, dell is the only one you could possibly get. and it's not too bad as twin fan version, better than blower jet version.

    • sorry but where does it mention this? Can't seem to find this…Thanks.
      I wonder what's the difference between a normal Asus/Gigabye/MSI ones….

  • +1

Ships in 29-37 business days. So a 6 week wait (which is pretty good, it's not like 3080's will be in stock by then and in stock 3070s are $2k right now).

  • +5

    Dell Alienware 27 Monitor - AW2720HF

    27 inch and 240hz refresh rate… but 1080p.
Absolutely disgusting companies actually put FHD on screens larger than 24"

  • +3

Does anyone else find it strange that Dell pair that pc with a 1080p monitor?!? Certainly that rig could push 120+fps in most titles at 1440p!

    • Random Part/Price Generator

    • +2

My guess it’s easy for them to clear stock on a not so popular monitor anymore.

    • The screen is just a bonus in my opinion, I'm palming mine off to the missus.

      • +7

        Palming what?

    • Yes but you want 240FPS 120Hz is like 60Hz now

  • waste of money for the monitor

  • Damn 29-37 business days for shipping tho

  • +1

Every time I see a Dell deal I've got to remind myself its Dell, good luck to anyone that gets 1year warranty.

    • +2

Yep, one of the worst companies I've had to deal with for warranty issues. I wouldn't touch anything Dell without a 3-year warranty, and even then I expect to have issues.

It's a shame because the technicians have always been good to deal with and I like their designs. The sales and customer service teams are just horrendous.

    • +1

I got one year warranty on a previous Dell deal. What am I in for? I figured the ACCC would have my back for any real issues that appeared within the first 3 years on a +$3000 computer.

      • +1

The ACCC won't do anything for you. That isn't their job. If anything happens to your PC after 12 months Dell will try to charge you for it.

        • From their website:

"Under the Australian Consumer Law, automatic consumer guarantees apply to many products and services you buy regardless of any other warranties suppliers sell or give to you."

          Am I misinterpreting that?

          • +1

@teslacoil33: Nope, your purchase should be covered by a statutory warranty under ACL and Dell should fix the issues for free after the express warranty expires. However, Dell won't do that (or at least will try not to) and the ACCC will not help you (they don't respond to individual complaints). If you go through my comment history on XPS deals you can read my experiences with this.

The ACCC has prosecuted Dell for breaching ACL in the past but nothing has changed.

      • FYI I went with the previous deal on the clearance R11, but the extra

This deal is with the extra warranty added is $3,535.77 via website with LOVEKEANU code.

However I spoke to customer service and they added the LOVEKEANU code and an extra discount bringing it to $3,493.50 delivered. And cancelled my R11 order.

Be wary the estimated delivery is now longer.

        • how did you cancel your order?

          • +1

@dmcneice: You can go to your previous order and there is an option to, or just open live chat and ask to cancel.

        • Interesting… given R11 deal was late June delivery, how far out did you get pushed?

    • Never buying Dell ever again after blowing $2,500 on an XPS laptop that lasted two years. Had 3 motherboards replaced with the same overheating nVidia 8400 GPU. Once my extended warranty ran out they refused to replace my motherboard, apparently my previous replacements were all gratis. Oh but I could finally now buy a replacement motherboard with non overheating intel graphics for $1,000. Ended up buying a HP laptop for the same price which is still going after 11 years so get lost Dell.

  • Anyone know the best place to buy matching RAM upgrades from this?

    • +2

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaAYZaQ6JdM

Check on this and RAM looks like ok for many RAMs, including recent deals.

I normally check MSY and compare with online shops if no ozbargain deals.

You may want to purchase soon, as RAM is set price increase in following months.

      • MSY at the end of the street, sorted. $239 for non-RGB 2x16gb 3200mhz.

Sorry if this is basic question, if I stick with 3200mhz HyperX Fury ram, is there any issues with getting 2x16gb to go with the 2x8gb. i.e. 48gb of ram all up? Might help a bit on the ol' Chia plotting.

