The $10 deal has no phone. It only says phone comes with the $248?

  • I dont get the comments floating around.. From reading the title and descriptions am I right in saying:

$10 will get you 2 months of unlimited National land line and Mobile calls, SMS and 8GB of data (4GB per month equivalent).

And you can resubscribe to this every 2 months, which means you pay $60 per year? Or cant you renew it for that price and have to go onto one of their other real plans?

Isnt that better than the aforementioned 356 day / 180 day plan (unless you want that crappy HTC explorer)?

    • The $10 offer is introductory, you'll have to go normal after that or hop onto some other introductory offer elsewhere.

      • Good for those who use it to tether. Once expended, just change to a new sim and no.

  • +3

So you cant just purchase heaps of these and keep using the vouchers on the original sim? Does the sim come preloaded or do you get a top up voucher for the 60day expiry?

The woolies deal was so good because you just purchased heaps of sims and vouchers then used the vouchers on the original activated sim card.

Using that deal I got myself a year of mobile credit for under $100. 45day expiry each top up, 5GB data, $250 to Optus and $250 to any number.

  • For blackberry users redbull is definitely depressing as its internet services arn't compatible (same with amaysim for that matter).

At least amaysim is iPhone compatible, redbull is nearly getting there but then have a read of their iphone page.

    http://www.redbullmobile.com.au/pre-paid/help-support/handse…

Still reckon if you have any smart phone other than a blackberry that amaysim is definitely the way to go (IMO) or else blackberry users switch to boosts $50 unlimited plan is the cheapest I could find.

  • My suggestion if you dont need the phone. Purchase the $10 so as to check coverage in your area. No doubt this deal will be repeated whereby can purchase longer term. My (2nd) Amaysim deal from last year expires April 4 so should blend in. Anyone up with groupon's guarantee (if they have one)? Would time permit to:purchase 1x $10 deal plus the 365 day deal with fone. If the coverage, once you activate the $10 deal is shit-could you enact any guarantee/refund they may have to rescind the 365 day deal and get a refund??
Addenda…. cannot find activation date anywhere. Me just stick with the $10 deal

    • +1

Just asked for a refund from Groupon, under the 'cooling off' T&C (can ask to cancel voucher within 7 working days of day after receiving it). First, Groupon never answered numerous emails within 14 days. When I rang to complain (15min on hold to Sydney) they only wanted to give me credit, not a refund. So not good. Their guarantee covers the trader not providing the service, or a poor quality service. When I did not receive a delivery of wine, the wine company contacted Groupon for me helped get a refund, & that was deposited to my account. So a complaint through the trader may work better than just complaining to Groupon. Good luck!!

  • Can this be used by people who already have red bull mobile accounts as a top-up? Can't see anything in the T&Cs that it is for new users only.

    • It comes tied to a SIM, and I don't think they would be willing to port RBM to RBM. After all their goal is to get new subscribers.

      • But I should be able to set up a new account and go back to the old one once the 60 days expire.

        • Sure, if you aren't expecting to be contacted at your normal number during that time. But that's not a top-up as you were hoping for.

      • but you CAN port your number! ;-)

    • No.

"$10 for Red Bull MOBILE Access 60 prepaid plan is for NEW customers only. Customers will receive a Red Bull MOBILE SIM Pack with the Access 60 plan already preloaded onto the SIM"

  • If this was on the Optus Network I would consider it but it is on the Vodaphone one and to be honest the service even here in the CBD of Brisbane I would struggle to get 8 GB Downloaed as it is so poor.

    • +1

So, use your unlimited calls & SMS to -campaign- for Vodafone to improve their network:

Call & SMS ACMA, you MPs, at all levels, all media that will have you - including talk-jocks, etc.

(Caution: If EVERYONE did this, V'fone would either they -fix- their N/W or they'd go broke for lack of customers! :-)

      • It's not just their network they have to improve. They keep turning on Call Catcher on my prepaid account and then I have to go disable it again. Very annoying as calls get diverted after 7 rings if I don't get to the phone in time. Also occasionally their usage page is broken. Though I don't use it much now, I just SMS 1512.

  • +1

    Cheers…. 8gb for $10… I'll have it.

  • So, if the TuneIn app works, you'll have lots of music to receive (from your choice of ~50,000 radio stations, worldwide) to help you use up your 4.5 - 5 GB / month,
ie, it the network can support the extra load… ;-)

    (Is it Vodafone?)

  • this is very cheap

  • Seems like the $10 deal is now sold out…
    Damm

    It just came back.. Weird!

    • yep, just bought one

  • +1

Could you switch between this and the telstra / optus offers from woolies / coles, so that you could get a year's plan for around $100? I.e. port between carriers.

    • As long as there is no porting out fee I dont see why you cannot lol

  • hmm.. did anyone get more than 1? 2 can't be activated with same credit card?

