    • Yes, especially considering Chinese steel is the strongest in the world :)

  • +4

The vehicle was parked and the Fox bumped into it.

  • +17

This is classic. In OP's post in January this year he was viciously defending the quality of this crappy brand when others were trying to warn him of the poor build quality. Less than a year later he's possibly written it off hitting a fox of all things and still maintains it's good build quality?? Come on OP time to admit you were wrong on this one.

    • +1

Lol are you serious? I was joking about the fox; I had a head on collision and this is the only thing that happened. Lets admit you got it wrong this time ay

      • No Hussy
        you cooked it.

At least the parts will be cheap.

        • I wonder if we should all be more concerned about Haval drivers on the road…

  • +3

So you are looking at a bumper…. with absolutely no consideration given to the sub-frame. Possibly the entire engine would need replacing, and obviously the entire front end, sides, and all component in that area.

If an insurer writes off a vehicle, it is for a reason.

  • +5

It's a HOVEL, what can you expect. Worth about $2.50 and a bag of Smiths crisps.

    • +5

      Big or small bag?

  • Hi OP, just curious if the owner of this car was of east asian heritage? Reason for asking is I have never seen a single east asian looking person driving a haval nor have I ever seen an indian driving a mahindra before in australia.

    • +1

Asian heritage. Bought it to support the Chinese car industry. Op hit a cat sized fox and car got written off. That's what decisions made only on the basis of national pride can result in, in a nutshell.

  • +1

    Should buff out 😁

  • +1

If offered a good price take the write off. That car may have been a nice ride for now but it was a future money pit. With that kind of front end damage it's a good chance it will always feel off afterwards no matter how good the repair was

    • +1

      You’re right

    • It's a Haval. It would have felt off even without an accident.

  • Write off if no one available to repair it. Parts hard to get of anything atm.

Do you want a write off or repair?

    • +1

      Write off

  • +5

Send the wreck back to China, they'll melt it down and build another one out of it.

  • I would be surprised if it was written off. So the radiator and possibly fluid reservoir were punctured. Those are replaceable items. The 'engine smoking' is likely to be steam from the leaking cooling system.

  • +1

Brooo, you shouldve listened to this guys advice and gotten the Kia

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9930702/redir

    • +1

      lol disabled account….

      • +2

It was such an incredible write up on why he should buy the Kia. Such a shame we don't know who the author is

  • If it's written off, your policy will be cancelled and the car will be sold to someone who fixes it and resells it. The insurance company can make money by writing off your car, especially if you have an agreed value policy where the agreed value is below market value.

  • This can repair based on the pict.

  • I would go with the payout.

That's going to need a lot of bog.

  • If the parts are not available for the fix pretty quickly, that could have led to it being a write off. An 8 week wait on a new bonnet could mean 8 weeks of a rental car and 8 weeks paying for it to take up space at a panel beater. Both things that are factored into the cost when deciding to write it off.

  • +1

    Haval

    Write off.

  • +6

Is this the Indian guy from another thread earlier this year where he was asking for car recommendations and flaming everyone with insults while bragging about how rich he was?

    • +3

Hahaha you are right - I just read this thread when he was choosing it out. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/600190
Oh that is so funny after reading him carrying on like such a dick in the original thread.
Sucked in that you stacked your piece of crap Haval ahahaha

      "suffer in your jocks"

    • +3

From OP's posts, he sound more like a Chinese with a "Glass Heart". An Indian guy bragging about how rich he is and flaming everyone with insults when they comment on his "AMG A200" was formerly known as unistudent1 now known as "activ8newbs".

      • Super-quality Haval deleted. Justice and much hilarity was served.
Guess that Haval ABS isn't so great after all. Bet he was tailgating too.
        Just lol

        • *was a front on collision

      • Good onya im not chinese lol nice guess though

  • -1

To be honest shocked you are alive still remember the video of a GWM truck throwing a tire directly into the driver during a safety test.

Anyway write it off, cars are never the same after a crash and you will regret fixing it.

    • It's not his choice though, If there is no frame damage insurance will most likely fix it.

