Many thanks for this nugget of wisdom. I have more credit checks from Optus (3) than I do from Klarna (1) - and I only bought one iPad from a deal in 2019 from Optus. What a stinger!

FYI - just tried stacking a Kogan gift card with the Klarna deal and it won't let you use a gift card with Klarna but it will with afterpay doggggs

Looks like they've learned from the PCCG promo to cap the amount to $100.

  • Can someone help me determine if this makes the 8th gen ipad 32GB a good deal? Need to upgrade our current ipad

Totally new to BNPL so thought I'd check.
Do we just order and select Klarna as the payment and complete the purchase?
Is there sign up with Klarna required?
    Thanks

    • Yes, but you can complete the sign up process when you select Klarna at the checkout

Need to have proof of identity (DL, Medicare)

      • +1

I made the purchase and Klarna only asked for my phone and email.
        Is this normal?

        • Not sure why they didnt ask for ID as they do credit check.
Maybe you had already created an account with them before or you signed up via bank or a platform that already had your id
(I know someone created a Klarna account via Comm Bank app and they just asked for mobile and email - you could be in the same situation)

As long as the transaction went through, you should be good.

Just in case, check your Klarna profile and settings to make sure the information Klarna have is accurate

  • Is this valid to ANY purchased on Kogan, seem to be getting a "Klarna is not available for this purchase"??? Worried they did credit check on attempting to purchase

    • +1

Jj456 had the same issue (refer to earlier comments). Seems that was caused by Klarna's automated decision making algorithm.

You might try raising this with Klarna via chat to see if it can be resolved, but dont think they can override that decision

      • If i retry, will that perform another credit check and -credit score? New to all this and credit scoring

EDIT: Retried, similarly denied. wtf is this BNPL app

        • Not sure to be honest. Someone mentioned that Klarna had no impact on their credit score even after making multiple purchases as Klarna just performs a "soft" checks

Whereas some have said that they got rejected at the account creation stage itself and had an impact on their credit report.

Since your account seems to be "flagged" the best option would be to contact Klarna and see what's going on and resolve it from their end

One thing you can try is going to Kogan via Klarna (Cashrewards/ Shopback method) and see if that works

          Good luck

          • @Abadabba: Right, I am guessing they are trying to prevent large discounts for new comers by having a lower limit.

A very big dislike of this app is they do not specify the spending limit you have. Very shit of them to bait this

            • @iwantaphone: Sorry to hear it dint work the way it should.
Someone on a different post mentioned the website tells you the spending limit, I havent checked/ verified that yet.

I think only having a chat with Klarna to see if its their system or something else will answer your original question

              • @Abadabba: The support agent/chatbot(i suspect) just kept regurgitating "the system has decided/try spending less", but the item itself cost $350. I asked if i can find out the hard limit but they said we are unable to get that figure.

The agent does not have any other scripted answer for that i guess.

                • @iwantaphone: Yeah, seems with Klarna its a bit of a hit or miss when it comes to their automated decisions.
Hopefully with time they can improve if they really want to compete with Afterpay and Zip

Their system is stupid and no wonder they are so generous as they anticipate many transactions will just not go through.

My Klarna was approve when they join force with CBA, fully verified just never used. So when this issue come up yesterday, I call then and they say nothing they can do and don't even care when I told them to cancel my account.

Now I have send email out to my work to tell everyone to get out of this useless POS. Do a promotion and use the system to stop people getting it is the worse kind of scam!!

      • i did cba too and only used it for first time . i dont think they do a credit check on you when signing up. they only do it when you try to make purchases as per their t/c's. just obtain your free file via illion and check the enquires made by klarna there.

        • illion show they make an enquiry only when I tried ti put that Kogan order through.

My score is in the 700+ range so if they don't let that order through, that mean they are systematically rejecting large orders. SCAM!!

BTW which credit report should I look at apart from Illion? Seems incomplete to me.

          • @syswong: Three main credit reporting bodies in Australia: Equifax, illion and Experian. let us know if you see Klarna entries in any others apart from Illion.? surprised they rejected you with a 700+ score at illion mine is only good at mid 500 but no missed payments and 22+ entries.

          • @syswong: My credit score dropped after I used Klarna with this offer.
It was 810 and dropped to 779.

Does anyone know what happened ? My credit report from Illion says that the enquiry from Klarna is a "Loan Contract"

            Its BS.

            • @veyron: Illion is total BS. They have the lowest score (by far) for me out of the 3 agencies.

              • @TomGum: I saw my score in Credit Savvy, it was showing 810 for the past 5 months until I used Klarna and it dropped to 779 .

Nothing has changed . So I pulled out a report from Illion.

  • Curious to know how many people ordered multiple times…
    Made a poll
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/644150
    :)

  • 130gb mobile plan for $105.

Wouldn't let me order a 2nd one though.

  • "Hey ! Your 3rd instalment is now paid. No interest, no fuss. Your last payment will be automatically collected according to the plan below.

    Next payment on September 22."

I thought my last instalment was waived, anyone received their 3rd instalment notice and had the same wording?

    • That's the automated email
Just contact Klarna support through app and let them know that you haven't received confirmation about the final instalment being waived off.

Same thing happened with me, sometimes they have to manually write-off the final instalments

      Cheers

      • Thanks for the advice!

      • I have both the final installment being waived email from when I made the purchase and the final amount still being owed.
