Nice inclusions..but I suffered through the last couple of weeks of optus on my previous 365 day catchconnect plan, never again. Texts were refusing to send, for weeks.

    • +7

Although Boost is dearer, I am happy with their speed and coverage. This sim is good for a spare number or data sim. Not reliable enough for your main number used everyday.

      • YOu mention this could be used as a data sim. Would I be able to put it in a wifi dongle?

        • Yes. I use it with my Optus dongle connected to Asus WiFi router

      • I'm ditching Boost after they ditched the plan I was on and increased the cost 33%. This Catchconnect deal is way better value compared to Boost's current plans.

No noticeable difference between Catchconnect/Optus and Telstra in Melbourne or anywhere else I've been in the eastern states in the last few years. My wife is on Optus and I regularly compare with Boost. Sometimes Boost is faster, sometimes Optus, depends on tower location, but I've never had reception when she hasn't. It might be different in Far North Queensland or outback WA but I'm not paying extra for Telstra's alleged superior coverage that doesn't deliver in 99% of locations.

        • The $150 plan? But the $200 is regularly on sale for around $154.

    • Hi mate, do you mean you can't send standard SMS messages with catch connect plan? Bit worried since I just ordered it.

      • +1

Yeah, it would tell me it failed to send, and I'd resend it over and over for up to 30 mins to get it to send. But i had no issues for the first 9 months or so, and some have reported no issues, so it still depends on your area. If optus works in your area you'd be fine

    • +1

you must live in woop woop, i never had an issue. i had to switch out because i bought iPhone pro max outright when it released last year and needed 5g coverage. worked perfectly fine with my iPhone 11 pro max with there 4g network.

      • I live regional but not rural. Never had an issue with optus even when i lived rural, but the service went shocking about 3 months ago and never went back to what it was

    • +1

I've been with Catch Connect for 12 months and never had a single issue. most of my family and friends are with them now also.
This has come at a good time as my existing 12-month plan is about to expire. Time to port out and back in again :)
      Thanks OP!!!!

    • Sorry, but this is a silly comment. It has nothing to do with Catchconnect but Optus reception in your locale, or it could be a problem with your phone. If Telstra has poor coverage in your suburb (as it did in mine for years until they built a new tower) then you will have problems sending texts with Telstra. It's all about the phone tower location, which differs with the area and the provider.

      • I have seen similar issues to what Rainbowbutterfly has indicated with my wife's catch connect mobile service, yet I never experienced the issue on my catch connect. For my wife SMS would sporadically delay to send, sometimes taking 30 minutes to send. It was not coverage or phone related, it was CatchConnect (I know they are just an Optus MVNO). Forced my wife to change providers and the issue has not reoccurred.

        • Which provider did she switch to? What model phone? And if you had no problem with texts on Catchconnect in the same locale, how does that prove your wife's issues were caused by Catchconnect?

          • @sepa: I used her phone for a month on my catch connect service, I had no issue. her phone issue still occured. Can't see how that can possibly be related to Optus coverage in my locale or phone related as you suggest.

  • +1

Kogan mobile has $135 for 250GB, which network is better?

    • +3

Voda vs Optus. Depends on your location.

    • I’ve found them to be on par in inner Melb, Voda probably pips out front on sustained speed

    • Do you travel or live outside a cap city?
Landmass wise, Optus coverage is huge compared to Vodafone, but if you only use your service in a well-populated area Vodafone is just as good.

  • I bought too early when it was only 120GB here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/602644
Clicking on that link shows 240GB. So maybe the bonus data will apply.

  • Any ideas/tricks on how to buy this deal now but not activate it and not start the 365 days until April next year when my current deal with another carrier expires?

CatchConnect's online chat seems to say this is not possible.

    • +2

You have like 1 year to activate the sim, iirc. However, whatever you get depends on the available plan at that time. So if they somehow decide to drop amount of data to 60GB, then that’s what you would get.

      • this is how its explained to me on chat as well.

