Does anyone know if this account linked card has international transcation fee?

    • +2

According to their website fee brochure:
      Conversion Fee* ………………………………………….3.00% of transaction
Applies when a transaction is performed overseas using a Visa Card. Charged at the time of the transaction.
*Transactions performed overseas are subject to a conversion fee payable to Cuscal, the principal member of Visa International under which we provide our Visa Cards.

      • TA!

      • +5

        yuck

        • I don't know how international fees are legal, its just straight up a scam

  • +6

Near Free Money - me like!

  • +3

Opened an account about a year ago with the privous $50 promotion. So probably not eligible, but I'll give it a go.

    • +2

Update: Received the $50, so definitely eligible if you've had an account with them previously.

  • When you sign up, does it say if you have been a member previously?

  • +1

    They have Apple Pay?

    • Yeah would want to know this too if anyone knows if we will be given a digital card straight after sign up?

Otherwise, how long does it roughly take for the physical card to arrive?

      • +1

You can add it to Apple Pay from the app, but it appears it will only work once the card is activated. I guess this means you have to wait for the physical card. I opened an account on Friday..I can let you know when I receive the physical card..

        • Great thanks OP, this would help.

          • +1

@ilovefullprice: Received my card today..1 week from opening.

          • +1

@ilovefullprice: I can confirm it added to Apple Pay once activated.

            • @aussiematthew: Great thanks!

            • @aussiematthew: Hi OP, I got an email saying my account is now setup. I have also downloaded the app. However the email and the app doesn’t explicitly say anywhere that they will be sending the card.

Did you had to specifically call them to request for the card?

              • +1

@ilovefullprice: Mine just automatically arrived..I didn’t request it.
If you log into the app, there is a card management section on the side which should show if a card needs to be activated..that would indicate it’s been ordered.
On the account information page it says a card for access is a benefit, so I assume it’s a standard thing to be sent automatically. I was never given the choice or option. If there’s an activation option in the card management, and an add to Apple Pay option on the card image, then I’d say it’s on its way.

      Apple Pay
Now you can enjoy all the benefits of your People's Choice card with Apple Pay on iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and Mac.

Using Apple Pay is simple and it works with the devices you use every day. Your card information is secure because it isn't stored on your device or shared when you pay.

Paying in stores, apps and on the web has never been easier, safer, or more private.

With Apple Pay you can continue to use your digital wallet even if you’ve lost your physical card. Simply order your new card and activate it in our Mobile Banking App.

    • +1

Yes, can add once physical card is activated.

  • +3

Design, app, service etc are subpar (even their debit card looks worse than woollies reward card). Everything just takes 5 times as long compared to big 3.

    • +2

My ANZ rewards card cant even do anything on the app except see my purchases, everything is locked to the website.
Not sure if trolling that big 3 are better.

      • +5

        ANZ is just a joke

    • Yeah, didn’t there internet banking have an outage for like a week?

  • +1

Free $50,cant say no to that

  • What's the deal with the $2 share at the end?

    • +4

Not a deal. The easiest way to explain; this is not a bank, it's a credit union, meaning that members own the service. Therefore you need to 'buy in'. $2 is noted as a share. You don't need to pay this unless they ask you to provide the buy-in. You're a member, not a customer in this case.
      Unless there was a 'deal' I missed…?

You can still join, take the bonus offer, then close the account at a later stage, or just leave it dormant until a future time if you like. It appears to be a fee-free account. But if you're unsure, best to check and give them a call.

      Hope this helps!

      • +5

If I remember correctly (as a past member), there may be a $20 dormant account fee they might charge , so might want to check on that if you intend on keeping this account unused…

        • Good call! Not sure about the details, I didn't look. Just to try and explain the basis of the $2 to Lancerx.

          @Lancerx - as peterwilliams83 has mentioned…

  • +4

Visa purchase…. Buy $50 gift card via CR/SB during the next promo. Job done.

  • +1

Does this account have a dormant fee?

    • +8

      Dormant Fee
Dormant (inactive fee) $20 per membership
Applies when you do not have any activity on your account(s) or membership, we may charge you a fee at the time we close your inactive Accounts.

