I'm playing Demon's Souls now and loving it. I'm not finding it nearly as hard as I remember it being on PS3. It may be that my memories are a bit coloured by time and I remember it being harder than it was, or maybe the much smoother, constant 60fps on PS5 makes the combat a bit easier, or it may be because I've gone with basically a pure mage build which is a bit overpowered to the extent that I've been able to kill some of the bosses with 1-2 hits.

Don't get me wrong, it's not an easy game compared to most, but nor is it as savagely difficult as its reputation may lead people to believe. I wouldn't let that put anybody off trying it on PS5.

I'll definitely get Returnal at some point, too, because I love all of Housemarque's games. But no point paying the very high price for it now while I've got my hands full with Demon's Souls as well as several PS4 games that I haven't finished (or even started!) yet, so I'll wait for a sale on that one.

      Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
      Brilliant game!

    • +1

Depends what you like to play. You get the PS4 collection games when you buy a PS5, which is heaps of quality games to get through if you havent played them. In terms of PS5 exclusives:
Demon Souls - souls like game thats hard. You either like these or you don't.
Returnal - a difficult rouge-like shooter that is demon souls levels of difficulty. Personally I love it, but still haven't finished it.
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart - Like playing a Pixar movie. Looks INCREDIBLE. Most people will enjoy this.
Spider Man Miles Morales - A great looking game with ray tracing. Accused of being an expansion rather than a full game its pretty good IMHO. A bit of a collectathon but the combat and web swinging is satisfying.
Death Loop - Coming out in the next few months and is the next exclusive. Looks to be a Rogue-Like shooter. Wait and see what the reviews say for this one is my advice.

Keep in mind, the EB series X orders last week which said October 15th have started going out already. I got mine yesterday.

    • +5

Don't get my hopes up like that

    • My last ps5 pre order took over 3 months and 1 month from the agreed ETA. Probably better to set your expectations to worst case.

      • Hopefully just in time for Christmas….

      • I ordered mine on 15 May for delivery by end of July. It arrived 13 July, so well within the ETA.

  • Does anyone know if you can pay the remaining balance using gift cards?

    • +1

      of course

      • Thanks! Was worried when they only mentioned cash, card or trade in.

        • +7

I even got them to refund my $200 deposit to card and paid the whole $750 amount on gift card.

          • +6

            @cc23: OzBargain trophy unlocked

          • @cc23: Was it one gift card or across several?

            • @Ebaygiftcards: Would also like confirmation of this. I just called and they said the initial $200 deposit can't be refunded but the remaining balance can be paid in full with gift cards.

      • Be careful as the website says ‘Only 1 Gift Card can only be used at the time of purchase’.

        • Purchased switch last year by pre-order, no issues by paying around 4 gift cards when collecting.

  • +1

I had to turn off my add blocker to order is anyone else is having the same issues.
    Best of luck

  • +16

This surely holds the record for the longest 'in stock' time from posting.

    • +2

      Unlimited stock is scalpers nightmare

      • That or just people getting wise and refusing to buy from the ****s, leaving them holding a few thousand dollars worth of PS5s they can't shift until they start selling them at a loss.

Sadly neither of those things seems likely to happen any time soon.

  • -8

yeah my PS5 gets delievered today from Big W.

But good luck to people going to pysical stores and getting delta. I will take delievery over any thing else in these times. its not worth risking health for a PS5, if you can get delievered that is your best option.

    • +1

      Laughs in Queenslander

      • +1

Can't hear you over your mask, freshly out of lockdown ;-)

      • Laughs at NSW for incompetence

    • +3

So do you go to Coles and Woolworths and not get delta?

Enjoy living in your house for the rest of your life.

      • You can get coles/woolies to deliver FYI.

    • +1

I was lucky my PS5 arrived in July exactly 1 week before we went into lockdown, so at least I had something to keep me entertained!

We were very lucky here in Adelaide, though - our hard lockdown only lasted a week.

    • Delivery guy may have the vid of course.

    • -1

      pysical
      delievery
      delievered

  • +1

Just pulled the trigger on this! My wife wants it more than me tbh, so we can play online co-op together, haha.

