  • Uncapped means you can get multiple subs?

  • So if I buy the 3 year sub for 109, I’ll get 97% cash back?

      • Anyone used these people before? I suppose for 97% off it’s worth it.

OP, are you saying to click on the Shop Offer section on cash rewards that says 86% off? And that’s still give 97% cash back?

I've been using PIA for years but as soon as my sub is over I'm out of here. Speeds are just getting worse and worse and worse, they struggle with Netflix and BBC Player.

I'd not renew even at this price.

          • @Homerlovesbeer: I've been using it for years ago. I don't run it when streaming, but for downloads etc it's been great even now getting fast speeds many times that needed for 4k streaming. If you have been using the Sydney server it had problems for ages though until recently.

          • @Homerlovesbeer: I used PIA for about the last 5-6 years and mine is due to expire in Nov this year, I just took the plunge and got NordVPN with 95% cashback. It's great so far.

PIA was still going well for me and I had no complaints, the reason I went to Nord is because they have more servers in some SEA countries that I wanted.

I've been using them for years and it's been good, although I read they changed ownership recently and these insane deals make me think I'm definitely now in some PsyOp/Honeypot. I don't do anything particularly naughty though, so I think it really wouldn't be worth them blowing my cover to reveal that I sometimes buy eBooks from UK shopfronts.

        • I have both Nord VPN and PIA, however PIA is lot slower than Nord VPN

      • So could get over 100% back if the rate movements go your way…

    • Just signed up and got $102.61 tracked.

PIA was bought by Kape. Which has also bought ExpressVPN and a bunch of VPN review sites which surprise surprise after a few months now rank Kape owned VPNs top. Kape is the changed name of Crossrider which was big in malware distribution. Owned by a billionaire who did time for insider trading.
    Pass.

Edit: found the article i prev read about them
    https://restoreprivacy.com/kape-technologies-owns-expressvpn…

    • Which one do you recommend? ( eg: surfshark, nordvpn, …)

    • +2

Wow, seems like it is a front for Israeli intelligence.

      • Woah wtf do tell me more

        • +2

Looking at the comments in that article. Seems like the new parent company was an Israeli malware company. Kape with ties to the Israeli defence forecast, intelligence unit.

          And this..

The chief information officer for ExpressVPN once helped the United Arab of Emirates orchestrate a massive cyberspying campaign on computers across the globe.

According to the Justice Department, ExpressVPN CIO Daniel Gericke and two others worked as hackers for hire for the UAE to develop “zero-click” attacks capable of breaking into internet accounts and devices, including those in the US.

All three formerly worked for the US intelligence community. However, by offering their hacking expertise to a foreign country from 2016 to 2019, the trio broke US export controls, which required them to obtain a license from the State Department to provide such services. Reuters originally reported on the hire-for-hacking scheme with the UAE, and said the spying ensnared iPhones and internet accounts belonging to activists, political rivals, and even Americans.

The cyberspying naturally raises questions about the security around ExpressVPN. However, the VPN service is sticking with Gericke, who ceased his work with the UAE once he joined ExpressVPN in December 2019.

    • Is NordVPN still alright to use

    • +1

Yup they also bought CyberGhost which is pretty terrible. I've stopped using ExpressVPN.

      • Im getting over 200mbps on PIA Sydney server, between 100-180 to PIA Singapore, via fast.com test?

        • I'm only getting 130 down on PIA Sydney, down from 250 before

      • what speed are you getting on mullvad on fast.com?

    • +3

Thanks for the info. As soon as my subsription is up, its time to jump ship. Should probably just do it now….but the stingyness is strong.

      What’s your opinion of Windscribe?

    • Doesn't surprise me, VPN is perfect fit for doddgy companies /agencies and drug deals etc.

    • This is why we can't have anything nice.

PIA was the go-to for many years as they were one of the few that didn't sell info or keep logs…

      Well there goes that idea.

  • Can anyone using PIA confirm if it unblocks Amazon US Prime, Netflix US/UK?

    • +1

      No it does not

    • Does not work with Netflix - gets the ol' "You are behind a VPN".

    • Nope it's just rubbish. I'm going too try surfshark

      • Surfshark is 95% @ Shopback, let us know how you go :)

        • It only tracked $75 and I was charged roughly $92.

      • I have surfshark and Netflix US is not working on my Chromecast Google tv. Works great with Disney plus.

    • FWIW, I tried Cyberghost 24hr trial and it worked for these (I wanted to watch Futurama on Netflix UK). They have dedicated servers for them in the server list.
Speed seemed OK, took a little to load the stream but didn't buffer while watching.
No decent cashback for them atm, but maybe give the trial a go and see how it works for you.

    • I just tested it with Netflix US and seems to be working fine. Im using Chromecast with Google tv via the PIA app with US streaming east

Hi OP, I currently use PIA, do I just register a different email to take advantage of this? Thx

    • +1

Same. I would have thought a different email would work too. But that means for both Cashrewards and PIA right?

  • so $109 for 3 years with 97% cashback means after cashback is about $10 for 3 years or am i missing something?

    • Nope, not missing anything.

Your mind would have been blown by the earlier shopback 110% PIA cashback: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/643255

I got it during that deal, works well.

      • i checked my emails and it turns out i actually bought a 5year sub a few years ago. It is still valid so i started using that again :)
100% it was an impulse buy i saw on ozbargain and forgot about.

  • Pro-Tip, can request a free trial through the chat window to test whether the service is for you without any purchase or just grab 7 days free trial through through the android app.

  • purchased malware bytes and using privacy vpn from them. pretty good.

  • Get with the times people. Sentinal DVPN . First decentralised VPN service free and fast.

    • what's this? would love an explanation

Check it out. It's very impressive and the future . Currently only on android and iOS. Fully Encrypted, Censorship Resistant and Permissionless.

        • +1

All Asian nodes are in China? How do we know this is actually secure? I thought China didn't allow VPNs.

    • How the frick can you maintain security with a decentralised VPN?

Surely entry/exit node capture would be ridiculously easy?

    • Tor already exists

  • +1

This was at 110% cashback a month or two ago with SHOPBACK. Got three years for free (plus a couple bucks back)…

Now to find out what to actually use it for 😅

  • Guys & Gals,
Super impressed by the info above, 'community' at it strongest.

Winscribe was asked about above I would NOT go near for their free plan…no speed at all.
Jury's out on the paid one.

Ivacy review/feedback anyone? Speed, connection, security?

    thx

    • Long-time(>3 years) disappointed PIA user here

Tried a trial run of windscribe for only a month, only picked 1 extra server(AUS which includes a bunch) for 2$/mth, and it comes with all the other free servers at paid speeds.
I was getting >150MB/s and lower ping in some games than PIA ever got before the takeover(PIA SYD is even more utter trash now after they switched hosts).

Had I still not have a year left I would've never looked back.

  • I remember hearing about PIA rolling over on their customers to torrent trolls, so active logging, which makes it a pretty useless VPN, better off with Surfshark - my go to now.