      • +1

How many days of inactivity before the account deemed dormant?

        • +1

          12months

        • +1

          5.23 Dormant Accounts
5.23.1 If no transactions are carried out on any of your Account(s) under your membership for
at least 12 months (other than transactions initiated by us, such as crediting interest or
debiting fees and charges) we may write to you asking if you want to keep your
Account(s) and/or membership open. If you do not reply we will treat your Account(s)
as dormant and/or membership as inactive

          • @Poor Ass: Thanks, that will help, I will write myself a reminder.

            • +1

@htc: no prob maybe you can save up to buy that Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV that can do 23XXkm on a fuel tank and battery

              • @Poor Ass: Just googled, it has a very good fuel economy, 1.9L/100km. Do you drive that car? I was thinking about getting a corolla hybrid for about 30k or wait for a few years to get the tesla 2. But currently going to upgrade the car head unit so I could drive for another 5 years, hopefully, electric charging station will be more common and electric cars become more affordable.

                • +1

@htc: nah but it's on my list to buy but have got a few clients have this car and they love it. but eventually long long way away when the battery needs replacing it will cost $12k compared to Toyota hybrid batteries which are $3-4k. With the plug in hybrid for my travels I know I definitely won't need to go to a servo for a few months or just to top up with new fuel.

for now I probably won't go fully electric as it hasn't been fully adapted yet and you know. charging at home would be the go.

I drove the Camry hybrid the other day it. cost me like 4-5L for 100km of travel.

Corolla is alright but I've had too many regular Corollas in the past so no more. Think the Yaris Hybrid will be more fun to drive, looks like a mini 4wd now.

  • +1

Does anyone know if it's difficult to close your account ie. after you receive the $50 and to avoid the dormant fee?

If I have to make multiple calls / fill out mail and post then it's a no from me - painful and laziness on my behalf

    • +1

I had a quick look and could only find forms that needed to be filled in.
Be much better if you could just close the account in the portal or whatever.

      • +1

There is a close account option in the services section of internet banking, not in the app.

    • +3

I closed my membership recently and they require you print out a form and send it in. You can send it through the secure mail within internet banking.

Was worth the time an effort in my case - $4k cashback on a home loan :) I'd rejoin if I could get another $50 out of them (lol) but I'm not sure if I'd be considered a new member…

      • -1

        any dormant fees for closing?

      • Do you think it would be possible to edit the document, fill it in, and send it that way? I don't have any ink in my printer.

  • +1

do we enter any thing in the Promotional code field in step 3?

    • None that I’m aware of.. nothing on the page or t&c.

    • I believe so - yes. 'get $50'. if not, added it anyways when I filled in the application.

    • +3

People’s Choice confirmed today to not enter a promo code, as there isn’t one for this offer
If you meet the requirements of the offer, it will automatically happen.

  • I get an error going through the personal information step

  • I'm part of the way filling in the application and I've come up to a section where there is the option to enter a promotion code. Just wanted to check that you don't need to enter a promo code for the $50 offer? Would someone please confirm so I can keep going through the application process?

    • Not that I’m aware of, there is nothing listed in the terms and conditions.

    • I believe so - yes. 'get $50'. if not, added it anyways when I filled in the application.

    • +2

People’s Choice confirmed today to not enter a promo code, as there isn’t one for this offer
If you meet the requirements of the offer, it will automatically happen.

  • I received an error when submitting the form and now I have to start again… Bit annoying.

    Worked on the second attempt.

    • Second this. Grr

  • free to become a member?

    • +3

$2 share which you don’t need to pay unless they require it at some stage in the future. Basically there is no fee. Usually share fees are refundable if you leave/close your membership in any case.

  • +1

Can it be used to buy online item to get the $50 reward? Or does it have to be in store?

    • +1

Just says “spend a minimum of $50 using Visa or EFTPOS from their new Everyday Living account to qualify for the ‘get $50’ payment from People’s Choice.”

  • So open the bank account and get the money and then close it after received the payment? Is it bad to always open banks and close it ? OR its not a big deal? A lot of banks have some kind of promotion to join. But the question is, is it a big deal to join and close it for a short duration?

    • +2

No law against it. It doesn't show up on your credit file or anything.