  • -2

I feel like there's nothing which makes me want a PS5 just yet over my XSX… so will keep holding out for it to (one day) drop in price or get launched as a slim/smaller version!

    • +2

PS exclusives mainly, the reason I didn't get an XSX is because I had a PC to play all the games on XB anyway.

      • Other than Ratchet and Clank which looks fun, nothing has screamed out at me yet as a must have… maybe I'll just wait until Gran Turismo or next instalments of FF7 come out.

        • +1

I played TLOU2, GOT, Days Gone, Bloodbourne, loads of game time in them. I never liked GT, too arcadey for me ;-)

    • +1

I have both now, but I have had playstation for years the Xbos series X I also have now is my first xbox. or though I do like 1440p at 120fps and game pass, I find I would rather play these games on my PC because its like leaps and bounds way better, raytracing on either of these consoles of laughable compared to a good PC with a good graphics card. But you have to put it down to ecosystem. Where are you friends playing and go to that platform. The other thing is VR is on the ps5 and nothing on the xbox but we won't go into a VR discussion lol. I prefer the ps5 over the xbox mainly because I have a PC and PS5 has exclusive titles you can't get on PC. So I am happy to take the hit on the 1080p 120fps. SSD wise or those its easy to insert into an xbox, its still better on the PS5 because its standard PC parts not proprietary like on the xbox, most xbox people don't like spend any money on anything so its most likely not many people will buy those ssds on xbox. Other than that at the end of the day its up to the individual.

  • Thanks, friend managed to get one! Can't wait to borrow it

  • Ordered, lets see what happens. Thanks OP.

  • So if we get an email about the order, is it confirmed?

  • It won't let me buy one for some reason- "Something went wrong, please contact Customer Service on 13 39 30."

    • +2

Same Situation, but I process as a guest, it works

    • +1

Oherwise, I change a computer, my girlfriends process with it, it worked, dunno why

    • +1

      Clear the ad blocker

  • +1

Thanks OP. This is the first time anything related to PS5 console work for me.

  • +3

thanks bought one for my dog

  • +1

    Good one

  • Didn't get any confirmation email but been charged…

    • +1

      got mine 5 min after

  • Thank you, pre-ordered and will sell my digital version when this turns up.

  • +2

Thanks OP, didn't need one, but saw 100+ upvotes and got one. Last console I owned is a N64, any recommendations on what I need? Where is it best to get a 2nd controller from (amazon)?

    • +1

Anything that's not an N64 is considered a step down.

But yeah, hold out for a second controller as they seem to regularly go on sale. You'll eventually need a 4K TV if you don't already have one. I'll be using a 4K monitor I picked up in a recent Dell deal.

  • +1

Thanks OP, can't believe ordered one!
I was never in the market to get this or XBox but my wife wanted to get one for father's day.
Still have PS3 and do not have time to even look at it, time to sell all PS3 stuff for nothing now :)

  • +1

    Ordered, thanks OP!

  • +1

    Thank you OP.

    I just pre-ordered mine.

  • +1

    Got x3 ps3.
    Skip ps4
Have to get ps5 for ff7 remake.

Now i can laugh at those fb ps5 selling for $850+

  • +1

    Thanks OP, pre-ordered because yolo

  • Anyone else getting error?

  • +4

Anyone know the trade in value for an original PS4 500gb console?

  • Gonna hold off this one - would only be playing FF7 on hard mode + FF7 Append on it atm anyway. Not to mention the tons of unplayed Steam games. Can only hope that supply issues clear up in reasonable time and prices don't stay inflated like they have with the Switch.

    • Yeah. I want one due to FOMO, and typically I own all the consoles at some point. However there's no games I want to play on PS5 yet.

    • +1

As a PC gamer i'm with you with waiting but FOMO is hard to shake off.

I only want a PS5 to play Last of Us (and FF7), but i hear its' been remade in line to release with the HBO seriesm but that's still unconfirmed. I don't know whether to wait for that or bite the bullet now as the "hits" versions are really cheap.

  • +2

Don't forget to pay by discounted gift cards. Suncorp has 6% off and Rewards Gateway has 8% off.