    • Can't activate voucher on Red Bull website?

  • Back to $75 per 60 days after the welcome pack runs out. Ugh.

    • You can just change to another plan? or not recharge? Sine it is prepaid.

      • Well, I don't use my phone for calls or SMS that much, and I'm currently paying about $5 per month, and looking at an even cheaper plan at the moment. I thought that this might be a way to keep phone functionaly for those times I do want it, but to have a bit of Internet on the phone itself as well, so that I could move my Pocket Wifi out of my pocket and into my bag.

        • Sounds perfect though for what you need it for. Just port out after the 2 months.

        • +1

It not worth the hassle of porting twice in two months (there and back), just to temporarily solve a problem that's not really a problem in the first place.

        • +1

If you hardly use your phone go on the TPG $1 plan, pay for what you use.

        • Another plan to look at is Amaysim's AYG. Minimum spend is $10 every quarter.

        • Or Savvytel's 10c/min plan, ultra low overheads there as well.

edit: though $50/gb(?) probably would rule it unsuitable

        • Thanks for the advice, guys! Anyone in the same boat might also want to look at Crazy John's FLATChat plan, although again that one runs to $30/GB for data, which is why this one interested me.

  • Avail in micro sim?

  • It's only for 2 months, too much hassle changing providers.

    • +1

It's great for my grandma!. I'll switch her over to this network and a different one when it ends. She still loves me :)

      • -1

I thought you were going to say she was going to expire before the 2 months…

        • :o :( nooooooooo

          She is like 89 I think. :o

        • @Turd
Get her drinking Red Bull and she'll be fine.

      • Ahhh, but then she'll call you all the time… ;)

        • Listen and you might learn something.

  • got one thanks

  • I bought 3 on this deal with my one credit card details +1!

    • Didn't it say one per person limit though?

  • So if you buy six of these $10 sims, can you have a whole year of free talk/text

    • If you change you name by deed poll 5 times.

      • lol

      • If only there was a coupon for a discount off name changes.. lol

    • +1

no, because you;ll need to activate (redeem) all 6 by 29/3. I could be wrong.

      • +2

Redeem Coupon by 29/3. Activate SIM within 6 Months.

        • Activate SIM in 90 Days. Please check Groupon - Fine Print.

        • +1

          @eurosp
I have written documentation that says 6 months, so I'll go with that.

"Red bull MOBILE SIM Starter Pack must be activate 6 months from date of purchase". I think they mean "within" 6 Months.

It is written on the Voucher I got from Groupon in the Fine Print. Others who bought later may have different terms and conditions?

Also from Red Bull Mobile site, right down the bottom in fine print
          http://www.redbullmobile.com.au/pre-paid/prepaid-plans/
"The SIM Starter Pack and recharge voucher you are purchasing must be activated within six months of the date on the proof of purchase for the SIM Starter Pack and recharge voucher."
Given that I am buying a SIM Starter Pack and Access 60 Recharge, I think it applies equally to me.

  • I could not find this deal on groupon Web site :
365 day is 365$ + $1 for the HTC explorer + 5GB data per month.
Can anyone please provide me with a link. Thanx.

  • Thanks, grabbed two. First experience with Groupon so I hope it's a pleasant one!

  • Has anyone tried the SIM in iPhone 3 - will it work?

    • +1

      http://www.redbullmobile.com.au/pre-paid/help-support/handse…

Need iOS5 for data to work. Counts out the 3G. 3GS will be OK.

      • bugger :-(
Oh well… guess you've solved my procrastination…lol! thks

    • +1

You'll need to cut the SIM down to a micro SIM. (Since apple have their own quirky, patented micro SIM, proprietary stuff).

Also it's written that the APN stuff may not work properly but I read somewhere that if you remove the 'proxy' it will work? I dont know the exact details check out the massive whingpool thread for more details:

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1722648

      • +1

iPhone 3G/3GS use normal SIM. No cutting required.

        • +3

Oh! Is it? I didnt know that. heh Guess Im not a iPhone user clearly.

  • Got 2. Hope to receive the sims before the 29/3 when I need to redeem/activate them.

    • No, that's the Coupon expiry. SIM has 6 month activation expiry.

      • where did you get the 6 months from steptoe?

in the fine print of the coupon it says you must activate within 90 days

If it was indeed 6 months activation then redbull will go bankrupt because people will buy the vouchers in truck loads. This means people can buys 4 vouchers activate them in this sequence day 0, day day 60, day 120, day 180 effectively $10x4 to last 8 months (6 months plus 2 months if last voucher is activated on day 180). Happy to discuss but sounds unlikely scenario to be allowed by redbull.

        • -1

You could have got away with it if it wasn't on ozbargain, now it is and everyone knows your trick, it won't happen anymore. Sometimes it's best to keep quiet rather than reveal knowledge to everyone.