    • I guess the t&c apply then…

  • +4

    Bought this $109
    And a $6 colour pencils
    Total $115
took the promo challenge from shopback : $15 off for $110+ purchase on catch
Hopefully eligble to get this $15 cashback
*promo challenge appeared on my shopback app, not sure for all or targeted
    Thanks OP

    • +5

I'm terms and conditions of cashback:

Cashback not applicable for Catch Connect purchases.

      • +3

        Hopefully they enjoy colouring lol

      • Correct…

  • Does catch allow international roaming ?

  • So appears to now apply to a new service and not just a new customer as per previous offers.

    • What’s the difference?

  • Excellent deal, looks like they're competing with Kogan's offer though not sure which came out first.

I just ported out of Catch this morning, took less than 5 minutes for the transfer to complete to Kogan

Come on, the copycat of jv.

      • +1

That's an insult to the copycat of jv

  • "You must activate your chosen prepaid plan on catchconnect.com.au within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier). Additionally, you must activate your Catch Connect SIM card within 24 months of purchase"

What is the difference between activating the prepaid plan and activating the SIM card?

    • +3

Activate within 30 days will secure you the bonus data. You have a year to activate the SIM but what you get depends on the plan available at that time.

      • Thank you!

      • Only one year?

        • It’s actually 2 years

  • I purchased this using shopback and got $3.47 back, bringing the total to $105.53

    • I purchased using shopback but am only tracking $0.99, did you track $3.47 straight away? I signed up with a $10 referral so brings the total to $98 at least either way so I'm pretty happy.

  • I just had 2 catch plans expiring. I stayed on 1 plan with catch and took $89 - 85gb deal. I hoped to Telstra - no problem. But I had issues when I tried to connect to Catch again. It took them 5 days to connect the service. Their customer service was ok-ok as they won't tell me in detail what was the issue. Eventually got connected.

But for the other service I went with Boost and I am very happy with it as it gives VoLTE and Wifi-calling which Catch doesn't give. Since it's Telstra there are no coverage and 4G speed issues.

I would say if you are hoping a carrier better to wait at least 1 week before connecting again to same carrier.

  • Dang got the 1 year Kogan deal yesterday. This is much better!

  • I used catch before, but that was a year ago, can I still use this deal as a 'new customer'?

    • for sure

      • I just left catch, about 2 weeks ago, would I be a “new customer”?

        • +2

          Yep, I would think so.

  • This is crazy

  • +1

    Perfect timing. Thanks.

  • +1

I’m currently with Catch so assume I won’t be eligible for the deal? If I port out, how long do I need to wait to become a ‘new’ customer?

  • New customers only… (bugger currently with catch and loving it!
Is there a cheap and quick way to port out for a day then apply this deal?

  • bugger just bought the $89 plan few days ago…wonder if I can return it as I havent activated it yet…

  • Anyone who is on Catch connect, please check if they support conference calls?
Amaysim does not, thus looking to port out.

  • Anyone know how to limit data usage per month on an iphone? Want to use for kids phone but i know they will eat up the data quick with YouTube and netflix

    • Turn wifi on.
      Give them books.

    • Good discipline.

  • +2

Used this with the $15 off $100 Afterpay special. Another 12 hours left I think.

    • Hi would you have a link please?

      • +1

Requires an afterpay account with pulse rewards activated, will be in your rewards tab.

  • can this be used with port in numbers?

    • Can I bring my phone number with me?
Transferring a phone or service number between phone companies is called 'porting'. Porting can take up to 2 business days to complete, however should be much quicker.

What needs to happen if you want to keep your number and transfer it to Catch Connect?

Head to activate and have your new Catch Connect Prepaid SIM & your credit card or debit card details handy.
During the process we will send you an SMS to verify you want to bring your mobile number over to Catch Connect. Please keep your current SIM in your device to receive this SMS.
Please ensure when you enter your details, they match the details of your current Mobile Service Provider's record.
Select 'Keep Your Number' when you've reached the Your Number section and enter your mobile number.
After we have confirmed all of the relevant details, we'll do the rest for you.
Note: Once your number has switched over to Catch Connect, your current service will be disconnected.

