NordVPN 95% Cashback for New Customers, No Cap, 6PM-11PM @ Cashrewards

Runs for 5 hours from 6pm today. I think this will be the highest cashback ever for Nord :)

Cashback is eligible for new NordVPN customers only.

Cashback may be ineligible if using codes not listed on Cashrewards.

Cashback is calculated and paid on the advertised cost of the plan only. It will not include any GST, taxes, credit card or PayPal surcharges.

The amount that tracks to your Cashrewards account may differ to the paid amount due to international exchange rates. Your initial payment is converted to USD, then converted back to AUD when reported to us. The advertised cashback rate is based on the reported amount, not the paid amount. Cashrewards has no control over this process.

Thanks OP. Does anyone know how this compares to Surfshark for normal usage (browsing, streaming etc?).

    • I'm curious about this too, as well as how the tools compare - browser extensions and android app. Haven't been impressed with the functionality of Surfshark's.

    • +1

I've used Surfshark for around two years and have no issues with it. I've heard decent things about NordVPN too, so it wouldn't be an issue.

    • +5

Never used Surfshark but can confirm Nord is a quality product for streaming and general browsing

    • +4

Do you have a android phone?

If so, a free trial for Nord can be accessed from the play store. This allows you to test the VPN yourself, and will be better indicator of how the VPN will perform for you than an opinion.

Else, I recommended reading the following:

VPN Detailed Compare by that one privacy guy

Which VPN Takes Your privacy Seriously? By torrent freak

VPN Ratings by some random redditor'

      • There were comments in prior deal about privacy issue and data breach with Nord. Also how they were secretly tracking users IP.

    • I have both for geo unlocking TV. Both work well for different apps. Nord for UK BBC but Surfshark for UK ITV. It varies from one to the other for Netflix regions. I will get them both again in a year or two when they run out. I will wait for deals on here though.

  • +1

Sorry bloke…. but is that 6 to 11pm in Nannup or Rubyvale or Ivy tanks?

  • What are the main reasons people use a VPN like this? Is it just access to cheaper overseas Netflix, avoiding Australian government spying and metadata tracking, running a backyard drug cartel or something else?

    • +1

You pretty much answered it. Check out Tom Scott’s video on VPN though. TL;DR: VPNs MAY not be as great as they are advertised. That said, I still use one

    • +3

      GeorgeBrandis_libs4life has entered the chat

      • Alas, I could only upvote you once.

    • +2

Their main benefit is viewing overseas content. They're also good when you're using unsecure networks or networks you don't trust. Also good for torrenting because it can hide your activity from your ISP. They're generally pretty overrated when it comes to protecting your privacy, so if you're running a drug cartel, a VPN is not really going to do all that much for you. But those 3 benefits make it worth using one every now and then.

      • +1

Is your speed or ping performance compromised at all?

        • Yeah a little bit. It's not unusable though. I don't use Nord but I have in the past and it was good enough

      • +3

What should one use if he runs drug cartel? Asking for a friend

        • TorGuard's meant to be one of the most secure VPNs, or so I hear. Encrypted messengers, Tor network, are all privacy focused. Check out r/degoogle on Reddit

          • @reloxation: You’d want a VPN even accessing tors VPN…

            Majority are compromised anyhow…

Most pgp encryption can also be cracked in a very short time frame…

So unless you’re google, Amazon, ect. Expect to have no privacy…

        • +7

Use an app called ANOM for drug trafficking, it's like fb messenger but encrypted.

    • Mainly torrenting, as I know some ISPs block torrent sites (such as tangerine who I'm with now), also comes handy for geo blocked sites for example right now I can watch olympic highlights on youtube using a USA server.

      • +4

Pretty sure changing your dns to google ( , or another alternative gets around the government enforced 'blocks' of torrent sites.

      • +1

You can usually just change your DNS server (ie. to access blocked sites.

