Any idea how long before one had to recharge with the recharge voucher, ie can I buy another one now to use 12 months from now?

    • Not sure but why risk it? There will be other deals closer to the date you need.

      • I don't remember voucher was discounted before.

        • Last year, iirc.

    • +1

It's generally recommended to activate a SIM within 12 months from the date of purchase. But it's usually on sale so you can buy another one next year. No need to stock.

      • +2
        • +1

Yeah, you need to activate within 30 days to secure the inclusion advertised. After that, you have to take any thing available at that time, e.g. they change the data allowance to 50GB.

          • @hawkeye93: I'm also confused regarding the activation date. Because with some providers I noticed there's actually an 18 - 24 months expiry date even though they said to be activated within 30 days. But the clause says 'to take advantage of the inclusions'. To me that sounds like if they were giving out extra bonus data. So in theory it should be safe until it expired.

I don't think they could change it to 50GB or even 80GB. The product is for 60GB therefore it stays 60GB. You will only lose the advertised bonus.

            • @craving: Advertised bonuses change though. I agree you'll get the 60GB that's the standard regardless but there may be 3 different bonus offers over 12 months you may have to activate. You should get whatever offer is current on the date of activation.

            • @craving: I'm guessing they could add data, because that is no loss to you. I doubt that they could subtract data, because you're paying for whatever is advertised ie 60gb or 120gb etc.

I'm not much of a mobile data user with amaysim unlimited 1gb plan ($10 month). They've upped that to 2gb month (still at $10). Prior to that they were often giving me a bonus extra gb. Now they often give me a bonus extra 2gb (total of 4gb).

              • @poohduck:

amaysim unlimited 1gb plan ($10 month)

                That's 13 months a year though, right?

                • @0jay: Do you mean 28 day months? If so, I don't know, and no disrespect intended, I'm not bothered if it is. It is now a 2gb plan, still $10. I'm not suggesting this would suit anyone here though - they'd all want more data.

                  • @poohduck: Yeah it's just an extra $10 a year but part of the value proposition. I was curious as I think I could survive on that plan but having a pool of data works better for me and a $10 saving's worth having all else being more or less equal.

                    • @0jay: Im really fond of the annual plans as my consumption is irregular. eg. if Im at home, I could be using less than a Gb/mth but travelling could see Gb/day

                      • @roonie: Yeah me too, tailor made for my use as well

                      • +1

@roonie: Amaysim now allows data banking if you stay on the same plan every month.

    • +1

Normal there is a expire date on the recharge vourche, the boost voucher I bought expired after 1.5 years.

    • +1

FYI, From my experience. Last time coles mobile recharge on sale on January 21 the voucher expire just 10 months from the date of your purchase. I would recommend do not stock this voucher. If you plan to use within 10 months. This is the right recharge for you for existing customer. Because last time l brought and check the recharge voucher date of expire it not cover until my expire date so l sent a compliant form to coles mobile and get a refund in a few week. Whenever you purchase this recharge 10 months will expire for coles mobile. I hope this info would be help.

    • Looks like activation by 2/11/21

    • This one for new customers only but note the same as a recharge is on special for $95.
So dont shoot yourself in the foot by being greedy!

  • Bonus is nothing compared with the monthly 10% grocery discount with Woolworths mobile, which is also better for Telstra network.

    • +9

That's nothing compared to sim slutting & shopping at ALDI.

      • Luxury.

      • Sim slutting and exclusively buying half price specials from colesworth beats Aldi on savings, although what you eat for the week is dictated by what's on sale.

        • +2

What I eat for the week is dictated by what free food offers are available for new sign-ups (eg Subway app) and/or if one of my UberEats accounts has a $30 promo for first order… ;)

    • +7

Yeah, but Woolies prepaid doesn't include international call so this may be better for many people.

  • This is a new deal to match Woolies right?

    • +1

Not really, Woolies is 10% off each month, capped at $50. This is a single shop, capped at $30.

      • Plus this is an online shop only whereas you can actually do 1x online shop and 1x in-store with WW each month to get two 10% off shops.

        • :0
really?? I just assumed it registered if you used either in a month. Is it via code?

          • +1

            @Tock: Yep:

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/653331

You get a code to use for the online shop, in-store when you scan your linked Everyday Rewards card it asks you if you want to redeem your 10%.

When it first launched WW were pretty loose on redemptions so people were able to do multiple in-store shops every month. But then WW cracked down.

EDIT - If you follow this link, there are other ways to get multiple in-store shops:

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/575978

For instance having your partner as a supplementary card holder on a WW Visa card but with a second linked Everyday Rewards card.

  • Does Coles Mobiles support VoWifi and VoLTE? Thanks

    • +1

Nope, only Moose Mobile and GOMO support these on Optus Network.

    • nope

    • neither

  • Do they support wifi calling?

    • Not yet.

      • -1

So it wouldn't work with Skype or similar?

      • Which carriers support Wi-Fi calling?

  • +3

FYI, previously buying coles sim pack and recharge voucher qualify the spend xxx getting xxx points promotion.

    • +2

Yes they do. Source: Been there done that

    • Thanks for this. Very helpful :)

  • And it's the Optus network, so useless for most of regional Australia… Dead spots galore…

  • +4

Nice that they’re offering a discount for recharging. That’s become increasingly rare with most MVNOs offering discounted starter packs ONLY.

  • -4

This is not the best deal. Paid 9.95 for 6 months with amaysim.