  • +3

I think you're all missing the point. The OP has comprehensive insurance, and wants this to be a write-off for insurance purposes. As it's within the first two years if it is a write-off it will be a new replacement, that's why OP is keen for it be to be a write-off. His attitude is not making any friends here though.

  • +4

    Market value $1, coz it's a 2020 Haval

So they'll have to write it off, the cheap plastic still costs more than $1…

    • +3

Dude you really tried to help him understand on his other thread but seems like he was too ignorant to listen to any useful comments, I am sure after owning it he realized how POS the car is and now really hoping they write it off, lets wait for next thread now for "Looking for non-Chinese budget car under $20K"

      • +2

Have you ever driven one, or even sat in one?

        • +1

Of course he hasn't. Don't you know this thread is for people to just spew political nonsense and Chinese vitriol.

    • Yeah nahh nice joke though

  • +1

Why on earth would you buy a Chinese car?

    Sheer madness

    • +1

What about everything else that's made in China?

Are people mad buying that stuff?

      • +1

Guest what? China made space station guys..lol
This dumb people get brainwashed by media and the military industrial complex..

  • Picture looks repairable, but parts availability will likely make the insurer write it off. The hate for Haval in the Ozbargain community is insane, I live in Perth and probably see about 5 a day now, and ours has been going great for the last 4 months.

    • +3

4 months of ownership? 😂 Yeah let us know if the car makes it to 15yrs then we'll hear you out

    • Perhaps 3-5 years you will start to get a feel for it but 4 months doesn't mean much.
Even a Lada will probably hold together for the first 6 months

      • +1

Would take a lada niva over a Haval.

        • But haval have 7 year unlimited km warranty, what about your lada niva?

In canberra i saw a lot of people driving haval you shill

          • +1

@Barbequemilk: Great, for 7yrs your Haval stays at the workshop getting repaired 😂

      • If china didnt make a car, then who going to buy australian iron ore, you dumb?!?

  • mrs crashed he great wall. parts add up quick intercooler was $1000 expect rad to be the same as well. Add grill, bumper, bonnet, rad support then add the fact no one wants to work on these id expect repair to be close to 20K.

  • Easy fix. Just use a glue gun to pull the dent out and use a spray can from Bunnings to repaint. 100 fiddy max.
Looks like you will need a new radiator as well. That would be another 200 fiddy

    • JK just realised it's a shit*x haval. You would be lucky to get a write off. The street value of that car is close to 0.

  • I enquired with 3 crash repairers to respray 25cms of paint damage aka front spoiler and the AVG was $750.

No wonder insurance writes off most cars! It'll nearly be cheaper to buy a whole new front spoiler lol

  • The whole 'why hate on Havel' question shows a certain level of ignorance. But that comes from the fact that most motoring journalists are slaves to the advertising dollars and one of the biggest spenders of those dollars is the Chinese car makers.

I remember when Great Wall first came out and the specs looked OK for the price and drove nice but then in person after 6-12 month they were literally falling apart, one when I went to open the door the handle pulled right off and then two weeks later the turbo went out. Then we found out about the asbestos in the breaks ect so I was completely turned off.

Now 5 years later I started looking at the ldv for a ute and haval for the missus. Yes they drive nice for now but just recently there was a court determination that a ldv ute was built with lower quality steel so it became a big pile of rust. This should be a big story but you almost can't find out about it.

Haval are made with the same steel and looking at the damage, if it was just a fox, that's the kind of damage a large roo would do at 100km in other vehicles .

Haval, ldv, gwm et al may get to the level of Hyundai and kia are now but that is a long way away until then they're future money pits waiting for a victim

    • Wow, not joking! Here's the judgement. It's worth reading!

"Surface rust in numerous areas of the vehicle inside doors, under carriage of vehicle, in engine bay of vehicle, on LDV supplied and fitted aftermarket accessories, on numerous nuts and bolts in vehicle (please refer to photos). Has severe rust and oxidization in and around brake calipers, tailshaft, piping inside engine bay, roll bar in back tray/tub.

