Excellent deal on this bundle, didn't think we'd see it cheaper than the promo price before it expired.

        • I bought 3, I'm just going to sell 2 on fb marketplace. Over $50 is already profit for me technically as I need Netflix credit anyway

  • I have a Netflix account set up on an apple tv if I buy this can I just use the voucher/offer with an existing Netflix account and return the Device ?

  • Can Google tv not be used with an existing Chromecast one may have?

  • +2

The FAQ doesn't cover return/refund processes. Any idea what's involved and out of pocket costs (i.e. postage)?

  • I kinda stuck in a decision.

Given a choice of this deal or $60 firestick 4k brand new, which one would you guys recommend? I don't need another Netflix sub.

    • I would say this one, as it’s more “open” and you can also chrome cast to it. I think the fire stick has something similar (screening) but I haven’t tried it. Chrome cast is brilliant imo.

  • Can someone please clarify my question:

Product page says it comes with 6 months of 2 screen Netflix subscription (worth $95.94).

I already have Netflix subscription for 4 screens. If I buy this promotion, do I get 6 months of subscription for 2 screens or Netflix credit of $95.94. If it's later, can I use that credit towards my current 4 screen subscription?

    • +3

$95 of credit , applicable to whatever level Netflix plan you want.

      • Thanks mate. Do you know how that's paid? through Netflix giftcard?
If so, can I use that $95.94 credit towards my existing Netflix subscription of 4 screens?

        • +1

Yes, you just add the credit code in payment page and it will use it first instead of cards

  • “To redeem the Netflix offer, customers must set up an eligible Chromecast with Google TV device and follow the instructions to apply the offer value to a Netflix account by 1 March 2022.”

What does it mean by google TV device?
How do I get the Netflix credit voucher?

    • You need to power up, and setup the Chromecast before the promo code is valid/available

  • Would the credit work with US netflix account or just AU?

    • just AU?

though no idea why, if you were going to have a non AU netflix account, you would choose US the billing location

  • Very tempting

  • +1

I guess the credit wouldn't work if you're paying Netflix through Turkish monthly discount method?

    • +3

Asked many time, no it won’t. It works only with Australian account. So if you are willing to cancel and then restart in 6 months you can, but imo not worth it. You could risk loosing that account, hence personally bought the one with no credit.

      • I thought so, If you don't need chromecast then it's probably cheaper to use vpn and get netflix for $7/month.
        vpn for 6 months = $7 x 6 = $42
        chromecast + 6 months netflix = $118.99
which means you'd be paying $76.99 for the chromecast

        • Yes but if you buy without the credit you pay about $84 (use the code from Google that give you 15% off). Too much hassle imo to save $7-8

  • Do I need to already have a Netflix account before I start setting up the chromecast? Or can the Netflix account be set up later and apply this credit from this offer?

    • +1

I think it can be any account, as long as within the expiry date (I think it’s March 2022)

  • Does anyone know if the chromecast I get from this will work if I use it overseas?

  • Anyone know if the twin pack has two sets of Netflix credit, or 1.

    https://store.google.com/au/product/double_entertainment_pac…

Its $219.99, $19 cheaper than buying the 1 pack with Netflix.

    • +3

Only one, they just add one more Chromecast into the bundle but no extra Netflix.

      • dang, thanks for confirming. glad I didn't pull the trigger.

    • +3

Two chromecasts, one netflix, one cup

  • Thanks for the help everyone.

Ended up ordering just the one.

Funny story though, my cheap Pixel 2XL from Telstra is the gift that keeps giving.
Google had given me a $65 store credit 2 years ago because of their delay helping me with a warranty issue. (got sorted in the end).
Their store credit only has 1 year validity, but they re-enabled it for me over chat, when I mentioned ACL. (even though it probably doesn't apply to free credit)

  • good deal, got mine last year for $135

  • How do you pay via credit card without going to Google pay? I wanted to use my Amex offer. I can only see Add credit card to Google pay.

    • +1

Add new credit card at checkout, then delete after.

      • +2

        Thank you. It worked.
So to be clear for others. On check out screen, I added a new credit card (In my case, I added visa credit card). Don't confirm purchase yet. Open another Google page where you can delete the credit card you entered (this is found under your google account -> Payment methods).

Go back to your other screen and check out again (click cart again). You will see there is no credit card but it will require you to add credit card to Google pay again. This time put your Amex card details. Click purchase. You should get the AMEX email promo.