    • +1

      Many people don’t like sim-hopping.

  • +1

It's using optus network, if you are driving in M1, please expect call quality drops and cut off time to time.
Coles mobile support wouldn't do anything for you, they will ask you to specify address where calls get cut… you say M1, they wouldn't do anything for you lol
    no refund, compensation as well.

I would suggest just go with Woolworths mobile or Boost as they are more expensive (but similar price range) & Woolworths being big discount for 10% grocery off for every month.
Wasted money and just hope some other people don't go through what I have gone through.

    • +1

Pretty harsh complaining about drop outs travelling on a freeway at 110km/h.

      • +2

yeah, never experienced with Boost or Woolworths mobile, so something annoying in our life.
I or my wife spend an hour in each trip for commuting so it is important for me & and some other people to have call quality consistent while we are driving on a freeway.

    • +1

That's disappointing but isn't that a Optus wide issue?

  • +2

im using Coles mobile plan. No issue for me.

  • +1

Better than boost . It seems boost now cost $200 for 365days 80gb recharge, up from $150.

  • Can you stack a voucher on your account? My current plan ends in a few months. Can I stack this to commence after my initial 365 day period ends.

  • Excellent, mine ends at the end of this month. Easy recharge

    • Check your email see if you get 25% off for recharge which makes it cheaper.

      • Oooh yes I will. Thank you

  • Does this qualify for Optus Sports?

    • Of course not.

  • +2

For anyone in the same boat (365-day prepaid) I strongly suggest always comparing Coles to CatchConnect etc. and churn when you need to.

    For comparison:

CatchConnect is currently offering 240GB of data for $109
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/653050
    - Optus
    - no data rollover
    - excludes international sms or calls
    - can pay with Catch giftcards (from e.g. CR) on catch.com.au
    - earns cashback on CR or SB

Coles current offer: 60GB for $95
    - Optus
    - rollover up to 50GB data
    - includes international sms or calls (15 countries)
    - can pay with Flybuys $ in-store (and earn Flybuys $ in return)

For reference, I am currently on Boost (Telstra) but 4G network has been horrible in my area in the last month (and there are no attractive offers) so I am likely to terminate it.

    • Agree. I'm also dumping Boost. Telstra coverage is no better than Optus most everywhere I go, sometimes worse, and they are a pushing me off my old plan and upping the price.

CatchConnect is definitely the best deal right now but today is the last day!

      • Depending on where you live. Telstra coverage is better than Optus in my case.

        • Indeed, it all depends on your towers. In some areas Telstra is better, in some Optus, in others no appreciable difference. I live in Melbourne, where Optus had far better reception than Telstra in two of the last three houses I have lived in, and on some hiking and other trips around Victoria. Coverage maps for Victoria bear this out. Telstra shines in remote areas of Australia, like outback Queensland and WA, which I rarely if ever visit.

          • @sepa: I am in Sydney. The Optus signal is terrible comparing to that of Telstra.
One more point, I wish all these telco companies are Australia owned so the profit stays here.

  • +1

I wonder if I can pay with coles gift card..I can get discounted giftcards from suncorp, that will reduce the price even more.

    • I paid for a starter pack using discounted gift cards

      • good to know! thanks!

    • Combine this with your spend $x get X points promotion.

  • +1

Will the Coles SIM work fine in a Prepaid Optus Locked phone ?

    • Generally yes, but nobody can give you a definite answer unless you tell us what model you have?

  • Activated immediately, but they wont accept refund once you purchase

  • Is this the cheapest 365 days plan at the moment? My old man $89 365 day Catch connect plan expires in November. Need to decide who go with?

    • +3

$78 Amaysim (after CB) is another choice.

  • I wonder why people would choose coles when catch is still available

  • Is this better than boost?

    • Boost is 4g Telstra and Coles is 4g Optus.

Its more a weight of rural needs, blackspot locations and value per gb comparison.

Some of the Boost deals here are amazing, if you can hold off till a proper discount appears.

  • If I am already with Coles mobile, how can I use this for recharge?

    • Id imagine you have to start a new account and port your current number out then port back into the new coles. Just taking a guess, unless this can be used as a straight recharge.

    • +4

There’s also a recharge voucher on sale.

  • Be aware no international roaming with Coles

  • +1

Been on boost and now on this. I can't wait to go back to boost. My major issue here is that if you are using data and voice at the same time and driving then you are basically effed.

I learnt this the hard way. Data is dropped and it goes back to 3g which means your apps will stop working. The only fix I found so far is to hang up to get date too work again.

Stay away from it if you are using data and voice often at the same time

    • +1

Aka you need VoLTE. Afaik, Boost, Moose Mobile, Spintel and GOMO are those having it besides the big 3 telcos.

bought a recharge voucher today (6 Oct), expire on 26/Sep/22

  • Is this in-store only? Or can you buy it online too ?

New sim can be bought online.

  • I'm on the Coles $150/120Gb plan which is due to expire on 14/12/21 and was hoping to purchase the currently discounted $119 recharge voucher and apply it just prior to my existing plans expiry. I rang Coles Mobile this morning to ask if this was okay and the fellow said it should be fine but is dependent on the vouchers expiry date which nobody knows including the Coles staff until I purchase one. I still have 100Gb left and want to roll over 50Gb so don't want to stuff up the renewal but am also keen to save $30, the Coles fellow also said to disable the renewal auto payment option before applying the voucher.
