$421.45-$522.26 iPad 2, 3, 4, 5 Trade-in Value When Purchasing Selected Microsoft Surface Devices @ Microsoft via CEXchange

Eligible old iPads to trade-in;
iPad 2
iPad 3
iPad 4
iPad 5

Eligible surface devices;

Surface Go 2 from $629
Surface Laptop Go - from $879
Surface Pro 7 - from $1149
Surface Pro X - from $1699
Surface Book 3 - from $2399
Surface Laptop 3 - from $1599
Credit to @gtrain

Trade-In Process:

  1. Purchase a surface device from above at the Microsoft Store
  2. Get an online valuation of your old device to trade in
  3. Upload surface purchase details
  4. Send your old device in
  5. Receive the valuation amount back into your bank account
  6. Receive your new surface device

iPads 2, 3, 4, and 5 give a high valuation compared to most other devices for some reason, I think it has to do with purchasing these specific surface devices because purchasing anything else drops the value significantly.

  • Really hope they will honour it not sure how it takes

    • This deal was not new, already have people trade in their iPad 2 before this deal posted here.

      • Yeah but how long it takes though a month I guess? I'm not opening the new surface go laptop until the funds are in my bank… In case something happens

      • Yeah but the deal expired after being ozbargained :P

  • Good deal, hopefully this offer is still valid when JB do their next 20% surface sales.

    1. Buy from jb, upload receipt.
    2. Buy an used ipad 2 for like $50-70
    3. Send it back
    4. Profit
    • +1

      Buy from jb, upload receipt.

      You didn't read.

      • Ahh damn.. Oh well.

        • +1

But Microsoft store may do the same deal at the same time as JB but nobody know the trade in value for iPad by that time.

  • Waiting for next sale from MS.

  • What the difference between Microsoft business and the normal retail store? Require an ABN during check out?

  • They have now removed the option to select which surface device was purchased and gives a value less than $50 and ending this deal. We can now only hope they don't consider this to be an error since they have confirmed the $400+ valuation to be correct on Friday.

    • They better not just credit $50, will just return the MS item otherwise

  • +1

Tried uploading the receipt and it just wouldn’t work for me. Now the iPad is valued at $38 and I’ve already paid for a Microsoft product I don’t want/need - what a waste of time haha

    • The exact scenario I was afraid of. Hope you are able to get a refund like some said.

    • What does it say? Mine uploaded just fine last night. It is was just a pdf of the order confirmation with the status still pending.

  • I have the labels that says my ipads value is $421. But, the microsoft order is still pending. Not sure if i should cancel the order and forget about this. Anyone going ahead?

    • +3

Microsoft has 60 days return policy should you not get the full trade in value.

      • But, what will happen to the ipad if they value it at $20 and I want it back? Will ce exchange return it? or do they have the right to keep it?

        • Maybe call them before you send your iPad. I am going to cancel my order with Microsoft.

Seem people solved out after complaints, also some said here they have no problem.

        • +2

They mention in their FAQS "If you reject the new value, CExchange will cancel the trade-in, email you tracking details, and ship your used device back to you within 5 business days." So I think you should be fine

          • +1

            @newsat: Thanks folks.

          • @newsat: My reading is they should only issue a new trade in value if the condition didn’t match, so if you have a device in pristine quality it’ll be harder for them to revise the value? Can’t seem to see anything about error in original trade in value.

“If CExchange determines that the condition of your device doesn’t match the information you provided during the online trade-in process, you’ll receive an email with either a revised appraisal value or the option of recycling if the device has no resale value. If you accept the new value or don’t reply within 7 days, CExchange will continue with the trade-in and either issue the new amount to your payment method or, if your device is determined to have no resale value, recycle your used device at no charge. If you reject the new value, CExchange will cancel the trade-in, email you tracking details, and ship your used device back to you within 5 business days.”

            • @Poombear: CExchange reserves the right to notify you in the case of an errant offer based on a database error and return the device(s) to you at no cost to you.

              • @Applause: Wow that's crazy so lets see if we do get that $4xx bucks for trading in iPads….if not Please ban this CExchange forever on ozbargain

      • Microsoft has 60 days return policy

In that case shouldn't open it until received trade value

      • Have to see what happens then. Lets hope i get the funds before the 60 days from CXExchange otherwise where is this refund policy?

      • it looks like its only 30 days when you read terms of sale

  • After speaking with Microsoft store team on the phone just now they said they cannot cancel the order (its still in Pending status on my account but the cancel button is gone). So either they honour the advertised trade in price or they told me I'll just have to go through their return process once the device arrives. Did anyone actually get the roughly $400 deposited back into their account from an earlier trade in?

  • Pack it up boys, time to cancel my order as i couldn't get to upload my receipt before they removed it

    • Why upload it so late?

      • it just didnt work for me, kept saying the pdf is in wrong format, so all i could do is wait

        • OK, deal already expired anyway. I have to use the PDF that I printed from my Microsoft account order history not the one from email.

          • @superforever: Yeah i did the order history one even in different browsers, same result. all good, just get it refunded now :)

  • Seem all the trade in value gone down, Surface Pro 4 m3 was over $400 yesterday and didn't ask for what device want to buy.

  • Shame I missed out on this ;( Does anyone know when these old iPad deals will be back?

    • these old iPad deals will be back?

I don't think it will come back soon for such a good trade value $4xx for old iPads.

Even the Surface Pro 4 m3 trade value dropped was $4xx yesterday.