  • I am using catch and want to use 2nd sim with catch. Am I count as New customer?

    • Catch have noticeably dropped the 'New customer only' blue banners from each offer and now just refer to a 'new service'.
I would read this as meaning if a customer is setting up a new service, ie a new number and not porting their existing number over then the same customer could run this offer concurrently with their existing plan.

Good question and would need to be verified before parting with the hard earned oola doola.

      • Thanks. Ordered 2 for me and my nephew.

    • T&Cs state new service not new customer.

      • Offers have been updated to indicate new customers only now.

  • I notice several questions relating to what constitutes a new customer. The OP says new services only, with no mention of having to be a new customer. I understand that means it applies to existing customers who order a second service, as well as to new customers. Is my understanding correct?

    • Snap.

    • OK, it is actually for new customers only:

https://catchconnect.com.au/Mobile states "Double Data - New Customers Only"

      • Yes, I see that the blue "new customers" banner has now been added back to each offer again, shame.

  • Do anyone know if you bought older sim on $120 for 120GB whether you would be able to activate on this deal? TIA

    • +2

No, unfortunately you just get the 120GB of data and not the extra bonus data of this current offer.

  • “Offer end 05/10”, does this mean if I purchase this on 05/10, I have to activate by 04/11?

    • I would like to know this as well.

    • I was wondering the same! As that's what I wanted to do… Did you ever find out the answer?

    • +2

Ok I've just called them to ask about this and they said that we have 30 days to activate it from when we purchase it (so even if that's today/tomorrow) and we will still get the double data promo.

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

  • which network gives better calls and internet speed? This or Kogan?

  • You must activate your chosen prepaid plan … by the date advertised on the promotion

    Offer ends 05/10/21

Given that it will take time for the sim to be posted and arrive, what happens if it arrives after the 5th?
Do you miss out on the bonus data?

  • +2

Even tho they say 'within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier)'…i activated the previous deal 60+25GB for $89 on 18Sep though the end date of promotion is 14Sep. Chat advised it's within 30days of purchase (i bought it on 22Aug) and I can't use other Catch sim card which I had bought earlier, have to use the one I bought for the deal. Because 18Sep is a Saturday, number ported over only on Monday 20Sep. Hope this helps.

    • +1

Cheers. I asked Catch about dates, but they haven't yet replied.

      • Let us know once they replied please, keen to know when the latest I can activate this? Many Thanks

        • +1

They haven't bothered to reply, so I won't bother with them either.

        • Posted this above but I'll post here for you all to see
I've just called them to ask about this and they said that we have 30 days to activate it from when we purchase it (so even if that's today/tomorrow) and we will still get the double data promo.

      • Offer ends 05/10/21, unless withdrawn earlier.

  • Does anyone know where to buy discounted Catch egift cards?? Thanks in advance for any responses.

  • I started to port in Catch 5 days ago and they told me they may need another week to active my service….Avoid them at all cost

    • 5 days ago was the long weekend, so maybe that's why. I ported mine on Saturday morning, and it got ported over the following Monday around lunchtime.

    • I just ported 5pm yesterday which is saturday and the service activated within 10 minutes.

  • For people that's ordered, how long did the sim take to arrive?

    • +1

got mine today, ordered 23/09 evening, letter sent dated 24/09, received today 29/09 to sydney metropolitan

      • +1

I ordered 2 sims 24/9 and just got 1 on 1/10. I just wonder that will I have the bonus data if I received the 2nd sim and activate after 5/10.

        • +1

wont work this way, it depends on the date you purchase, not when you receive.
you have 30 days after the day u purchsed.

          • -1

@BaeSuzy: Thanks. They should make it more clear as they said "or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier)". Still waiting.

            • @axatag: i agreed! had to chat to them, 2 times to get the info!

    • +1

ordered on 24 sep and order status has not changed to in progress yet.