        • Why does this not work for me? It's still getting charged as a Google Play payment

          • @JWL: Ok, One thing different I did was, initially my Google pay had Amex card registered and when I paid and cancelled, I lost the option of buying two Google TV with netflix. I can only buy one quantity only.

So I used my wifes Google account. She didn't have my Amex registered yet with her google pay. I did the steps above as explained. It went through fine as Google Store. I am thinking now maybe it is because she never used that card. I read an earlier tread saying they deleted their Amex card from Google Pay. I assume you didn't have Amex registered in Google Pay but you might have used Amex with Google pay to purchase something before?

            • @naira: I've tried making a new account and adding that too but it still came up as Google Play. Worked on the 3rd time but now I've received an email saying that my order was cancelled from Google but the Amex email came through…

              • @JWL: it would mean, Amex will not pay you the promo as the transaction was cancelled. I wonder why google cancelled that.

                • @naira: Guess we'll just have to wait and see…

  • Is it free to return? Via post assuming?

  • Can you sell the Netflix Credit to someone else?

    • Some comment previously said, the Netflix credit is tied to the device (Google TV). So maybe it is possible to sell to someone close to you by getting them to setup the google tv under their account so the credit gets loaded in their account.

      • I would assume once you set it up that they just email you the code for the credit and you can activate it on whatever Netflix account. My google email isn't my Netflix email and I would think a lot of other people's aren't as well.

  • What is the return policy? And does it need to be unopened?

  • Did you have to use the 6 Months of Netflix continuously?

  • Is anyone getting out of stock? , so if I don't sign it its shows white in stock, as soon as I sign in shows OOS for all colors?

    • White still available for me.

      • is that the same after you signed in with your Google account?

        • +1

I am always signed in. only white is available

          • +1

@naira: sigh guess something to do with my account, guess its tech support time
            what i see

  • -4

I will pay them more if the keep the unwatchable woke netflix.

  • whats the $25 google credit for? I got a pixel 5 recently and google one but not sure what its for

meaning where can i find it

    • Mine was in my email from a promo in May 2021. Surprised it still worked. Search for: [email protected]

  • within the allowable return period

What is this "allowable" return period?

  • I'm trying to take advantage of the amex deal, but it keeps coming up as Google Pay for payment method…

    • Amex credits will work with Google/Apple/Samsung Pay, it won't if you use PayPal or something

      • But I didn't get the amex confirmation email though?

        • I received email from Amex immediately after my second order which made the total spent $150+.
Anyways that was on Friday night when the deal just started.

        • if you see amex transaction as google pay instead of google store then it seems you dont qualify. that is what happened to me.

          • @naira: I'm seeing transaction as Google Play, not Google Store or Google Pay. Cancelled the order as i only wanted to save $30. Ozbargainer mentality kicked in, I guess spending $150 isn't exactly saving $30 lol.

    • I've tried almost every conceivable method of purchasing this and can't for the life of me get this to not show Google Play. I think it's out of stock now.

      • Same, I given up now.

        • I hope this works for you but this is my personal experience when purchasing mine:

Step 1: Load up the item in your basket (remember to enter the promo code too) so everything is ready to go
Step 2: Open a new link to log into your Amex account and click on Redeem Now under the Google offer
Step 3: Proceed to your cart and select Add Credit Card (don't worry if it still says GPay) and click purchase
Step 4: Check your Amex account under pending, it should now say Google Store.

If your experience is the same as mine, it will come up as Google Store.

          Good luck

          • @hyouden: Thanks mate, but it didn't work for me, still showing Google Play. Now whether if I should cancel the order again…

  • For those that purchase the Chromecast and Nest Mini in separate orders, how long did it take for the AMEX cashback confirmation email to come through? It's usually instant but it's nearly 24 hours and I haven't got mine.

    • It was instant for me. Check your Amex transactions. Make sure you are seeing both amounts being charged as Google store. Not Google Play

  • Which apps does the Google TV support?

    Can't find a list anywhere.

Or can you load anything from the Play Store? eg Prime Video, Binge etc?

    • +1

      Yes, it's basically Android TV

    • You can also sideload apk android apps

  • Guys, planning to send this overseas. Description says offer must be redeemed in the same country in which a user’s Netflix account is established. Anybody had a chance to activate this bundle overseas? Thanks

    • my understanding is you need to activate credit with Australian account. Box should work overseas no problem

    • Also keen to understand this. Was hoping to gift Netflix for Christmas to my bro overseas.

  • Ok. I thought they would just apply the credit if the user is an existing Netflix subscriber as long as it is used in the same country where the Netflix account was created.

  • Is this only for Netflix standard plan, can't be for Premium one?