In relation to the reverse camera, upon first inspection by the assessor the camera was operational. However the second time (after ecu error codes were cleared) the reverse camera was also showing an elevated view of the vehicle. In relation to the blind spot indicators they were not operational at first inspection ie the amber lights were not glowing on mirror. Upon second inspection (after ecu codes were cleared) and assessor went through the on board computer and physically turned them off and then back on they then started working."

      and then

The second respondent arranged for an initial estimate of rust repairs to be obtained from Miami Smash Repairs. The quote was for $49,242.33, which I note was more than the cost of the motor vehicle. The quote noted: ‘Although we can replace panels that have corrosion it appears that it is coming from between panels and could be due to insufficient steel protection used when joining/folding/welding therefore any new panels supplied could do the same thing as we cannot separate these, rust is also coming through on some parts in the middle of panels where there are no joints, this suggests contaminated steel prior to painting’.

      • -1

        The assessor provided a report

That report said that the rust

could be due to insufficient steel protection used when joining/folding/welding

So the protection was not up to standard. It has nothing to do with the steel. All steel rusts (no cars are made from stainless steel)

The cars owner also worked at a surf club so probably drove the car in the beach regularly. That is a good reason why the underneath of the car could have had rust. Especially if the owner never cleaned it.

        • It seems we are reaching levels of cope that were previously thought impossible.

    • but just recently there was a court determination that a ldv ute was built with lower quality steel so it became a big pile of rust. This should be a big story but you almost can't find out about it

      No there wasn't.
Courts do not determine the quality of steel or if a car is a pile of rust.

      • -1

Gold coast guy sued LDV, judge found in favour of guy and as part of the ruling said LDV had to pay back cost of vehicle because it was made with substandard steel processing.

Edit: Someone above linked the actual ruling

        • As I said before, courts do not determine the quality of steel or if a car is a pile of rust.

The applicant sought a refund under the Australian Consumer Law. The court addressed the claim against that.

The court did not make any determination on the steel.

          • +2

@spaceflight: While I took a bit of editorial licence with my description of the condition of the ute as a pile of rust, the report that the judge based his ruling on against LDV said the steel was likely contaminated and insufficient steel protection used went folding ect all say the same thing to regular people; substandard steel for a car.

LDV tried to use the fact that he worked at a surf club as part of their argument as well but here's the thing, LDV's own promotional material was full of imagery of the Ute's driving through the drink.

Yes, eventually every car will start to rust but not to the level of what these ones can at a year old.

Any court ruling sets a precedent which becomes part of the law so in ruling in favour of the guy, the judge had to rule that the reason the ute went so bad so fast was due to sub standard materials used ie steel and the way it was processed

            • @preddye:

the report that the judge based his ruling on against LDV said the steel was likely contaminated and insufficient steel protection used went folding ect all say the same thing to regular people; substandard steel for a car.

No the report does not say that the judge said that.
The assessor who provided a report dated 21 May 2021 said those things, not the judge.

That is evidence presented, it is not what the judge said. The judge accepted what the assessor provided in their report.

All the judge said was "rust due to the use of poor quality material" which was based off the assessors report.

Any court ruling sets a precedent which becomes part of the law

              It's called Case Law

so in ruling in favour of the guy, the judge had to rule that the reason the ute went so bad so fast was due to sub standard materials used ie steel and the way it was processed

Again no. That is not how judges work and it not how the case worked.

The case was not just for the car but also the Envirokote U/body Rust Prot. That's important because the applicant specifically purchased a product to prevent rust.

The judge did not rule that the reason the ute went so bad so fast was due to sub standard materials used.
The judge provided for a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law because the car has a number of issues, not just the rust. It's converted in paragraph 23

Demos be about $20k, lets set the write off figure at 70% so it'd need to have $14k worth of damage to be written off. Might be possible if the frame is bent otherwise probably not if it's just the bumper/guards/radiators/bonnet.

    • +1

An insurance-repaired Haval is going to be an even bigger POS going forward.
Expect weird annoying problems, intermittent faults, strange rattles, electrical problems, early component failures, tracking issues etc.
OP deserves the full Haval 'experience'.

  • +4

Aren't Haval written off the second they come off the production line ?

  • +1

They should have been written off when the designer first drew the plans up.

  • +1

Haval lol. Nothing says premium like the word premium in the title of a car.

  • I don't get this hate, did Haval steal your children or what?

    • +1

They all brainwashed by media and the military industrial complex?!?!