  • This may come with updated 3080 which locks mining, won't sale anywhere near $2000

    • Have nvidia actually confirmed when lite has rate 3080s will start being produced? 3080 ti will be hash rate limited but not seen confirmation on 3080 yet

      • Nvidia has no obligation to "confirm" when to rollout new 60ti/70/80 with lite hash rate before they actually hit market, but it's quite obvious this will happen no later than 70ti/80ti launch. So from late May, it's more of a gamble if you plan to take new card for resale/mining.

        • Why would it be obvious that it won’t happen any later than Ti launch? Reports I’ve read mentioned it would happen after. Also they may need to be careful about how “quietly” they do introduce it. They can’t just degrade performance of a card without users being informed. Don’t think that would fly in Australia at least

          • +1

@steve84: Yes the ACCC has our back here. Regardless of the manufacturers/retailers claims or marketing surrounding a product, it's perfectly reasonable to assume that a product that can do X will continue to do X unless specifically advising it no longer will.

The ACCC say "fit for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are commonly supplied" and I think Nvidia posting their quarterly earnings which illustrate exactly why a percentage of the population are purchasing these devices is proof enough.

That being said, it would be a bit crazy if they released chips that gimped the hash rate without any warning. Why would they risk legal issues and returns? It's an obviously avoidable nightmare.

            • -2

              @AaronR:

              1. The ACCC doesn't have anybody's back - they don't take up individual complaints and are completely feckless.

              2. Dell hasn't made any representations about their systems' suitability for mining and NVIDIA has explicitly said their consumer GPUs are not intended to be used for mining.

              3. NVIDIA has said their products will be hashrate limited in the future.

The ACCC say "fit for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are commonly supplied" and I think Nvidia posting their quarterly earnings which illustrate exactly why a percentage of the population are purchasing these devices is proof enough.

Any first-year law student could tell you it is infinitely more complicated than that.

              • @[Deactivated]: Regardless of how legally complicated it might be.. it’s simple to understand that if Nvidia start selling a new revision of 3080 without making it possible for a prospective buyer to know that it is a new revision - that will cause them problems and for what? It’s not like they’re losing out here. Cards would be selling for above MSRP without factoring in miners.

                • -1

@steve84: What problems? I don't work in this area of law but I can't think of any causes of action for that. The offences in ACL relating to misleading conduct in trade or commerce do not apply since neither Dell nor NVIDIA have made any representations about it being suitable for mining. You can't mislead someone without saying anything about it. The fact a small portion of users (which crypto is in comparison to gaming and content production) have used it for a particular purpose recently against manufacturer's recommendations is not significant to its primary purpose.

                  • -1

@[Deactivated]: Nvidia acknowledge their cards are used for mining. They validated that use case by developing dedicated mining cards which are basically the same thing without video outputs lol. So clearly there are people who’ve bought 3080s in full or part because of their mining capability. In full knowledge of this to then reduce the performance without properly informing customers I believe would be a legal problem.
Regardless that wasn’t the problem I was mainly referring to. It would piss off a bunch of people, including gamers who intend to crypto mine on the side. That’s a PR problem

                    • -1

                      @steve84:

NVIDIA explicitly said these cards aren't for mining. https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2021/02/18/geforce-cmp/

They've informed customers. It's been known for months. And again, they haven't made any representations about their suitability for mining. There would be no legal issues.

It would piss off a bunch of people, including gamers who intend to crypto mine on the side. That’s a PR problem

Which would be heavily outweighed by the gratitude of the pissed off gamers who can't get cards currently because of the ridiculous prices. Gaming is their long-term market, crypto isn't.

                      • +1

@[Deactivated]: They can say what they want in a blog post. Their earnings wouldn’t be where it is without crypto miners, like it or not.
Quietly introducing the lite hash to 3080 without giving a buyer some indication they they’re getting the crippled version will do nothing for the gratitude of gamers. GPUs are still going to be crazy prices for some time yet.

                        • @steve84: Reports Dell support have confirmed 3080s in R12 will not be lite hash
                          https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/n0y9t2/does_newe…

                          • @steve84: I didn't take that as being a definitive/committed response from Dell. Per the Reddit thread:

                            Reddit op:

Does newer R12 with 3060 ti - 3080 comes with Lite Hash Rate
I just saw the news about this Lite Hash Rate, does newer R12 that will arrives on June comes with this GPU?

