  • Does this controller have any extra or hidden features or is it just a standard controller?

    • They haven't said anything is different about it, just a special colour controller.
      Edit: I stand corrected.

      • +1

Are you referring to the background you unlock?

        • +1

          Yup.

    • +1

yeah, "As an extra added bonus, connecting the controller to any Xbox Series X or S console unlocks a special 20th-anniversary dynamic background."

    • +2

This is the 4th generation controller, if you have any earlier models, this one might be a solid upgrade, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_Wireless_Controller
Versus gen 1, it has bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack, share button, improved D-pad, USB-C connector instead of Micro-USB, tactile grip on trigger buttons and underside, etc

      • +1

Is the included controller with the Series X model a gen 4?

        • +2

          That's right gen 4

  • +1

Great opportunity to get rid of my ugly Minecraft controller! Thanks OP

    • +15

Depending on the wear. You would be better off selling it privately, they are going for $75+ pre-owned.

      • +1

Wow, really. I’ll check it out.

        • Quick eBay search for 'Minecraft Xbox One controller' and then refine results to only include "pre-owned" and "sold listings" gives you an idea of what it's worth.

  • +1

What's the process here, just preorder online and when it comes out bring your old controller to trade? Is there a need to call the store to lock in the trade?

    • +4

Once select click and collect at the store you want to Buy it from
      And you pay $10 Deposit
When its released you take your trade in then and Pay the balance minus the Trade value depending on your Level
No need to inform them prior to arriving

      • +1

        that's great thanks

  • Wander if they'd take a corded Xbox one remote, about the only way I'd pay 60 bucks for the privilege of giving them a remote to get one back.

    Edit: nope :'(

  • Can I trade in a XBox 360 controller with this deal?

    • +1

Those aren't worth much. They won't take it. It would have to be an Xbox One controller.

  • How do people in lockdown get trade deals though?

I.e. Farcry has a trade deal that ends before lockdown is lifted.

    • I guess they won't be.

    • Pre-order now by paying the $10 deposit and paying full price via click and collect. Once lockdown ends, trade in the old controller by mentioning the promo and get a refund.

They are of this and will allow exceptions due to this. Call your local if you need further confirmation.

      • Nice.

        Thanks mate!

  • Yeah it has to be an original Xbox One or Xbox Series controller. And it must be in reliable condition. Which means no counterfeits either. And it means no missing buttons, thumb sticks and all the buttons must work. You can't trade in your old broken down crap. I wonder how much bogans will try to trade in their old broken controllers or their counterfeits.

    • Bogans will try and they will get it trade. If you take a controller missing something they charge a $3 fee for refurbishment.

      Stop spreading wrong information.

    • +1

I traded in an Xbox One that didn’t boot properly without constantly resetting it and they didn’t care or charge me extra. Just shrugged the shoulders and took it.

  • Thanks dude, been wanting to get rid of my older controller. Used a 6% off gift card from Suncorp too.

  • Can probably sell the controller second hand on the open market for more than the difference, ebgames trade-in always been a scam but I guess people are lazy

    • A lot of old controllers won't fetch for much more than this promo.

    • Scam? Businesses wants to make a profit, that is why they exist. If they gave you more for it, they couldn't sell the controller at anything but a loss.

      • Clearly you haven't checked the prices on gumtree/marketplace recently, prices start at $50 (at least here in WA) for the most banged up rubbish.

        • +3

Right and at level 5 they'll give you $51 dollars for it. Now remember they'll ship each one off to an office to be tested and cleaned, ship back to a store and give the purchaser a 3 month warranty. They'll sell a controller to you for $68, so that is $17 for shipping, testing, listing online, stocking, selling, and warranty. Then they get stuck with old stock that no one wants too, look at all those Skylanders and old games that stay for years.

Hardly seems like a scam to me. Have you ever run a business or been self employed yourself? Try running a business yourself and see if $17 is a scam. With no level I think you are losing out. Good idea to price match stock and get bargins with them with an ID until you get to level 2 or 3 before you do these type of deals.

  • +1

This colour scheme reminds me of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

  • Nice, thanks!

Edit: is this purely for in-store? I can’t see the option to select a trade in option online when pre-ordering

Edit 2, never mind just saw the posts above

  • I did not think they did the bonus with these deals, they did not with games.

    • This is considered an accessory, different rules apply to hardware (consoles) and games. States in T&C's that EB World bonuses are allowed:

Not to be combined with any other offers except EB World

Was the same with the previous trade-in deal when Xbox Wireless Controllers were first released last year.

  • Question, I have an xbox One s that I use veeery casually. Is this controller backwards compatible with the xbox One s?

    • Yep will work, no dramas

      • Legend, might bite the bullet and go for the upgrade then :)

  • Thanks OP, exactly what i was looking for. Got a sticky controller and ordered this on Amazon. Now switched to EB for the trade in.

  • Oh great, thanks for making me feel old. Seems like just a couple years ago I was installing 120GB drives w/ XBMC in my XBOX.

    • I still have my xbox installed with xbmc sitting in the cabinet, together with xbox 360, xbox one and series x.

  • Whats resaleable condition? Like the rubber on my joystick is a bit warn would that work?

    • Yes. Discounting $3 fee to fix it.

  • Heard that xbox one controller only gets you $20 off not $35. Need to trade a xbox series for $35

    • Both of those prices are a rort. I'm sure you can sell the Xbox One for $50 at least.

      • How else do you think they get their used controller sale profit.

    • EB posted in Twitter "You can trade in your Xbox One or Xbox Series X controller to take advantage of this offer!" its doesn't mention a difference in trade value.

      • Brother asked an employee. He said it was $22 off for Xbox one controller. Not sure if he's right or not. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's fine print to this deal.

        • Nope. The base trade value for each controller is about a $10 difference however for this promotion you can trade either controller to get it for $64 which you would be better off trading in an Xbox One controller so you get the best value

          • @brandogs: Good to know. Hopefully it’s just a misunderstanding.

  • +1

This seems like a bit of a rip-off for just an upgrade in colour. I suppose if you like to collect these things it helps though. Guess they have to make money somehow on trades.

  • Will they take trade ins of OG Xbox Controllers?
    Keep with the theme

  • Thanks for posting OP, however you have incorrectly calculated the EB world bonus, its calculated on the difference of $35.95 not the amount you pay after trade.Update post if you wish.

EB World Level 2 10% Bonus = Trade Value $39.55; Remainder to Pay $60.41
EB World Level 3 15% Bonus = Trade Value $41.34; Remainder to Pay $58.61
EB World Level 4 20% Bonus = Trade Value $43.14 ; Remainder to Pay $56.81
EB World Level 5 25% Bonus = Trade Value $44.94; Remainder to Pay $55.01

    • Not sure how you worked out those calculations. It's exactly the same mathematical calculations from this deal. Going by the comments the price is correct.

You most likely had an EB employee who didn't put the deal through right.

      • The price to pay on the deal you linked is $49 before bonus less than the $64 before bonus on this deal.

        • I'm aware the linked deal is $49 and this deal is $64. I'm talking about the mathematical calculations from both deals are exactly the same.

I see what you mean where you added 20% to the total savings figure compared to me taking 20% off the deal price. I'll get confirmation from an EB Games Rep