    • +4

It is credit equivalent to 6 months on a standard Netflix plan. If you apply the credit to a higher tiered plan, it will only give the credit value which could mean you only get like 4 months or something.

      1 month standard Netflix = $15.99 p/month
      6 months standard Netflix = $95.94

      1 month premium Netflix = $19.99 p/month

      So

$95.94 divided by $19.99 = about 4.8 months of premium Netflix once it's applied to your account.

I don't know what happens with the .8 as I only use the standard Netflix plan.

  • I already have Chromecast Ultra. What does this version of Chromecast bring extra? Is it just the fact that it has Google TV built in?

  • Will be ordering two of these using my Google account. I'm aware I can add both credits to my Netflix account, just wanted to confirm something before purchasing. My sister uses our Netflix account, once she registers her chromecast with her own Google account she would then just login to our Netflix and away she goes correct?

    • You will receive a Netflix code that you can use for any AU Netflix.

    • I think she would need to login as you when setting up the Google TV and then once the Netflix offer appears, log back out and set up the Google TV again.

  • Some of my video files won’t play properly on Plex on my LG C1 (usually multi-track audio 4k files). Will using Plex on Chromecast help?

    • i have LG tv too (maybe 6 years old model, but it is smart tv with 3D so pretty decent).
got plex client built in as you aware.

since i got this Chromecast with GG Tv, i dont use that comes with the TV anymore.
the plex on GG Tv is so much better, faster, everything.

  • I have a normal chromecast that we use in our caravan. It's a pain in the bum, as need to use the wife's phone as a 'hot spot' to connect the chromecast to, then stream from my phone, via my wife's hotspot (haha!) to the caravan. Super frustrating.

With this googleTV, can you simply cast straight from a phone to the chromecast, or do you need to go through the whole rigmarole of hotspotting, and the real benefit is having the remote?

Cheers for any help in advance.

    • If I understand what you are asking correctly, the chromecast needs its own connection to the internet, however that occurs.

A cheap way of doing this would be to create a semi - permanent hotspot with an old mobile you have lying around. Get a cheap data only sim and the phone acts as a travel modem.

Once the chromecast has internet, you can just use the remote without needing to 'cast' to it, since it has its own app environment.

  • someone said we can ditch the tv remote and just using the gg tv one? really?
on my gg tv the power button on the left bottom is just powering on/off the chromecast not tv.
also what if i have soundbar connected to the tv ? i still need to use the soundbar remote, right?

    • That's how I use it. I don't watch any of the channels on the free to air tv.
When you set up the chromecast with google tv it steps you through using the chromecast remote to control the tv as well. I use the one remote to turn on / off the tv, as well as adjust volume.

      Don't have a soundbar so can't comment.

  • Find it slower/laggier than my tvs smart apps… annoying as the remote is delayed when I press a button using this Google TV

    • Yeah but its a $99 device, its not gonna have the same powered CPU and GPU package as the one in your $2000 tv. The main purpose of this is to give people the access to google ecosystem and user interface which you wont have if you ended up buying a samsung or LG tv.

    • what tv you have?
mine LG 3D smart tv from like 8 years ago i think. this GG tv is better

    • Not me, this is easily faster than any TV in the house.

Is probably why I got 3…

  • Only showing the white one available whith bundle. But both pink and blue are available when you buy Chromecast alone. Any hacks to get the blue one with Netflix?

  • I had so much anxiety about the AMEX deal not activating, thankfully got the email immediately as soon as I checked out.

Got a $119 Chromecast TV with Netflix and $39 Nest Mini.

I used the Edge Browser, used the direct link from AMEX offers website, and then entered in a new credit card for each order checkout.

  • Purchased. Thanks OP!

  • Do we have to pay return shipping if we return something? The Return policy seems to indicate you do.

FYI, I'm not trying to return the Chromecast and keep the Netflix credit. Unfortunately the first time I did it it registered as Google Play on AMEX and not Google Store. So just wondering if it's worth the hassle of trying again and returning the first lot (which has already shipped).

  • caved in with 2 hrs to go…. can always sell it…

    • Your comment made me cave 😁

    • Sell it at a loss?

  • I tried to order by the Google Store silently cancelled my order. I called Google Store support and they said many people have had the same issue and the issue is being investigated.

    • Did you have an issue with payment verification or something else?

  • Very fast delivery by Google and Startrack. Ordered on Sunday and received it this morning

  • Netflix can only be activated by connecting the Chromecast. I'm guessing it can't be returned for the $99 refund if used/opened.