Edit: CheapoJohnno beat me to it :D

      • I use Tangerine, but use CloudFlare DNS, haven't got blocked from any torrent sites 😅

    • I like to have some of my browsing and internet usage hidden if possible. I don't use it to avoid geo-blocks of any kind

  • +6

Is it easy to set up? $5 for 27 months too hard to pass up

    • +1

Yes. It's an app and super simple to use on computer and phone. You can use up to 5 devices from memory…

    • +1

Another plus vote for NordVPN, I've used them for the past few years and been happy with service and ease of use (got an 80% off sale that comes up pretty often)

      • Yup I got it, $14 for 27 months is too good to pass up. Although I primarily stream from TV so I don't think I can get it to work from there 😣

  • Actually does it only cover the first bill? Can you pay the whole amount in one?

    • You should be able to buy yearly deals.

  • Wireguard?

  • +2

My previous subscription with Nord expired three days ago. Would I be considered a new customer now?

    • +3

Create a new account and you'll be a new customer 😉

      • Can the same cashrewards account claim this twice (once from a few years ago, and now this?)

        • I think your email had to be the same as for the cashrewards account?

          • @gonzule: I dont think so. I got the cashback one year ago through cashrewards, which used an email different to the email used for the nordvpn account.

        • Shouldn't be a challenge as Both are different accounts.

  • If you have existing Nord VPN will this add on to the end of your existing plan or will it start a brand new time period on sign up?

    • +1

This is for new customers only so you will need to make a new account to get this deal.

  • To people who have NordVPN,

    Can you stream US Netflix?

    Thanks in advance :)

    • +1

Quite spasmodic, only works around 20% of time.

    • +2

Last time i tried (about 2months ago) Netflix recognised the vpn, same as Prime. They ask you to remove it to continue.

    • +1

      Better look into dns services

    • +5

Yes, all you have to do is use the VPN and sign in as a different user profile to the one you were already signed in as before turning on the VPN. That way Netflix won't block you out when it sees you're logging in from Australia one second, France the other and then the US! So don't fully log out just sign in as a different user profile and it will refresh to the Country.

      • +1

Just tested out and seems to work. Nice one :)

    • +1

Getflix works for US Netflix, can even get it on my Samsung TV once I set the dns

      • How about Disney plus hotstar? Would it be blocked as well?

        • Not too sure as I don't have it, but I would think if it works for Netflix it should work for all. They have a 14 day free trial, you can test it there. Pretty easy to set up, I'm quite noob and I managed to do it.

I tried looking up if I could configure nord on my TV like my Getflix but couldn't figure it out.

        • Hotstar detects Surfshark when I run the app on my tv. However, when running Hotstar through my browser, it goes through easily. The speed is sometimes slow and thus video buffers.
          No experience on Nord though.

  • How long does it take to receive the cash back?

    • Cash rewards site says up to 95 days

  • 6pm where ?

    • +8

      Covid-land time I suspect.

  • Considering getting a refund on my nordvpn subscription I did with shopback on the 10th and getting this one instead .. would it be worth the hassle? A bit weary of shopback after what I've heard on here.

    • +1

I never got any cashback from Shopback. All transactions are pending including referrals when I was sure I satisfied the requirements (referred my wife). Unfortunately, it's only recently that I have been aware of the data leak. I since then de activated both accounts - mine's and the wife. They can keep whatever is left there. Just not worth it.

Cashrewards, on the other hand, has been very good ever since I opened an account more than 4 years ago.

  • -2

Will the cashback work if the payment is made with a crypto currency?

  • +1

I use Nord to stream Netflix JP and often get blocked out once every couple of hours, a refresh usually fixes this or changing servers, so quite annoying.
This never happened to me on Windscribe… something to consider if you solely use a VPN to watch Netflix, I’m curious what you guys experience are like?

  • +1

Can someone help educate me in understanding how these cash reward type of businesses work and make profit?

Or what nord would be getting out of doing this type of deal?