      • dammit. oh well congrats to those who got it

  • I posted mine today with everything packed well, cable and charger. Lets see what happens.

Also gave them a screen film still intact on it.

In perfect condition, signed out and wiped, lets see what they say when they receive it and if i get my funds

    • i did so today as well

  • My iPad arrived to them yesterday. I'll let you guys know what happens next, nothing so far.

    • Good, I sent out yesterday morning.

    • Thanks keep us up-to-date. I'm hoping they will honor this deal for those who made it.

IF they forfeit the trading value I'm returning the MS item in spanking new condition unopened. it's the only way to treat unethical, unreasonable crap like this to lure people to buy surface and not giving the promised trade in value

If you receive the trade-in value it is a better deal than the Surface laptop go at HN or JB-hifi previously. About $100 less

      • I'm returning the MS item in spanking new condition unopened.

Same, thinking I should return it even they honor it, I already have Surface Pro 7 bought Surface Laptop Go.

Bought because Surface Pro 7 can't really use like a laptop on lap.

    • Have you received any further updates since your item arrived at their depot?

      • No email that they've received it like what the other person has said. I can't see the the order in order history though.

  • Anyone know if Surface Laptop Go can use ANY usb-c hub? it does't have to be an MS one right?

    • Any one will do, USB is Universal not proprietary.

      • Thank you so much

  • I didnt get a chance to upload my receipt as it kept failing.
    Have to initiate return now.
Shame, it was a great deal.

    • We don't know if its an actual deal, when you think about there would have been an influx of iPads sent to them. They can claim its a database error then none of us will get anything.

If they do that I will return the goods to MS within 60 days hopefully they give us a response within 60

      • They can claim its a database error then none of us will get anything.

This is what VicGG said on 25/09/2021 - 19:27

They have been doing this for a very long time.

I traded in my 2nd gen 16g iPad mini for a surface laptop 4 and got credited for $380.

        • Yes but now the deal has expired. There are also comments about cexhange being dodgy and claim your goods are faulty and give you peanuts for it. So just need to be careful

          • @neonlight: Hope MS support them with this deal they will have no reason why not honor it.

  • Damn. How did i miss this.

  • Just got shipping notification for Surface, haven't sent in my iPad yet.

Will wait until I hear if anyone is successful before sending I think.

    • -1

You do know you have a limited time to send the iPad, right?

      • -2

The package must be postmarked by 10/10/2021 to maintain your appraisal value.

I think I've got time. Btw "postmarked" doesn't mean "appraised by".

Tell me again why it's stupid to wait likely only one day instead of blindly sending in an iPad just for it to get redelivered if they decide it's only worth $30?

        • If you are from Sydney it may take a few days to arrive, otherwise longer from other states.

auspost is very busy at the moment.

          • @superforever: Okay, it seems you don't know what a postmarked date is.
It is the date that is stamped on to a parcel when it enters the system, rendering your whole argument irrelevant.

  • Did anyone have an issue with their shipping labels? Mine was rejected at AusPost so I had to request a new one.

Also, I had selected no power charger in the assessment but the CEX email requested cables and chargers otherwise the full amount would not be credited—anyone have luck without sending those in?

    • +1

the CEX email requested cables and chargers otherwise the full amount would not be credited—anyone have luck without sending those in?

You mean the email after you submitted the trade in or further email from them after they received your iPad? I think that is just a standard email.

I also selected no power cable and charger.

Mine still in transit to them, auspost very busy at the moment.

      • Yeah even if they received it might take up to a month to get a reply. That is what I'm concerned about if 60 days is enough. I included charger and cable. Hopefully they will assess and pass mine for "being nice"

      • Ok cool, yeah I was talking about the standard email back.

    • Austpost person just casually took my box while I was on the queue without a problem, I was worried for a bit since they didn't scan it. But saw tracking updated, when I go home and check.

      • +1

        But saw tracking updated

That's mean they gave you a receipt

  • Shipped my iPad, will see what happens and fingers cross

  • Surface go 2 just arrived

  • got an email confirming my ipad was received.

    keenly awaiting a further update.

    • Do keep us updated. Send mine today.

    • How long was the wait between the item arriving and receiving a confirmation email that the iPad was received?

      • +1

sent Monday morning from metro Sydney.
got the confirmation of receipt on their end this morning.

    • When did you post it and when did they receive it as per Auspost.

  • My surface go2 also just arrived.

I just checked the website, has the price dropped down compared to last week??

    • Yes, 8GB 128Gb $934 now, can we get price guarantee?

      I think they have

      • +1

Keep in mind only 1 price promise is available per device so if the price drops again in the next 60 days or so you can't get another.

        • Is that price guarantee only with MS store?

          • @superforever: Yes, there's terms and conditions relating to the price promise at the bottom of the page you posted.

            • @Applause: Let me try online chat.

May also match with third party store (but NZ)

              • @superforever: Looks like TGG and HN are offering much lower prices

                • @profeeder55: Yes but Microsoft only price promise their own store, may have to wait for Microsoft to drop it, so 60 days to wait.

                • +2

@profeeder55: For Surface laptop go, Its $777 now on the same config and I paid 999 before, I hope MS gives that difference back. If CExchange works out then I would try to claim the difference after $454 trade in.

                  So that's $999 - $454 - $222 = $323

I can only dream that happens

                  • +2

@neonlight: I have just chat with MS and they accepted the refund and received from paypal.

                    • @superforever: cool where do you do that? do you call them?

Anyway i think there's no point doing that until CExchange can confirm about that trade in