        • Birdy how would you like it if you hadn't found this deal in teh first place on oz bargain ??

Earthman I want to know if it can work like this, your scenario looks plausible…

        • You are only a NEW customer once, so no go anyway.

  • How to redeem the coupon? or automatically deliver to my home address?

    • Voucher gets emailed. Redeem online to get SIM posted out.

  • i dont really understand this deal? do u actually get a phone as well? or just the sim with credit ?

  • +1

wow, when I bought in I was number 902 an hours or so ago now thy sold more than 1311

  • So the phone needs to be bought? Don't really get the " plus get a free FTC phone?"

    • There is 2 deals here. The deal for $248 includes a phone.

So pay $248 & you get this

180 Days of Unlimited National Calls and Mobile Calls plus Unlimited SMS with 4.5GB of Data per month PLUS the HTC Explorer Smartphone (Up to $328 Value)

  • I think they actually changed the terms and conditions - there was no mention of the 90 days to activate the sim card when I got mine last night.
Nor was their any mention of six months to activate.
I read the six months only on here. Apparently its in the Ts and Cs - but I haven't checked.

    • I'll back you on the changing of T&C

Read your voucher, right hand column.

"Red bull MOBILE SIM Starter Pack must be activate 6 months from date of purchase" on mine, so that's binding AFAIK.

  • And a search for the terms "90 days" and "Six months" and "activate" in the Red Bull full terms and conditions - reveals nothing. … interesting?

If it's not in the Full terms and conditions - then how can they enforce a prevention of multiple recharges by the same customer using the $10 deal?

The terms and conditions seem to be Red Bull's general Ts and Cs - and not written specifically for this deal.

    • Only for NEW customers. Use one and your aren't new anymore. The credit is in the SIM already, so no recharge voucher to be used, unlike the Woolworths deal.

  • +1

Also - just called the Red Bull call centre.

The 90 Days to activate the sim card STARTS from the DAY YOU PAY your $10. Not from the day you receive the sim card in the mail. They say allow up to three weeks (21 days) for delivery. So in effect - IF it takes that long to arrive - you would only have 69 days from the time of receiving the Sim card to activate the service.

So then you could recharge one 60-day period - and then start a second period (even under someone else's name) before Day 90 from today.

It's just good info for anyone buying multiples of these cards to be aware of.

By the above you can probably get two cards if you have two names to register them under - plus the ID check info etc for each person.

That would give you 120 days of usage. But Alas - no more :-)

  • I want to use the 8gb on my telstar elite modem Any idea what the speeds are with this network?

  • So you have 6 months to activate the SIM card, is that right? In that case, it will be worthwhile to buy 3 of these, then just port to a $2 simcard (or one of the 8 Woolworths mobile SIMcards I have lying around) and port back to RBM so you are again a 'new customer'. 6 months of unlimited phone calls for 30 bux, thats pretty epic.

    • +1

If you haven't purchased yet, I'd say you will be bound by the 90 day activation period.

      • even if you have to activate within 90 days you still can get 2, activate one as soon as you received it and then activate the 2nd one before the 90 days expired; that way you can get a good 4 months out of the 2 sims =)

        • Not in the same name. Only for NEW customers. I doubt you can be a "Born Again Virgin" customer

  • Yep, buying two. Much better value than my current mobile plan for data usage.

I'll stick it in an old android phone rooted, and use it as a wireless modem for my laptop and tablet. 8gb = plenty and much cheaper than most plans. Then just chuck out the simcard.

  • red bull mnvo + vodafone. buyer beware.
though 17c/day does seem attractive on the surface.

  • Ha, $10 offer has been withdrawn prior to closing time.. figures.

$10 deal sold out — 30 minutes before they said it would end …

How much credibility does Vodafone now have left? —still playing their potential customers like suckers/guitar strings … :-(

So what if they sold a few hundred more in the next 30 minutes …

Must be a lemon doing the marketing :-)

    • may be i am the last person that purchase that simcard :)

  • Vodafone? The network coverage is just horrible here in Perth…
Won't reckon to anyone unless really out of choice.
    Have to pass this one.

  • Missed the $10 deal too. However now the countdown clock says 95 hours remaining for some reason. Hope they'll extend it :P

And for those complaining about Vodafone's coverage - I actually did bring the matter to the TIO last month and miraculously the reception went from 0 bars 3G (usually stays on 2G) to 3 bars 3G… Bought an Optus SIM to try out and it also only receives 2G signal (iPhone). I live quite close to Brisbane's CBD so it's funny how only Telstra works fine in this area.

I did transfer to the big T in the meantime but would consider VF on a more permanent basis if coverage improves to 4 or more bars so the phone won't drain the battery that fast.

    • they are selling the $248, try to clear their stock, if they selling for $100, I will be very tempted to purchase one