    • +1

      nice!

      • How many gift cards can actually be used per transaction? The FAQs on the website says 1

    • I am a total noob to gift cards, could you share some more insight?

      • +1

Depends which platform you have access to but some websites sell gift cards at discounted value e.g. Suncorp has rewards program, AGL Rewards, AAMI rewards, some employers provide access to Rewards Gateway etc - lots of different places to access from but some might have different discount rates. I purchased a $200 eb games giftcard for 8% off - so $200 value but paying $184 from my credit card. Received the e-giftcard immediately after purchase so used it as payment in the checkout window (found in payment options). Hope that helps.

        • How can I buy the gift card you bought? I think it's a great idea. Thanks

          • @sqheaven: You will need to have insurance or related products from Suncorp/AAMI

        • Thank you! Will save 6% on eb games GCs

          • @ben10k: I have AAMI insurance for a car LOL Do I buy the gift cards now or later? I do see option, EB at 6%.

            • @sqheaven: Sorry to bring this up again, do I buy now or maybe at the time of pickup?

              • @sqheaven: I bought $200 to pay the deposit immediately. I usually buy right on the spot before go to checkout (both online and instore) as they are instantly delivered and usually only buy what i need to pay for it if I can as I don't like accruing too many unused GCs. My exception are places I know I will also go back to shop frequently e.g. Coles, Woolies, Target etc. I will buy GCs for the remaining amount just before I go instore to pick up.

  • +1

Wanna play ff7 and Xuanyuanjian but all the stocks are in shortage. Thanks OP! preordered.

  • +1

    RIP Scalpers :D

    • Or RIP ourselves if they cancel all of these orders. Dont think they're gonna get this much stock.

  • +1

a desktop GPU with similar performance to this costs the same.. THATS SAD

    • This is subsidised whereas Nvidia wants additional profits

    • +2

I am pretty sure that Sony is selling these below cost or as close to cost as possible. Whilst GPUs obviously will focus on selling them at a profit.

      • +2

Sony reports this as profit it's in the financials.

        • +1

Correct but only recently from June onwards (at least for disc version)

Sony confirmed in an earnings report that the standard edition of the PlayStation 5 would break even and start making a profit in June, roughly eight months after the console's launch.

          https://screenrant.com/ps5-sales-profit-sony-break-even-june…

So I assume they were making a loss up until that point (at least for disc version)

  • +1

    Thanks OP, ordered :)

  • -3

Do I have to update the TV as well? LOL you know when I bought my TV in 2018, it said, PS4 might break the TV. It's an LG UHD, absolutely hated my first LG purchase, but, they fixed a fault for free, graceful warranty. So, kudos to LG.

    • +1

Seems unlikely. Just about anything with a HDMI input should be able to output a PS5

    • +1

Don't have to, but some features might not be available if your TV doesn't support it eg stuff requiring HDMI 2.1… I think that includes stuff like 120hz refresh rate at 4K resolution. But if you don't have HDMI 2.1 it's hardly a deal breaker.

This is my TV, I was so surprised that it was mentioned to me that PS4 game might break it and it will not be covered under warranty, I was able to play for all these years though :D

        I don't think it has HDMI 2.1

        • HDMI 2.0a

          • @sqheaven: Most likely they were referring to image burn-in from static images like HUD in games etc. The older NanoCell apparently had those issues but have improved over the years.

        • Yeah I think HDMI 2.1 TVs only started coming out in maybe 2020? Maybe a few in 2019? I bought one at the start of 2019 (2018 model) that is also only HDMI 2.0. PS4 wouldn't have cared - even the PS4 Pro was pre-HDMI 2.1, so wouldn't have used any of the 2.1 features even if your TV had supported it. As for the other way round, I can't imagine how your console could break your TV. There used to be screen burn in images with gaming on HDTVs, especially with plasma TVs, but I don't think that's nearly as much of an issue with more modern TVs.

          • @AngusD: So I think a new TV is due with HDMI2.1. I don't like the edge lighting, back then I never knew about it. I'd probably go for an OLED this time. thanks though