    • +1

Many online businesses operate an affiliate marketing system. Basically means they pay a commission to anyone who sends traffic, that does what they want, through their tracking link. What they want might be buying something or it could be entering an email or whatever.

Often these are open to anyone to use, such as in the case of Nord for example, where you can be an affiliate for them by filling out a form. Other businesses have higher barrier to be an affiliate though.

Businesses like Cashrewards are affiliates. They pay for traffic by paying the people who click their tracking link a part of the commission from the sale. Actually most of the commission in many cases.

  • Seems netflix is all over nord. anyone successful with streaming US netflix with any other vpn providers? shark or express?

    • I've been streaming Netflix US without any problems using Nordvpn Android TV app.

  • Shame how there's no single "best" VPN out there even if you're prepared to pay more for better speeds and reliability. Even the big-name ones like Nord, Surfshark, Express, PIA etc. still seem to suffer from bad lag and dropouts when trying to stream geoblocked live TV (not on-demand services like Netflix) even with NBN speeds of 250 or 1000…

    • Have had windscribe for 3 years and really rate them.

  • +1

I grabbed the PIA 3yr 100 per cent cashback deal a couple of days ago so will pass on this but good deals at the moment on VPNs.

I’ll guess I’ll save using another ‘first time customer snd big cashback’ VPN deal for three years time when my PIA subby expires.

  • +1

I recommend PIA or IP Vanish over Nord for transfer speed.

    • Oh damn… I already find PIA to be slow

    • Agreed. PIA is faster than Nord.

  • no cap?

  • Noob question: Will a VPN work if someone is overseas and needs to do internet banking with an Australian bank?

    • Don't see why not but not sure I would want to do Banking via a VPN. Regardless, one can still access Australian Banks from Overseas so not sure the need (unless using Public Internet i.e. Internet Cafes WiFi etc).

  • Anyone know if the VPN will work for Spotify? I’ve used a free one before to get a cheaper Netflix but I wanted to try for Spotify.

  • Make sure your click registers because mine didn't and they refused to honour it earlier in the year.

  • +3

NordVPN currently has a sale on the 2 year plan. Does this cashback work for the sale price ?

    • Would be pretty silly if it doesn't since their start time coincided with the sale. But if it doesn't then there's still the 30 day money back guarantee to refund on?

    • +1

      Yes, Sale price is fine.
CR Conditions: Cashback is calculated and paid on the "advertised cost" of the plan only.
So whatever is showing is fine, just don't use any Coupons to try discount further.

  • +1

Personally, I use ProtonVPN because it offers a basic free tier membership that is adequate for my purposes, not to mention suitable for my budget (or lack thereof), plus it's made by the same people who brought us ProtonMail, therefore I know it's being provided by a trustworthy company with a proven track record of protecting user privacy.

    • Genuine question: Do you find the free version any good. I tested ProtonVPN many times over the last few years and as recent as 2 months ago. Was fine in Trial mode but Free version was awful and very few servers to connect to. The ones that where available were really really slow. Seems like a no brainer to grab (which I did but at only 90% off) NordVPN full version. At 95% off is close to free! It works very well and a bucket load of Servers globally.

    • -2

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but I would personally steer clear of proton.

A data mining company owns all of proton, with almost no oversight.

I'd rather google that at least tries to aggregate it, rather than those cowboys.

      • +1

Does this even matter? ProtonMail uses a combination of public-key cryptography and symmetric encryption protocols to offer end-to-end encryption. When a user creates a ProtonMail account, their browser generates a pair of public and private RSA keys:

        • The public key is used to encrypt the user's emails and other user data.
        • The private key capable of decrypting the user's data is symmetrically encrypted with the user's mailbox password.
        • This symmetrical encryption happens in the user's web browser using AES-256. Upon account registration, the user is asked to provide a login password for their account.

ProtonMail also offers users an option to log in with a two-password mode which requires a login password and a mailbox password.