  • +4

Got my welcome email this morning.

Nothing about the promo or details in the email, just the usual, how to log in, when the ghosts come, who you should call, and a little about the annual report.
Yet to have a proper read over the email, but don't think there is anything further to it.

Hope this helps anyone else looking to sign up.

    Thanks again OP!

  • There’s a few hidden fees in their PDF like Electronic declines $0.30 per decline and it looks like they could charge $6.50 in account fees.

    • +5

There is no $6.50 account fee. The Everyday account has a $6.50 account fee, not this account, which is the Everyday Living account.
The electronic decline .30 fee is only charged after the first time of getting your PIN wrong or insufficient funds.

      • They charge a fee for getting your PIN wrong?
I've never heard of anyone doing that before

        • +1

Well you have now! You get one chance without a fee.

          • @aussiematthew: Only if you get the PIN wrong the first time for the first transaction, or does it apply to every transaction?

  • +3

Beware. I tried to open an account with People's Choice earlier this year online and they made me go through a process of proving my identity at the post office and interrogated me on why I wanted to open an account. Then they ghosted me. When I finally chased them up they told me that they rejected my membership and couldn't tell me why.

So I went to open an account with a different credit union only to get rejected there because People's Choice had put some sort of fraud alert on me.

I did nothing dodgy and got treated like crap.

    • +2

Wow. Did you tell them you just wanted the $50 to try their service?

    • We’re you ever a member of them previously and closed your membership?

      • No.

        • Sounds like something to do with your credit score or ID. I would’ve chased it to find out why you were rejected and reported it to AFCA to get an answer.

  • +1

Just to make sure, do they perform a credit check? Don't want my credit file to be hit for $50.

    • +2

I’ve never had a credit check done on a bank account application unless I was applying for credit..Maybe contact them to ask if you are concerned.

      • +1

In the terms, it says that they might run by through credit reporting agency, that's why I asked. I agree normally there shouldn't be a credit check but thought I ask those who have applied.

  • +1

How long does it take to process application?

    • I applied online Thursday evening. They called to confirm the next day and opened Friday afternoon. Received my card today..1 week to the day from opening confirmation.

  • +2

finally approved yesterday, no mention of a debit card being sent out in the mail though..

    • How long did the application take?

      • +1

applied on the 11th when the deal was posted

        • thanks, about 4 business days.

  • +1

I was approved the next day. Applied Thursday night, Friday they called me to confirm, opened Friday afternoon (received email). Received card today 1 week to the day after opening.

    • Card comes automatically?

      • It did for me, I didn’t request or ask for it separate to the application.

  • only got my member number today via email. so i guess we all have to wait for the card by snail mail before we can use it. pity it is not a virtual card account as we could use it straight away via nfc. are there any banks in Australia that offer solely virtual visa debit cards?

    • Closest thing is Revolut but they aren't technically a bank.

I haven't even received my People's Choice member number yet, signed up on Mon 12th July. It does say to wait 5 business days though.

  • +2

I applied last Wednesday and still haven't heard anything. Maybe they're getting snowed under from ozBargain

  • +1

How's everyone else gone with this?

I've got everything setup now (as of a few mins ago). Had to call the call centre to get net banking sorted though.
Otherwise. all seems to be working- they accept OSKO so $50 in the account.
    Time to spend.

  • +1

Has any one who has used this offer before and closed the account, signed up again getting the bonus?

  • +3

So far I really like this account. LIke the fact that it is owned by people. Great phone service. They were overwhelmed, and I would hope that people aren't exploiting these smaller banks for $50. It's a bit sad if you are that greedy, they aren't the greedy banks who invest in unsavoury activities.

  • Can the $50 be spent online or has to be at a physical shop? So far process is really quick, already got the card after a week, unlike Citibank has taken 3 weeks and still no sign. App seems great too.

    • yeh im curious too. i was wondering if i could just top up $50 on the opal app and be done with it

    • using Visa or EFTPOS from their new Everyday Living Account

I think online is fine as long as through card.

    • People’s Choice Credit Union advised you need to spend online or in store using a Visa or EFTPOS transaction. I hope that helps.

  • Does a transfer out with Beem It count?