                            Dell:

Highly unlikely at this time, but nobody knows for sure. It's something that looks like it's being phased in slowly.

                            • +1

@jace88: I was referring to this comment
“ There's only Nvidia card for me to choose. I've contacted my Dell sales representative, and he says nope, mine doesn't have that. Hopefully it will be fine, mine estimated to come in on early June”

                              I may have misinterpreted though

        • +1

My understanding was this change will happen after release of 70ti and 80ti.

    • Don't think Nividia really could, unless they do a re-design which could only work by newer driver, which is very unlikely in this setup. Even new driver comes with limiter, miner would just use old driver, like what they are doing with 3060ti.

  • +7

But does it come with a ring sizer?

    • +2

      game changer

    • If you hit up customer support they might throw one in. I actually hit up customer support as I wanted the
"3Yrs Premium Support and Onsite Service
      Alienware recommended
Limited time : Select 3 years of Premium Support for the price of 2
      + $223.56"

Deal via website was $3,535.77 with LOVEKEANU

They added the LOVEKEANU code and an extra discount to $3,493.50

So a ringer sizer might be a go.

      • Sorry just wondering why you had to reach out to customer support for that? Cant you just select it before adding to cart? Just trying to understand how to get the extra warranty + discount via chat?

So you ended up paying over the phone?

        • I had an existing order and asked if they could add that discounted warranty to my existing order. They said they couldn't. I also asked if that wasn't possibly, can I just cancel and order the new one, which they offered me a discount on, originally without the LOVEKEANU discount.

I ended up being sent and invoice at a lower price and paying via credit card.

          • @Testeagle: damn, I thought u meant we can get extra discount for this current deal lol
            Good on ya though

            • +1

@homersyd: Honestly, as this isn't clearance stock now, you could try your luck. Technically they discounted the already discounted price, just I had added the extra warranty.

Personally I like the extra protection added for only a couple of hundred bucks.

      • I think the catch is whether or not you get the CR though.

  • +1

Just in time for classic BC, bought 10 thx OP

    • Don't let me get sucked back in… I went back for Classic already…

  • +1

went to cancel my R11 order and re-ordered this instead.

    • I did that. I added the extra warranty for 2 years for $233.56.

      • +1

Did you get the 3 years for the price of 2 as it is currently showing?

        • Yes, that's what I got.

    • why?

  • delivery time is an issue for these deals

  • Can't see the new gen Alienware PCs with Ryzen CPUs. Appears that Dell favours Intel.

    • +2

I thought it was obvious….both blue teams?!

    • Aurora R10 was the last one with Ryzen

  • Is it worth upgrading to dell's 1440p monitor?

    • As in the QHD 165Hz monitor? Definitely

      • Dell alienware AW2721D

        • $494 extra seems a bit steep. You can get the the Dell S2721DGF QHD 165Hz monitor for under $500 during sales. You can buy the monitor with the upgrade cash and either have a dual monitor setup or resell the old one for a fair price.
I know it's not quite as good 165Hz vs 240Hz and FreeSync (G-Sync compatible) instead of G-Sync Ultimate but it doesn't seem worth it imo

  • Theres going to be alot of these monitors up for sale

  • Delivery times changed to 35–43 business days

  • +1

Got offered this as a free upgrade when I tried to cancel my R11 deal. Worth a try for those who got the regrets.

    • What did you get as a free upgrade? I'm in the same boat with R11, cheers

      • The same as I’d ordered, but R12

        • ok nice work cheers

        • did it change your delivery date?

          • @denlife: I cancelled and resisted the offer to upgrade, think it didn't change it though

            • @cc23: Did they offer you the 11700F or KF processor do you know? I'm not sure if it is worth trying - might be worth it for KF (given I'm planning to improve the shipped cooling solution) but doesn't seem worth it for the 11th gen F variant give performance so similar to 10th gen and I presume the cashback would be lost with a new order.

              • +1

@blues99: It was the F not KF, I think if it was KF I would have taken it.