        • The login password is used for authentication.
        • The mailbox password encrypts the user's mailbox that contains received emails, contacts, and user information as well as a private encryption key.
        • Upon logging in, the user has to provide both passwords. This is to access the account and the encrypted mailbox and its private encryption key. The decryption takes place client-side either in a web browser or in one of the apps. The public key and the encrypted private key are both stored on ProtonMail servers. Thus ProtonMail stores decryption keys only in their encrypted form so ProtonMail developers are unable to retrieve user emails or reset user mailbox passwords. This system absolves ProtonMail from:

        • Storing either the unencrypted data or the mailbox password.

        • Divulging the contents of past emails but not future emails.
        • Decrypting the mailbox if requested or compelled by a court order.
        • ProtonMail exclusively supports HTTPS and uses TLS with ephemeral key exchange to encrypt all Internet traffic between users and ProtonMail servers. Their 4096-bit RSA SSL certificate is signed by QuoVadis Trustlink Schweiz AG and supports Extended Validation, Certificate Transparency, Public Key Pinning, and Strict Transport Security. Protonmail.com holds an "A+" rating from Qualys SSL Labs.

In September 2015, ProtonMail added native support to their web interface and mobile app for PGP. This allows a user to export their ProtonMail PGP-encoded public key to others outside of ProtonMail, enabling them to use the key for email encryption. The ProtonMail team plans to support PGP encryption from ProtonMail to outside users.

Now if you could elaborate to me how this isn't secure or private enough, I'm all ears.

  • If I use the summer deal will I be excluded from cash back?

  • Clicking through cashrewards has added a coupon code automatically, is it expected? The code is not listed on CR site, would it invalidate the cash back?

  • +2

thanks OP, went for the 2 year plan….first time for me to sign up for a VPN longer than a couple of months…

  • Dont forget there will be gst on top im not sure if you pay via another currency will be tracked by cw.

  • Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm signed in but the link from Cashrewards doesn't work for me. It keeps giving me dns failure & doesn't take me to nord. I've tried Chrome & edge, cleared cache & rebooted but nothing seems to work. Anyone else having this issue?

    • Check If you have VPN enabled or use the CR mobile app :)

  • Is the price on the website in AUD? say the 12 month one is 59+5.9 = 64.9 AUD and I will be charged on my card that amount or there is some conversion shenanigan later on like my card will charge me USD instead.

    • +1

prices on the site appear to be in usd, I believe they charge you in AUD though as it charged me $125aud for the 2year+3month deal (after GST and before cashback).

  • I just signed up but I can’t for the life of me remember if they asked me to set a password upon signup. But I’m able to login using my regular. Could I have perhaps already signed up before without realising? Panicking that I may not be eligible for the cashback

    • either way, it says on their front page they have a one month money back guarantee so you should be able cancel for free easily!

    • Same happened to me, used a different email to sign up and it never asked me to make a password then it asked me to sign in using one, I just used a login code sent to my email to get in, then set one.

Update: Mine just tracked so you should be fine.

  • +1

Grabbed the 2 year deal, can’t go wrong with the price and wanted to fiddle around with a VPN for awhile now. Already got US Netflix working so that’s sweet. No luck with Disney+ yet, they were onto me. Prime loaded normally but not familiar enough with the library to know if it was any different at this stage.

My only concern is that usually with Cashrewards my purchases track almost instantly, but no recognition of the purchase yet. Oh well they do so up to 7 days :)
    Edit: tracked!

  • Can anyone confirm if cashback tracks if you select a country without a sales tax?

    • Also interested to know this

    • Yeah, should still track. I bought mine listing another country that does not have gst added on and have received a cashback tracking of expecting $111.3 back. Just checked my bank account and shows that $113.92. I have used Bankwest bank without any foreign fees.

  • ordered at ~6:30 and payment has tracked. Have $111 in rewards pending from a $125 purchase.
